Newbie Question - Adding A Field To A Query

Sep 22, 2006

Hi there - i'm looking for a bit of help on something that is probably obvious to experienced Access users - i've checked the forum for about 25 min or so and couldn't find a related answer to this question.

I have a select query (QRY2) that reads another select qery (QRY1), and I need to (or rather, i'd like to) add a field to QRY1 - how do I get it so i can view this new field from QRY1 in QRY2?

thanks so much for anyone who could help me!

Adding A Field Name To A Query

Nov 30, 2005

I hope I can ask this question so that it makes sense.

I have a totals query that I'm using to make a Chart. The query works fine but I want to change the look abit. What I'm doing is quering a table looking for the total number of times that there is a check box in a field called PDC RTA and totaling the Hrs as well. The data comes back looking looking like this.
PDC RTA-----Count-----Total Hrs
-1 ---------- 6 -------- 53
0 -----------25 -------- 78

My problem is that when I chart this the -1 and 0 show up at the bottom of the bars on the chart. I would like to rename these to fields on the qry qrid then I can chart the new field names so that it will make sense to the user.

Make sense

Adding New Field To Query And Then Form

Mar 6, 2005

I have created a form from a query. I have then at a later date added a new field to the query. I have returned to the form and attempted to add it to the form but it doesn't show the new field within the control source options. Does anyone know why? Do I really have to start all over again with my form?

Thanks

Queries :: Adding Percentage Field Into Query

Apr 25, 2014

I have a database which tracks the performance of my team and how long it took them to send something out to the customer. We have a target of 5 minutes.

So I quite a few queries to drill down this information. I have a summary query that takes that information and tells me the total amount of things sent, the amount of things sent in time and the amount of things sent late.

My team have to get at least 95% out on time. So how would I go about adding this bit into the query. The calculation is:

The amount sent on time / the total amount * 100

But is there anyway to add this into a 4th column displayed next to these figures?

Looking around a few people have talked about SQL but I no nothing about this and it seems quite daunting, is there a way to do this as a calculated field?

Adding Fields In A Table To Create New Field In A Query

Mar 14, 2008

I've got a fields called rev code that contain the following values:

field name: 110 131 250 255 258

field value: 7.49 6 11.25 12.11 78

I'm writing a query that pulls from the first two digits of the rev code and need to round off to the nearest dollar so in my query I'll have a column 11 with a value of 7, a column 13 with a value of 6, then I need to take columns 250 255 and 255 add the values together and round off so I get a column 25 with a value of 101.

How do I do that?

Forms :: Adding Date Field To Query From Form

Sep 23, 2013

I have a date picker field in my form that is used as part of a criteria in a query. I also add it as a result field in the query being that it is appending data to a table. But when the query runs it puts weird characters into the query field with expression.

The Expression is as follows:

BillWk: [Forms]![Invoice Form]![WkEnd]

My Criteria is:
Between [Forms]![Invoice Form]![WkEnd] And [Forms]![Invoice Form]![WkEnd]-6

The Criteria works but the expression does not.

I have attached a png of the field.

Modules & VBA :: Adding Calculated Field To Existing Query

Nov 12, 2014

I am looking for a way to add a calculated field to the end of an existing query using VBA. Is there an easy way to do this?

The data I receive from an external supplier shows monthly data split by column with a new column added in each month. I then need to reflect this by adding a new column to the end of the query. It is currently a manual tweak, but I want to automate this with code.

Queries :: Adding Test Field To Different Table And Try Different Query Using Like Parameter

Mar 20, 2013

I'm using Access 2003...I have a query that searches a parts table by description:

Like "*" & [Enter in Part Description to search] & "*"

I need to add another search to this query, I added another field to the parts table call manufacturer. I add this field to the above query and added this parameter to it:

Like [Enter in Manufacturer] & "*"

I then added a manufacturer to one of the fields for test purposes. For some odd reason this doesn't work. If I take out the manufacturer parameter and don't enter in anything into the part description the query returns all the records. When i type a description into the part description field the query returns the proper records. When I add back the manufacturer parameter and enter through both parameters only the one record returns showing the test record instead of all of them. If I put a part description in and enter through the manufacturer parameter no records show when they should.

I've tried adding a test field to a different table and tried a different query using the like parameter. The parameter works in a field already in the table but won't work with the new field I added. I've done compact and repair.

Newbie- How To Attach Formula To Field In A Table.

Mar 9, 2008

I'm sure this is a simple issue, but so simple I can't find the answer.

I have a recipe DB and have calories and fat and fiber fields, I want to have another field which will display a point count for a formula (calories/50+Fat/2+fiber/5) but the catch is if the fiber number entered is over 4 I only want the calculation to use 4 max.

Not sure how or where to create this formula to populate a field in the DB.

As you can tell I'm new to all this and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Mike

Access Newbie Question - Field Validation

Apr 9, 2008

I’m trying to create a DB with some field validations. I have a field named ‘Value’ and a field named ‘Doubled’. Value is in a currency format. ‘Doubled’ is in a Y/N format. I want a to create a rule that prevents the value ‘Yes’ from being entered in the ‘Doubled’ field IF the value in the ‘Value’ field is greater than .60. How do I do that?

