Number To Time Conversion
Jul 16, 2006
I am using MS Access 2000 and have imported some raw data one of the rows of data shows a time but displays this as a general number ie; 1246 or 745 is there any way I can convert this number into a time, 24hr would be nice, so 1246 displays as 12:46 and 745 displays as 07:45 or 1530 displays as 15:30 ?
Best Wishes

Formatting issue regarding elapsed time calculated using DateDiff().
I understand that you can specify the output value for DateDiff(). In my case I have chosen "n" for minutes. Each result in my query shows the correct calculation in terms of minutes.
[PunchIn] = 11/23/2013 8:11:28 AM
[PunchOut] = 11/23/2013 5:43:30 PM
[ShiftLength] =DateDiff("n", [PunchIn],[PunchOut]) = 572 minutes.
Now when I try to format the result in terms of H:MM (be it in a form or a report) I get varied results. I'll illustrate an example below:
=Format(([ShiftLength]/60),"0") & "." & Format(([ShiftLength] Mod 60),"00") Returns 10.32 Not correct
=Format(([ShiftLength]60),"0") & "." & Format(([ShiftLength] Mod 60),"00") Returns 9.32 This is correct but I need my result to be in the form of a decimal such as my next example
=([ShiftLength]/60) Returns 9.53333333. Getting there but how do I have this result only show two decimal points 9.53?

I have placed a combo box on the form. The combo box displays time from 7:00 to 13:00 in the same format. There is a label adjacent to combo box that converts the time selected in the combo box to IST. the code for this is like this
Dim arrLoginTime() As String
arrLoginTime = Split(cmbLoginTime, ":")
lblIST.Caption = Format(TimeSerial(CInt(arrLoginTime(0)), CInt(arrLoginTime(1)), 0) + TimeSerial(10, 30, 0), "hh:mm AM/PM") & " IST"
If I select 12:00 it converts correctly and displays 10:30PM IST. When I select 13:00, it displays 11:30 AM IST instead of 11:30 PM IST.
Any idea how is it behaving and what to do to correct it?

I have a text string in the following format "00:09:10". Is there a function I could use that would convert it to HH:MM:SS?
I have been asked to calculate an average of time spent on a certain task and it is stored as text. Does anyone have suggestions on how this could be accomplished?

I am in the process of building a table on Access 97 where one column will have a list of various buildings. The problem is I will need to import a spreadsheet from Excel 97 into the Table, and although the spreadsheet will match the Access table in terms of column headings, it's data is numerical ie a number has been assigned for each buliding instead of the building name. I need the Access table to show the building name instead of the number.
Is there a validation rule I could use when creating the Access table where a number will = a specific building name. ie 1= Lunar House 2= Apollo House 3 = Mackenzie House etc. So when it does come to importing my spreadsheet the numbers will show as buildings.
Hope you can help....many thanks

My challenge is to fix a broken report that results from a query. The query is suppose to bring up all records within a date range. The problem is that the table was designed with the date field being text. Dates such as 06/12/2006 are entered without the beginning 0, so simple queries do not work, and the data is simply 6122006. I think the data needs converted to date first, possibly by extracting and converting. I do not know how to do this because of the missing digit inconsistency. The table cannot be changed directly to a date field without data loss.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I have some vba that dump an access table into a recordset and then into an excel spreadsheet. When the data is exported Columns I:Q (which are numbers) appear as text (with the green triangle in the upper left corner). I have a pivot table that refreshed however it can't do anything with text.
I've tried just to change the cells format and it doesn't work. The only way I've been able to change it to a number is to click on the green triangle and select "Convert to Number" How can I do this via VBA? The # of rows will change but the columns will always stay the same.

I'm using Access 2010
What I want to be able to do is to assign a back colour to a control from VBA. There are many colours and what I thought would be an easy process was to choose a suitable colour to be assigned using the colour picker for a control, note the hex number then in my vba code would be
if... then me.mycontrol.backcolor=&HF0AD34
This compiles OK, but produces a completely different colour - I'm expecting an orange colour but getting blue and in another example a pale blue is coming out a brown.
Research indicates adding an ampersand to the end changes the value from integer to long but if I type
if... then me.mycontrol.backcolor=&HF0AD34&
The second ampersand disappears. In the immediate window
?&HF0AD34
?&HF0AD34&
?Val("&HF0AD34")
?clng("&HF0AD34")
?Val("&HF0AD34&")
?clng("&HF0AD34&")
All produce the same value of 15772980, which if I copy back to the control backcolour property produces the blue colour and not the required orange - which if i debug.print me.mycontrol.backcolor give me 3452400 - the correct number for orange.
The problem seems to be converting the hex number to a long.
Also how to modify the properties window to show the decimal value rather than the hex value, but can't see anywhere to do this.

