Problem With Using KeyUp Event For TextBox

Jun 1, 2005

Hi there,

Recently I'm designing a Data Entry interface, which contains more than 10 textbox (fields). Instead of asking users to move cursor manually after each data entry, I want the system can automatically move the cursor to the next textbox.

I tried to use keyUp Event set for each textbox. It did work but not in the way as I expected. I only typed in one character in that textbox without finishing the whole word. The system has already moved cursor to next textbox.

How can I solve this problem?

or is there any other solution for automatically moving the cursor to the next textbox after filling the data for each textbox?

Many thanks

On_Change Event - Textbox

Aug 26, 2005

Sure this one is simple but seem to be stuck (Friday!?!)

Is there a way to keep a running total of the length of text being entered into a text box?

I have a text box which I only want 100 chars to be entered and would like a count for the users of the number they have left to use. Using the len() function in the on_change event does not seem to pick up the length of the text in the box until it has updated.

Thanks in advance.

Modules & VBA :: Textbox Not Populated In NotInList Event

Mar 22, 2014

SQL related with Spec combo box:

Code:
SELECT S.Key, S.Spec FROM tblSpecs AS S ORDER BY S.Spec;

NotInList code:

Code:
Private Sub cboSpecs_NotInList(NewData As String, _
Response As Integer) ' MODIFY SPEC ENTRY.
10 Dim db As Database

[Code]....

1) For some reason, txtMessage is not displayed on the form when NotInList is processed. I see it get populated properly in debug mode, but it never gets on the form. But txtMessage gets displayed normally in Add and Delete events.

It seems to do with the way NotInList works because txtMessage is displayed if I use acDataErrContinue. But that's not what I want; it leaves the combobox list open and can't save record if I close the form.

2) DLookup is used to extract the old Spec value to display in the message. I can see the old Spec in debug mode in cboSpec.column, but Listindex is -1 and unusable.

I don't know how to point to the proper record in the list. The only other way I can think of is to loop through the list comparing the Key, and then extract the Spec.

I don't know if it's more efficient to use lookup or loop.

Forms :: Change Event - Cannot Access New Contents Of Textbox

Oct 2, 2013

I am developing a form whereby the user types a single character or a sequence of characters into textbox and a query WHERE clause is compiled upon each character being entered.

The query is the Row Source of a listbox which I requery upon each change in the text box contents.

In the Change event I cannot access the new contents of the textbox until focus moves to another control and then back to the textbox. This is not how I expect this event to work.

Forms :: Update Textboxes With A Formula Without Using AfterUpdate Event For Each Textbox

Aug 24, 2013

I have a form with 7 types of weights (7 textbox rows) showing 7 weights in kgs and the others in lbs.When the user update any weight-kgs textbox, the opposite weight-lbs textbox will be updated automatically, and viceversa.Now, I'd like a fast way to code this action without writing the After Update_event for every textbox (they're 14).I have already setup textbox tags differently with "WeightKGS" and "WeightLBS", thinking about using "for each ... next" statement, but I have some problems to resolve what I want.

General :: Populate Unbound Textbox With Combo Box After Update Event

Nov 13, 2012

I am populating a table using combo boxes in a continuous form. The box box alone works fine without any issue of repeated data. But as you know obviously the combo box only populates data in a single column of the table, in which case mine is the LASTNAME; so now I am attempting to populate a unbound textbox with the FIRSTNAME side-by-side with the combo box for the same record.

In the After Update event of the cboLASTNAME:

Code:
Me.txtFIRSTNAME = Me.cboLASTNAME.Column(3)

However, after updating the the combo the textbox data is repeated.

Is there a possible solution to this?

Getting A Textbox To Populate Based On Another Textbox

Mar 18, 2005

Dear All:

I have created a form using access 2000. So far, this form already has data and dates in a combox in this format: mm/dd/yyyy.

In the AfterUpdate of the date combobox, I did this:

If graduation_date = #2/1/2004# then
Text_Graduation_date = "dated this first day of february two thousand four."
End If
End Sub

In addition, I have defined many other dates as well using the code above. It works well when I choose the date form the combobox, the other textbox populates, but there are so many more dates in the combo!

Is there a way to auto-populate the textbox with the appropriate text as I scroll through the form?

Thanks,

Dion

Forms :: Bringing Entered Data From One Textbox On Form To Textbox On Another Form

May 17, 2013

I currently have two froms, "add record" and "add record cont." The reason I have two seperate forms is because when clients create a new record information needs to be saved to two different tables and when creating one from with fields from both tables I ran into many problems. The two tables are named : tblMain, tblFileLoc Currently there is a textbox on both forms named "fileID" the FileID in the first form is from tblMain and is the primary key for that table, the FileID on the second form "Add Record Cont." is just a normal field. When clients enter in the new FileID in the first form "Add Record" and then move onto the next form "Add Record Cont." i need access to bring the entered FileID from the first form and Fill it in the FileID field in the second form. Currently I have tried making the control source for the textbox on the second form = the textbox on the first form but it brought up an error.

Dear All:

I have created a form with various textboxes. In one unbound textbox called Graduation_date, I input information and this is reflected in another bound textbox called text762.

