Problems With A Linked Table -not Finding Record In Asp Login Page
Jul 19, 2007
hi,
I linked a table (front to back) yesterday. I had a user enter information into this table. It's a login table. The login screen of the asp page is not able to find the record, even though I can see it in both tables. I am not sure what's wrong, since both tables show the same information. Does anybody have any ideas?
thanks in advance.

From what I have read, I understand you can't use the seek command on a recordset from a linked table from another database. Is that true? If so, what is the alternative to find a specific record in the table using an indexed field?

I have a ms access application in Front End and linked tables to sql server 2008 r2 in back end.. every time I open my application the linked tables ask to me for the user and password of the sql server user of the odbc conection. I want to connect to my sql database without login every time the user open the application, I know that can be possible if I start session from vba code...

I have been working on quite a few multi user Access projects in the past few months with a backend and a front end which has linked tables.
I would like to know if there is any way to find out the source of a table linked to the front end and where would its location be on the network.

Hello
Can anyone help?
Im in the process of making an access database with a login form. I used VB code to validate the login which was bound to a logon button after the user puts in a username and password.
This worked fine - but I now need to do the same for a data access page.
Can anyone tell me how to do this please?
Many Thanks

Here're something I want to achieve in my database (Access 2010):-
1. To create a login page
- The table “tblUsers” has been created.
- The login page will be popped up once the database is opened.
- The user1 will be set to be an administrator who has the right to edit the info and the structure of the database. (User1’s password: 1234)
- The user2 will be set to be an end user who will be responsible to create a quotation request through the form “frmQuotationAllinOne”. (User2’s password: 5678)
- The user3 will be set to be a supervisor who will be responsible to approve/reject/give comments to the quotation request. (User3’s password: 2468)
2. Welcome note
- Once the login procedure is done, the Welcome note will be popped up.
- Under On Load event, I have keyed in the event procedure. It worked sometimes and sometimes not. It seems that the Access database is not performing consistently and stably.

I've been looking everywhere to find a better way of finding duplicates in a table and then recording and adding another value in that record together.
Let me try to explain better.
example:
I have a table that has 2 columns "Name", "DOB". I would like to find all duplicate "DOB" and add all of the "Name"'s together.
Quote:
Name DOB
bob 19800201
Sam 19761211
Jim 19800201
The output I would like is to have Name = bob & Jim DOB = 19800201.
I've tried using the find duplicate wizard in access but I can't seem to group them together and just to find the duplicates it takes upwards of a minute.

We have two back end SQL Server databases accessed by VPN to a remote location using RDP locally. It is common to use MS Access as a report generation tool oftentimes containing linked tables from either or both db's and having Reports/Forms/Queries utilizing joins against tables from both SQL databases. Having to enter User Name and Password twice each time is more than a pain.
First a user would not have access to the MS Access report FE without first having appropriate and successful login UN/PWD to the remote server. Therefore having to login again when instancing reports/forms/queries against those linked tables/pass through queries is a minor pain. How or what process is used to tell Access to never prompt for User Name and Password? Or is there one? Kind of like telling MS Query tool in Excel to 'Remember Password'...
TIA

I have made a basic form and use it a log on screen. This requires the user to in put a user name and a password before gaining access to the main database.
The background to the form is a table where the users details are entered including the i enter the user name and password.
Is there any way to add a counter that is only visible in the table, so I can report on the different users.

i have created a login form that opens the home page when the correct credentials are entered. i would like to add an 'access level' so that when logging in the database checks the access level and opens the appropriate home page. (i.e. level one has selected options.. level three has admin)
i just need a code that checks what the users level is and then open home lvl#
(i.e. user level 1 - open 'home lvl1', user level 2 - open 'home lvl2 etc)...

I have a basic database design, well I think so anyway. It only has two tables:
1. tblClientInfo
2. tblNotes
Basically each client has multiple notes/comments that can be linked to its record, hence the tblNotes table. The two tables have a one-to-many relationship, being that each customer can have many notes.
I then have two forms:
1. Claims Loss Form
2. tblNotes_DatasheetSub1
So I can enter multiple notes for each customer. The problem I am having is with the report output. It wants to print every note (record) that is linked to the customer. I just need it to print the most recent note for each customer (It would save a lot of wasted paper).
Example of a print out of what it is doing:
John Doe - 123 Easy St - Notes 1 (Most Recent Note)
John Doe - 123 Easy St - Notes 2 (Previous Note)
John Doe - 123 Easy St - Notes 3 (and so on...)
It is printing duplicates of the same customer by adding the additional notes for that same customer on a new line.
How can I tell it to only print the customer one time in the report, and most importantly, to only use the most recent note that is linked to the customer?
I tried using DMax("NoteDate","tblNotes"), but this only returns one customer with one note. I need it to do that for each and all customers.
I have successfully ran a subquery (two queries with one linked to another) by following detailed instructions from this page I found: [URL] .... It works, but the problem is it only shows the latest date for each note, not the actual contents of the note. I feel so close with this option, but so far at the same time.
The TOP n records per group looks promising that I found here: [URL] ...., but I honestly don't know how to implement it correctly in my SQL. I am very much still learning Access and apparently have stumbled into something that is much more complicated than I had originally imagined. I just assumed I could filter the duplicates out, or tell access to print the last or most recent note record for each customer.

