I am building a database from a detailed Excel file which has upwards of 22 decimal places. Access restricts the decimal usage to 15 characters. Even when selecting the 15 characters, Access rounds the entry. The only way it will work so far is as text, but it is a calculated field. Any suggestions?

Hey everyone - is there a way within Access to set the decimal places so that it holds a 0 after the decimal if you put it in that way, but also uses Auto for the # of decimal places? For example, I'm trying to create a DB in which one of the fields is to hold GPAs. It obviously looks silly to have it displayed as 4 if it's 4.0, but I would also prefer to not set the decimal places at 3 and have it displayed as 4.000. I can do this if I have to, but what would be most preferable would be to have it record the number exactly the way I put it in, whether it's 4.0 or 3.875 without cutting off anything (0's or multi-digit decimals) after the decimal. Is this possible, or do I have to customize the output in ASP?
Thanks!

Successful in loading an Access database with data from the PLC's memory. Unfortunately, I'm only able to transfer Integer values. In the database I'd like to show one of the fields as a real number by formatting the Integer value to add a decimal place. Example: 2505 to 250.5

My DB is merge in a currency field set to 2 decimal places into word. It's doing this by declaring the fields as variable, calling an instance of work then dropping the values into the bookmarks. All works fine....
When a value is 360.64 is fine, but when it's something that ends with a 0 (360.60) - is loses the 0 giving me 360.6.

I need to export a currency field to include the pence but without the decimal place, is this possible?
It also needs to be 11 characters wide.
I have tried a number of formats and can get the decimal point removed but I am not getting the pence displayed.

I'm using a calculation on my form that subtracts one number from another and stores the difference between the two in a 3rd field. This works correctly but I want the difference to show 1 decimal place at all times.
So for instance if subtract 35.1 from 35.2 I get a difference of "0.1".
But if I subtract 35.0 from 36.0 I get a difference of "1".
The first case is fine but I need the difference to be "1.0" in the second case.
I've set the number of decimal places in the table from auto to 1 and changed the format on the form to a standard number with 1 decimal place. Neither of these show a difference of 1 as "1.0"
How to force 1 decimal place at all times?

I have a pivotchart which I cause to take a huge list of people's test percentiles and calculate the average for each year. I then display the average above each bar. The problem is that there are too many numbers after the decimal place for each figure. I went into the properties and changed the number format to "fixed" but it doesn't give me the option to change the number of decimal places that are used (it does every where else in MS Office!). It seems that it just uses the regional settings for the computer. But the problem I have in changing that is that I have other pivotcharts in the same report that does something similar but needs a different number of decimal places. Is there any way around this without having to create another query to calculate the average and then having the pivotchart display the info from the new query (this is a huge database that I put together with many charts and I don't want to have to redo the way that it works just because of this decimal place issue)?

Dim theDate As Date
Dim age As Integer
theDate = Nz(Me.compDate.value, 0)
If theDate > 0 Then

End If
End Sub

I have a report and forms that do a points total to 3 decimal places.
I would like the display to be all 3 places. So if the result is 122.3, I would like the output to be 122.300
Is this possible? It just looks much nicer on the output.
See my example attached.

I've got a table [Devices] with some number fields that are already in there for another purpose.
In a different exercise I will manually collect more information from a layout drawing and give each piece of information I collect a unique reference(this could be as simple as a PK ref) and attach a "type" and "location" . This will be done randomly in a batch exercise any time.
I need to put the above into access and hold it until I choose to individually allocate these records to the number field that already exists in the [Devices] table.
I would like to add "say" a combo/List box in [Devices] where I could search for the PK Ref which when selected against a number would populate the [Devices] table with previously unallocated information. I would like to keep any combo/List box down to unallocated PK refs to make records easy to find. I guess this a kind of cut and paste exercise.

