Locked Access Database

Dec 6, 2004

I have a MS Access 97 database that seems to be locked. I wish to update it but I cannot open it as a regular file. When it is opened, there is no way to edit the database or access any of the controls that are usually present. The tool bars are even different.

Any idea?

Thanks,
WJ

Locked Out Of My Access Database

Mar 9, 2007

I am completely locked out of my Access Database!

Basically, I have 3 forms which have all got the properties set to DISALLOW right clicking on them to prevent users accessing the design of the form, they all have code behind them so that they cover the entire screen and block ALL menus/shortcuts apart from those available on the form and I have set up a command button on each form which is password protected to ONLY allow Admins to access the design/backend of the form/database when they enter a valid password.

However, I was playing around with the settings of all these forms and have inadvertantly locked myself out, the last thing I remember doing was setting up a "Password" form to collect the Administrator password which had code attached to allow access to the database design. This was working fine until I tried "tweaking" it and now whenever I input the CORRECT password, I get the error message;-

"Error 2585: This action can't be carried out while processing a Form or Report event"

If I enter an INCORRECT password, I get the standard "Login Failed-Please try again" form that I have set up.

The "Password" form doesn't have an override/Cancel (I wanted to make it REALLY secure) it means that although I can use the database fine for entering/editing information/data within the database when it first opens, as soon as I want to make changes to the design and try to log in with "Admin" privellages using my custom made "Password" form, it then pops up with the password screen and goes no further.

I do have a backup of this database BEFORE I set up the "Password" security to collect the "Admin" Password but I can't remember the code I used and although I can work it out again, it will take me a LONG time to work it out again. So I was wondering if any of you might have some ides or a workaround I could try to gain back "Admin" rights to my database.

Does this makes sense? As stated I do have a backup so if all else fails I'm going to have to try to remember how I got it working in the first place BEFORE I cocked it up but if any of you could save me the trouble that would be very much appreciated!

Thank you very much

Alex

Database Locked Up NEED HELP

Apr 18, 2007

I have a database that I password protected. Somehow, in the process of applying the password, the file became corrupted and now I am getting the following error message:

"This database is in an unexpected stat; Microsoft Office Access can't open it.

This database has been converted from a prior version of Microsoft Office Access by using the DAO CompactDatabase method instead of the Convert Database command on the Tools menu (Database Utilities submenu). This has left the database in a partially converted state."

Does anyone know what this error is and how I can retrieve my data?? I have tried to import the files into a new database, convert the database into a different version and compact and repair. Nothing has worked. I have looked into recovery tools and two of them do get me into the database and let me see some of the data, however, the programs are holding my information hostage until I purchase the software which is running around $300.00. Any ideas???

Database Locked Error

Mar 28, 2008

OK, I have a database that works great when used on 1 computer. Basically, a friend of mine has a dj show, and he wants an electronic request system. So, I came up with this database, which works great on one computer. I am attaching the database.

So, the problem is, the database is on the dj computer, and then there is another computer on the network that will be setup for accepting requests. When I have the database running on one computer, when you try to open it on the other, it gives me a locked database error. Obviously the requests need to make it from one computer to the other. I'm pretty sure I didn't have it open exclusive. Any ideas...... I'm having a brain fart today, and I've not had much sleep.

Database Locked By User

Jul 25, 2007

I have a 2000/2003 format database used only for reporting.

It has linked tables to an SQL Server database.

It automatically opens a form with two buttons on it (no data) and hides the database window and the regular menu, replacing it with my own toolbar.

The default open mode for the database is "Shared."
The default record locking for the database is "No Locks"
On the opening form, the record locking is set to "no locks."

Yesterday, no problem for two of us to share it.

However, when I open it on my computer (not to edit - to use. I simply open it - not in exclusive mode.), and then another person opens it, they get the message that says "the database has been placed in a state by "Admin" on machine (my machine) that is locked and will not be able to be opened." (not verbatim, but close.)

When the other person opens it first and then I try to open it, I get a message that I don't have exclusive access and will not be able to save changes. I have to hit okay about 6 times, but then it opens.

Some users at off-site locations are having problems sharing - some are not.

Any ideas?

Server Dumped...Database Locked...What To Do?

Feb 8, 2007

I log into my server via remote connection from 3000 miles away. My database resides there.

If for what ever reason, I dump locally - the server does not recognize that I dumped - and thus keeps me logged in.

When I log back in, it logs me in as a second instance.

Here is the problem:

I was in access changing a form when I was dumped. (power went out). Now the server thinks I am still connected working on it. How do I shut down the service that has the DB locked - and delete the record-locking file that resides in the directory beside the database. (this record-locking file is the file that access creates whenever you start editing your database forms..etc...). I can't just delete that file - as access tells the server that it is still in use.

I am almost sure a reboot would rectify this issue - is there ANOTHER way to do this? (what is the service that is running that can be forced down?)

Thanks in advance,

Belchlord - way down South.

How Does Database Get Locked When Can't Write LDB Files

Aug 1, 2014

I have a database on a shared network drive. All users except the manager have only read access to the file/directory. However, if the manager tries to open the file while other users have access open, it only allows him to read it as read only. If they close the database, then he can open it with read-write. Does access use another mechanism other than ldb files for locking? The weird thing is that it seems to be locking correctly. If the manager tries to open the file while someone has it open, it's read-only.

can't log on to database

Hi all,
I was playing with passwords for one of my access db.
I tried opening the db with the password, but it won't work. So, I thought I forgot the password. I checked some posts on this forum that helped in retrieving the password and it's the same that I have been trying. I am not sure if the Name is correct, is there a way to retrieve the log on name?

