Paradox Table Import: Not Working

Jun 13, 2005

I have been given a paradox .DB file that I can (seemingly) "import" to Access 2002 SP3 using File/Get External Data/Import. (Am not choosing "Link Tables"). It gets imported as Type Table: Linked Paradox. When I then open the table for a datasheet view, the following happens:
(1) datasheet window appears with field headings and normal-appearing data in all records and fields
(2) error msg appears "Reserved error (-5016), there is no message for this error"
(3) When I close the msg box, all field data gets replaced by #Name? I can open the table in design view, but no properties can be edited.

Any way around this?

Import Multiple Tables From Paradox

Mar 21, 2007

hi
i have an application that has to import data from paradox tables and create reports based on those tables. I am using Access 2003 and the paradox database is 4.0 . I know how to import a batch of files from code but my problem is that the paradox database has some tables that are split in different folders according to the month they were recorded (it's an accounting program )
so a table exists with the same name in each month folder and the problem is that they have id's starting from 0 each month so I cannot append them easily
I do not know how many tables that type I will need so I have to keep track of them through a different table so I cannot create individual queries for them.

does anyone have an idea what I could do?

thanks

Import Feature Not Working Properly...

Sep 12, 2005

Hey all, I have a strange problem that I can't seem to find the solution for...

At my work we have a number of computers running W2k with Office 97.
We daily have to import excel spreadsheets into Access.

This is never usually a problem as obviously as soon as you click import the import spreadsheet wizard appears.

But on one particular machine it doesn't.

Basically on this computer Access will import the excel file, but won't bring up the wizard that lets you say what to import, whether the first row contains a header, the data type for each field etc, it just asks you to select what sheet you want, then imports it, no options.

Now the ironic thing is that usually this is not a problem as the file is still imported without any problems, but the other day we had a file that once imported was all messed up, all fields all over the place.

When done again on a different computer there were no problems so I'm assuming that this peculiar way of importing is to blame for messing up the data.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this? I have tried dragging the accwiz.dll over the regsvr32.exe and it says it's registered successfully, and I have checked that it is the correct version number, what am I missing?

It would make more sense if it just didn't import, then you could better understand how to fix it, but it's the fact that it does import, just not in the 'usual' way that bothers me. How can I make it bring up the proper import spreadsheet wizard?

Kind Regards

Need Some Help - Converted Paradox To Access

Jul 13, 2005

I am pretty new to Access, so please bear with me
We have a paradox v 3.1 database that I somehow converted into Access. At least the data was transfered and I can update it via a query.

What I am having a problem understanding is the difference between the main database file (in the object viewer appears as a db, with the the tables underneath. Am I correct to assume that all of the information is centralized into this db file?

I'm also having a problem changing the field lengths. I get a message "table "name" is a linked table with some properties that can't be modified."

I'm assuming this linkage came from paradox, because I didn't do a darn thing to it!! Any ideas on how to "unlink" would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Linda

General :: Large Table Import / Way To Import Tables To Access

Sep 17, 2013

I want to make a database of diseases (need to learn them for school and would like a serchable database on my smart phone for future reference).
Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?

I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.

Exporting To Paradox With A Valid Date Field?

Aug 3, 2006

Hi,

I need to export a table from Access to a Paradox DB file for use with an ancient program that unfortunately we're still running. The problem I have is that the table must be created precisely as stated in the programs manual, which means the fields must not only be named exactly but also the type and size.

I've managed to do this...almost, the only problem I have at the moment is that I can't get Access to export date fields that Paradox will see as a date field, Paradox reads them as a timestamp field. I've tried setting them as a short date, integer or formatted text but Paradox simply won't accept them as a date type.

The whole purpose of this exercise is so Paradox won't even need to be opened if I can export this table correctly, but at the moment the only way to sort it is to open Paradox and change the field types manually.

Does anybody have any clue how I can successfully export a date field from Access that Paradox will see correctly? Ironically there isn't even any data being stored in these date fields, but the program won't run unless they exist and are of type D!

Cheers,

Andy

Table Import Help

May 25, 2005

I have lots of CSV files that are per day and are as follows:

File 1:

Username Time
Bob 2
Joe 6

File 2:
Username Time
Joe 8
Sue 6

Essentially what I want to do is import each file into one table where if the username is not in the database it creates it, if its already in there a new column is created with the date. I dont mind creating multiple tables for each date and merging them.

So after those two files above were imported my table would look like this:

Username Time1 Time2
Bob 2 0
Joe 6 8
Sue 0 6

There are not many individual dates for that to be a problem, but there are over 5k different usernames in each file so I can't eyeball anything lol.

I am fairly new to access, but I am seasoned in MYSQL and Oracle. I've done some light searching on these forums and have not really come accross anything I need.

Thanks!

Macro To Import Table

Dec 9, 2005

I have a macro that imports a table from a network drive. I have hard coded in the path. However, each year file location changes. Is there a way in a Macro to adjust the code based on some other parameter?

Under the "TransferDatabase" action, for the "Database Name", I hard coded:

y:sidewalks2006swk_master.mdb

However, I want the 2006 to automatically come from some other location. Here’s what I tried to no avail (where I wanted the dlookup to return 2006):

y:sidewalks(DLookUp("[year]","[tblYear]","[Item]='year'"))swk_master.mdb

Modules & VBA :: AfterUpdate Not Working - No Value In Table

Oct 21, 2013

I have an afterupdate event that is supposed to send an email when a box is updated. Most of the times the code works fine except for one case.

The code checks the value of a field in subform in another tab of the same form

Code:
'find the MSM date
[Forms]![Project Main]![Marketing Specialist Main]![MSMDate].SetFocus
MSMDate = Nz([Forms]![Project Main]![Marketing Specialist Main]![MSMDate].value, "__-___-__")

This field (MSMDate) keeps its value in a separate table.

The problem comes when there is no value in this other table for the given project. If this is the case, the subform does not even appear on the main form (it is all a grey box) and the Setfocus returns an error.

I tried to comment the setfocus line to see what the NZ function would do in the next line and it also returns an error.

It is almost as if the subform was not "initialized" for that particular record...

How can I account for those cases?

All these files will be exactly the same(Tables, queries, forms, everything). The only thing that will be different will be the data in the inventory table. Thanks for you help!

Need To Import Bulk In Table With Loop

Mar 22, 2005

Hi, I need help with inputting multiple values in a table
I am using below statement in asp file and it works fine, when I input one value of name in form , as it takes that value and just input into the table. If it already exists then it just displays error message that this name value already exist in table as name field has no duplicate checked. I need to input multiple records now instead of just one.
The current statement I am using is

<%
Name = replace(trim(Request("Name")),"'","''")

SQL = "Insert Into table(tableName) Values('" & Name & "')"

objCon.Execute SQL

%>

But now I want to send multiple values from the text box instead of just one value, so I need a loop here. The values in the text box are separated with enter.
Please let me know how do I run this query in loop that it will input one name first and then input the second value and then third so forth. (input multiple records instead of just one).
Can you please give me the SQL statement for ACCESS or asp querry.

thanks

Excel Spreadsheet Will Not Import Into Table

Oct 11, 2006

Hi,

I am failry new to Access, and am trying to import an Excel spreadsheet into a Table. I go all the way through the import wizard, and it gives me an error that it cannont create, and then it goes back to the last screen, and I have no Idea what is wrong.

I have looked under many help's and online tips, and searched this site to no avail. As far as I can tell everything should be acceptable to import. I have unique column header titles, no blank rows, nothing over 255 characters, and it still does not work. Can anyone give me some advice on what is wrong in this spreadsheet causing it not to be imported?

Thanks!