However, as I scroll through the form, the information that is to be reflected in textbox 762 disappears.

Any ideas on how to apply the information entered in Graduation_date textbox to all?

Which Event?

Apr 4, 2005

I have a form that has (among other things):

1) a delete button (to delete a record)
2) a Search Payee box (that lists all payee names)
3) an SSN text box

I have code in the "On Enter" event of the SSN text box that pops up a message box asking which way to format the SSN (regular or as tax id). This works fine when entering a new record.

I just discovered, however, that when I delete a record then this message box comes up as well and I don't want it to. Instead I want to use the code "srchPayee.SetFocus" after a record is deleted to move the cursor/focus to the Search Payee box so that the SSN message box does not invoke.

I've tried putting the "srchPayee.SetFocus" in events on the form and also on the delete button, but no matter what I do the SSN message box still pops up after the record is deleted. Which event can I put this code in so that after deleting the record the focus moves to the Search Payee box and the SSN message does not appear?

Thanks!
Laurie

Which Event Should I Use?

May 20, 2005

Form1 has a sub form, Form2, which have a tab control with a number of tabs. One of them, Tab4, includes a sub form, Form3.

I have an SQL statement that I want to run (using DoCmd.RunSQL) when Form3 is shown on screen the first time, e.g. when Tab4 activates. I've tried OnClick for Tab4, OnActivate for both Form3 and Tab4 along with a dozen other events with no result. Maybe the problem is that the tab control is also in a subform?

Any suggestions?

Help With Event Procedure

Apr 11, 2006

Can someone help? I am working on an event database (based on Microsoft 2003 event database template). At present when I register attendees, I can preview an invoice which is generated based on the information I have entered.

I have set up another option to preview a Letter of Confirmation based on this same principal. As I am "Visually Basic" challenged, I simply 'copied & pasted' the event procedure and made the changes as needed to ensure the correct report was opened (ie not the Invoice report but Confirmation Letter report).

However, when I click the button to open preview the letter, the "Print Invoice" box also opens up (as it does when previewing the invoice). I don't want this box to open as I don't need to enter any details.

Can someone please have a look at my VBA event below to see what I would need to delete to stop the "Print Invoice" box from popping up.

Private Sub LOC_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_ConfirmationLetter_Click
If Me![Attendees Subform].Form.RecordsetClone.RecordCount = 0 Then
MsgBox "Enter attendee and registration information before previewing the Confirmation Letter."
Else
DoCmd.OpenReport "ConfirmationLetter", acPreview, , "[RegistrationID]=" & Forms![Attendees]![Attendees Subform].Form![RegistrationID]
End If

Exit_ConfirmationLetter_Click:
Exit Sub

Err_ConfirmationLetter_Click:
If Err <> 2501 Then
MsgBox Err.Description
End If
Resume Exit_ConfirmationLetter_Click
End Sub

Many thanks for any help.

PS - Below is the original 'Preview Invoice' event that I copied:
Private Sub PreviewInvoice_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_PreviewInvoice_Click
If Me![Attendees Subform].Form.RecordsetClone.RecordCount = 0 Then
MsgBox "Enter attendee and registration information before previewing the invoice."
Else
DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acRecordsMenu, acSaveRecord, , acMenuVer70
DoCmd.OpenReport "Invoice", acPreview, , "[RegistrationID]=" & Forms![Attendees]![Attendees Subform].Form![RegistrationID]
End If

Exit_PreviewInvoice_Click:
Exit Sub

Err_PreviewInvoice_Click:
If Err <> 2501 Then
MsgBox Err.Description
End If
Resume Exit_PreviewInvoice_Click
End Sub

Where To Put My Event Procedure

Oct 18, 2005

In my database I track a program called Bridge. Once you open bridge you can have anywhere from 1 to 7 "Sessions". Each bridge is assigned a number IE LT175A. If there are mulitple sessions they are numbered LT175A, LT175B, LT175C etc. I have a check box in my database that shows if bridge is installed on that PC. If it is then my section for session numbers are visiable, if bridge is not checked then the session numbers section isn't visiable. I currently have my Event Procedure in the After Update section. My code works because if I unclick on bridge my sessions disappears. However when I go to the next record if bridge is checked then my sessions are visiable but on the next record where it isn't checked it still displays the session section. So it isn't adjusting itself from record to record. Does my code need to go someplace else or am I doing something else wrong?
Here is the code I have:(and it's under After Update)

Private Sub Bridge_AfterUpdate()

If Me.Bridge = False Then
Me.BridgeSession_1.Visible = False
Me.BridgeSession_2.Visible = False
Me.BridgeSession_3.Visible = False
Me.BridgeSession_4.Visible = False
Me.BridgeSession_5.Visible = False
Me.BridgeSession_6.Visible = False
Me.BridgeSession_7.Visible = False

ElseIf Me.Bridge = True Then
Me.BridgeSession_1.Visible = True
Me.BridgeSession_2.Visible = True
Me.BridgeSession_3.Visible = True
'Me.BridgeSession_4.Visible = True
'Me.BridgeSession_5.Visible = True
'Me.BridgeSession_6.Visible = True
'Me.BridgeSession_7.Visible = True
End If
End Sub

Thanks,

Rick