Hi,
I have a query that is run off a form. When the query opens up there is a field you can enter data into. Once you close the query the data saves into the proper place in the table. That all works great.
I'm trying to make this as user friendly as possible. Instead of having someone go up to the "x" in the top right hand corner to close the query can I place a command button in the query that is very noticeable?
Any thoughts are most welcome
Thanks
Eddie.

This is probably an easy question, but I can't figure out how to get a table to show numbers in 2 decimals points when they are inputted with 2-5 decimal points. I changed the DATA TYPE to Number and DECIMAL PLACES to 2, but when I do that, it just rounds it to a whole number. Please help, thanks!

Okay my access skills are low at best and I'm trying to build a database for work so hopefully this isn't to stupid of a question.
I'm trying to creat a query that will allow the user to type in a work type and have it generate the all records containing that work type. The way the data is in there to get it to generate just a specific work type without the input I have to use Like "*newacct*" for example. Is there any way to do this since there are more then one work types for some records?
Thank you

I have a query that is pulling from a single table of expenses the sum of expenses for each quarter. I am using only three fields: the quarter, expense type and amount paid. I am using - Qtr: DatePart("q",[PostDate]) - to obtain the quarters, grouping by quarter and then by expense type. However, the record returned for the 4th quarter shows this result: "3.0026" It should not have four digits after the decimal.
Results for the other three quarters in the same query return correctly with two digits after the decimal point. The query below was suggested to me in order to make the sum returned have only two digits after the decimal:
AmtPaid: Sum((SELECT FORMAT(PymntAMOUNT, 2) FROM tbl_expenses))
The result of this was a curious information box that said: "At most one record can be returned by this subquery." The query returned nothing. I have checked the formatting in both the table and the query itself and the format is "Standard" for both. So, I can't figure out what is producing this 4 digit problem, and why it is only in one record while all the others have two digits after the decimal.

I'm setting up a table that has several percentage fields, for which I want to display 3 decimal places in datasheet view (and later in forms and reports). I've tried to set up the fields in a variety of ways, but either I don't get a percent format, or I get 3 decimals with 2 zeros at the end. For example, 73.913% shows up as 73.900%. This, of course, causes problems in calculations, so that for a total percent field I'm getting things like 99.900% instead of 100.000%. I've tried various combinations of formatting properties for these fields (Field Size, Format, Decimal Places, and Scale) but I have yet to hit on the right one to simply display the correct value in the format of a percent.

I have a very simple query on an accounts form to show a running transaction history.
Identifying from the TransactionID (shown for display purposes only - normally hidden) three or four postings make up one transaction.
Using TransactionID 10 as an example, I'd like to have a sum of total [Credit]-[Debit] and have the query display on one line (either at the top of £1,429, or at the bottom of £16,995) to identify this is in fact one transaction, having three posts.
Transaction 9 will have obviously have one total, as this is a single post.
11 the same as 10, by having one total Transaction Value either at the top of the row or bottom.

1. I created a table that contains information about people and their details (mainly numerical info).
2. I created a form containing a command button and a label.
3. I have written a VBA script under the button so that when the button is pressed, the result of the calculation appears as the caption on the label.
My problem is...How do I get the script to run so it does the calculation for every record and places the result as a field in a query.

I have an Access 2010 table which shows Latitude and Longitude. However instead of it being in a decimal format it is displayed as 4000000000. I need to add a decimal point so that it looks like 40.00000000. If I configure the Field Properties to Decimal with a scale of eight and decimal places set to eight I can manually convert all of the data to the correct format. But I would like to have this happen automatically from a query.

I have about ten append queries to group various financial data to one main table.
I have used the round function (iff (Round(Nz([FIN_data]),2)) in the queries to round the original data into 2 decimal places but there is still one or two lines exceeding 2 decimal places.
What is the better approach to have only 2 decimal places for all append data?

Anyone knows if I can predefine decimal places in a query statement? For example, when I run the select query below, I want the MedicalPremAmt to have two digits after the "." It should look something like this: 12.38
Thank you.
