I have a form designed to execute a query with a prompt for a particular record. When the record being searched for is not there the form become blank with nothing on it. I would like to return a message that indicates that the record was not found and give he user an option of reexecuting the query of exiting the form.

I'm creating a simplified timecard entry form, and everything works perfect except one thing. When I start a new record and go to the subform and choose the day (monday - friday) it says "This property is read-only and cannot be set" but then it goes ahead and accepts the entry.
A little background, I am making the times as simplified entry (100 for 1pm, 800 for 8am, 500 for 5pm) no colons will be entered. Our hours of operation are roughly 7am until 630pm, with the occassional clock in before 6am and clock out up until 8pm or so. I have this error checking in place, it works ok, I add 1200 to the time if it is pm. Now if they are making a straight time adjustment, they enter it in as well.... for instance 8 for 8hrs holiday pay or paid time off. All this stuff works, that's not the problem.
I am thinking, maybe it might have something to do with having 4 or 5 fields set as the combined primary key on the table that holds the time/adjustment data. The reason I did the combined primary key is so they could enter in the same name, the same start date, even the same day, but the adjustment/time value has to be unique when it is compared with the start date, name, day, adjustment/time value. This table is the subform.
The weird thing is, that after the error, it lets the value stand and does not show the error again, as long as you are on this recordset. If I go back into that record and start a new entry below the others, I get the error again. While the error has no detrimental effects on the db, it is annoying.... and it still shows if I run the form off a macro with setwarnings to false.
I am including the database for review for those of you brave enough to try to understand my logic I'm sure it's something simple. I don't see anything in the properties for the form to turn off error messages like you can in data access pages, or maybe I just overlooked it. I have left one recordset in to show the functionality, it all works according to plan. This is just a rudementary database, I will fine tune it after I get past this hurdle.
Edit: I have Calendar control 11.0 for the start date, but this isn't the problem as it still did it when I had the actual field showing. That, and if you see the disparity between hours and minutes and paid time, it's because if they worked so many hours, 1/2 hour is automatically subtracted. Which is why there is a lunch adjustment field.... if they didn't take a lunch or if they took too long of a lunch.
I tried to get help elsewhere with this but it didn't quite work out, so I thought I'd pick a few other brains. So here's the problem from the beginning.
I made a table with three fields:
Field Name----Data Type
Category------Text
Item----------Text
Cost----------Number
I set up a form with two combo boxes and two text boxes. I want to pick an Item from the combo box, and have the Cost appear in the corresponding text box. I set up the combo box to show each field when I click on the arrow.
I was given the following code to put in the After Update section under the Event tab for the combo box:

That works. I pick an item from the combo box, and its value appears in the text box next to it. Ultimately, I want to edit the value in the text box and have it update the table. I was given the following code for the text box:

I was given a different line of code in the event that I'm "trying to pass text":

When I use that, the error is the same except it says:
Too few parameters. Expected 1.
Does anyone know the correct code?
I have designed a form to act as a menu to open other forms. I created the form and placed command button on the form. Using the Access Wizard, the following VBA was created by Access to open the next form:

I have done this several times in the past with success. However, this time, I get the following error message when I click on the command button to open the second form.
The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: A problem occured while GCM (name of dB) was communicating with the OLE server or Active X Control.
*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [EVENT PROCEDURE].
*There may have been an error evaluating the function, event or macro.
I tested other forms that were designed to open secondary forms and they continue to act correctly. Is there an easy fix to this issue. There are 16 command buttons and all get this message. Do I have to delete the form and recreate it. A nusiance, but not difficult.

I'm trying to figure out how to make sure all text boxes are filled out. I have already created a Input Mask and selected Required in the "Customer" Table. There is also a Username text box I would like to have validated that is is not already being used and two password text boxes I would like to have validate against one another to ensure it was created correctly. Hello all,
I have 5 check boxes on a form and one of them must be checked in order to get the correct result.
If the user does not check any of the the five checkboxes he gets a msgbox telling him that he must checks one of the checkboxes.
What i want to ask is if is possible to prevent the form from updating? Because the user gets the error message but after that the form is being updated even though he hasn't check any of the fields.

I have created a profiling form for my school. Each boy can access his form using his admission number ( Adno) which is the primary key. On the form are lots of sub forms - for things like favourite authors, clubs, teams played in etc - but these don't have a primary key ( as they are automatically linked to the Adno via the main form ). Unfortunately when several boys are filling in their own forms at the same time I keep getting error messages, one says that the data can't be updated and another says that there is a primary key problem.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a form with a subform in it. On the main form, I have a combo box with a list of program numbers to choose from. Once one is selected, the subform displays all the unpaid invoices under that program number. This part works fine. The problem occurs when I try to close the form, switch to design view, or scroll the subform to the right. Basically, the error message says that the record can't be saved because it would create a duplicate value in the index/primary key. However, this form is used to display information only. I have disabled the edit, delete and addition abilities, so I can't figure out why it thinks I am trying to change or add a new record. Any help would be appreciated.
I figured it might make things easier if I included a copy of the database, so here it is.
The form is called SETR, and the subform is AllInfo subform.

Am having a bit of a problem here. :(
i have a form which contains three subforms. the subforms are based on queries which get their parameter value from an option group. all this was working fine until i had the bright idea of displaying a msgbox when no records are found in the subforms.
i had entered the following code that i had found on one of the posts in this forum:

the trouble is that if the user makes a selection in the option group whereby there are no records in two or more subforms, it throws up two different msgboxes stating the same.
I want the form to be such that everytime the subforms are requeried, there shud be only one msgbox stating tht no records were found for the relevant subforms. (this msgbox doesnt appear when there are records). for eg the msgbox shud say that "no records found for subfrm1 and sbfrm2 etc". if subfrm 1 and two don't have records but subfrm3 does.
is their a way to do this?

