Need Help On Giving Form Labels A Disabled Look
Sep 27, 2004
Hey guys - I am creating a fake webpage looking database in MS Access Project. On the form I am using labels with hyperlinks that directs the current focused label to do something. I have user rights in my database, and depending on perimissions, i want to disable a lablel like you can do a textbox. I am trying to duplicate a disabled textbox with label look. My coworker had a procedure in API that allowed you to pass a control or label in it, and it will give it the disabled look. Problem is, he lost it can someone help me please. I don't want to go back into my system and change everything over to command buttons or textboxes.
Any help would be appreciated..

Hi all,
I have a frmUserLoginScreen that opens frmMainSelectionScreen, which has 4 command buttons on it. Dependant on user level, some of the command buttons are disabled.
I have four user groups, manager, admin, IT and guest. When the guest logs on, the frmMainSelectionScreen only has one command button enabled. Once clicked, this opens frmClientDetails which has a command button that enables the user to add a record.
Basically, I want the add record command button to be disabled on the frmClientDetails if the user is a guest.
I've tried all sorts of code to reference the other forms but I'm not having any luck. Has any kind fellow got any ideas?
Thanks

I have a form with a few labels that for some reason, very often will have a strange looking line above them after I am done clicking on them. I can't seem to find out why this happens. It happens on every label on this particular form.
Please take a look at the attachment for a screenshot.
I'd appreciate any advice you may have on why this happens and how to fix it.

I have created a report to display a bill of materials (boms). The report works as I have designed. I have also figured out how to filter the report using the docmd.openreport vbasic call with filters. This works fine. I use a form to select the filtering I need in the form of 2 Listboxes populated from tables. The form opens, the report generates and displays in preview mode. What I cannot do is the change the title text (Text Label on the report Header). I would like to use the selected items in the listboxes as sources of text for these controls on the report so I can use the report over and over for different boms. ANy help would be greatly appreciated! Vbasic I hope!

I have a form containing a sub form.
On the sub form I am selecting products that I am selling to a customer whose details appear on the main form.
The products on the sub form are selected from a combo box. This section is in datasheet format.
Depending on the product sold some of the labels on the sub form are not relevant. And when this is the case I was thinking maybe the label is rendered invisible.
Maybe this is not the best way to handle this - or is it. It certainly is expedient.
Perhaps as well when the label is rendered invisible entry of a value into the corresponding text box becomes impossible.
Is there a better way to handle this?
How I can render the label invisible and disallow data entry depending on the value of the combo box.

I'm having trouble getting my form to be "blank" except for the labels upon loading. I've tried putting in some code "on load" but it doesn't clear everything. I haven't had this trouble on some of my other db's, the only difference here is it's a switchboard. I don't know if that matters.

I want to be able to open a form and unhide some fields on that form that have been set to hidden, basically if the file paths are wrong it ponts them back to my form where they fill them in , normally these are hidden
Code:
'checks to see if the file paths in the admin screen are ok before allowing to go foward to avoid errors from dowloading data
'get the file path to import data
Dim ImportLoc As String
ImportLoc = DMax("[Path]", "TblsysTransImport")
'Gets the file path to export data
Dim ExportLoc As String
ExportLoc = DMax("[Path]", "TblsysTransExport")
' checks to see if the file path is valid to stop people going further if incorrect or first time use If Dir(ImportLoc, vbDirectory) = "" Or Dir(ExportLoc, vbDirectory) = "" Then MsgBox "sorry but your Import / Export locations dont exsist " & vbNewLine & "These are required so you can download your scan data. " & vbNewLine & "You will now be redirected to enter valid paths"
'open form where they update the paths
DoCmd.OpenForm "Frmadmin", acNormal
'normally hidden
Frmadmin!Line111.Visible = True
i tried to use Frmadmin!Line111.Visible = True
but it says object required (line111 does exist?)

