Please Help!! "Error Accessing File. Network Connection May Have Been Lost"
Oct 12, 2007
Hi all,
I have been developing Access 2K applications. Lately, every time I click a command button on a form or even open the code window for a form, I got this repetitive error message. I even create BLANK Access db and re-import all objects or create brand new form and copy the control designs/code from the error one to the new one. The new db or the new form still have the same ERROR, which is as follow :
"The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost.
*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Event Procedure].
*There may have been an error evaluation the function, event, or macro."
Please help! Thanks so much for your suggestions/
Have a great weekend,
I think the damage to my database is not recoverable, but i'm still hoping. My computer crashed when I was working on my dtabase and after restart the db is not working anymore :( If I try to do something, anything (!!!) all I got is an error message: "Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost." But the db is on my computer, I don't use it over the network. What can I do to make it working again? Thanx!
I am making a database and after a small amount of progress I save it and then copy and save with same name but with an extension V1, V2 etc. so that I can keep a working one as backup. Throughout this process I have come across 'Error accessing Network' connection may be lost.....! I have to go back to my previously saved version and redo the changes I was making. This time I didnt save until I was about to make my usual backup and I had quite a few changes. How can I stop this happening and make my last DB work again.
I have a picture stored on a network file share that populates each time a particular form is opened. Every so often we lose our connection (which is a different issue altogether). Right now the error I get after much grinding away, is "Bad file name or number"
Is there a quicker way to check for the connection before it spends 45 seconds trying to find the whole path?
Code: Dim vFolderPath As String, dirFile As String, strFile As String vFolderPath = Nz(DLookup("FolderName", "tblCodes-FolderControl", "FolderKey = '" & "Profile" & "'")) dirFile = vFolderPath & Dir(vFolderPath & ctrl_people_id & " *", vbDirectory) strFile = dirFile & "profile_pic.*" 'Debug.Print dirFile On Error Resume Next If Dir(strFile) <> vbNullString Then Me.[ctrl_ImageFrame].Picture = dirFile & "" & Dir(strFile) Else Me!ctrl_ImageFrame.Picture = "X:~stuffprofile_icon.png" End If
I was working with one access application 2 months ago and I stoped. Now, I opened this access file and try to continue with it. But I have problem! On every button, when I click on this button (it could be button for cllosing form or any other) there is one message box with followed text: "Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost." I have no ideao what is going on! Even, when I create new form, put the button on it, when I click on this button, the same message appears. Can someone help me? What is wrong with with my Access or with my Windows. P.S. I have Pentium IV, 512 MB Ram, Windows XP, and MS Access 2000. Please, do send me an e-mail on dculic71@hotmail.com or contact me on ICQ (101967172)
these are two issues that are making some problems to me.in a few words i will make a description.there is a html that contains data.this data is updateable.i have made a link to my excel.i need to add somethings before they come to access.i have made a link in an access getting all data in it.i have made a update query to store data in another table so i will not lose previous data.all excel and access work opened.so at start it works fine.after 1-2 hours or maybe more a alert display and eather there is lost connection or it says that another user is using the data or about permissions.i then have to restart my pc so it can work again.all is working on windows xpsp2 and office 2003. please send reply if anyone knows something.thank you.
I've got a back end database on one of my computers and i'm trying to get the link tables to work over a network from another computer. Ive set the link tables up but it wont let me edit any data because it is read only. Its not read only when i run the front end from the computer that stores the back end. How do i enable the front end to edit the data over the network?
also, it is a multi-user system so i want multiple front end parts accessing the one back end but whenever i try and access the data from one system when another is already open it says the file is in use and i can't do anything!
I'm really stuck at the moment and i really need some help please!
Glad I found this forum. First question as user :)
I have a database I am creating with a number of subforms. A few of the subforms I want to be able to quere data from a ODBC connection. When I use the combobox to select a system, the subforms with ODBC connections are not updated. I will not be updating any of the data on the ODBC.
Should I just create a macro that does a delete quere and then make-table quere, or is there a better way?
I have a Access FE linked to a Access BE on a computer. Whenever the user of that computer shuts off, the Access FE handles this in worst way possible: It spews a zillion dialog warning of 'disk or network not found' before my error handler even takes over.
Has anybody come up with a way to catch such situation?
I have a small access database that my users keep open all day long. Access 2000.
I have one primary version of the DB on the network. No one uses it. I have another file on the network that has linked tables to the primary db. I copy a version of this DB to each workstation.
So each user has a full blown DB on their desktop with linked tables back to the main DB. Is this a good set up or are there any issues doing this? What is the best set up for multiple users across the network? Thanks.
And yes I now that's the title of a Knowledge base article, I stole it because it put into words what I can only say in expletives right now.
Basically, well it's all a bit odd. I got users on the network who, until yesterday, could access some networked databases. Other files from the same source are ok, just Access files. Today the moment they click (and I mean a single-click) on the icon to open the database...explorer hangs. You can't open the database from within MS Access either, that hangs too. But you CAN open them up and use them if you can get them copied locally. Oh yeah, some people (in the same room, on the same VLAN) can access the database, but can't perform any tasks within it. Databases are a mix of 97 and 2000. And to make matters worse, it's happening on another server.
