New Field Value From Large Table Column To Be Highlighted In Report
Sep 3, 2015
I have a daily report that shows data from previous day for production. When we have new products produced, I would like a field to be highlighted if it is the first time it has come up. I do not want it a unique field just from yesterday, but to analyze the table of all of the production days and highlight if a particular field from a column is unique. Can this be done?
I have a table with more than 700,000 records. There are no unique fields or unique combination of fields. I would like to add an AutoNumber field but when I try I get the message:
Is there a simple way of copying the same data down a column in Access similar to Excel with its Fill Down Column. I have tryed copying down a column and it only goes one cell at a time or if I copy 5 cells with the same data, I can copy it to 5 empty cells.
I am interested, is it possible to read currently selected (highlighted) row in table?
I know that this is possible to move cursor on concrete field in table via VBA but is it possible to read record number when we move cursor manually (via arrows)?
I have a table of at least 1000 records. I want to add a new field to that table. I have the data of that field in an excel sheet. Can I import that data to the new column of my table ? If I import directly to access, access creates new set of records. I don't want this, I want my records updated.
This number is too large [220020220020] for a field in my table. I currently have it set to Long Integer. What's the proper setting for a number this large?
I have a table called Locations that lists Countries and Cities:
USA, Detroit USA, Chicago USA, New York UK, London UK, Liverpool UK, Birmingham France, Paris France, Le Mans
I then have another table for inputing details on people I know. This table would have columns called Country and City. I've figured out how to make the Country column a "lookup column" so that I can only enter USA, UK or France. But how do I make the City column show only the appropriate list of cities relevant to the country that I've selected (e.g. Paris or Le Mans if France is the selected country).
I have two datasets that I am using. They start off with similar information: sitename, siteprovince, sitecoordinates. They also have 5 more fields that have the same type of information. After that there are about 10 more fields with no overlap.
In the original dBase program they came from they were treated as one dataset.
The current structure I am using is Company, CompanyContact, Transaction, SiteDetails (the dataset I am asking about).
Is it better design to breakup the SiteDetails into SiteTypeA and SiteTypeB? I have everything working in one table, but I thought it might be more effecient to have two.
I am designing a project in which there is a form and on that form there is a textbox and Browse button. With browse button you can select a file from the dialog box and that file path will appear in the textbox. This part has been done as below:
Code: Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() ChooseFile End Sub Sub ChooseFile()
Dim fd As FileDialog Set fd = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
[Code] ....
Now the next Part i.e Part2 in which we have to see the references present in Column D of the "Summary" worksheet of the workbook whose path is present in textbox1 and check if they match with any of the references in field "Ref" of the Access table named tblLiterature.
If value in column D matches with Ref field of the Access table then change the status field of the Access table to the corresponding columns A,B,C named as "Withdrawn","Obsolete","Updated". that means if the column A of the corresponding Reference is Y then change the status field to "Withdrawn". If column B is Y then change the status to "Obsolete" and if column C is Y then change the status to "Updated".
Please see attached the workbook as this kind of workbook will be searched against Access table .
I've been trying to populate a field in a form with information, but only if the field is blank.
What I am trying to do is this.
I have a continuous form displaying all of our principals, however when our principals are on leave I want to populate the field with the "acting principal". I have set it up so the field grabs the acting principal first but it is blank for several schools. For these schools where there there is no "acting principal" I want it to grab the substantive principal automatically and populate the field.
I have tried Is Null, Is Not Null, NZ, IF, Where and Then statements but to no avail.
I try to put an expression for the property "bound column" so that my lookup values will be directly dependent on one of attribute's choice
I have got four options for my attribute. Each option will use a slightly different set of lookup values. I save all four sets in another table.
Then in my properties definition I refer directly to this table as lookup base. When I put bound column number equal to an expression so as to choose the right column of lookup values it refuses. It seems that it does notl ike anything other than a numeric value.
