Passing Variables To Queries

Apr 11, 2006

Hi, I am writing a script which will retrieve all of the tracks relating to whichever cd the user has chosen. The script is being written in asp and the line which sends the variable to access looks a bit like this:

sqlQuery3 = "up_getAlbumTrackInfo " & productID
Set rs3 = dbConn.Execute(sqlQuery3)

If possible could you tell me how to retrieve this value from access as I have become lost.

At present the SQL code in the query looks like this

SELECT tblTracks.trackName, tblTracks.TrackNumber FROM tblTracks
WHERE tblTracks.productID = (** variable would go here **)

Many Thanks

Passing Public Variables

Nov 20, 2007

I'm into one of the subforms that will be using the public variable from the main form and am not having success passing the data from the main form over. on the subform, i created a textbox (txt_currentyear) w/ this in the control source field: =[WrkYear] & " Golf Outing"

WrkYear was the defined in a module as:
**********
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit

Public WrkYear As String
**********

I have created a listbox w/ a few years in it (current_year_listbox). this has =[WrkYear]=Me.Current_Year_listbox.Value in the after update field. i loaded the main form, selected the year, went into the subform to see if it passed the data along w/ no luck.

do i need to call or reference that module in every form or report before i can use the data from it? right now, i just get an empty field on the subform.

Modules & VBA :: Passing Variables To A Sub Routine

Code:
Sub EmailData(Datafile As String, To_mail As String, CC_mail As String, Subject_mail As String)
'code to use variables passed in

Passing Variables Between Forms In Shared Mode

Sep 28, 2006

Before I go any further w/this current application, I want to make sure this will work.

I have an access database w/a few forms that will sit on a shared drive on a network. Each user will also have their own username and password because each user will have a certain level of access to what they are allowed to see. The problem I am facing is that if I put the users ID into the global variables module, and two users log on at the same time, then access seems to somehow use both of the IDs when running queries. This makes sense that all uses can see it, since it's Global... but I need a way for simultaneous users to have a persistant unique id so I can query data that's only meant for them. I found this example of code that might remedy the situation by passing variables between the forms.

Call the code below in frmOne to pass the variable.

DoCmd.OpenForm "frmTwo", acNormal, , , , acWindowNormal, "Count=2"

Call the code below in frmTwo to get the variable.

Dim i as Integer
i = CInt(GetTagFromArg(Me.OpenArgs, "Count" ))

Will I end up w/the same result? Will all users be able to see this variable as well?

Modules & VBA :: Passing Variables And Retrieving Results?

Jul 9, 2014

I wrote this module

Option Compare Database

Option Explicit

Public Function OdometerInput(varodometer As Variant) As Long
Dim varKilometres As Variant
varKilometres = varodometer * 1.609344
OdometerInput = CLng(varKilometres)
End Function

It works fine in the immediate window (although I haven't just fathomed what to do with null values and such) But my question which I am sure will be 'easy when you know' is how do I pass the variable to it from a text box on a form and retrieve the data in another text box on a form.

Modules & VBA :: Calling A Function And Passing Variables

May 29, 2015

I have never tried passing variables while calling a function so I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I'll give a simplified example of what I'm trying to do. The second variable vRank is reporting properly but the first one vID gets "stuck" on whatever the first item in the listbox is.

Code:
Dim vrt As Variant
Dim upSQL As String
For vrt = 0 To Me.List1.ListCount - 1
If Me.List1.Selected(vrt) = True Then
Call ChangeUp(Me.List1.Column(0, vrt), Me.List1.Column(1, vrt))

Modules & VBA :: Passing Variables To More Than One Field As Query Criteria?

Feb 25, 2014

My problem is as follows, i have created a report that calculates the total volume of FSC Materials. The user picks two dates from Calender controls that the report will range from. However the needs have now changed and i am required to make the report filter further based on user input, the problem i'm facing is that i cannot figure out a way to pass values from different variables to the report separate from another here is the code i would usually use to pass data to a query/report:

Code:
Private Sub MonthlyFSC_Click()
Msg = MsgBox("Select the Start and Finish Dates you wish to Query.", , "Start / Finish")
Start = adhDoCalendar()
Finish = adhDoCalendar()

[Code] ....

However i am now trying to do this, but it gives me an error as it is trying to pass the values to one field:

Code:
Msg = MsgBox("Select the Start and Finish Dates you wish to Query.", , "Start / Finish")
Start = adhDoCalendar()
Finish = adhDoCalendar()
sql1 = "[ORDER DATE]<#" & Format(Finish, "MM/DD/YY") & "#"
sql2 = "[ORDER DATE]>#" & Format(Start, "MM/DD/YY") & "#"

[code]....

It is performing incorrectly within the case select and passing the wrong criteria, as it will only display results that meet the default values' criteria. However the date criteria is not be passed either.