I know you're gonna shout virus, but that looks to be a non-starter since I know of no such virus which would affect ONLY Access files and do it on a single click, and secondly The systems check out fine with both Sophos (and our good luck charm AVG) run against them.
Holy Moley! Has anyone ever come accross such a palarva?
I have MDB database linked to SQL SERVER through VPN connection.I created links to the sql server Links are dsnless..Everything works fine but when I lost VPN connection or sql connection has been broken I can't refresh links to the tables.I receive message 3146 sql connection failed..I must close database and start again...
I tried different methods like ado, dao, and vba docmd.transferdatabase,aclink... but no success, table cant be relinked.
Only way I can relink is to change ip adress in conn.string
E.g. 192.124.0.2 (1st ip- router server ip) and after connection failed i can use 192.124.0.32 (2nd ip - server local ip) and that's it if i lost connection for the 3rd time... i must restart application.
It seems that access database keep the previous connection..how to reset or drop database connection to the sql server and refresh links to the tables with vba code without closing access database...
We have an old Access 97 database with a workgroup file. The problem was that the machine was upgraded and the software was changed to XP. They support guys moved all files to the new PC except the the workgroup file. We can't fine a backup of the w/g file.
I am unable to upgrade the database to access 2002 because of the permissions.
What is the easiest way to get past this stumble block.
Hi there, we currently have a database that users write to through an excel form. Each time a user sumbits a record to the database we open a connection up with the below code, insert the record and then close it. This creates a ldb file for 1-3 seconds depending on how long it takes.
' OPEN DATABASE CONNECTION Set dbConn = New ADODB.Connection dbConn.CursorLocation = adUseClient dbConn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" dbConn.Open sConn
' INSERT RECORD THROUGH EXECUTE COMMAND dbConn.Execute("INSERT INTO.... VALUES....")
' CLOSE CONNECTION dbConn.Close
Is it possible to open the connection up without an ldb file being created so more than 1 user can insert a record into the database at the same time?
Hi, I have created a File DSN using my ODBC under Admin Tools and placed it on the network and have linked my Access 2003 tables to point at this.
I have asked a non-domain user to log into this database and open a table but when they do, it defaults to a Domain account until you untick trusted Source. You then have to enter the username and password for the ODBC connection. I thought the whole point of a File DSN was to eradicate the process of logging in. Can anyone Help?? Thanks
This is what the ODBC looks like through text editing software.
[ODBC] DRIVER=SQL Server UID=MyUserAccountName LANGUAGE=us_english DATABASE=MyDatabaseName WSID=MyWorkstationName APP=Microsoft Data Access Components SERVER=MyServerName Description=MyDescription
I have a button that adds pictures/files to a network location. So people from all over the company can do this and all pictures/files are stored in one location.
I also have a delete button, but a waning pops up and the file remains on the network.
PHP Code:
Run-time error '424': object requiredÂ
Code: My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile (Path)
where Path is a string, files location on network.
Hi can anyone help me, im struggling to get my database connected to my site, it is connected to dreamweaver through ODBC but will not open, the problem i believe is in the lines of cole in bold. Any help would be much appreciated.
<LI>Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x814 Thread 0xa7c DBC 0x1191024 Jet'. /Project_Wortons/Registration.asp, line 16 Thanks
I have 2 files with linking tables. Both are posted on the same network drive for the office to access. However some users have their drive link to drive E: and some to G:, etc. How do I get the file to automatically find what drive the user has and update the correct link in Linked Table Manager?
I am running a small access database over a wireless network which all worked fine (still does on 1 wired/3 wireless) with not too many problems total of 6 machines (5 wireless/1 wired). I have just replaced two machine as they were getting a bit old 3years. But these two new machines do not seem to have full rights to the access database, in that I can open the database and view records but when you add data you get a Disk Error message. I can open and share word documents etc but not the database – if I reverse this set-up I get the same problem the wired computer can open and save word documents but again not the database - what am I missing!!!
SET-UP = All machines have Windows XP Pro and Office 2003 with all windows/office updates done, all connected to the same workgroup etc. Two new machines are Dell with Dell Wireless adapter. No server just workgroup and database in a shared folder on one computer which is hard wired to the Netgear wireless router. I have not run any network wizards and I don’t think I need to, just sharing the folder should be enough? Windows is managing the dell wireless adapters, file and print sharing is enabled, other computers can print to this computer, but I just can’t get the database to share correctly – I have also checked “References” and all looks fine.
I have created the time booking application in access. (Application will alow autherised user to enter daily work done) My Idea was to put this file on the server and ask each employee to log in and enter information. But whenever I try to run application from other than my pc(On which file is created) it flashes error and can't run some of the form. It works absolutely fine when run from my pc. Why this hapens? What is the solution for this? Can access application is sharebale over network?
