while updating the databse on the server using a ftp client
users get the following error on asp page.

Is there anyway to check if a connection can not be established or the database is being updated
asp page sends friendly message to user that the database is being updated or temporary down or please try again in few seconds.
Any help and idea will be highly appreciated in advance
In the Access application that I have developed for a user, the application is supposed to establish the ODBC connection to an external database when the application is initiated. On my PC, the application works. On an older PC, the application works. However, on the User's PC and on the new one that we are building for her the linking to the external tables does not work. I have displays for the tables that she is to link to as the program is doing the linking. Sometimes, on the PC for her use, the first table will not link and the rest will. Sometimes, none of the tables will link. Sometimes, the first half will link and the second half won't. I am stymied. Below is the logic that I use to make the connections at the beginning of the process. Any suggestions?

I get the above error when I run my login form can anyone help? it points to the code below

Im new to asp and access and have been having this problem for serveral weeks.
Every couple of days, all the asp pages on my site that communicate with the database start having 500 internal errors. i turned off the "Show friendly error messages" and one page gave me this specific error:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Unspecified error
/admin/submitlogin.asp, line 8
I have tried a million things and have no idea why this is happening. Im not sure what other information i should post in order to see the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
I have a recursive script that seems to timeout after a few dozen requests, the database is returning the typical "Microsoft JET Database Engineerror '80004005' " error ("Unspecified error").
The code is pretty straight forward, it is a function that calls itself to generate a tree structure for a site map. It works great the first few dozen times but seems to 'time out' and return the above error after a few dozen records (building the tree).
The code looks like this :
Function BuildContent(id,depth) ' open the children Set GetKids = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") GetKids.ActiveConnection = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=d:usersXXXXhtmldb1.mdb" GetKids.Source = "SELECT ID,Name FROM category WHERE parent = " & id & "" GetKids.CursorType = 0 GetKids.CursorLocation = 2 GetKids.LockType = 1 GetKids.Open() GetKids_numRows = 0
if GetKids.EOF <> true then MyLinks = countlinks(id) MyCats = countkids(id) response.write "Number of Listings (" & GetKids("Name") & "): " & Mylinks & "<br>"
maxdepth = 1 BuildContent = "<ol>" while GetKids.EOF <> true
if MyCats > 0 then show = true if KidsCats > 0 then show = true if depth < maxdepth then show = false
if KidsLinks > 0 then show = true if MyLinks > 0 then show = true
if show = true then BuildContent = BuildContent & "<li><a href='" & GetKids("id") & "_e.asp'>" & GetKids("name") & "</a></li>" else BuildContent = BuildContent & "<li>" & GetKids("name") & "</li>" end if if depth < maxdepth then BuildContent = BuildContent & BuildContent(GetKids("id"),depth+1) GetKids.MoveNext wend GetKids.Close() Set GetKids = Nothing
BuildContent = BuildContent & "<br></ol>" end if End Function
there are a couple of support fuctions :
Function countkids(id) Set GetListing = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") GetListing.ActiveConnection = MM_Connection_STRING GetListing.Source = "select * FROM category WHERE parent = " & id & "" GetListing.CursorType = 1 GetListing.CursorLocation = 2 GetListing.LockType = 1 GetListing.Open() GetListing_numRows = 0 countkids = GetListing.RecordCount GetListing.Close Set GetListing = Nothing End Function
Function countlinks(id) Set GetListing = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") GetListing.ActiveConnection = MM_Connection_STRING GetListing.Source = "select * FROM records WHERE parent = " & id & "" GetListing.CursorType = 1 GetListing.CursorLocation = 2 GetListing.LockType = 1 GetListing.Open() GetListing_numRows = 0 countlinks = GetListing.RecordCount GetListing.Close Set GetListing = Nothing End Function
I think the DB is being called too often, too quickly but I have no way of slowing the script down. If that's the case, is there a way to slow the code execution to give the DB time to catch up?
Otherwise, is it a driver problem (Microsoft JET Database Engineerror '80004005' ) and would switching to a OBDC connection give me better results or should I be using a different db driver?
My program is an Access 2003 database that connects to SQL 2000. I have a continuous form that shows between 10 an 25 records. I have coded an update button that when clicked updates a check box on each record displayed and then updates the form. Normally this works perfectly. However, sometimes when the button is clicked nothing happens for aproximately a minute then the user gets the error ODBC - call failed and no records are uodated. I have tried resetting the view from Dynaset to Dynaset (Incosistent Updates) and extending the timeout to 300. I have also tried extending the MSAceess Page timeout setting to 5000 instead of 5 under ODBC. Nothing has helped. Does any have any other solutions? Or a way to get a more specific error. I am really just guessing that it is a time out issue.
Hi All....getting an "ODBC --call failed" error when trying to re-link tables in the Linked Table Manager in Access. I'm having a problem connecting to one particular Oracle database. I am able to connect to other DBs with no problem.
I can also connect to the problem database through SQL Navigator. And I've been able to connect to it in Access in the past. Any ideas?
The code below should add a record to another table when a box is ticked. It worked fine when I wrote it in a local Access 2003 form.I have since migrated the tables to Azure and connect via ODBC, and now I get this error:nOpenRecordsetBug.PNG
A search for Identities told me to modify the code as in the second screenshot, and I now have a different error: InvalidArgument.JPG
i am using access against an Oracle DB through an ODBC driver, and when appending records to a local table, if access gets an Oracle record error "#deleted", the append query aborts. . . that's fine, but I can't figure out how to trap the error to get the rest of the records. . .
My tables are sybase linked tables to my Access front end. I get this error whenever i click away from my mainform while my not-null fields (textboxes) have not been entered. So, i would like to put an error message "somewhere" that tells the user to fill in the necessary fields and highlight the necessary textboxes in red, instead of this scary ODBC message http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/6829/error0el.png :eek: :eek:
When i put my error handling in the afterUpdate or afterInsert Event. I still get the above error msg instead of my msgbox. Where do i put this message? or should be question be, "what the proper way to handle this intimidating error? :)
Here's my error handling:
On Error GoTo Err_Form_AfterInsert
'do something
Exit_Form_AfterInsert: Exit Sub
Err_Form_AfterInsert: MsgBox Err.Description, vbExclamation, "Please enter the Project Name, Project Leader Initials, Main User and Status Code" & Err.Number Me!Combo67.BackColor = "red" Me!Combo65.BackColor = "red" Me![Project Name].BackColor = "red" Me![Project Leader Initials Combo].BackColor = "red" Resume Exit_Form_AfterInsert
I have an ODBC connection to our company's data that uses Macola. I can enter criteria in the fields in Access to filter that data, but when I try to put a parameter query in such as [Enter order number:] I always get an "ODBC-call failed" message, error# 3146. Can I even solve this problem, or am I just not going to be able to actively change the criteria unless through a pivot chart or table, or by hand? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Can anyone tell me what I need to look for?
P.S. This is an Online Food Menu which is inside an 'Employee Directory' that is a web application. When a user open up the 'Employee Directory', it load up the page along with an icon to view 'Online Food Menu'. Kind of like having a web application within a web application. Updating the Employee Directory is not a problem. The issue lies on the admin side where s/he try to update the menu, it give 2 of the above errors that I mention.
I have a problem with my query which works fine prior to upsizing to SQL Server. Now I have an Access Front-end with SQL Server (2005) back-end client/server setup. This problem has bugged me for over one full day and I can't find anything that seems to solve it.
The error that comes up is this:
Run-time error '3146': ODBC--call failed. [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '='. (#102)
The line that's producing the error is a DoCmd.RunSQL "SELECT tblPBC..." The full statement is below. I can't seem to see anything wrong w/ my syntax below....
Connecting Access FE to SQL SERVER BE Connection is fine. I can open and close it and other queries work fine. I have only one problem with the SQL in one query
Code: With rstRPT If FirstRecord = True Then .Open "SELECT Min([" & SourceTbl & "].[3Order ID]) AS MinOf3OrderID " & _
[Code].....
why it wants to see the variable as a column name?
My main experience is with MySQL and PHP so I'm kindof stumbling around in the dark here. Heres my story:
We recieved a new server and migrating from (Windows Server 2000, IIS 5.0, Access 2000) to (Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0, Access 2003) has been nothing but problems.
I have setup IIS to work with ASP, I've also setup a system DSN. The access file was copied over from the previous server. We're running Access 2003 and now I can't seem to get this ASP script to work.
When I try to upload a file to the script I get this error:

I set an alert after this line but it doesn't pop up.
ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'll be checking this very frequently.
We are using Access 2000 as our front end and SQL 2000 as the back end. We use ODBC to connect to the SQL database. One of my access 2000 programs was getting a little sketchy. So I created and new access 2000 database and imported all the modules, macros, reports, queries and tables. That all worked just fine accept now every time I open the new database it ask me to log in, I think it’s the ODBC connection. I have run table link manager, but it still asked me to log in. I have six other Access databases and none of them ask me to log in. So what am I missing?
Requirement - To generate a report from a remote database
Methods opted - 1. Excel - Connect remote database via odbc connectivity for the required query - Excel generates the report and it can be refreshed when required
2. Access - Connect remote database via odbc connectivity using link tables - Generate report by writing a query on the linked table - Since it is linked, it gets refreshed automatically
I want to go for ms access option since database is increasing day by day and excel will not be hold it.
But linking tables takes more time. Can you please suggest to extract data from remote database without linking tables?
It is not required to link the database in real time ie., No automatic refresh of data is required. Periodic refresh is enough. Not the whole table is required to be linked. Query which returns current year data from the database is enough to generate the report. So, is there anyway to link query in ms access? Please let me know how to connect remote database fastly?
i am using access as a front end to SQL Server 2005 and link tables via ODBC.
Today when I run a query (normally works fine) I receive an ODBC Failed message box. I have tried opening each link table connected to the query and can open fine.
I'm using Microsoft Query to get data from a MS Access database into MS Excel. It seems that whenever I pull data from a UNION QUERY or SELECT QUERY based on a UNION QUERY I get an error message:
