I am in no way shape or form familiar with access beyond the very basics. I am however the house programmer and some of the employees here like to create access forms (no programming knowledge though). So from time to time I am asked to help out with the more difficult tasks.
The issue I have run into is that we built a form(that has no connection to a table or query) that has a subform on it (that is connected to a table). Basically the subform information is used to help fill out the form which is then printed.
Problem is that when the form is printed all of the records of the subform are also printed. I am struggling with finding a solution.
Is there a way to just have the subform print the current record shown?
I tried having the form grab the current record from the subform to print the info out on the main form but I can't seem to get the two to talk. How do I use subform info on the form? I have tried something like Me.mysubform.control.text or [Forms]![Me]![mysubform].whatever but nothing seems to work.
One work around I am currently trying to implement is to have the subform visibility set to false which allows me to just print the main form. Problem is that I need the info off the subform also. I try to say something like myformlabel.caption = mysubformtextbox.text but nothing seems to work.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
I got a little problem wich i'm trying to solve for several days now. My situation is like this. I got a form called "Frm_File_List" and in there a subform "Frm_List_Sub" as in a datasheet. In here there are several records. Im trying that when u double click on the record that a new form "Frm_View_file" will be opened, but according the record I selected in the subform. So when I doubleclick on ID 7 it opens the form with record matching ID 7.
I tried in vba the following

Hi--I am working on a database which is a modification of the following MS Access 2003 Order Management template: (URL address blocked: See forum rules)=CT101426031033
In my database, I have a subform called sbfOrderDetails, which in its Form Footer has a text box that sums the items in the order and is called OrderDetailsTotal.
I am trying to pass that value to a text box in the main form called OrderSubtotal.
I have three questions:
1) What is the proper syntax to use to get the value of the subform control into the OrderSubtotal control on the main form? I have tried various permutations and continue to get a #Name? error.
2) If you look at the expression in the Order Subtotal control of the Add and Manage Orders form in the original Order Management template, it looks like this:
=[Order Details Subform].Form!OrderDetailsTotal
When I try to replicate that in my database, I cannot--if I add brackets around my subform name and press Enter, Access adds brackets around everything in the expression, i.e. =[sbfOrderDetails].[Form]![OrderDetailsTotal] (which returns a #Name? error). If I edit out the brackets I don't want and then press Enter, it puts the brackets back in. In other words, Access keeps trying to "fix" my expression by either having brackets around each item, or no brackets at all! This is really annoying; is there any way to turn it off??
3) When sbfOrderDetails is set to Single Form view, I can see the Form Footer (and the value in the OrderDetailsTotal text box as well). When it is set to Datasheet view, I cannot. Why?

I have a form containing a subform. Inside the form, i set up a button. Inside the OnClick code of this button, i need to access the information inside the subform.
To access the info inside the form, i know: Me.Fieldname
But inside the subform, i have tried: Me.SubformName.FieldName or SubformName.FieldName And both did not work.
I'm working on a project that has two tables. "Calls" and "Customers". The Customers form has a subform, "Calls Subform" in it. When you click on the (New) Hyperlink a new form opens, "Call Details". I would like to pull information off of the "Customers" Form and insert it into the newly opened "Call Details" form.
Problem #1) Home Phone (named "Phone" and Text223 (named "CID"): are both bound controls so I have to do this in an OpenArgs type process.
Further details:
On "Customers" the following is true: "25" is the "ID" for that customer on the "customers" table "Home Phone" is the home phone number on the "Customers" table
On Call Details the following is true:
Home Phone is Bound to a table "Calls" and needs to pull it's data from Customers Form..Text223 is CID and bound to the table "Calls" and needs to pull it's data from "Customers" form.
I have a main form (Parent) along with a subform(Children). I want to have a button that generates a report with the Parent information as a header and the items in the subform as details. In addition, I want the report to show only the children that were recently added not all of the children.
I know how to use openargs to pass values between forms but im not sure how to go about passing all the values from one subform to another.
To be specific I have an order form (frmCustomerOrders) that has fields like CustomerName, EmployeeName, OrderDate and so forth, the subform (frmCustomerOrdersSubform) contains information on the Products the customer is ordering which usually has multiple records with fields like ProductName, PartNumber, Quantity and ItemNumber. I want to pass the values from the CustomerOrdersSubform form to another subform (TransferSubform) My initial thought was to use something like the openform command through openargs but im not sure if that will work or if there is another method I should use.
I have a form called chartinfo which contains a subform called testgroup. For ever new record in the main chartinfo form I need the testgroup subform to display all records from the testgroup table. see attachment it is access 02
I would like to transmit several parameters from my main form to the subform when I open it.
Parameters could be used in the subform by onload event, for eample, to define form caption, hide or show buttons, enable or disable edit boxes, give them a color, ... It could also allow to use the same form in different application contexts, which would reduce so the development time.
More than one technique might be possible. I used the following one : - I put the parameter value I want to pass into myParameter - when click on the button to open the subform : DoCmd.OpenForm myDocument, acNormal, , , , , myParameter - when loading the subform, retreive the parameter value in Me.OpenArgs and using it (eg disable a button)
It works fine. But I can pass only a single value with this technique and it's not enough. I tried to give an array as myParameter and fill it with my parameters values, but Access refuses an array to be in the DoCmd statement for OpenArgs option.
Any idea about passing several parameters to the subform ? Or may be an alternative to the DoCmd technique ?
I will have a ListBox on the form with “Multi Select” set to either simple or extended. I have a collection of documents which must be recorded in a database. Some documents may have only one author, but could have more. Same with the recipient or copied-to.
Ideally it would be nice to have the ListBox on the left, selected one or more from the list and then pass them to one of the three fields by a command button, sort of like:
I would like to have all of the names selected from the ListBox as a string, but fully understand the problems associated with normalization. Other posts have suggested subforms. So, the question is how to select from the ListBox and then pass the possible multiple selections to discrete fields on a subform that would display, say three fields and which would get away from the normalization issues:
The secondary issue will be that there will be subsequent names which are not found until actually in the process of document review which will create a need to update the ListBox, which I know is not akin to a ComboBox NotInList function.

