Hi,
im after a option group that stores multiple values, the only way, long winded as it will be is to create a table with all the values then have tickboxes for all of them.
Is there a simpler cleaner way?
Hella all,
I'm new to this forum :) so I say hello to all of you :)
I have a little problem..
I have a table wich stores information wich comes from a combobox.
The problem is that it saves the combobox ID instead of the text.
This is the row source of the combobox
SELECT rapporteur.ID, rapporteur.rapporteur FROM rapporteur;
Could somebody tell me how I can store the rapporteur.rapporteur in a other table instead of the rapporteur.ID?
thx a ton in advance
Hi, I'm new here also. I'm afraid I can't help with your question, but I have 2 questions of my own.
1) how do you start a new thread (as you have done?)
2) in my database I have thousands of contacts. How can I add an alphabetical index tab along the right edge such as in Outlook for one-click access to different parts of the database?
Thanks and I hope you can help!
Gary
Ok so in excel I have some numbers that are stored as text. The reason being that they are zip codes and some begin with 0 and excel doesn't want numbers to start with 0....so when I import these into an access field that has an input mask for zip codes...will it convert these correctly since the field is a text with input mask?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a database that we use to track the tablets in our organization, a combination of Apple, Android, and Windows.
We label them with a hostname depending on their branding. Example below.:
APPLE01
APPLE02
APPLE03
ANDROID01
ANDROID02
ANDROID03
WINDOWS01
WINDOWS02
In the database we use the field name HOSTNAME for these entries. When sorting the field, due to it being a text field, we get the traditional sort of
APPLE01
APPLE02
APPLE10
APPLE100
APPLE101
APPLE11
APPLE110
ANDROID01
ANDROID02
ANDROID10
ANDROID100

We would like to have them show up as
APPLE01
APPLE02

APPLE100
APPLE101
APPLE110
ANDROID01

What is the best way to tackle this?
I was wondering if there is a way of only allowing text in a text field - we need to do this for validation purposes when inporting a text file into a database. I have tried input mask but this only checks when entering new data - I have tried to use validation rule like"???????" however this means that there has to be 7 letters in each field and this is not the case. - the field is for town and a couple of the records in this field have numbers at the end which are incorrect that we want the database to reject

