Opening A Form Based On The Same Table As The Calling Form
May 22, 2006
Hi All
I have a form based on a table called tblListMaster and I want to allow users to open up another form showing all the members of one of the entries in that table so I have added a button called 'Show List Members'.
The list members form which I then want to bring up is also based on tblListMembers (it's a master-detail form). When I hit the button to open up the list members form I get an error message saying that the table is already opened exclusively.
I can understand why I get that message so I thought I would be cunning and create a dummy form which I open up, passing in my list id in the openargs (at that point I also close the original form) and then from that dummy form automatically open up the master detail form and close the dummy.
Code in List Master form
Private Sub cmdListMembers_Click()
' open up the list members form
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmDummy", acNormal, , , , , Me.ListId
DoCmd.Close
End Sub
Code in Form Load of dummy form
Private Sub Form_Load()
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmMaintainListMembers", acNormal, , , , acWindowNormal, Me.OpenArgs
DoCmd.Close
End Sub
Sadly I still get the same error message - does any one have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I wish to open a form based on the transaction table populate one of the foreign key fields with a selected value from a combo box from the switch board (with going to a mainform&subform). I know how to get the value of the combo box on the switchboard. I just know how to then store this value in the foreign key field. stSelectedCustomer = Forms![Switchboard].[CustomerID] gives me the value from the combo box on the switchboard. I then want to open the transaction form to open a new record and have Customer ID on this form be the stSelectedCustomer storing this value in the transaction table when the user enters values in the other fields.

I seem to need some help!
I have a table with customer information in it ie: name, vehicle, (Key=Id number)...
it is the master link to the repair table ie: mileage, (Key=ROnumber), and repair data..
these two work together beautifull
now I need to add another table, a check sheet for checking over a vehicle.
I create the table and the form however I cannot open a new form with the ROnumber from the second already open form into the newly open form.
(the second form is based on a Query, and I have tried changing it to a SQL statement both with no luck)
is there an example of what I need to be doing to link the ROnumber to the ROnumber in the new form, or create the ROnumber so it will add the data in the linked table?
I need this to open using a button on the open repair form

OK, I have two forms:
Form 1: Courses
Form 2: Mark Grid
The user select the class from [Combo28] for the unit already in [Textbox named Unit] from Form 1 and wants to list all the students for that particular class and unit in form 2.
I have tried god knows how many different codes. I've been playing with:
DoCmd.OpenForm "Mark Grid", , , "[Text43]=" & Me![Combo28] & " AND [Text17]= '" & Me![Unit] & "'"
But with no luck.

I have a main Form "Client" that shows details such as Representatives, phone numbers, status, etc. I also have a main report "CRM" that is a nicer summarized table version of all of my Client form entries.
The "CRM" form will be used by others in my office to see what clients we are contacting, etc. What I want to be able to do is have someone open the CRM form first. If they want to see even more specific info (not everything is included in the report, as that would be too messy), I want them to be able to double click the Client's name on the report and be taking to the corresponding entry on the Client form that shows more details.
Right now my code for the Report which is not working is the following:
Private Sub Client_Name_DblClick()'double click on a client name in the reportDoCmd.OpenForm "Client", acNormal, , "[Client_Name]='" & [Client_Name]'this should open the Client Form to the record of the same client that was double clicked on the reportEnd Sub

I have a form "frm_PatientNew" based on table "tbl_patients", this form contains a button "cmd_NewVisit" which is supposed to do the following: opens the form "frm_NewVisit" for recording a new visit for the last recorded patient in "tbl_Patients", I found many approaches depending on DMax and Dlookup and they worked fine just if "frm_NewVisit" is bound to "tbl_Patients", but "frm_NewVisit" is bound to "tbl_Main" which acts as a container for all information (patient data, visit data,service done and service provider), so the form "frm_NewVisit" contains fields from different tables. I wonder if I should create "frm_NewVisit" as unbound form, then adding fields from different tables to it and using vba to populate "tbl_Main",