Hello to all.
I have been at this for 6 hours and have read countless entires in this forum. I have come close......but not close enough.
I am trying to calculate the difference between two times. I can't use a combination of date and time because if I do, those who use the database won't use it. To much info to input. Right now they input a simple time in the form 16:43 to represent 4:43 PM. They are used to, and like that method.
Everything works fine until I span midnight.
Now I have read all the postings about this issue and how datediff can be used with some wacked out formulas.
I can get the proper time by simply using the formula Format([timestart]-1-[Timeend],"Short Time") in a query. However, I need the total time in hours and minutes as a decimal.
Ex. 7:30 would become 7.5
To make things more complicated I need it rounded to the closest 15 minutes.
Ex. 7:35 would become 7.5
7:40 would become 7.75
If there is a way to do this with datediff great!
Now as I mentioned I have already solved the midnight span problem with the formula above but the result is in the form 7:30.
So if someone can just tell me how to get my query field "TIME" from 7:30 to another field TIMENUM as 7.5 even better
If someone can tell me how to get field TIMESTART and TIMEEND to give me a decimal number EVEN WHEN THE TIMES SPAN MIDNIGHT....well then you are a genius.
Take that one step further to the closest 15 minute interval and you are a genius and my hero =-)

We sell products out of vending machines and once in every few days (time span between readings may be different every time) read data from the machines using flash drive. Each reading from all machines produces an Excel file:
Reading_Date | Machine_ID | Product_ID | Amount_sold
2008-04-08 | 1 | 1 | 26
The only date that we have is the day on which the data has been read and this tells how many sausages were sold from the date of last reading till the date of current reading (after each reading counters are set to zero).
The problem is to get average amount of product X sold from machine Y on every calendar day. For a total rookie like me it seems like creating another column that would divide the Amount_sold by the number of days between two consecutive readings and put this average amount for every calendar day between these two readings. May it be done this way? How? Another way? How? I would be very grateful if anyone could help me and explain the solution in an accessible way.

This must have been answered before, but I can't find it by searching so sorry for the dumb question.
I input a time in hours and minutes in a field with a Short Time format. I would like then to convert this to seconds in a field with a number format so that I can total the seconds and then add them to the results of a calculated DateDiff control to get the grand total of time spent on a project.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Cheers
Rob

I'm trying to create an Access database for my college so that our call centre can allocate students to a specific interview time/date. The problem I'm having is that each interview slot must only have a maximum of 10 students at a time.
I'm creating tables for the student details, address and for each interview slot available.
I'm using Access 2010.
How I can limit the number of records in a table to 10 so that when that interview slot is full it informs the user?

Hi all,
I have an inherited database with years worth of julian dates stored as numbers (e.g. days 1-366 for a leap year). I also have some fields stored as short dates. I would like to run a series of parameterized queries on this data, some using the short data and some using the "julian dates" that are actually just numbers. I have the user enter the start and end date in short date format and would like that to be converted and held in an unbound field as a number value. So far I can get the date to appear as a "julian date" (e.g. 1/1/08 appears as 1, obviously the underlying data is still 1/1/08) How do I take that 1 and convert it to number value "1"? Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Peter

I have a form which uses a loop command to output reports as a PDF. The reports take a bit of time to produce and the record set could contain 100-150 records. Any way that you can split the recordset down into batches. Maybe have a button which creates 1-20 and another 21-40 and so on.

Currently if an employee attends a mandatory training session the details are entered individually into in a single table which contains all the employees' attendances to training, this is achieved via a bound form.
Works Fine.
My question is, if the training is carried out by a number of employees can this attendance be recorded on one form and assigned to each of the employees who attended?

I want to count the number of tasks by department by week. I need the time so my date the task was added is formated as a date/time.
I created a query and added the department (twice so that I can group and count), and transaction date. I clicked on totals and added the count function under the department. I added this criteria to the task date: between [start date] and [end date].
Problem is that it's grouping by day and each one is different because all times are different. How do I group these by day and not time?

I have a rental database and I print several contacts for leases etc. what I want to do is have a unique reference number or something inserted to the report every time that it's printed. What I am trying to achieve is to keep track of which tenant corresponds to the report (Lease) printed by using reference number.
There is a seperate form which holds the tenants details and I would like to have a field on that form which would show the same reference number as the report so I can track which report was printed for who.
Whats the best/easiest way to accomplish this?