I would like to make clickable labels on my form, so if the user has any questions about the field, clicking on the label would bring up a message box that would give them more information. I know how to write onclick events one by one for every label, but there are a lot of them, and I feel like there has to be a better way.
I put the label names, and the text I'd like for the message box in a table, and I'd like to have a module that will allow me to click on a label, and have the right text come up.
I've researched ways to do this and have come up with nothing. The farthest I've gotten is an array tied to the form open event that just displays all the message boxes from first to last, one after the other. I believe that's on the right track, but is not a workable solution as is. I need to be able to tie the message box to the actual label the user clicks.

hello,
I have this filename.mdb file which was given to me for revision, so I opened it with MS access but once I opened it, the toolbars are disabled so I can't switch to form view, design view etc. How can I resolve this? I remember when I once did VBA Access that you can do this 'disable' thing. Only that I forgot it how now. So if anyone could please help me in this? I need to 'have those toolbars back' so I can start editing the file. Please do help me.
Thanks in advance

Hello everyone,
Problem: I have an MS Access database in Frontpage that I'm using for my online site. Table is set up w/ a field named, "Artist" (amongst others). In this field I have artist's last name followed by a comma, a space, then the artist's first name. I am using the CONTAINS operator for my sql query statment. Everything works fine on the site if you search only by the first name, last name, or by typing in, exactly, the artist last name, comma, space, then the first name i.e. Presley, Elvis. However, if one were to type in "Elvis Presley", no records return. Why is this? I have also tried the LIKE operator and I get the same results. Here is the code where 45s is my table name and the others are just additional fields of which i have no problems:
SELECT * FROM 45s WHERE (Artist LIKE '%::Artist::%' OR Title LIKE '%::Title::%' OR Record_Label LIKE '%::Record_Label::%') ORDER BY Artist ASC
I'd appreciate any help as I've failed to get a solution from other forums and computer scientists that I've asked.
Thanks!
David

The # character in a hyperlink is used to separate hyperlink parts. Here is a case when I do NOT want this character to do the separation: a network file where the # character is part of the filename: k:datasomeFile#ref02.doc.
How can I put this URL into a hyperlink field in a table and NOT have Access treat it like this:
Address: k:datasomeFile
Subaddress: ref02.doc
which then of course results in the usual "Unable to open..." error.
(I tried replacing the # with %023 but when Access seems to convert it automatically to #).

I'm creating an Access form and there are three sections to the form of which the user should only fill out one. So, they are controlled by a radio group and the desired action is as follows:
There is a default choice (by far, the most common) and it will be selected when the form is opened. When the user selects one of the radio options, the section controlled by that radio option will become enabled and the other two sections will become disabled/locked.
So I found that each box (textbox, combobox, etc) has the property enabled and locked. So I just set this accordingly depending on what is selected. The actual result is that the boxes will be grayed out and become disabled, but will never become enabled again.
Here's some abbreviated code:
Private Sub accountRequestType_AfterUpdate()
If Me.accountRequestType.Value = 1 Then
enableSection1
disableSection2
disableSection3
ElseIf Me.accountRequestType.Value = 2 Then
disableSection1
enableSection2
disableSection3
ElseIf Me.accountRequestType.Value = 3 Then
disableSection1
disableSection2
enableSection3
End If
End Sub
So an example of a disable function (which seems to work) is as follows:
Sub disableSection1()
Me.text123.Enabled = No
Me.text123.Locked = Yes
End Sub
And for an enable function (which doesn't seem to work):
Sub enableSection1()
Me.text123.Enabled = Yes
Me.text123.Locked = No
End Sub
So I'm a bit lost here, any ideas would be great. Are there different steps I need to take in order to enable them again? Am I being clear?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I have an mdb file that is being used in Access 2013. The menu appears in the Add Ins as it is supposed to and it works for the most part. For some reason, it remains visible but is not clickable/operable after I do the following code. This all works flawlessly in earlier version of Access so it must something peculiar to 2013 (no surprise there....). hat would cause the ribbon to stop working, what to do when it does, and best of all, how to prevent it from occurring in the first place?
This code is for an option box that either prints a report or creates a pdf and then sends the report as and attachment to a CDO generated email. Other than it (seemingly) turns off the menu..THe site won't allow me to post links so the code is an attached txt file