I have a CRM database which also handles billing for my company. I have an Order Form which displays info from the Orders table, and also various subforms from related tables (Order Details, Payments, Collection Notes). The Payments table has a One to One relationship to the Orders table and the two are linked by the Key Field Order ID.
Here is the problem, if I open the Order Form and navigate to any record the correct payment information is displayed. However if I use a Filter on the Order table the Payment information disappears and only a blank payment form displays - making it appear that a payment has not been made. If I remove the filter the payment information is still gone until I close the form and reopen it. Also, this does NOT happen to my other subforms (ie Order Details) - note that the other subforms are for tables with a One to Many relationship.I have tried basing the subform on the actual table Payments and also on a query of the payments table.
:confused: I have created a frame which controls two seperate combo boxes for searching based on either serial or name. What I'd like to do is have the user combo box [after update] to open a sub form with all of that specific users particular assetts. Only by that user.

I have a database which has been in production for quite a few years, it even made the swap from .mdb and .accdb without losing any of the functionality. Well I just had to export from access to new access to start a new file for one of our projects and now one of the subforms is not adding information into the table. The way the subform functions is it feeds information to the table Lease Tracts, at the same time it has another table Xrf Property Tracts Leases (I didn't pick the name and it drives me nuts too!)
When a user starts to add information into the subform the table lease tracts generates an auto number "tracref" which it adds onto the line where the user is inputting the rest of their information. The relationship is set as all alike between xrf and lease tracts to input in both tables, well the xrf lease num1 is being filled in by the master/child setting but the lease num1 on the lease tract is the only field not autofilling.
I need help on this, from what the best concept is, to what I need to look into using:
I store Quote data from phone calls into tblQuotes. There is a seperate table that holds much of the same information except that it is for actual orders called tblOrders.
As far as function goes, I have each working much the way I need it to except for one thing... If a sales person is on the phone with a customer with a quote already in the system, right now they re-enter the data into the Order table. Most times, the order is what was quoted, but maybe with a few small changes (so I will wnt to keep a historical record of the quote). How could I copy the contents of the quote recordset into the recordset for an order, where all the sales rep does from there is edit the quote to the actual order?
Would I use VBA or an update query that is executed via VAB? Honestly, I am unsure how to do this at all, I hope someone has seen this before and has a good suggestion...
I would like passing values from first form until third form.
In the first form I have a list box after selecting items (For each selected item in first form I have 4 values) and pressing button (or right click of mouse) the second form will be open, then in the second form I have 2 option (inserting, deleting), when I select inserting or deleting in the second form, third form will be open, in the third form there is a "OK" button, when I press that, passed values from first form will be used for inserting or deleting records to the table.
I'm not sure if this should go in here or in VB Programming, because it's to do with an Access Database but it's VBA code. But I understand that VBA and VB are different in the way they work.

Right, basically, I am writing an Access database for my company's ordering system.
I have a form called "Enquiry" which has many tabs, one of these is the "client" tab in in here are many fields:
Firstname Surname Company Addressline1 Addressline2 Town County Postcode Phones Fax AltMobile Email ContactType
Now, there is an option to enter a new client or search the database for an existing client and it is basically the "new client" which I'm having issue with at the moment.
Basically, clicking the button "New Client" opens another form called "Client". Here, the user enters the data into fields which are the same as above (but on this contact form).
When done, they click a button called "Save and Close" which then asks the user if they want to paste their entered data into the original main "Enquiry" form.
It's this last bit, the transferring of this data I can't get my head around and would be incredibly greatful for help with.

But It's not working. It's giving an error saying "Compile Error: Variable not defined" and it highlights the word which I've mad RED in the code above. Now, I tried changing the exclamation for a fullstop, and I also tried writing "Form.Enquiry.FIRSTNAME" (and also with exclamation marks). None have given a working result.
I'll try and get some print screens too for more visibleness (new made-up word there) so you can see what I mean.
Have one form that contains values AssociatedProject and AssociatedRelease that need to be passed onto another form that opens with a new record. Have tried different variations based on what I read here and couldn't get them to work.

i have two forms. one is the main form and there i put button that opened another form. when i open the second form i want to link the ID number from the main form to the second form so i wont have to insert the number each time i am opening it.
I have a continuous form that is bound to a SQL Server view.
For each record in my form I have a button, which when pressed opens up a second form. The second form is bound to a stored procedure that takes a parameter. The parameter value that I want to pass to this second form is the value of one of the fields in the first form.

Hi, i'm quite new to Access and I have a problem passing data from one form onto another.
I have a form that I use for quotations based on the table T Quotations on it I have: QuotationID as my primary RefCust referring to which customer Date and a few other fields
Now i'd like to add a button that when clicked will open my order form. In other words when a quote is confirmed I'd like to click on the quotation form to confirm it and create an order on the order form. Order form will open with a orderID autogenerated BUT will return the same RefCust as on the Quotation form, the same date and will give the quotationID as Refquote onto the new form.
Ex: on form quotation I have Cust: abc company QuotationID: 123 Date: Feb 25 2007 Quote: $300
when i click on confirm
the Order form will open with: OrderID: 002 (autogenerated) RefQuoteID: 123 Date: Feb 25 2007 (even though today might be April 10) RefQuote: $300