I am currently updating our supply stores database in work. When an item becomes unserviceable we need to attach a form to the item before sending it away. i would like the data entered into the 'unserviceable' table within my database to be transposed onto an excel spreadsheet (see attachment) and then automatically printed out with the data in the relevant boxes. Can anyone tell me how this is done please? My knowledge of access is rather limited and I am teaching myself as I go along.
I have a form which is associated with a table. When I put some values in the fields which are connected to the database and try to close the form, it gives me an error that "Can't insert record the primary key might be duplicated"...! and then it closes.
Does the form store a record in the table while closing??
If so is there a way to prevent it??
Please reply..
Does access have WITH subquery, For example creating a variable that stores a whole subquery such as:
Code:
WITH variableTEST (a, b, c, d, e) as
(SELECT a1, a2, a3, max(ab), count(*) as nbids
FROM A x natural join B y
WHERE x.something > y.something
GROUP by a1, a2, a3)
WITH variableTWO (f, g, h, i, j, k, j) as
(SELECT A.bidder, W.a, W.b, W.c, W.d, W.e, A.something
FROM variableTEST W natural join B A
WHERE W.sprice = B.bidprice)
SELECT h FROM variableTWO WHERE now - j <7
Can it do something like this, if not what alternative do they have to do something similar? Using WITH and subquery and variable, and storing variables and then later use it again in another subquery, can it do something like this in access SQL?
Im trying to work with access 97, to import a text file into access. All the books i have looked in and web pages found say, file - get external data - import, then in "files of type" drop down you can select text.
I dont have the option to do this.
I have Uninstalled office 97, reinstalled it. with all the extras.
I have gone into the help and added all the valupack but still nothing.
Thanks
is there an easy way to do a conditional format on a report where the value is 1,2,3,or 4 from an option group. I want the 1=Yes, 2=No, 3=Maybe etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am designing a database for our audit teams to carry out reviews of our claims handlers and have put next to each of the questions on a form an option group of three option buttons, "Yes", "No", "Not Applicable" with the values "1", "-1" and "0" respectively. This value is then stored in a table under the relevant field, intQuestionValue, for Q1, Q2, Q3 etc.
This works well for calculating scores, percentages etc. for all the questions. However the manager of the team has said that there will be times when he wants to report by the number of "No" answers for example, so that he look at trends and build these into training plans etc.
I do have a table, tblScores, which has two columns in it. One for the text element, "Yes", "No", "N/A" and the other has the corresponding numeric value in it.
Because there are numerous questions i cannot seem to create a join in a query for the numeric value to bring back the text value. The only other method that came to mind was to write the text outcome to a table as well at the same time, but I'm not sure how I would do this at the same time as clicking the option button, or would it all save when i (the user) closes the form?
I was checking if it is possible to add a text option after creating Look Up Tables, and I am also getting extra spaces while creating lookup tables where the drop down list goes more than 100 items.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI changed this text box format to General Date but I do not have the date picker icon when I click on the text box. I also noticed that for this text box in the property sheet, it does not even have the date picker option listed. I am trying to do this in a report header.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to count how many plans a retail chain has over its stores.
So
WeekNo | StoreNo | Product |PlanNo
1 | 10001 | Dog | A
1 | 10001 | Cat | B
1 | 20008 | Dog | B
1 | 30005 | Dog | B
Query/report to show
Product | PlanNo A | PlanNo B
Dog | 1 | 2
Cat | 0 | 1
Numbers in Query/report are a count of Stores selling the product
One of the issues is that the data is duplicated over the weeks, I'm thinking to use max on week number so It only looks at the last available data. And how to write the query.
Currently I'm doing this
PlanA: Sum(IIf([PlanNo]="A",1,0)
PlanB: Sum(IIf([PlanNo]="B",1,0)
.
.
.
But it looks at the whole of the table for all the weeks...
I wondered if someone could help.
I am using the Val () Function to convert a text field to number within a query which still gives me a text output.
P.S I do not have permissions to change within table as using Access as a front end to SQL via link Tables.
Hello, I have a Field in a Table called Fund Codes and they are entered as text: 1, 2, 3, 4 all the way to 1000. Now i need to find away to change 1 to 001, 2 to 002, 3 to 003, 10 to 010, but leave 100 as 100 and 222 as 222, so only add 0s to numbers from 1 to 99. Is there a way to do it? I know i can change the text to numbers and use format to do that, but i need to leave it as text. Please help. Many thanks!
View 11 Replies View RelatedHI,
I have a field that contains mainly numbers, but the data type is set to Text because there are a few records where the numbers have a letter suffix.
Eg. Invoice numbers 100, 101, 102, 102A, 103 etc.
These suffixes are a result of poor data entry when the data was stored in Excel.
What I was to be able to do is sort this field and treat all entities as numbers. Currently when I sort it, it shows:
1
10
11
2
20
21
3
...etc
Is this possible, even though the data type is Text?
Is it possible to have text and numbers in one field as access asks you specify the data type of that field?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHello,
I am not sure what cateogory to choose for this question but I would greatly appreciate your help.
I have 5 buttons in my option group:
1. very often
2. often
3. occasionally
4. rarely
5. never
I have to produce a report using description of each button in my report, not numeric value. I heard something about global variable but I am not sure how to do it.
Many thanks,
Debbie
Hopefully this will be something new that someone will be willing to try since I haven't been able to find anything like this in the forum....
We have 7 pieces of equipment (routers/switches/encryptors) that all have large text file configuration data. What we want to do, if possible, is to create an option group and a memo block, so that when we click any one of the pieces of equipment in the option group, the text configuration file will display in the memo block and we will be able to save it as part of the record. Is this even possible or is there a better solution?
This would be the equivalent of simply using a command button to launch notepad with the configuration data.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
I have an option box 1=Yes, 2=Np 3=Unknown. the result is stored in a field in my table. When i run a query I pull up the numbers 1, 2 or 3 but to put in a report I actually want the written answers. How do i convert them back?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run a check that will make the user aware if the request they are adding via the form is likely to be a duplicate. If so I want the option to allow or reject the entry. Alternatively I have seen solutions that just notify on the form is something might be a duplicate, by highlighting a textbox red for example. There will be duplicates across these fields but there are many other options included on the form, as I said this is just an indicataion.
The table is called
"MainAc"
The form is called
"SDC Request Form"
The comparison fields are called:
"First_name" - Text
"Surname" - Text
"Change_Number" - Number
"Date_from" - Date
"Date_to" - Date
Ive been trying the Dcount() function, IIF() function but no joy.I tried to putting the below in the before update event, but it didnt run at all, now Ive put it on the button click acion that duplicates records for me, however it just returns a non duplicate responce regardless.
Dim PreviousRecordID As Long
PreviousRecordID = 0
PreviousRecordID = DLookup("first_name", "MainAc", "first_name<>" & First_Name & _
" AND surname=" & Surname & " AND change_number=" & Change_Number)
[code]...
This was a copy and modify from an example database but I dont entirely understand what each part does.
Ok, this one has me stumped.
I have a several fields on my form that are list boxes that must have text as the properties so I can populate the lookup data with things like" Severe rating = 7 points" and "Moderate rating = 3 points". I have another similar field where the choices are "High probability = 9 points" and "Low probability = 2 points" etc. A third field needs to show the total points (product) of the choices from the first two fields, i.e. 9 points x 2 points = 18 points. Then,
a fourth field needs to display where the answer falls in a grid, i.e. 1-14 points = Low, 15-29 points = medium, 30-49 points = high, etc.
How do I apply the calculations on the field choices if the field properties have to be text instead of number?
Thanks,