I'm developing a database where people basically can fill in an order form and then the database can track if the order has been placed, when it came in etc.I have a form called frm_Suppliers to be Ordered that runs off a query. The tables that relate to the query are called tbl_Products, with a primary key called ID and tbl_Suppliers, with a primary key called Supplier ID.
The form called frm_Suppliers to be Ordered, shows a list of suppliers that have open orders. Each supplier may have several orders open. I want to be able to click a button after each supplier name and bring up a continuous form that relates to all the records from that supplier that have open orders.
I have tried using the code found in the thread called "open a form based on the record that is selected in current form" from 06-08-2011, however it will only work when my form lists each open order separately, not when they are grouped by supplier.
I have a form (Student Details) that has an unbound lookup box using a query to select a student. The lookup has the hidden Student ID autonumber key field plus Class Number, Last Name, First Name, Status, sorted by Class Number (descending), Last Name, First Name.
The form record source is a similar but unsorted query.
There are nearly 1000 student records. The form has pages (tabs). The lookup box is in the form header. There are dozens of fields in the 1st Page (General) including an picture (attachment, not hyperlink) field holding a photo of the student, the other 6 pages have less.
When you select a student via the look up, at least one sometimes more students "flash" before it displays the one you want, which seems to display twice before it stops.
I deleted the picture field to see what difference that made, because it seemed to do the most flashing, and indeed, without that field you go right to the record. I looked at the Student table indexes and it seems that field type is not index-able, which is understandable.
Is there any way to improve this with still leaving the photos as attachments? Some thoughts:
It improves if it is displayed first as an Icon or Paper Clip, and probably would if a hyperlink field, but we like to have the picture displayed and not have to open the link to see it nor worry about the location changing invalidating a link. It seems that if the record was displayed with the picture field only filled after all the other fields were filled it would make for a better impression.
Can an On Load form event VBA or Macro be written that either hold the picture back until the rest of the fields are displayed or if an icon or changed to a hyperlink to open. Would it work if the pictures were attached to a separate joined table?
I have a form listing tasks to which I make personnel assignments with a multi-value list field type. It takes some time to select from 15-25 employees on the list for each task, especially considering that small groups of employees will be assigned to the same selection of tasks.
What I want to do is select multiple records with the mouse, then click a command button opening a form in dialog mode with the selection list. The user then clicks to make his selections and clicks ok, which then updates the multi-select field for the selected records.
The record source of a form that I have is based on a user selection in a combo box in the header of the form. When the form opens there may or may not be any records to display. Currently I put up a message box when there are no records displayed but this only happens when the form is newly opened.
I was wondering if it is possible to have a label displayed in the detail section instead whenever there are no records to display, such as something along the lines of "There are no records to display with the selected option, please choose an alternative.".
I realise that I may be asking the impossible but I'm a member of the "If you don't ask you'll never know" club.

I am building a tracking database where we would be able to track information which field are null data and report them to our Administration to fill the null data. For this I have created a form name "Search" and I have a combo box control on that form which is bound to "Table = employee" and its ROW SOURCE TYPE="Field List", I would like to able to query records where the selected value in this combo box is null through out the table.
For example if I select "Telephone" from this combo box dropdown, I would like the query to show all the records where the "Telephone" is null, how to set the criteria in query to take the combo box value as "Field Name" and then compare it with the Field/Column in the table and show the null values.
How to create a message when no records are found from a form to a query in the report.
Example; Donations From Great Britain have no records

It just started happening today, and I haven't even made any changes to the database. It occurs when I hit a button I have to run a macro.
the macro does the following:
1) Shows all records
2) Requery
3) ApplyFilter.
The Where Condition for the filter is:
Right([tblContracts].[JobNum],4)=Right([Forms]![FrmContProc].[txtFindJobNum],4)
The weird thing is that it only occurs if the Form window is taller than 1/2 of my viewable area. If the Form window is 1/2 the viewable area or shorter, it works OK. This was running fine earlier today, but about 4:00 pm (03/31/06) this started happening.
If anybody knows what this error means, or how to get rid of it (I really need to use this window in full-screen) then please let me know.

I have the codeing from here URL....Now, the problem im having is, that for the shows I have this code:

That is so that each show has the month and year attached to the name, so its easier to find out when they were, from just looking at them in the list box.But, if I use the search that John (The OP of that link) then if I were to search for 2015, and try to open a show, it just opens to a blank frmEventsEdit1. Even though I currently just tell it:

While going to the design mode of a form, I regularely get the following message :
Microsoft Access can't run the macro or callback function 'fDesign'.
In my Dbase there is no macro with that name.
Can anyone tell me what this messages means and how to get rid of this thing.

I have attached a screen print of an error message I recieved on my access database. I finally got it to come up, but only after a few pop up boxes with this error message.
I do know the shared drive it is housed on went on the fritz. So I copied it and pasted it to my desk top. Grrr...I thought this message was due to the flipping shared drive. But now, I recieved it on my desk top too.
Anywho...can someone look at it and tell me what it means.

I get an error message when I open access 2003 database "database contains a missing or broken reference to the cacview.ocx version 1.0
All help so far says to go to tools>references.
My tools in the help menu does not have references

I have a table that keeps crashing. The only error message I get is "Invalid Argument". Each time, a single record will turn into "#Error". Each field says this in the row. When this happens, Access won't let me delete just that row,
Any ideas how to delete them?