If that's a no-go, I am not sure how to achieve what I try to do then?
Essentially I have a table that 4 attributes: QID,itemID,CatType,Catchoice
CatType can have only 4 values. Each value will make Catchoice take on a different set of combo values
The problem I am having is that I am stuck at the Catchoice lookup definition because it is dependent on what kind of CatType the user picks.
I am trying to change a field lenght of a large database (access 97) It is at 50 right now and want to change it to 25. When I try to change it and save the table I get a error when the bar is about 3/4 the way accross the bottom.
Microsoft can't change the data type - there isn't enough disk space or memory.
then
not enough space on temporary disk
This is error 3183. In the help it says that the TEMP DOS enviroment variable location doesn't have enough space. (summerising). Now I have a 100+gb drive that isn't close to being full. I also changed the MaxLocksPerFile registry dword to 8,000,000 as my table has around over 3 million records. I have tried this on a xp and 2000 machine same results. Next I am going to try it on a 98 machine. I could do it by breaking up the table into 2 differnt ones and do each one individually but there is an autonumber field used as a reference number (I know I know). So that would screw up the numbering scheem (Yes I know there are ways arund that also). this database is about 400MB
Couple of questions 1. Is there a way around this? I have not found a solution on line yet. 2. Will lowering the field length make the database smaller (the data that is in there now is less than 25 charecters and the field is set to 50.) I have gotten mixed info on this. there are a few fields I would like to reduce.
I have a table that contains a list of news items. For each item there is a link to an appropriate image and a load of text.
I display a list menu of news items showing the picture and the first few lines of text. At the moment for the first few lines of text I have a separate field and just copy and paste the first few lines of the main article into it.
My question is is there a way where instead of having to have a separate field with just the first few lines in I can somehow just retrieve the first few lines of data from the full article field when displaying the menu listing?
Hope this makes sense, and any ideas greatly appreciated.
I have a data where I want to create a query fulfilling the below conditions. Suppose I have two table: Table 1 and Table 2 If a value ex.98 (Table1) matches with the value with 98(Table 2),it should pick up my second higher value 103. suppose 103 is the next high value of 98 . Please see the data value.
misprepaid.asmvalue from Table2 Required Result Con 989898 then 103 if value of table1=98 then 103 from table 2 (next large number) 103103103 then 149 if value of table1=103 then 149 from table 2 (next large number) 149149149 then 175 if value of table1=149 then 175 from table 2 (next large number) 175175175 then 198 if value of table1=175 then 198 from table 2 (next large number) 198198198 then 199
When I import a column from Excel into a new table in Access using the Docmd.transferspreadsheet function, Access automatically assigns a field name of "F1"; and if I try to import a range of columns (Eg A1:B10), then Access saves them into a table with 2 columns with field names "F1" and "F2". The table is created as part of the Docmd function, and so I don't have control over the field names.
Is this going to always be the case? Can I depend on Access to always use this naming convention? Because I am about to start writing more code that will depend on these field names.
I have a table with 140 fields (I know, this is too many). I have a date field that intermittently will not allow data to be entered. There is a pattern to the data it will not accept, but it seems to only occur in certain records and what it will or will not allow seems different in each case. The error I get when I try to save a record is: The search key was not found in any record. I've isolated the error to the level of the table. Have tried compact/repair, removing the index on the field, deleting and recreating the field. Nothing works. Help!
To avoid the mind-numbing tedium of have to use make-table queries loads of times, is there a quick (probably VBA-related) way to split a large Access table, of about 350000 records, down into 93 smaller tables, based on a key code field that identifies each group of records e.g. GBW102, GBE999, etc?
How can i extract all the information in those tables and put all the data into one large table? I want to extract everything apart from one table?
and can I format the large table once the data have been put in i.e. insert new Columns at the start, and populate fields based on the value of other fields values?