Modules & VBA :: Passing Variables To Make Table Query

Sep 29, 2014

Access 2010 vba - I'm trying to pass a start date and end date to a date field in a make table query, and use the 'between' operator on that date field.

So I have a criteria on the date field like this "Between [dtStart] and [dtEnd]" and if I run the query manually it asks for 2 values and then works fine.

Here's the code I'm trying to run:-

Set qdef = db.QueryDefs("qryTest")
qdef.Parameters("dtStart") = StartDate1
qdef.Parameters("dtEnd") = EndDate1
Set rs1 = qdef.OpenRecordset(dbOpenDynaset, dbSeeChanges)

and I get the error "3219 Invalid Operation" on the last line.

Queries :: Finding Difference Between Variables

Nov 8, 2013

What I am trying to do is the following

I have three columns

Name, Date, Number

What I need to do is find the difference in the number column where the Name is the same but the date is not ex:

Bob 2013-12-12 123
Bob 2013-12-15 456
Jane 2013-12-14 789
Jane 2013-12-25 987

So what I need to do is to get a result that is independent of date i.e.

Bob (456-123)
Jane (987 - 789)

Queries :: DLookup And Variables - Query Returning Same Value For All Rows

Aug 8, 2013

I am having a problem with a Dlookup query. I want to achieve the following - I have 2 different tables

Demography Table - consisting of 2 fields, City and Region

For example
City Region
NYC NAM

The other Table totalflow consists of several field, one of the is flow from.

For example
Flow from
NYC
WAS
SEA

I want to do the following. Lookup the Flow from filed in table totalflow, and compare it to City in demography Table. If City = Flow from, return the value in Region. All are text fields.

I have tried following Query, but it only returns the same value for all rows. (from SQL view)

SELECT DLookUp("[Region]","Demography Table","[City] = '" &[Flow from]& "'") AS test
FROM [Demography Table], flowsize;

Passing Parameters From Form To Queries

Mar 23, 2006

Good Afternoon,

I am trying to create a form where a user will enter in a value into a text field. Afterwards, when the user clicks "Enter", a query will run and will LOOK FOR THE VALUE THAT WAS ENTERED INTO THE TEXT FIELD. i.e.
User enters their address into the field and clicks the enter button.
Afterwards, a query will run like
select * from customers where address = @address <== the value the user entered into the text field. This is where the mystery lies. How do you pass values?????

Thanks,

Queries :: Passing Parameter To Select Query?

Jun 5, 2013

I have form with a button on it that launches a parameter-based Select query (which served as the source for a report). I didn't have any validation measure in place, so if the User supplied a bogus value, a blank report was generated. While not technically an error, it would seem more polished to generate a warning message if the User supplies a bad query value and prompt them to re-enter.

Having read other posts along these lines, I've added an unbound text box to the form which the User fills in first before clicking the button. When the button is clicked, it executes code that uses the DCount function to make sure the text box value is in the source table, and if it is then it runs the parameter-based Select query. My question is how to pass the value in the text box to the query as a parameter. Below is a sanitized version of the code that I've generated so far.

Private Sub SingleItemRptB_Click()
If DCount("[FieldName]", "[Table]", "[FieldName]=[TextBoxValue]") = 0 Then
MsgBox "Item not in database. Please check value and re-enter."
Else
DoCmd.OpenQuery "SingleItemQ", acViewNormal, acReadOnly
End If
End Sub

Queries :: Passing (Is Not Null) As A Parameter In A Query?

Jun 16, 2015

I have a form which users can toggle whether they want to only see entries that has data in a certain field. Previously I have set up a separate query with a hardcoded 'Is Not Null' in the criteria, and set the form to call the different queries based on the status of a toggle button. This time there is 22 queries that need to be modified so I'm hoping there's a better way.

I have a hidden textbox on my form that has value "Is Not Null" or Null based on the position of the toggle button.

In my query for the field criteria I have [Forms]![MainForm].[txtCriteria] where txtCriteria is the textbox previously mentioned.

When I run the query no data is shown.

Queries :: Passing Textbox Value Into Sql Query Parameter

Apr 23, 2014

I'm having a very simple issue (I think) trying to pass a textbox value as parameter in a sql query.I have a multiline textbox and I use it to find several values in the database, so in this textbox all the values are pasted each per line and I have a small code to convert it to single line comma separated values.This is an example:The user enter the data:

[Text0]
A1C556CC3C-TNNN
C010070H13

The code convert this data to a single comma separated string and runs the query: ex: "A1C556CC3C-TNNN","C010070H13"

Code:
test = """" & Replace([Forms]![Search]![Text0], Chr(13) & Chr(10), """,""") & """"
[Forms]![Search]![Text0].Value = test
DoCmd.OpenQuery "FindPartNo", acViewNormal, acReadOnly

