Opening Smaller Windows

Sep 15, 2006

Hi Guys

Im' Pulling my hair out at the moment trying to get my forms to re-open in the smaller view after ive closed them.

Ive tried Cmd.movesize which works ok occasionally but when you turn your back the next time the darn thing opens maximised.

Is there a simple command to get the window to open in the smaller mode like DoCmd.Maximize does for the full size mode?

I would be much obliged for any help with this one.

Thanks in advance for any help offered

All the very best for now

Tony

Windows 8 Runtime - Listboxes Not Opening Records

Oct 24, 2013

I have a listbox that another subform on the same main pulls results from the column(0) id from (using text box that pulls the list record selected)

When you click once it (listbox) shows the records in the second form for the corresponding. When you double click it opens the record of the selected (listbox)

This works great in Runtime 2010 for all my 32bit staff and vista

however in 64bit win 8 with any runtime including 2013 64bit the database listbox works for a while, then slows and then stops opening the record on double click and when I say slows it slows to a crawl speed like it is looking up the query in the subform instead of just opening the record with the double click.

I was thinking mouse double click settings but they seem fine and as I said before it works fine for a while.

Modules & VBA :: Relink Multiple BE Files / Locations Depending On User Windows Login

Mar 20, 2014

Access2007

At this point, FE db has 4 linked tables, 3 are located in FileBE1, and the 4th is located in FileBE2.

The production BE is located on a server, the test (when working remotely) is on a local computer that is not able to connect to the server. Also, the test BE files (but not the table names) have different names than the production.

I have the idea of creating a table in the Front End that contains a list of users, filename and location (server or local drive).

Upon startup, how could I set up the vba to check the links and if they need to be changed will go and change them without the user having to click on link table manager or be prompted for names and path.

For now, I envision three rows in the table, one for the test user, one for local user and a default UNC for everyone else. (or would it be six rows since there are two files that need link checking and relinking).

Trouble Opening Access Files

Nov 27, 2006

Hi,

I was wondering if i could get some help here. I think this is to do with the security issue. I usually double-click to open or run an access file (for example student.mdb) that sits on the server with no problem. But this time, nothing happen when i did double-clicked on it from my laptop while the file was being open by someone'else on another computer. I know that it makes sense that we shouldn't open a file that's being used by other users. But my curiosity is that should it not give you a warning like (you know) you're not able to save any changes or things like that. No, i didnot get any of that messages. It's just nothing happen after trying to open it by double-clicking it.

I have set the macro security to low level but that did not help either. Is there any thing that i need to tweak?

Thank you in advance

Error Opening MDB Files On New Setup

Apr 28, 2006

I just recently helped a local business move their files to a new server, and reinstall fresh windows and office on all their machines. I have run into a problem with Access, hoping someone can help.

Sometimes (usually when someone else has the file open), if you double click on the mdb file (which is on a mapped drive) nothing happens. If you make a shortcut that doesnt help. But if you open Access, and then goto File-Open and located the MDB file that way, it opens fine.

This is annoying to the employees and they want a solution.

Anyone run into this problem?

Forms :: Opening Files From A Form

Apr 15, 2013

I have a very simple table of basically a unique number and a couple data fields. On my form with those same fields, I need to be able to create a button that opens a pdf file that is named the same as that unique number. Here is the kicker...I have been able to create a hyperlink with a link to that file and it works fine.... I am trying to set it up so that the file name is automatically put into the hyperlink statement according to what the unique number is for each record.

what I did so far...

in my hyperlink: *file://c:/docubase/3840.pdf (only put * in so not a link here)

this works fine but I need the syntac to make that line take into account the account field (ID) for each record. So something similar to this (already tried this and it doesnt work)

*file://c:/docubase/[id].pdf

Access 2007 Opening Files In Read Only

Nov 21, 2007

There's possibly a very simple answer to this but it's been boggling my mind all morning and I can't find any answers on the net.

I'm opening a db on a network that was built with Access 2003. When I open it with Access 2003 on one pc it opens fine and I can edit it. But when I open it with Access 2007 I get a message saying that's it's opened the db in read only mode and that if I want to edit it I have to save a copy.

I tried opening the db exclusively but still no luck. Is there a reason why it's doing this and how do I get around it?

Many thanks,

Peter

Modules & VBA :: How To Disable Security Pop Ups When Opening External Files In Access 2010

Aug 1, 2013

[URL]

I have a button on a form, when it is clicked it opens a video file located in a folder on the local computer. Each time the button is clicked a security pop up appears that says "Opening file://C:lahblahyadayadaFile.mp4 Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file?" options are open or cancel. How can these messages be turned off?

I have already played around in the trust center of Access 2010 and changed the "trusted documents", "trusted locations", and "message Bar" tabs with no results. Do I have to play with regedit in windows to get rid of these pop ups? Or can I somehow use VBA code to disable them?They are just a nescience.

Works On Windows 2000 Not Windows 2003

Sep 19, 2006

I have a website that is asp (not .net) based with an Access DB and I am in the process of replacing an old windows 2000 server with a much faster windows 2003 server. Here lies the problem I have a script as part of the admin that exports data to a csv file. The query joins 4 tables together to get the data needed for the export. On the windows 2000 server it takes 1-5 seconds to execute and have the csv file ready for download. On the window 2003 server it times out. I striped it down to use 2 joins and it worked although it took more like 10-20 seconds to export. This exports a specific range of ID's and the range is normally only 40-50 rows. If I put time stamps in the code the problem is in the query of the database, so I know its not in the file write etc.

I am going to rewrite it to use multible querys instead of one large query, but I have many other sites that I am moving to this server that would work better if I can figure out why it is so slow.

The windows 2000 is a 900 mhz server the windows 2003 is a 2.8GHZ server both have 1 GIG of ram. The database file is on the local drive on both servers. I am guessing it is a difference in the Jet version, I just haven't been able to find a solution to the problem. This uses a DSN connection, configured the same on both servers. I have also tried it as a DSN-less connection with the same result.

I have installed access on the server and to execute the command in access it is <2 sec.

I am not an access expert I normally program in .net and php and use MySQL and MsSQL for databases, we just have these legacy sites that use Access DB's

Access And Windows 98 To Windows 2000

Nov 27, 2006

Hi All,

This is my problem -

My customer has Access programs that work on their Windows 98 OS PC's, but when they try to use them on Windows 2000 OS PC's they will not work.
The programs I believe were originally written in Access 97 and now they have Access 2000 on the PC's.

By not working I mean the following -

The Access program allows them to enter a document name and then the file opens in Word - BUT - when they use it in Windows 2000 it does not open the document at all. It says file not found in Windows 2000 and the file does exist.

** The reason they have Access opening files is that Access keeps track of them for auditing purposes.

Now here is something that I want to mention. On PC's that were upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 the programs work.

Can anyone here tell me what is missing from 98 to 2000 that would do this.

Thank you very much for your time.

Forms :: Closing Opening Form With Timer Then Opening Main Menu

Apr 7, 2014

I have a Form opening from Access Options. I would like to close this Form using the Timer. The following is the code I have used but it is not working.

Private Sub Cover_Page_Form_Load()
OpenTimer = Timer
End Sub
Private Sub Cover_Page_Form_Timer()
If (Timer - OpenTime) = 5 Then DoCmd.Close acForm, "Cover_Page_Form", acSaveYes
End Sub

Next question. If I can get this to work can I then use a DoCmd to open new Form within the code above or do I need a new process.

Access And Windows XP

Nov 30, 2005

We have recently converted from Office 97 to 2003 and Windows NT4 to XP.

In the old days, when I opened a database up I would use autoexec and the db would open to a particular form. On the windows display it would just show that I had a particular Access database open. On windows XP, if I open the database the same way I get two bars at the bottom of the screen showing the objects and the relevant form. This means that all the design is available for people to see.

I am not that clever to have front and back ends etc, so how do I get it to just display the appropriate query / form / report etc.

I hope that I have made it clear. The XP feature showing how many files you have open is quite handy if you want to look at two Word documents but in Access it allows people to fiddle. If they can't see it they can't fiddle with it.

I have an issue with access97 when installed on a windows XP pro sp2 machine. I am constantly getting errors from the vba332.dll module and access shuts down on me. This happens even if I try to go to tools - options on the main menu bar. If any one has encountered this before please help!

Is it possible to display the user name used to log on to windows on a form?

Function fOSMachineName() As String
Dim lngLen As Long, lngX As Long
Dim strCompName As String

lngX = apiGetComputerName(strCompName, lngLen)
If lngX <> 0 Then
fOSMachineName = Left$(strCompName, lngLen)
Else
fOSMachineName = ""
End If

End Function

Then use =fOSMachineName() in a label

Windows Username

Jul 25, 2006

A couple of questions. I want my database to query the AD and make sure that the user trying to open the database had an account in the AD. I dont want them prompted for a password though. I have had a look at trying to change the example NT logon in the samples area, but just managed to get myself in a bit of a mess. Also is there anyway that you can query the users full name in AD and call that variable,or does this only work with the username?

Also, when a user created a record in a from, I would like the users username, called from the AD saved in a field in the table. I have tried this and the only way that I can call the variable is by having the "=Environ("USERNAME")" in the control source of the text box. Which means that it cant be save in a field in the table. I have also tried an after updated event on that textbox to update another textbox and have that textbox control source a field on the table. But again this doesn't work. Can someone tell me if what I am trying to do is possible. Thanks

Subforms & New Windows

Sep 15, 2004

There are three tables in my database. Clients, Accounts, and transactions. I have a form which when you select a Client an "accounts subform" populates with their accounts and the "transactions subform" populates with their transactions for the selected account. YOu can select different accounts and the transactions will change. Unfortunately all these things on 1 form is cluttered. Is there a way to open the transactions in a new window? So if i clicked an account record, a new transaction window would pop up. I'm not sure if you can make that relationship.

Thx
