Opening Forms In Data Sheet View
Jun 30, 2005
I have a main menu that I select things to open. Most of the things I open I open in form view but some I want to open in data sheet view.
Without recoding my menu code is there a way to specify in the form to be opened that it should open in data sheet veiw?
Right now I have the default view as data sheet view in the forms but because my calling code is not specifying any view they default to form view, and again I don't want to edit that code in my main menu.

How can it be that from Design view I can go to data sheet view, but from form view there is no option for data sheet view? On form property sheet "allow data sheet view" is "yes".

On a subform that records notes in datasheet view (columns: Date, Note; sorted in reverse chronological order with newest at the top), is there a way to get the blank new record line to appear at the top? Otherwise, you have to counter-intuitively scroll down below the oldest entry to enter a new line.
We could sort in chronological order, but then the most relevant notes would sometimes be scrolled off the bottom of the form and not seen.

I have a main form (tsTimeSheetMain) which contains a sub form (tsTimeSheetDataNewSub) in data sheet view. When I click off one row onto another row in the sub form, it triggers this code:
Forms!tsTimeSheetMain!ProjectMonSum.Requery
i.e. it tries to requery the ProjectMonSum field (on the main form) which is a dsum calculated field. This works fine and updates the ProjectMonSum field (which dsums values from the same datasource as the subform.
However, this seems to put the cursor back to the top left field in the subform (datasheet view), rather than leave it in the field I click on (in the subform).
Why is this happening and what is a decent workaround this issue? I just want to update the calculated dsum field each time you update values in the subform.

Had to reinstall OS system. Upon reinstalling Access 2010, and my data, scroll wheel did not move the screen. Previously, worked in typical fashion. Now, have to use the scroll bar. Just plain old Datasheet view. Cannot seem to find any "setting" for this behavior, e.g., Navigation, or in any of the other options screens. Merely want the scroll wheel to work like it does in any other program, alternative to the bar. Recalled the same thing happened on installing Access to my lap top recently. Scroll wheel didn't work. Then, all of a sudden (i.e., I didn't think that I did anything, such as a setting, to change behavior) it started working as a typical scroll wheel.

I created a new field as a text box, converted it to Combo box, then the Values are pulled from a query and all that works fine.
I have a form that opens and displays these Fields in a Data Sheet view and the new Combo box doesn't drop down and is flagged as a text box in the property bar but no way to change it??
I need the drop down like the other Category field I have, that works but this one doesn't.
See screen shot.
You can see in the Category field, there is a Drop down, but in Category II there is not, even though this is a drop down field. - BUT in this data sheet view it doesn't show it as a drop down.

Code:
Private Sub Run_Activity_Duration_Totals_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm ("frm_Activity_Duration_Totals_25_Hours"), AcFormView = acFormDS

I keep getting a message saying
Compile Error: Type Mismatch
and the equals sign is highlighted in my code.

I have read various answers on how to open a form in Datasheet view from VBA code, but I can't get my syntax correct.
Here is one of my 50 attempts to guess at the format. Removing different components, separators, variables only gets me a syntax error of missing separator or "expected =".
DoCmd.OpenForm ("frm_OrdersHOTHeadersOnlyWORKSHEET", [View as acFormView=acFormDS], , , , ,[acFormEdit])

I'm trying to protect the frontend of my database from unwanted changes. How to disable the navigation pane, ribbon, and only display my navigation form. My navigation form has 10 buttons that open forms for data entry. I only want the users to be able to open forms and add data. I don't want them to be able to go to the navigation pane or anything other than the forms.