In the SQL code I use the IN operator to find the exact value for each record:

FindPartNo sql query:

Code:
SELECT Classifications.BU, Classifications.WisperPlantID, Classifications.PartNumber, Classifications.PartDesc, Classifications.US_CL_Code, Classifications.MX_CL_Code, Classifications.TARIC_CL_Code, Classifications.COEProject, Classifications.Supplier, Classifications.BrokerRequest, Classifications.CreatedBy
FROM Classifications
WHERE Classifications.PartNumber In ([Forms]![Search]![Text0]);

The problem here is, the query doesn't return results but if I modifiy the query and I put:

Code:
WHERE Classifications.PartNumber In ("A1C556CC3C-TNNN","C010070H13");

... the query returns the correct results.I'm passing the value incorrect into the sql code?

Queries :: Passing Column Name Parameter To Query

Aug 29, 2013

SUMMARY:
In Access 2007, can I pass a Column Name as a parameter from a Combo Box in a form?

DETAILS:
I would like to use a String value from a Combo Box as a parameter in a Inner Join query:
...
WHERE (((AAA.HSC) Like Forms!My_Form!My_TextBox)
AND((CCC.Forms!My_Form!My_ComboBox)="X"))

Where "CCC is a Table from my Join Query

I'm able to run the code above without generating any errors. However, instead of the query accepting the value from the Combo Box, it opens a pop up asking for the value of "CCC.Forms!My_Form!My_ComboBox", not once, but twice! After it finally runs, the result set is empty when it should not be. I also find it strange that it is asking for the combo box value with the Table name appended to the front.

Queries :: Passing Results From A Form Into Query Errors

Nov 14, 2013

I am working on a database that contains patient demographic information. I have a form that prompts the user to enter either the medical record number or part of the patient name. Once you click search it'll then display a 2nd form with a list box outputting the results. Then from there the user can click on one of the entries in the listbox and it'll display the full demographic information on a 3rd form.

Now my problem is on the search part, it completely ignores if I have a medical record number entered. It continues to search by name only.

In my query for med rec # I have

[Forms]![frmSearch]![txtHistn]

where txtHistn is the text box field passing into the query. And for patient name column in the query under OR I have the following:

Like "*" & [forms]![frmSearch]![txtPname] & "*"

So I am confused why it ignores the medical record number entirely.

I have a test database attached. This is just a sample with dummy data entered and not designed pretty. Through this up for another issue I had yesterday that has been resolved but now discovered this query one. The frmSearch is how it begins. If you search by Smith it'll bring up the two Smiths I have entered. If I leave the field blank and enter 1 for the medical record number it treats it as null and displays everything. How can I fix this?

And while on the topic of query, the true database I am working with resides on an Power I series (formerly AS400s) and only linking to their tables. The data is entered in all Caps in the tables. How can I force whatever the user enters into the search screen that it will automatically uppercase the letters before performing the search? Without having the user to remember to enter with their cap locks on.

Queries :: Passing Filtered Subform To Query To Generate Multi-page Reports?

May 24, 2013

I have a filtered form with a sub form displaying only non-printed invoices.

All i want to do is print only the invoices visible in the sub-form.

I've setup the report to link to a query and the report is all setup, i just can't get the query to function how i want it to!

I've got this SQL code for the Query.

Code:
SELECT tblOrderForm.OrderNo, *
FROM tblOrderForm INNER JOIN tblOrderDetail ON tblOrderForm.OrderNo = tblOrderDetail.OrderNo
WHERE (((tblOrderForm.OrderNo)=[Forms]![Export Orders]![ExportSub].[form].[OrderNo]));

However this only shows the field with focus. I would like it to display ALL data in the subform.

Is It Possible To Use Variables In Sql?

May 13, 2007

Hi there, is it at all possible to use variables in sql? Please consider the following snippet:

... (WHERE [DateDue] < Date())...

The idea is to return a recordset where the DateDue is prior to the current date. But sometimes I need the opposite, ie a recordset where DateDue is in the future: ... (WHERE [DateDue] > Date())...

Right now I have 2 long queries which are exactly the same, except for the operator < for the first case above and the operator > for the second.
I of course did not want to repeat the queries so I tried:

Dim op As String
op = Me.txtOp 'txtOp is invisible and gets its value (either "<" or ">" ) thru
'a button click
... (WHERE [DateDue] & op & Date())...

I also tried:

... (WHERE [DateDue] & forms!frmInvoices!txtOp & Date())...

But to my "surprise" both failed.

Can it work? what should I correct or do differently here? I might need this kind of trick for other routines too, so I'd like to avoid copying the same query, just for the operator change.
I hope one of you seasoned sqlers can tell me more about it, I appreciate.

Regards,
Jaime