I have Form A that is bound to tbl_Member (MemberId, LastName, FirstName, and some other fields).
On Form A is a combobox [cbo_Selector]. The combobox shows LastName and FirstName from tbl_Member, but when a name is selected, it returns the member's ID to Form A and causes that member's record to show in Form A (along with other data pertinent to the member). This works fine until I type a name into the combobox that does not exist in the underlying table.
I use the NotInList event of the combobox to pop up another form (Form B) in the DataEntry mode. Form B is bound to the same table as Form A. I enter the LastName, FirstName, and exit Form B. What I am trying to do is to have Form B pass back the new MemberId to Form A and specifically to add that record's data to the combobox on Form A.
I have tried several things to accomplish this. When Form B updates, the table has the new member added, but when I try to requery Form A or the combobox, I get errors. how do I communicate to the combobox in Form A the information from the newly added record?

I have created a module with a function that capitalizes the third letter in words that begin with "Mc". I have a table with the city field all uppercase letters. I created an update query that takes the field and correctly changes it. How you would go about tying this function to the textbox on the input form. So, if a user incorrectly enters "mccoy" in the City Field the function would be called and would automatically change it to "McCoy".

I have been tasked with creating a tool to analyse mobile phone bill data and present the analysis, and our recommendation, to a customers. Being new to Access (other than basic tuition) this has been a slow uphill task, which is finally nearing completion, however there is a problem which I have not yet been able to overcome.
The requirement is for the DB to open first on a splash screen (lets call it Form A) with fancy picture where our customer is selected from a combo box, the customer is then telephoned, a linked computer screen is established and our staff then click "Go" to proceed to a second form (Form B) showing an account overview and more details.
The problem I have is when "Go" is clicked, the second form loads via on click event, and even populates the correct customer in its combo box. Unfortunately that is as far as it gets - the combo does not look up the information. The customer needs to be selected again for the subforms and subreports to load with the customer overview. To clarify, form B just sits there blank until the customer is re-selcted from the combo box in form B.

I have made a table and quered that table. I have a form that I designed and is working well. It updates the table like it is supposed to. The problem I have is when I go in and change the master table. I decided that instead of havinga field titled "Unlisted/Listed" I just made it Listed and you put a yes or no. But when I do that and go back to the form a box pops up asking for some value. How do I fix this? Thank you.

Hi. I have spent ages searching, but I can't find anything relating specifically to what I want to do, and I'm simply not experienced enough to make up the code as I go along.
I want to call a value from a field in TableA to a textbox on a form bound to TableB. I know, its probably simple, but I can't figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a database with a table that contains 360,000 rows. I built a form with four boxes where a user can specify values to limit the result set. And instead of having a new window open with the results, I built a subform and placed it on the main form to display the results.
Here is how it flows:
Main Form -> user enters search criteria
Search Criteria -> feed as criteria in query
Query Results -> display on subform
Subform -> shows on main form
The query is setup to take the values from the main form and either use it if it's not null, or return all values if the field is null.
The problem I am having is that on opening the main form, Access is taking the four null values from the main form search fields, feeding them to the query, which is then feeding the subform. So 10 minutes later when the main form finally opens, I have 360K records displaying in my subform.
What I would like is to be able to open the main form instantly, specify my search criteria, then run the query, then have the query results populate the subform.
What do I need to do?