I also noticed that when I try opening any other db on my system, it asks me to log on, I though I was only applying a password to one file.

Please help

Thanks!

Help! Access DB File Locked!

Jul 26, 2005

Hi All

I am using OLEDB to connect to an Access DB and it does use the "admin" account as the default user to connect from within Access i.e. this is not a Windows account.

I have an ASP.NET web page that is trying to do a compact and repair using a jet/MDAC object called JRO (Jet Replication Object).

The problem is whenever I call the JRO object I get this error:

"You attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user 'admin' on machine..."

If I try and delete the .ldb file it is ofcourse locked. I found that if I do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and end the aspnet_wp process I am then able to delete the .ldb file and then successfully execute the compact and repair from the ASP.NET web page.

The aspnet_wp process when ended simply restarts itself (a new instance no doubt) and in doing so cannot remember it had a lock on the access db.

My conclusion is that the aspnet_wp process locks the access db file for or on behalf of the "admin" user in the access db.

Even if all connections have been closed the aspnet_wp process has a lock on the database file!

I am still searching for a way to tell the aspnet_wp to let go of the access db file!

I did use getprocessbyname() from the ASP.NET page to try and kill the instance of aspnet_wp programmatically and try and force it to forget by starting a new instance of itself, but ofcourse IIS gets really upset and won't let me kill this process from an ASP.NET page because I figure that in this case its suicide and aspnet/IIS won't "kill" itself but would be happy to "kill" other processes.

Anyway, I would have been content with the "kill the aspnet_wp process instance" approach except it won't suicide.

Does anyone have any idea how I might tell the aspnet_wp process to let go of the acccess db file?

By the way, I found the only account you need in a dev environment is the ASPNET account with read/write access and also your own account if you want to browse the folder yourself. No other accounts needed.

Any ideas appreciated.

I think this one has me beaten

Please Help With Access 2000 Locked-out Open Problem!

Apr 21, 2005

I greatly appreciate your help on 2 issues:

1/ At work, I have Access 2000 application residing on a Novel server for multiusers purpose. Everyday, occasionally, the application is locked out by whoever opens first (I think?). Some of other users could not open it since it has the message like "locked out by a particular (computer name)...". Therefore the user of that computer name needs to close the application so others can open it. This issue is not happen in Access 97 as we used that version before and it is not consistent happening, so I could not find the pattern or know why?? Please let me know if you have seen this problem and how to prevent it...

2/ Do we have a way to trigger or initiate GroupWise email inside an Access 2000 application. For example, if a purchase order is created in Access 2000 application, I want to email a co-worker...OR it can be automatically sent an email to my supervisor for notifying the purchase order so he can approve it?

Thanks so much in advance for all the helps...

Database Window Shows After Printing Form

Feb 16, 2005

Hello team,

My database window is hidden.

I have a form with data about an article. When I click a button, another form opens showing a sales graph of that article.

On the form with the graph, I have put another button to print it. The code behind that button is:

Private Sub printpriceevolution_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_printpriceevolution_Click

Dim stDocName As String
Dim MyForm As Form

stDocName = "frm_priceevolution"
Set MyForm = Screen.ActiveForm
DoCmd.SelectObject acForm, stDocName, True
DoCmd.PrintOut
DoCmd.SelectObject acForm, MyForm.Name, False

Exit_printpriceevolution_Click:
Exit Sub

Err_printpriceevolution_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_printpriceevolution_Click

End Sub

The funny thing is that after the printing (which works fine) my database window is shown, where it is supposed to be hidden.

Any idea what could trigger this? Does it have to do with pop-up dialog box settings?

Thanks

Forms :: Ordering Database - Field Not Printing?

I have an Ordering database where the order form contains a subform with the order lines (Order_line_subfrm). In this subform footer I have 4 currency fields, one f which is delivery fee (default is set to zero). When I add a fee into this field on screen, everything works (i.e. adds up) and the value is there to see. When I go to print the form (paper or PDF) the delivery fee returns to zero (the database entry is still present).

Reports :: Inventory Database - Printing A Report That Matches Real Layout

Jul 20, 2015

I want to track inventory. All our items are tubes that are stored in boxes in a 10x10 grid. So I have a single access table with columns for tube ID, box ID, and position in the box (numbered 1-100). That works fine in terms of 'where can I find tube x'. However it's also useful to be able to look at the physical box & check that there are tubes where should be tubes, and empty spaces where there should be empty spaces. So for each box in the database, I want to print out a 10x10 grid, with the appropriate tube ID's in the appropriate place. Then I can easily check the layout in the database against the layout in the actual box.

Modules & VBA :: Printing Code Slowing Down Printing Reports?

Feb 25, 2014

I was having trouble just setting each report with a particular print method - for some reason they just kept forgetting their individual settings and resorting to default on the machine.

This meant reports were printing on the wrong paper, or the wrong size paper, the wrong orientation and some times refusing to print if it couldn't find the paper (which is useful in runtime as it doesn't display error messages)

So I used Reports(rpt).printer properties (I forgot where I found this) to hard code the printer properties into each print command... this meant I had to use another function to insert the variables.

So all I had to do was say:

Code:
PrintMe("Invoice","InvoiceID",iID)

and a report would print to exactly how I wanted... but it's just too slow!

See attached for full code, I have a niggling feeling it may be the function: PrinterOK, to make sure the printer exists or not.

Code:
Function PrinterOK(sPrinterName As String) As Boolean
Dim MyPrinter As Printer
PrinterOK = False
For Each MyPrinter In Printers
If MyPrinter.DeviceName = sPrinterName Then
PrinterOK = True
Exit Function
End If
Next
End Function

I know it's the printing code, because if I stop the printing and just preview then it shows up almost instantly.
