Problem Displaying JPEG Images Stored In Access DB

Aug 12, 2005

It may seem a really silly question but is there any restrictions as to the file types that can be stored in an Access DB.

I havent used Access in a while, but have been asked by a friend to create a simple DB holding info about cars he is selling, he only wants to hold thumbnail images of the cars so I can either link or embed the pics! However if I try to link or embed a jpeg image nothing appears in the bound object frame except for the image title i.e. bmw325i.jpg if I do exactly the same with a bitmap image the pic is displayed???

The only other difference I have noticed is that in table view of the relevant table a bitmap appears as Bitmap Image whereas a JPEG appears as Package????

Any ideas

Thanks in advance

Using Images Stored In Local Folder In Report

Apr 25, 2005

Hi All;

Any advice would be much appreciated….

I have a db of products which drives an ASP website, and includes links to images, which I have now stored locally (with the image path amended to point to the local images folder) along with the images folder containing all the images.

What I now need to do, is produce Access reports using these images, this I initially assumed would be a simple task, but hasn’t in practice worked out that simple!!

So, I now have local folder containing the images, and the products table with an Image field that stores the local path to the image – How can I now get the record and corresponding image to appear in my report? I’ve tried using an OLE field for the images, but this means updating each record manually (unless there is any way of updating the OLE field from the existing image path field??)

Am I missing something totally obvious here?

Thanks in anticipation!

Forms :: Full Path To Images Are Stored As JPG In ClientTable Not As OLE

Sep 27, 2013

I have several text boxes which I can populate using the DLookup.I have images I want to display for individual records.I use a search (textbox) to input client name and this populates all other textboxes. I am trying to get the relevant image to display also using this search box. I have also disabled record selectors just tidy up the form. I have tried coding the image control on the AfterUpdate event of the search box. Full path to images are stored as JPG in my ClientTable not as OLE.

Displaying Multiple Images With .SourceDoc

Dec 21, 2006

Hi,

I am new to Access forms and need some help. I did some research and figured out to display images in Acess Forms while getting the image path from a text field in the table. The images are suppose to change for each record. I have no problem displaying the first image a different image for each record but I am having problems displaying the second image. I have to 2 different fields for both image paths in the table. Here is the code:

Private Sub Form_Current()
On Error Resume Next
If Not IsNull(Me![Image1]) Then
Me![ImageFrame1].OLETypeAllowed = 1
Me![ImageFrame1].SourceDoc = Me![Image1]
Me![ImageFrame1].Action = 0
Else
Me![ImageFrame].SourceDoc = "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsMy PicturesSample Pictureso-image.bmp"
Me![ImageFrame].Action = 0
End If

If Not IsNull(Me![Image2]) Then
Me![ImageFrame2].OLETypeAllowed = 1
Me![ImageFrame2].SourceDoc = Me![Image2]
Me![ImageFrame2].Action = 0
Else
Me![ImageFrame2].SourceDoc = "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsMy PicturesSample Pictureso-image.bmp"
Me![ImageFrame2].Action = 0
End If
End Sub

The problem is that the function returns after 'Me![ImageFrame].Action = 0' and doesn't go to the part where I am checking if the 2nd image exists. If I take out 'Me![ImageFrame].Action = 0' then it doesn't display the first image and goes on the 2nd image and displays the 2nd image.
So that he bottom line is, with this code I can only display one image (either f1st or 2nd). Also, I tried using .Picture property instead of .SourceDoc but that doesn't work either. How can I change this so that I can display both images?

I really need to figure this out and will really appreicate any help. Thank you

Reports :: Displaying Linked Images In Reports

Jul 9, 2013

Access 2007
Windows Vista
GOAL: Display linked images in image control, and to ultimately to export reports to pdf to share with family by email or to print
ERROR: There isnt enough free memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again.