I created a database that performs certain functions ("functional database") and I want to archive the changes I make to that database's structure in a central repository that is nothing more than another database ("repository") that I will create to track all of the revisions made to the 80 or so databases within my department.
I would like to create a link on the main form in the functional database that will, on click open the specific record in the repository database that refers to the revisions previously made to the functional database.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

I am getting the error RunTime '2105' You can't go to the specifed record.
Just converted my test database to read from a sybase linked table rather than the development local table. It reads fine but the new record button now gives the above error. I presume I need to code myself a new record function . . .
Is this what I have to do, and if so, what's the best (and quickest!) way of going about it?
thanks

Hi,
I developed a database in Access 2000 on an XP SP2 machine with linked tables to another Access 2000 database.
Everything works fine using my machine, but when a user running Windows 2000 uses the database, they cannot add a new record to the linked table (either directly using the datasheet or a form). Running a query on the table also did not let me add a new record.
I have searched the MSDN libraries, but I wasn't able to find anything.
Any help much appreciated.

I have several tables that are linked that I need to be able to add to. This is an example of the structure:
Patient Info
ID
FK_Ward - ID of Ward table
FK_Room - ID of Room table
FK_Cond - ID of Condition table
Ward
ID
WardID
Room
ID
RoomNumber
Condition
ID
Description
Unfortunately, its not the exact one as I can't post that here! What I am trying to do is to add a new patient record using information from the other tables as guides - e.g. the user selects the name of the Ward but the ID in the Ward table is entered, the User selects the number of the room but again the ID in the Room table is entered, and for the Condition same thing. So I would like to have dropdowns (or ComboBoxes) for each of these and based on the user's selections add a new record to PatientInfo using the ID values as links.

I am trying to build a Form that will show an estimate (then eventually will be moved to a project if customer and employee aggree to price and project) in a Form F_Estimates is a M_Customers(Customer_ID) (Based on a Table) and thier info in a Subform. Also is the "projected costs" from parts out of the Parts(Part_ID) (Based on another Table) in a second Subform as a list that I need to calculate $$$ in
(Dang that still sounds evil and definately NOT understandable even after edit... so)
Here's some basic info
Tables
EstimatesandParts - Table
EstimatesandParts_ID : Autonumber
Estimate_ID : Number
Part_ID : Number
Parts - Table
Part_ID : Autonumber
PartNumber : Text (not a number due to some part#s have letters in them)
PartName : Text
Unit Price : Currency
Description : Text
Estimates - Table
Estimate_ID : Autonumber
InvoiceNumber : Text (again can have letters in it)
EstimateDate : Date/Time
EstimateTime : Date/Time
Employee_ID : Number
Customer_ID : Number
ProblemDescription : Memo
Customers - Table
Customer_ID : Autonumber
FirstName : Text
LastName : Text
CompanyName : Text
Address : Text
City : Text
Province_State : Text
Postal_ZIPCode : Text (CDN Postal codes are letter num letter...)
you can see the link table in the EstimatesandParts Table
Now I want to use that link to populate a subform in the F_Estimates form
Forms
SF_Customers - SubForm
(all boxes atm are text boxes on this form till I figure out the Parts section then will use same base for this so I can pick any customer in the database to be the customer for this estimate. Also will have ctrl button for making new customer with customer form and a refresh on Focus Gain bit of code)
FirstName
LastName
CompanyName
Address
City
Province_State
Postal_ZIPCode
SF_Parts - SubForm
Default View -Continuous Forms
(want it to be a list of parts that I can grab prices and descriptions from then in a bit of code to calculate a cost of parts)
Part_ID : Combo Box
Control Source - Part_ID
Row Source Type - Table/Query
Row Source - SELECT Parts.Part_ID, Parts.PartNumber, Parts.PartName, Parts.UnitPrice, Parts.Description FROM Parts ORDER BY Parts.Description;
(Pulls info from the table Parts for input into a list of parts to be used on that project)
PartName : Text Box
UnitPrice : Text Box
(here's where I run into problems due to the fact that the form is not based on the parts table but rather the link table EstimatesandParts so I can't propogate the info to the 2 other text boxes, ps I dont care if they cant be text boxes and have to be linked or some other type I'm not "set" just need to find out how to make it work )
(have tried a couple things to complete this task)
Me.txtPartName = Me.Part_ID.Column(2)
Me.txtUnitPrice = Me.Part_ID.Column(3)
(works AWSOME ... for ONE ROW then propogates the second selection to the first and second and third selection to first second and third and so on ...)
(tried to make control source for the txtPartName to)
=Forms!Parts!Partname
(Doesnt exist .. akkk, cant use ActiveForm either as it doesn't focus on the SubForm but the MainForm ... cry)
F_Estimates - Form
Estimate_ID
InvioceNumber
EstimateDate
EstimateTime
ProblemDescription
(all basic Text Boxes)
Employee_ID
Customer_ID
(Combo Boxes Select Customer and Employee from list of present ones of each)
SF_Customers
SF_Parts
(Both SubForms on the main form)
Now this is an Exerp from my entire Database I like to work on one small problem at a time and I have made this its own little database till I figure out the problem then I will bring the info I learn back into the rest of the database and go from there ...
Hope you can help I have a feeling I will need to make a recordset and go from there but I'm just not able to wrap my head around that for some reason
Thanks in advance for ANY and ALL help that I get from here