This really isn't a large table by Access standards, as it has only about 1 million records, but nevertheless it's taking a long time to run the update query. Here's the query:
UPDATE [Db] INNER JOIN [Small Table] ON [Large Table].text1=[Small Table].[text1] SET [Large Table].[text2] = [Small Table].[text2];
[Large Table] has about 1 million records and [Small Table] has 10 records.
My DVD library database I have a memo field which has the description of the movies.
In some cases, like my tv show records, I have a lot of data because of the episodes and episode descriptions.
I'm currently displaying this data using a split form with the datasheet on the left
I must use a small font in the memo field in order to display all data.
I could use a larger font and simply scroll but I'm looking for an alternative.
I've even thought of creating a hyperlink filed and point to the movie on IMDB's web site. But when I click the link nothing happens even though I copied and pasted the link into the field.
 I have a large table with 1 damn corrupted record, the database can't be repaird, compact, I can't use the copy ,method since the table is over 9000 record sets.
I tried creating a new table and appending the non-corrupted record into it with no success, it is keep locking on me.
Have you guys tried anything else that works for this situation???
I have a database with a table that contains 360,000 rows. I built a form with four boxes where a user can specify values to limit the result set. And instead of having a new window open with the results, I built a subform and placed it on the main form to display the results.
Here is how it flows: Main Form -> user enters search criteria Search Criteria -> feed as criteria in query Query Results -> display on subform Subform -> shows on main form
The query is setup to take the values from the main form and either use it if it's not null, or return all values if the field is null.
The problem I am having is that on opening the main form, Access is taking the four null values from the main form search fields, feeding them to the query, which is then feeding the subform. So 10 minutes later when the main form finally opens, I have 360K records displaying in my subform.
What I would like is to be able to open the main form instantly, specify my search criteria, then run the query, then have the query results populate the subform.
I am a newbie when it comes to Access and ASP but I am trying. I am in the need for some help. I have a large table in Access 2003 and need to break it into smaller tables (not using a query) where the fields are the same except each of the smaller, new tables will hold info for a specific person. These smaller tables would need tro be linked to the larger. Is there an easy way to do this? I need to keep it in tables due to the ASP software I use to generate the asp pages. Is this possible? My goal is for each user to be able to only view/edit their data and for the large table to reflect any changes made to the smaller table. Thanks, Dan
I am attempting to create a metrics analysis table from another table. What I would like to do is copy the structure (only) from table 1 into a new table. Change all the fields in the new table to text (except for an ID field which would be an autonumber). Then run a seperate group by query against each column, counting the values in each group (i.e. first query would have two fields The grouped column and the column count.
Once I have these values I would like to concatenate them (with the count in parens) and then push these values back into the new table under the appropriate column.
My code does this. I basically loop through a recordset that runs to each column/field groups and counts and then Edits the new table with the concatenated data.
My first table is 170 fields and 38K records. The issue is that it's too much for Access to handle and it blows up (on field 123) Telling me the File is too large. The file does explode to 1G. Then I can shrink it back down to 67mb by running a repair and compact... and then run the the data for the rest of the fields in that table. When I compact again I get about 80Mb.
So now I have two tables, both with an ID field... so I try to link them together (via a make table query) and meld them into one table... but it keep running into that "File Too Large" issue.
How can I have two tables in a database file with a combined size of 80Mb, but when linked together are too large for the database file? Does it have something to do with having all text fields?
I looked up the limits to MS Access and the field count doesn't appear to be an issue since it's nowhere near 255... So what's the problem here?
Basically I would like to capture the quantity in stock for the above list of phones at many stores.
I started out by adding each phone model as a numeric field in tblStock, because I need to obtain the quantity value for each and every model, for each and every store.
Is there a better way to do this? I was thinking of creating just 2 fields, Model and Quantity, then adding each model as a record, then using that record as a sort of template. I wander what would be the drawbacks of this, since with the first method, if a user needs to add a phone not on the list he would have to modify the table design.