I have a excel table (lets say the format is as follows)
col1 col2
dataset1 value1
dataset2 value2
(where col1 and col2 are the column names and dataset x and value x are the respective data values of each column) I have a access form and it has a combo box and a text box From Combo box I need to retrieve data available in col1 o excel once a particular dataset in col1 has been selected by Combo box the respective value in col2 should be displayed in text box in access form.
I was trying to create a linked table in excel to access ( I don't want to export data from excell to access since my excell sheet is getting changing time to time. so i don't need to change the access table every time)
for combo box a simple query like below works to select the col1 values from sheet 1
select col1 from Sheet1 (where Sheet1 is the linked table name in access)
I wrote a code similar to below using DLookup to get respective values from col2 however it gives a error '#Name?
=DLookup(col2,Sheet1,col1=[Forms]![FormName]![ComboBox Name])
(here sheet 1 is the linked table name in access, I didnt give the absolute path of the excell file)
this returns the above #Name?

When opening an access object (Form, report, table or query) in design mode (Access2013), the speed at which the Property Sheet responds depends on how long it has been since a windows update has taken place. To be more specific, immediately after an update and reconfiguration, the Property Sheet responds almost instantaneously; after a few days it can take several minutes to respond.

I have a query, which looks like that:
ID Year SAP Geris
1 2008 20,00 € 5,00 €
1 2009 40,00 € 4,00 €
1 2010 60,00 € 6,00 €
2 2007 80,00 € 4,00 €
2 2008 100,00 € 8,00 €
2 2009 100,00 € 4,00 €
3 2008 1.000,00 € 1,00 €
3 2009 100,00 € 8,00 €
3 2010 2,00 € 9,00 €
4 2008 9,00 € 10,00€
So each combination has an ID. It's called the SuWID. I want to Transfer the data to a fixed Excel sheet. I wrote the following code
Dim xlApp As Object ' Excel.Application
Dim xlBook As Object ' Excel.Workbook
Dim xlSheet As Object ' Excel.Worksheet
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlApp.Visible = True
[Code] ....
The only Thing what i still want to have is that, before it opens the Excel form, which works already perfectly well, that a msgbox will Show up and ask me, which SuWID do you want to see in the Excel sheet.

A member of the Access User Group that I am associated with has asked a question that I can't answer.
In older versions of Access, when you went from Form Design View to Form View, if the Properties Sheet had been visible, it would be hidden in Form View. Since probably Access 2000, the Properties Sheet remains visible in Form View (if it was opened in Design View). Not a big problem, you say? Well, it is to this person, who is concerned about her users seeing the Properties Sheet and making changes in it.
Anyone know a way to defeat this behavior and hide the Properties Sheet in Form View?
Thanks.

Hi,
I've got a DB where I need to simply change a few images on the form buttons. When I open the file I cannot access design view at all. There is no toolbar and the menu doesn't contain View, just file, edit etc. I can edit the properties of the records etc but this is all I can do. I thought maybe it had something to do with it being created in a different version of Access but still it will open in this way only. There is no messae telling me I'm locked from anything and I've tried ctrl + enter etc. I'm running Access 2003.
Does anyone know what's wrong? Its driving me nuts.

I have been having problems with opening a form to add new records only. I have gone through all possible solutions but somehow the problem persists.I want to add new records only and not view any of the existing records. I have set the form properties to Date Entry Yes, Allow additions to Yes, Allow Edits to No. The form opens through a command button on another form and the vba code is the following.
DoCmd.OpenForm "FormInvDetails", acNormal, , , , acDialog

I am using Excel/VBA as a frontend and Access backend. The sheet2 stores the queue name and Queue number. We have to update the sheet1 from column L to column O by looking for the values from the Access table for the date selected from the comboboxes. Now In sheet 2 , it says Queue number and in actual in access table it is the combination of Type & Type1 & Type2. So we have to look for Type & Type1 & Type2 in the table and find out total Batches ,Total Envelopes,Total documents and total pages and then store the values in the ExcelSheet1 from column L to column O.
The following formulas will be used in the select statment:
Total Batches = count(BatchNo) for date selected
Total Envelopes=sum(Envelopes) for date selected
Total Documents=sum(Cases) for date selected
Total Pages=sum(Pages) for date selected