I have access 2010, I currently have a database in place and operational. What I am wondering is there a way to have a form come up whenever someone opens access and asks for a password and login name. Also I would like to have a 2 tier system. One for Admins and the other for users with limited access.
Is this even possible to accomplish?

Hi
I apologise if this is really basic - I am learning as i go along. I have designed a database. Most of the info is stored in the clientinfotbl. On the main form, I would have provided an option for users to search for a record based on its ID number and then pull up various forms accordingly. I am using the "find and replace" option to do this. My first question is, is there a better way? This feels a bit clunky!
Second question is, once I have entered a new record in the "newclientfrm" and go back to the mainfrm and search for that record, it cannot be found (once I have closed db and gone back in, it can then find it). Is there a way round this?
Any help would be hugely appreciated :)

Hi guys, need a bit of help with my Database. I have a Table with has ever player to play for my football club (1700 records in total), now i have another table called games (which has a record for every season played for each player, and is linked to the first table using the relationships and a field called ID. Make sense so far?
Well i then use a query to combine and calculate totals of certain fields and then i can use the query to show every single statistic possible on ASP pages. But when viewing my query in Access only 1699 records show up. So my thinkin is that either two records are identical (which is impossible because every p;layer has an ID and they cant be duplicates) OR a player has ZERO games in all years (in other words the player has no records related to it in the second table called games).
My question is, instead of searching 1700 records manually to find which one is there any way i can find which player would have NO records from the related table joint to it?

I have a database with many tables, but only two are relevant to my question.
tblPersonnel holds (amongst other fields) UniqueStaffNo (primary key), Name, Dept, FirstAider (Yes/No).
tblCourses holds details of all courses attended by staff and is linked to tblPersonnel by the UniqueStaffNo. Fields in this table include the CourseTitle and CourseDate (short date format).
I can easily identify who is a First Aider by selecting on tblPersonnel.FirstAider and I can identify which of the thousands of course records are First Aid related by looking at tbl.CourseTitle.
My question is - how can I produce a list of all current first aiders showing ONLY their most recent first aid course (latest CourseDate) so that I can calculate when they need to renew their certificate?
Any help more than gratefully received. Thanks.

I have been trying for weeks to get my login form to open up to a specific record on the mainform. I have built a form out of my Employee tbl (mainform). The table stores (ID,Name, password, EmpNumber ect.) I built a subform in that allows the user to type in the number of overtime worked on a paticular day. I have disabled the navigation on the main form so users can't advance to the next user but have enable the natigation on the subform so a particular user can advance to the next week of available overtime to input data. The goal is to get user login form to display a particular record on the main form and open a different form in the user is a supervisor.
Option Compare Database
Private intLogonAttempts As Integer
Private Sub cmdExit_Click()
DoCmd.Quit
End Sub
Private Sub cmdLogin_Click()
[code]...
'If User Enters incorrect password 3 times database will shutdown
intLogonAttempts = intLogonAttempts + 1
If intLogonAttempts > 3 Then
MsgBox "You do not have access to this database. Please contact your system administrator.", vbCritical, "Restricted Access!"
Application.Quit
End If
End Sub

Hi ,
I have developed a very basic contact DB to record enquiries coming into my business. The last field on the DB is for comments, so that anyone entering the DB can see the latest conversation we have had with a particular customer. What I want to do is create a means whereby I can find a customer within the DB and then be able to add the contents of our last conversation into the Comments field. Would there be any way of doing this via a switchboard???
I am a very inexperienced Access user so the simpler the answer the better. Many thanks in anticipation
