Hi. I just ran across this forum. It looks like I could learn alot here.
I have been searching for some code, and have found two of the three items that I need to make this work. To make this simple, I have two forms and two tables. One form for Contacts (with addresses) and one form that has the Contacts information together with a list of their responsibilities. Say I have the Responsibilities form open, and type in a contact name in an unbound combo box. I believe this was the case, as the unbound combo box was being used to update the contact information down below on the form. I'd like to invoke an event procedure if the contact isn't in the list. I've found various vbscript to handle this in the "not in list" property. If they are not in the list, I'd like it to save the name typed in, open the Contacts form to add the new contact and their information. This I have done. When I close that form, I'd like the procedure to go back to the original Responsibilities form, requery the table (or is it really requery the combo box?), insert the new name into the combo box, and update what contact information resides on the Responsibilities form.
I've seen info on the requery portion, as I've run into the same problem of the name not being in the combo box, unless I close the Responsibilities form and then open it back up.
But I haven't seen an example where everything is put together with saving the contact name (as a variable???) and then putting the contact name in the Contacts form and then back in the combo box on the Responsibilities form.
If someone has an example, or could steer me in the right direction, I'd sure appreciate it. I understand some of this stuff, but don't really have the vbscript understanding. But I'm good at using examples with prewritten code and manipulating to work with my forms and field names.
I have a Contacts form which has a Calls sub-form which itself has a Subjects sub-form. From the Contacts form the user can click a button which writes a pro-forma letter from a selection. The application then updates the Call & allows the user to select the Subject(s) from the Subjects available (drop-down menu). If the user wants to write a second letter immediately, I get the above message. If they do anything else first, they are OK. I have tried refreshing the Contacts form & each of the others at various points in the process, explictly saving the record (caused another error) etc. without success. Can you help?
In my access form I provide the user a list of locations from various countries in a listbox . But the list is too long so I provide him a combobox for selecting a country. Selecting the country should update the listbox showing only the locations in that specific country.
So my SELECT from the listbox must cover the unselected state and show all entries and when a country is selected it must narrow the selection.
I tried to get this happen with the following SELECT statement containing a variable. Choosing a country in the Combobox results in a change of the variable and in a requery. This works after the first country is selected and for each country change, but the initial list is empty.
VBA in the loadform 'Application.TempVars.Add "varcountryselect", "*" SELECT in the listbox "lstlocationsperproject" SELECT tbllocations.locationID, tbllocations.country, tbllocations.localstreet, tbllocations.localcity FROM tbllocations WHERE ((tbllocations.country) Like [TempVar]![varcountryselect]);
VBA in the combobox Application.TempVars("varcountryselect") = [Form]![kombcountryselect].Column(0) Me.lstlocationsperproject.Requery
The values in [kombcountryselect].Column(0) are texts like "SPAIN", "MEXICO", etc.
Any hints, how I have to use the * for getting the complete list on the initial view ?
Hi All a newbie here so any help will be appreciated,
sorry for the long post but trying to give you all the information you might need.
I wrote a basic access database for my Church to aid in a paperwork audit for a charity food drop which we do monthly to give free food to the needy.
But each month it gets harder to find out who was in line first so I thought with all your help we may be able to randomize the names each month in a different order as to avoid confusion and also avoid people waiting in line as they turn up at 5am and we don't start until 9am.
So if this will work in access they can all come for 9am
I don't mind creating a new database and adding the additional information, if that's what it would take.
My Background I have created basic databases from scratch not using wizards, But I don't know much about code or how to implement it so any help in where code goes it would be very much appreciated.
Database details (Microsoft Access 2002 version)
Table Name = details Field name = ID (auto-generated) Field name = FirstName (text) Field name = Surname (text)
If possible it would be nice to keep a record of the randomized lists (in the database somewhere ?) each month in case anyone wants to see it or disputes the lists, where I can just create a report to show the details.
There will be approximately 90 to 125 names.
Thank you in advance for all your help in this matter
I currently have a working model which opens up a word document template, fills the bookmarks with info from access, saves the file as a preset name and then send the document on Outlook.