Ive created a DB for family heirlooms and as part of this Ive included images. Ive done this by storing the filename of the picture as text in the table tblPicture with a one to many relationship to the tblItem. This allows for many pictures of the item itself. I wanted to be able to show the most represent able photo of each item and added a checkbox titled primary picture to the tblPicture. I use this value in the querys to filter out all but one image per record.

I've added around 450 items to date, many of which have multiple pictures. I have started to run into some memory trouble now when running a few query driven reports.

I have stored only the file name in a text field in a table of the DB. I store all of my images in an images folder that is relative and constant to the DB location. I use code to display the images on the form with no problems (yet).

For displaying images on my reports,
1. I check to see if the record has an image path stored
2. If not I set the image control on the report to nothing
3. If there is a relative path stored I collect the DB path, and add the relative path and set the image control to that concatenated path

Code:
Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
Dim strDBPath As String
Dim strRelativePath As String
Dim strPath As String

[code]...

Lastly, I have a few different pre-built reports that generate any number of records. I can select by the original owner of the item. If that person has only a few items to their name I have no problems.how can I set up my report to display my reports with images to avoid the lack of memory. Is using the image control and setting the picture property in code wrong?

Using Stored Procedures In Access

Nov 15, 2007

I have an Access mdb that has a bunch of tables linked from a SQL Server. On the SQL Server I have some stored procedures that do inserts into various tables. In the Access db I have some local (lookup) tables, queries, and other things that for various reasons can't/don't need to be stored in the SQL server. I'm using Windows authentication to connect to the SQL server because the security is managed through our domain.

I want to write a form that has unbound text fields that, when I submit the form passes all of those values as parameters to a stored procedure in the SQL server. I have written just such a form in an .adp file, which handles the integrated security nicely.

However, I'd rather do this in a regular .mdb file. I've read up on how I can use an ADO connection to do this, then create a SQL string to EXECUTE the stored proc, grab all the values off the form, and build the SQL.

But the problem with this solution is the authentication - I can't use the SA user and password in this connection string, I'd have to utilize the logged-in user's information.

Is there an easier way to execute the stored procedure from an .mdb? Using the integrated authentication?

Failing that, is there a way that I can create "local" (to the .adp) tables, queries, and so on in an .adp?

Access 2000 And SQL Stored Procedure

Oct 6, 2003

I have a MS SQL 2000 stored procedure that acepts a parameter and returns a recordset.

I want to run this Stored procedure from an Access 2000 report and use the recordset for the report.

I want to pass a field off of a form that is user entered to the stored procedure.

Is this possible. Any help is appreciated.

I can figure out how to attach the stored procedure to the report as the dataset but cannot seem to figure out how to pass the dynamic parameter to the Pass-Through Query.

Thanks in advance,

Knight.

Images In Access, Possible?

Oct 12, 2005

Is it possible to efficiently store images in an Access database without having to install custom COM files and the like on your server?

I know it's possible to store them using OLE objects but I've heard this adds a significant amount of data to the image when storing. Is this correct?

Does anyone know how I could get around this?
I'm interfacing the DB via the web, unfortunately I have to use an access DB for the task and can't tinker with the server.

Many Thanks,
Richard

Storing Images In Access

Feb 24, 2005

Which is a more robust approach when designing an Access database in regards to storing images, such as TIFFs. Is it better to store the images in each data record as necessary or is it better to just store a path in the database that points to a location of where the image resides (on a hard drive somewhere for instance.)

JPEG Prossing From SQL DB

Nov 19, 2004

Hi everyone.

I have a problem displaying jpg files in a bounded image object.

After connecting Access 03 with ODBC to a SQL Server DB (SQLSDB) I wanted to display the image content of a table (jpg files) in Access. Instead of images Access returns the image filename.

After installing Microsoft Converter Pack and Photo Edit from an old Office XP Edition I was able to display jpg in unbounded image objects and simple image objects, but still the problem with the bounded image object witch contain the jpg files remains.