I have a query that uses "<>" to find records that are not equal between 2 tables. The formula looks like this:
<> [tblWorkPerformed]![ID]
It works fine as long as there is only one record in tblWorkPerformed, but once I add a second record I get the records I dont want plus the records I do. The records I do what are there twice. I found how to only get single records of each, but it still desplays the records it should not. I tried a dummy database, and it does the same thing. Do I have something wrong or is this just not possible.
Thanks

Hello,
I have a 'legacy' Access DB which I need to get into.
Unfortunately there is a problem, whenever I try to open it (using MS Access 2003) there is an error (Disc/Network error 3043) and the database closes immediately.
How can you open an MS Access db with all macros/vba etc disabled, so that the code causing the error does not execute and I can find out what is going on ?
I have not been able to find any such options in the MS Access 2003 open dialog or menus.
Thanks,
Andrew

I'm trying to construct a database to track church funds. I posted before and was given a link to a suitable schema but it was too comnplicated for me! Basically I need to track money given to a church through weekly transactions - money is given weekly through a numbered envelope. Each envelope has a number corresponding to the giver. I came up with this:
tb_parishioners
parishioner_id (PK), fname, lname, address etc
tb_FWO_Nos (FWO = free will offering)
FWO_ID (PK), fwo_Number
tb_contributions
Contributions_ID (PK), parishioner_ID (Both PK), week_no, amount, date
This doesn't really work. One giver can have only one FWO envelope but each envelope has many weeks/dates and I'm not sure how to link this. I want the form to have the week no and corresponding date already there so I just enter the amount. Then it has to be able to switch to a different year. Hope this is clear? Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi all.
I have a sub query that was working until a couple of days ago when it decided to stop.
I have a Table called TblFieldValues which whenever a new value is entered into my relational Db.
Each new Value is given a ValueID and is Dated (full date/time stamp)
My Sub Query ensures that for each FieldID (ie if more than 1) it selects/shows the top most Date....But it is not grabbing all the fields for some reason???
Here is the SQL limiting criteria to a bare minimum (QuoteID)
SELECT Main.FieldID, Main.QuoteID, Main.QuoteTypeID, Main.SubSection, Main.FieldValue, Main.NumberFieldValue, Main.CalcFieldValue, Main.Date, Main.ValueID
FROM TblFieldValue AS Main
WHERE (((Main.QuoteID)=[Forms]![FrmQuote]![QuoteID]) AND ((Main.ValueID) In (SELECT TOP 1 Sub.ValueID FROM TblFieldValue AS Sub WHERE Sub.FieldID=Main.FieldID ORDER BY Sub.Date DESC)));
I had a thought it might be the way the info is put into TblFieldValues, as it is often put in via Code, in fact only when it is put via code is it not showing up as a rule.
So I had a look at the code that inserts it.
strSQL = "INSERT INTO TblFieldValue ([QuoteID], [QuoteTypeID], [SectionID], [FieldID], [FieldValue], [Date], [UpdatedBy]) Values ('" & strQuoteID & "', '" & strQuoteType & "', '" & strQuoteSection & "', '" & strFieldID & "', '" & strValue & "', '" & strDate & "', '" & strUser & "');"
'MsgBox strSQL
DoCmd.RunSQL strSQL
I had Now() in replace of strDate, but tried changing to strDate and diming strDate as Date and then setting strDate = Now() but doesn't really change it in the table.
I am certain it is in this somehow? Any ideas????
Your help will be greatly appreciated...

:o Okay. I have a frustrating one. This is embarassing to me, because it seems so easy. Anyways, I have a form, where a person could select up to 3 different months and up to 3 different paper types. These combo boxes are listed in the criteria of those fields in my query. If I use the form and try to run my query, it gives me blank results. If I run the query and fill in the pop ups that show up asking for the information that the form is referring to, and I type in the same information, I get the results I expected. What am I missing here? Please help before I go bald!!!

How can I set my query to show results even if the underlying query doesn't.
thanks in advance.