What I would like to do is save the document as a variable, preferably as something like " Climbing Request for site (and then to lift the site name from Access form field and insert here) "
E.G " Climbing Request - Newcastle Central Station.doc"
i'm using a form with an unbound text box to temporarily hold data that i want to use in several other places (all those functions work great). last step is to save the newly created table with a different name (will be used for a mail merge later so must be a separate table or else we'd have to filter thousands of records during each mail merge) and i want to use the data i've temporarily held in my unbound text box within my form as the name in the save as function.
can i specify a variable as a file name within the save as function? is there a better way?
I have a main form....I click a button on this form and another form opens...an edit is made....(BOTH MUST BE OPEN) WHen I close this form I want to Refresh a List box on the Main form to reflect this edit.
I have two list box that control 5 subforms. i have a Run button that works in sorting the subforms according to the listbox. I have a rest button that i want to clear the selections of the listbox and then requery the subforms as if the criteria were null - or return all records. i have the selections clearing, it is just my forms are not "going back to all" on the requery.
Private Sub Command62_Click() Dim varItm As Variant With clinicLbx For Each varItm In .ItemsSelected .Selected(varItm) = False Next varItm End With
I have inherited a buggy database thas has a simple piece of code that won't behave the way I think it should! The code should add a new record and have that new record appear on the list form (where the button On_Click event is called) making it available for user edditing. In 99% of cases though, the blank new record does not appear. The record is getting created, as i can see it in the table and have added a watch to the RecordCount property, it just doesn't display automatically. The existing workaround for users is to click a second button that invokes a simple one line function sub that performs only a Me.Requery. The user presses that up to two or three times before the new blank record finally appears.
One solution I read about, but hesitated in trying due to the unprofessional 'flash' that occurs, was to close the form and the re-open it...anyone experienced this or can comeup with a neat workaround?
The code
Private Sub CmdAddRule_Click()
Dim db As AO.Database, intnextseq As Integer Dim TestThis As String Set db = CurrentDb() Dim rstDao As DAO.Recordset Set rstDao = db.OpenRecordset("select * from stblAllocRules order by intRUSequence desc;", dbOpenDynaset) If rstDao.RecordCount > 0 Then intnextseq = rstDao!intRUSequence + 1 Else intnextseq = 1 End If With rstDao .AddNew !AutRU_id = 0 !intRUSequence = intnextseq !bytAppendBack = 1 !bytUpdateBack = 0 !bytDeleteBack = 0 .Update .Close End With
Set rstDao = Nothing Set db = Nothing
Me.Requery Me.Repaint 'I have used this staement in addition to and instead of the Me.Requery to no effect Me.Recordsource = Me.RecordSource 'I have used this statement also in addition to the above to and in isolation, to no effect. End Sub
I have a split form that's like a list of pending tasks. The data source is a linked SharePoint 2013 list where users submit requests. The user takes the information from each record and performs an action. When it is done, the user presses a button and the task status changes from "Pending" to "Processed". The form record source is based on a query that finds only records with a status of "Pending" so when the user changes the status of the task, it is removed from the list. It works fine except when there is only one task left in the work list. If the user processes the last task, the form refreshes and it goes to a new empty record and I get an error message that says I must enter a value into one of the required fields. I tried making the field non-required but it just creates an empty record in the table.
I have a form called Add New Delegation, i have combo box of Institution names on the main form and a subform for Agreements discussed. with a combo box called agreements. I successfully cascaded the combo boxes so that the agreements discussed on the subform are filtered by their respective institutions on the main form. However i am unable to refresh the list each time a new institution is selected as the Macro will not allow me to requery a control on the mainform from the subform..
Hi, I’m trying to develop a form for coding data from historiocal documents into a dataset. The form is used to avoid errors when converting ‚questions’ in the codebook to the codes for later statistical analysis. Some questions allow for multiple anwers – but need to be stored to one field in the data-table, separated by semicolon. Ideally I would have a list-box with the questions and write the codes into one field after selection. Another difficulty is, that later the data need to be read from the table and the selections should be visible in the form (if the table contains „1;6“ items 1 and 6 in the listbox should be highlighted).
I’d be grateful for tips or links to relevant sources. Thanks!
What is the correct way to save the values in a listbox column to the fields of a table? I can use rec("field1") = Me.list16.ItemData(Varitem)and that records the bound column to field 1 but how can I save the unbound columns to other fields in the table?