Any Suggestions ???

Thanks for your time

My Stored Procedure Reverted Back -- Could Access Be The Culprit?

May 1, 2006

[Note: This pertains to an Access Data Project (ADP).]
I modified a stored procedure on SQL Server, and later discovered that my changes had disappeared. I'm wondering if there's any possiblity that my Access ADP might have been the culprit.

I would think the answer is no. When I open an ADP in design mode, I think of the the top three displayed categories (Tables, Queries and Diagrams) as "windows" (binoculars, whatever) onto SQL Server. My understanding is, ADPs do not directly store any data in these categories.

Since Access lumps stored procedures under "Queries" I would think they would be no exception. The one thing that makes me a bit suspicious is, when I look at the stored procedure from the Access side, it begins with "ALTER PROCEDURE", whereas SQL Server stores it as "CREATE PROCEDURE". I see why it makes sense to implement it this way, but it makes me wonder if Access is actually storing a local version of the script.

Any ideas?

Open Excel File Stored In Access Database

Feb 8, 2007

I need to open an Excel file that has been stored in the Access Database using the insert Object functionality of MS Access manually.

What i am aware of is that i cant just read the field containing the Excel File into a Byte Array and pass it to the Excel object in C#,as the file is wrapped in the OLE Wrapper used by Access while inserting the file in database.

I have tried locating the Header of Excel file from the byte array and read the file from there on but it is not working.

while (true)
{
if (0xE11AB1A1E011CFD0 == BitConverter.ToUInt64(byStream, i))
break;
i++;
}
output.Write(byStream, i, byStream.Length - i-1);

byStream is a byte array into which i have read the Excel file from Database.
I am locating the Excel file header in the byte stream and am writing the byte array to a file from that location.But on opening the written file it dosent work.
Similar approach had worked in case of Images but now in this case.

Can some one please tell me as to how i can open the Excel File.
Can I use Interop.Access object to achieve the goal??

Changing JPEG In Subform

Jun 1, 2005

I am working on a database with two main tables: One table that is linked in from another database, and another table contains addresses to the location of jpegs that correspond with the records in the linked table. (Every record does not have corresponding jpeg, only some of them do.) The way the forms are currently set up, there is a main form and a subform. The main form contains only a combo box where the user can choose a record. The subform shows the rest of the information pertaining to the record, including the jpeg. The problem is that all the other information changes when the user chooses a different record - except for the jpeg, it stays the same. The code to pull the jpeg into the form works when under the form load procedure, but the jpegs do not change when a different record is selected from the combo box on the form. I tried to do this a straight forward way, and then I tried using the RaiseEvent command, but nothing seems to work. I have a relationship b/t the 2 connecting fields, and I have tried all 3 join types. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How To Secure Passwords Stored On Access Or Implement Server Security Over Jet?

Nov 21, 2007

I'm not sure which is the better of two options-

My problem is I need to make it easy for my users by authenticating themselves once when they open the database. User-level security is adequate for that job, but when I need to use the authentication information for connection string, I'm a bit antsy about storing it somewhere in Access, as I understand that passwords shouldn't be stored in the database itself (and as far as I can tell, it's not even encrypted or hashed!)

I am wondering if converting it to MDE would be sufficient to encrypt the password or will it still be apparent using a hex editor? I also know that Jet can try to use its own security to authenicate to the back-end, but not sure what I need to do to prompt Jet to pass along the credentials.

Alternatively, would it be better to somehow implement login using backend's security model, if even possible?

TIA.

Accessing The Builtin Bitmap Images In Access

There are those builtin bmp images in access e.g. delete, edit, select, filter, etc etc. I am trying to access the location of these small bitmap images and use them for a web application i am creating. Do you know where they are located? I am searched with no luck.

Someone also sent me an access db, i'd like to reuse the buttons (same bitmap images: edit, delete) from this access db. Where do i go to extract the images?