I want to call the "On Current" event of another form.
I have a parent(mainform) form and then I have a subform(CurrentForm) and in that subform(CurrentForm) I have another subform(mysubtab01). From the mySubTab01, I want to call the On Current of the parent form. How can i do this?
This is an example of how I am setting the record source of the deepest subform where I want to call the parent on current from:
Forms(mainform)(CurrentForm)(mySubTab01).Form.Reco rdSource = "Select * from subQrytab03"

I'm trying to get a combo box & button to work together. On the main form of the attached database, I just want the button to go to the associated record based off my selection (or entry) in the combo box.
I've tried the following:
- Looked through the Northwind sample database for a close example. Tried my best to replicate the functions but it didn't work
- Looked through other examples posted and tried to manipulate the code to no avail
- Tried using [Forms]![Main Form]![cmbLastName] in both the filter & criteria section of the macro

Form #1 allows me to modify/add data to records in Table A.
Form #2 is restricted to displaying (no edit, add, delete capabilities) information from a query that is based on Table A.
I need to find a way to open an instance of Form #2 while in Form #1, but I keep getting the following message...
"The table 'TableA' is already opened exclusively by another user, or it is already open through the user interface and cannot be manipulated programmatically."
Any suggestions for how I can get around this?
The data I want to display in Form #2 is not linked to the record being displayed in Form #1, so a subform will not work.
Thanks in advance!

I am using an on-click event on my form to call up a report for the current record. It has been a while since I've used the form to call the report, but I always remember it working correctly. Today when I try to call up the report, it opens but no record is being pulled up so the report pulls up blank.
Code:
DoCmd.OpenReport "rptSupplierInformation", acViewPreview, , "[OperationID]=" & [cboMoveTo], acWindowNormal

I have a Form opening from Access Options. I would like to close this Form using the Timer. The following is the code I have used but it is not working.
Private Sub Cover_Page_Form_Load()
OpenTimer = Timer
End Sub
Private Sub Cover_Page_Form_Timer()
If (Timer - OpenTime) = 5 Then DoCmd.Close acForm, "Cover_Page_Form", acSaveYes
End Sub
Next question. If I can get this to work can I then use a DoCmd to open new Form within the code above or do I need a new process.

I have created a custom message box form that suits my needs for this particular situation. It is called (opened) in the middle of a bunch of other VBA procedures. What I am having a problem with is how do I "pause" the rest of the code from running after the message box call?
For example, with a regular msgbox() function, once called, the code will wait for the user input or click of a button, then continue. My problem is that I am using the basic docmd.openform procedure, and it opens the message box form just fine, but then continues on with the rest of the code after the form is opened.
How would I "pause" the code after the call of opening my custom message box form, then continue it after the user clicks one of my closing buttons from that form?
Furthermore, although its not entirely needed in this situation, for future reference, how would I have that message box form return a value to the calling procedure?

So Access was unable to manage the amount of content that I needed to produce in a single report. The reports contain 12 charts/graphs all of which I needed on separate pages (one chart per page). As such I could not create large enough charts in access to fit to each page, as Access limits the amount of space one can use in a report.
I downloaded Microsoft Reports Builder 3.0 and built my reports as needed and can generate them as desired at current. I'm wondering if there a way to call that RDL file I created to generate my reports from a form control button in Access?

I have a form which uses a parameter based query to present an individual senior doctor with a list of names for of individual juniors to provide an assessment report on. When the first form opens the user enters their RespondentID.
Once senior has decided which names to comment on I have another form which has the questions to be answered which is opened by clicking a button on the first form.
How can I pass a parameter from the first form to the second so that only the records relevant to that senior doctor are displayed? The underlying table has 60 senior doctors and 20 junior doctors. The senior doctor is identified by the field RespondentID in the first form. I've tried putting a WhereClause in the FormOpen command but I still get a dialogue box asking for the parameter RespondentID when the second form is opened.

I am using Access 2010 - Version 14.0.61.29.5000 (32-bit)
I am building a custom Export Wizard to export data to Excel using the Report Wizard for the basic ideas.
All I am trying to do is have a [Back] button on a form to open another form and close the current form.
Private Sub cmdBack_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "frm_ExportWizardPage2", , , , , , Nz(Me.OpenArgs)
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frm_ExportWizardPage3"
End Sub
The new form is opening but then the current form is not closing. All forms are the same size, shape and positioned centrally although this should not make any difference.
Could this be anything to do with which form has the focus when I open the new form?