I have some issue when i save list view data in a access table. In form I have a list box(listtotalcount) and one text box(ID). In form load event I run a query on that list box like: "SELECT count(id) FROM table A" and it gave me the correct result. Now I want to store this data on a different table (table b) and I use this code:
Dim db As DAO.Database Dim rst As DAO.Recordset Set db = CurrentDb Set rst = db.OpenRecordset("table b", dbOpenDynaset)
[code]....
But the problem is when I click the save button it store only id not the list box value.
I have a process that reads a list of files sequentially and then processes them .... As each file is processed, its name (strfile) gets written to a Table (Vault.[Processed_file])
I want to verify if the file exists in the table prior to processing it - if it exists, I won't process it again ...
And then called this join as a symbol or variable, and then have it use to select the items from these joined tables, can this be done in Access? Here is an example of a code that I created, but it has an error message saying the FROM syntax is incorrect.
Code: SELECT firstJOIN.trainID, firstJOIN.trainName, firstJOIN.stationID, firstJOIN.stationName, firstJOIN.distance_miles, firstJOIN.time_mins FROM (trains INNER JOIN ((station INNER JOIN lineStation ON station.stationID = lineStation.stationID) INNER JOIN bookingLeg ON bookingLeg.startID = station.stationID or bookingLeg.endID = station.stationID ) ON trains.trainID = bookingLeg.tid) as firstJOIN
Can Access do something similar to this, in the FROM statement I joined 4 tables, because each unique fields are in each table and I have to joined them to get those fields. I called this join firstJOIN and in the SELECT statement, I list those columns in the table by calling it firstJOIN.trainID. Can Access do something like this, but syntax it differently?
I am creating a 2 level report to confirm an order. Main report already created, runs successfully called as subform/subreport under "OrderDetails" form. Linked to master using Order.ID. There are two versions of the confirmation report that have different layouts for different program types.
The hangup comes when I try to add a "Class Dates" subreport. It lists dates of individual classes and Skip dates. I have created the subreport as "srClassDates". When I add it to the main report, it lists the records. However, when I try to link it to the Main report, an error message box appears with the "object variable or With block variable not set".
I have tried rebuilding both the main and subreports, rebuilt the query, have not found anything that changes the result.
Linker has been working successfully on other subforms. Report with groupings works fine, but I need data from 2 tables both linked to order.id.
So I have this relatively simple problem: I need to create a button that once clicked will open the Save As dialog box and allow the user to save a copy of the current database where he wishes. The filename should contain todays date in DDMM format along with some pre-set text e.g. DDMM PresetText.
Error 91 - Object variable or With block variable not set
I am getting this error telling me that an object variable is not set.
I know which variable it is but when I step through the debugger it sets the variable and all is fine? Issue is that public variable of a class is not getting set when the VBA Editor is not open?
This code runs fine the FIRST time, however trows up a message the SECOND time it is run.
The error is on the line ".Range"
I am trying to sort records which have been exported to Excel.
Dim LR As Integer LR = 5 Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application") xlApp.Visible = True Set wbRef = xlApp.Workbooks.Add With wbRef
wbRef.Activate .Worksheets("Sheet1").Activate With ActiveSheet .Range("A2", .Cells(LR, "O").End(xlUp)).Sort Key1:=.Range("C2"), Order1:=xlAscending, Header:=xlYes End With end With
I have a few selected reports on an Access 2007 database that users can run. Is there a way for users to view the report, save as a PDF and automatically save a copy to a shared drive by modules/vba coding as an On Click event procedure?
I have two reports running off of the same crosstab query. I copied one report to make the second report, then modified the second report to change the background of column fields satisfying certain conditions. These lines of code were added to the Detail_Format section, in color below. The report with the extra code lines does not error--the original report errors.
Code: Option Compare Database ' Constant for maximum number of columns EmployeeSales query would ' create plus 1 for a Totals column. Here, you have 9 employees. Const conTotalColumns = 11
[Code] .....
If I say OK (rather than debug) after the error message, I can then click the button for the report again and it runs without complaint. And, as I said, the report with the added code never errors.
I have a networked database. It is accessed with computers that have both Office 2002, and office 2003. I get the following error message on computers with Office 2003:
"Object variable or With block variable not set"
It happens occasionally and the problem generally fixes itself so I dont think there is anything wrong with my coding.
And when it happens on the computers with office 2003 the ones with office 2002 can open the database fine.