I have a main form "FrmTimesheetEdit" that I open in edit mode to review data in a query that uses two tables TblEmployee and TblTimeSheet. The TblEmployee has two fields called EmployeeID, and Employee. The Tbltimesheet table has a field "Weekendingdate" and "EmployeeID".Prior to loading the mainform I launch a form "frmEmployeeReportRange" that allows me to specify via combo box the Employee I am interested in and also the time periods I am interested in being "Beginningdate" and "EndingDate" These in turn are criteria for my query that supplies data to the main form "FrmTimesheetEdit" Everything seems to work ok.
However the first time I open the main form It open a form/window saying "Enter parameter Value" for EmployeeId, BeginningDate and Ending date respectively. Then the subform loads "frmEmployeeReportRange" which allows me to specify Employee plus beginning and ending dates. I select Employee from the combo box say "Emp1" and specify Beginning and Ending dates of 1-Jun-2013 and 30-Jun-2013. I then make the form invisible and the mainform opens up.I do this but get no records. If I close the main form "FrmTimesheetEdit" and reopen it the subform pops up as expected. It is preloaded with the data I entered the first time i.e. Emp1 plus 1-Jun-2013 and 30-Jun-13...If I leave the dates the same but select the next employee "Emp2" and them make the form invisible the mainform opens in edit mode as expected but with the records and dates specified for Emp1.
Bottom line it would appear that although the filter data is specified for the query that feeds the main form it is not requerying prior to opening the form. I have tried having the "frmEmployeeReportRange" launched as a VBA event on each of 'On Open' , 'On Load' and 'On Current' but no matter where I put it the results are the same in that the mainform is not requerying the data prior to opening.

Hello,
When I attempt to open any of my Access databases I am presented only with the form that has been selected as the 'startup' option. Furthermore, it seems to be impossible to switch to 'design' view and my only options on the toolbar are File, Edit, Insert, Records, Windows, Help. As far as I can tell, none of these enable me to select the options required to give me my entire database back.
I am something of an Access novice, so if the above problem seems familiar to anyone i'd be grateful for the solution! The help option within MS Access hasn't been particularly useful.
Many thanks,
David

I have a query that searched thru records based on a person's last name. It runs fine and returns the results I want. However, the view of the results is in record-view. I'd like the results to be in a report format. Is this possible? The macro that calls the query is set to display in report view, but the query always come back showing the records. What am I missing here? Thanks a ton for your time!

I have a form in datasheet view that has a user directory with a list of each person. On each row you can click to open another form that contains the users details using the below VBA:
DoCmd.OpenForm "User Details", , , "[ID] = " & Me.ID
But once you open to that specific record, no other records are available to navigate to.
I want to be able to stay on that detail form that was opened and go to another record.
How do I continue to pull up that specific user in my detail form, but also load the others so I can navigate to them from the detail form without having to go back out to the datasheet form?

I have a form that displays a stock inventory, one of the fields I use is called [ItemCode].
On the Stock_Inventory form I have 10 command buttons that open other forms to display additional product information.
These were previously sub_forms that sat in a tabbed control box within the Stock_Inventory Form but as it now takes a while for the form to load (lots of queries running each time you search for a product) users are getting slightly frustrated.
So, what I decided to do, was move each subform from the tabbed control into a new form and open that form when it is needed by the user.
OK, when I open Stock_Inventory and search for a product [ItemCode = "ABC123"] and then want to see the Sales_History, I have to open my new form, Stock_Inventory_Sales_History, within this form are two sub-forms, each subform has a field called [ItemCode].
However, when Stock_Inventory_Sales_History opens it asks me to input the parameter [ItemCode] twice, I presume this is because the Stock_Inventory_Sales_History does not have a record source and that the subforms need [ItemCode="ABC123"] to run each query and return the data.
I need to pass the [ItemCode] from the Stock_Inventory form to each of the 2 Subforms that are on the Stock_Inventory_Sales_History form automatically.
