Hi all, I am new to working with databases. My question is, how do you retrieve the autonumber ID of a field for a row just inserted into a database.
I have read numerous threads/articles, but none give me a clear picture of what the code actually looks like, just pieces(which is like greek to me). Could somebody tell me where I can see a working example of the code?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi, okay completely new to access. I'm trying to create a chart based on a query with 1 record 8 fields. I can not figure out a way to rearrange the data into two fields 8 records.
The background is I have a hundred units, each with 8 wheels. I have a table with the following fields.
-Unit part number
-Diameter of wheel 1
-Diameter of wheel 2
-Diameter of wheel 3
-Diameter of wheel 4
-Diameter of wheel 5
-Diameter of wheel 6
-Diameter of wheel 7
-Diameter of wheel 8
So, the query tells me how many wheel diameters between a certain range, with the following fields:
- Diameter >530
- 530> Diameter >540
- 540> Diameter >550
- 550> Diameter >560
- 560> Diameter >570
- 570> Diameter >580
- 580> Diameter >590
- 590> Diameter >600
Now I want to plot the range on the x axis and # wheels in that range on the y axis of a bar chart.
Any suggestions on how I can achieve this? How do I create the diameter range as a record rather than a field?
Many thanks!!!

Let's say I have a list of customers. For each customer I have much more info on other lists (order list, personal info list, bank info list, and so on) - all are of course connected properly.
Now let's say a certain customer is no longer my customer, so I want to remove him from the customer-list. But, I want to move him to a different list - past-customers - so all the information that was related to that customer will remain so. In short, I want to remove from the customer-list without affecting the related data.

I have to provide a Quote/Order/Invoice and stock control system very quickly for one of our satellite offices, and wondered if anyone knew of any "boilerplate" databases that have done all the grunt work, so that I can just edit reports and forms etc to get them up and running. We are happy to pay a (modest) fee for this service, but would expect to get full access to the design/code for later development and customisation if required.
I've tried Googling but get page after page of rubbish !! Any pointers would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks and Regards

Hi all, i have a query which will be used for reports, and only the last order placed by a customer is needed to be shown. Here's the table used in the query:-
tblCustomerPurchases
CustomerNumber
PurchaseNumber - PK,Autonumber
DateOfPurchase
SeasonID
TotalCost
So obviously for one customer there can be several orders, but i just want to show the latest one by the date field. I have tried grouping by the date field on both Last and Max, but with all the other fields from the table in the query (i need to have all the fields from the table for the report by the way) it still shows all the orders for a customer.
If i only include the customernumber field and dateofpurchase field and then group by date i have 4923 records, which is the correct amount, only one order per customer (the latest one) but adding any other fields to the query gives me the full 7000 odd orders (several per customer).
Any help would be much appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have a simple invoice database with a primary key in the main table (with autonumber as invoice no.) and a subform with the item details which is without a primary key with the data type as numbers. In addition, I had the tables linked as one to many relationship. What happen is that when I am entering the data, the number jumps . For eg: It was suppose to be 7123 but the next entry was 7150. Pls kindly advice.

I am creating a database for cases. I want to set autonumber into sequence, Let say if there are data numbering 1,2,3,4,5. If I delete no.2, The data will rearrange in oreder from 1,2,3,4. While If I add a new value it would be the no.5.
Instead of data value autonumber 1,2,3,4,5 as I deleted no.2 and add new records. The data has become 1,3,4,5,6.

Need help pls
I'm designing a report that should be sorted by field A, B, C, D, or a combination of BD or CD.
Problem is (it seems) the report ignores the sort order and lists the results in ascending order of the autonumber field - 1,2,3,4,5 etc.
The reports run off queries and the queries work fine - they sort the fields in the proper order.
Is the autonumbering somehow interfering with the sort order in the report?
HELP!!!

I was adding an autonumber field to an existing table and I assumed the numbering would follow the order of the primary key but that doesn't seem to be the case.

This is something I occasionally see in Access and has been bugging me for quite a while.
As an example, when I have a table (all text fields except for the ID field which is an Autonumber with a unique index - ie just what Access creates when you import data) and I try to make a new table from a query by indexing the Autonumber field in descending order (ie to reverse the order of the table), it doesn't work properly.
So if I have:
SELECT [mytable].* INTO [mytable sorted] FROM [mytable] ORDER BY [mytable].[ID] DESC;
When I preview the data (ie run the select query to have a look at it), it looks fine.
When I change the query to a 'Make Table' and I then I check the table it makes, the order changes part-way down the list, so looking at the ID field it runs from number 2669 down to 2087 correctly, then it goes from 1960 to 1956, then 1803 to 1799, then 1751 to 1747, etc etc etc. After a while it seems to correct itself again, and orders normally down to #1
I'm using Access 2002.

I have a report with 2 access tables (1 Master table and another a daily feed table)
The Master table keeps a log of all incoming records. (once append it to this table, should not show in future reporting)
The Daily feed information within the last 48 hours. (uploaded from an excel report into access temporary table)
When the daily feed table gets completed, I append the records and updated them into the Master to avoid duplication.
When I upload the daily feed table and I match it against the Master table to find duplicates, how can I delete the duplicates from the Daily Feed table?
This is my code to find duplicates:
SELECT CMPreport.ID, CMPreport.MbrName, tblMaster.ID
FROM CMPreport LEFT JOIN tblMaster ON CMPreport.ID = tblMaster.ID
WHERE (((tblMaster.ID) Is Not Null));

I have stored the costs in my database with a date they apply from so I have a series of costs which I can then refer back to using the order date to see what cost I should use at any one time. My table structure is as follows:
Code:
tblExtruderCosts
ExtruderID PK - identifies the extruder
FinishID FK - identifies the finish
Cost - the cost for that finish from that extruder
DateFrom - the date the cost applies from
tblExtHead
ID PK
ExtruderID FK
FinishID FK
Orderdate

I have a Table Sales - that lists customer and order information
Most of the customers are new - is there a way to populate Customer Name Table with a new entry each time a new customer is input into the Sales Tale
(Without having to add the custome to Customer Name Table - then going to Sales Order)
OR
Failing that - is there a way to use a list box that points to Customer Name Table (and if it doesn't find the one you want, will allow you toadd a new record) In the SAME form as you use to add to Sales Table.
So:
Date (textbox linking to form.Sales) Customer Name (List Box linking to form.CustomerName + adding the info to form.Sale)