I entered "[Value]< .6" but that wouldn’t allow me to put any value in the ‘Value’ field – it popped an error every time.

Thanks for helping out a newbie!

Complete Newbie.please Help With Enabling/disabling Field Based On Combobox Selection

Oct 24, 2006

Hi everyone,

Firstly apologies for posting what is likely to a really simple problem and probably has been explored before. I have been looking through other treads but nothing that I could identify really fits the bill.

Essentially based on choices made against a combo-box, I wish to lock or hide combinations of fields/combo box within the form. Realistically I want to lock rather than hide.

All the fields/combo boxes in the form I want to effect are bound.

I can effectively do this as long as the fields/combo-boxes are unbound, but it seem to fail when they are bound.

Any assistance would be really helpful so thanks in advance.

Query Newbie

Jul 26, 2005

I have been reading this is how I am able to articulate my problem with some degree of knowledge.

I have 3 tables as Follows:

Table 1. [ID]pk, [Contestant Name],[Event],[Category],[Class]

Table 2. [ID]pk, [Judge Name],[Event],[Category]

Table 3. [ID]pk, [Contestant Name],[Event],[Category],[Class],[Score1],[Score2],[Remarks]

Table 3 is a record of score from a specific Judge to a specific contestant. There will be a record for each contestant from each judge that is judging that specific [Event] & [Category]. therefore if there are two judges and two contestants there will 4 records entered into the table.

Problems 1. (I can't get my tables related properly)
I should not have to enter the duplicate information each time I enter a record into the Table3. The common information should be available within the other tables using queries.

Why i think I have problem 1:
There is a many to many relationship here on the parent form what i want is the [Judge Name], [Event], [Category].
On the related Sub form i want to see a query that shows me parts of tables 1,2,3 for each Contestant that is entered in the matching [Event],[Category] combined with the query of 1,2,3 and be able to enter this judges scores against the contestant Name and then when I change to a new judge I may see the same contestants but be able to enter a new score record against that contestant with a different judge.

In English
Assume you are a judge for a contest you have a form in front of you
Parent form Select your Event, Name, Category from a pull down box in the sub form you are presented with a list of Contestants that are on stage. You enter Score1 & Score2 for each Contestant and the record is created.

Judge #2 is doing the same thing
He selects his Event,Name, Category from the pull down menu on the Parent form and walla the subform populates with the same contestants as Judge#1 and he enters his Score1 & Score2 into the subform
and
What we have is 2 Judges, 5 Contestants and 10 Records created into Table3

Sorry for the length but the last part helps me visualize what I am trying to explain.

End result is I can't get it to work is this a job for a union query ?

Newbie Needs Query Help

Oct 25, 2004

I work for a nonprofit. Everyone has 10 jobs. I am the only person who uses/has used access. I have a donor database listing names addresses, and different fields for donations made/not made for each year. I do simple queries to pull names from the list that our board members would like to personalize a letter to, and the rest goes to a mailing service for addressing and stuffing of envelopes. This year, we would like to send a different letter to those who have donated in any of the last 3 years. I can pull contact info and the 3 fields (donted 2003, 2002, and 2001) together in a query, but not sure what to make the criteria. If I put >1 (since some of my fields automatically have a zero, and are therefore not null), then I only get those names that have donated all three years. Some may have donated two years ago, and not again, some may have donated only last year, or 2 out of 3 years, etc. I know there must be a way to do this, but can't get my head there having only had basic interaction with access. I know by process of elimination how many there should be, so I will know if it runs correctly. Hope this makes some sense. Bear in mind, I am a novice, and certainly not a software person.

Newbie Needs Help Writing Query

May 17, 2006

OK, I have two tables that have pretty much the same data in them, but, the first table has SOME data that the second table doesn't and I need to get that data into the table that does not have it.

Here's a description of what I want to do:

Table #1 has about 10,000 lines of data with the employee SSN as the ID for the records. In this table are two extra columns of data (HRContact)and(HR ContactCode) that are not always populated in Table #2.

Table #2 has about 300,000 lines of data with the SSN as the ID field. Some of the records that match the SSN's from Table #1 have the data HRContact and HRContactCode, but not all of the records have those fields populated.

So, what I need to happen is for the query to go through Table #1, find the SSN of a record. As it finds each SSN, it goes to Table #2, finds that same record with the same SSN, then looks in the HRContact field to see if there is data there, or if it is Null. If there is data in that field, then it goes on to the next SSN in Table #1 and repeats the preceeding process. If the data in HRContact is Null in Table #2, then it goes back to Table #1 and grabs the HRContact and HRContactCode data for that record and writes it into the HRContact and HRContactCode field for the record in Table #2. the query would repeat this process until it reaches the end of file in Table #1.

I hope this is clear and if you have any questions, please ask me...

Thanks for your help,
Dave
