Putting Code Behind Tables In MS Access 2007?
Dec 2, 2013
Using an example:I have three tables; tbl_weight , tbl_height , tbl_bmi...How do I make tbl_bmi automatically use the weight and height values (height/ weight) to determine the tbl_bmi values? Is there a way to store code behind the tables as if I was in MS excel?

I am developing a simple database for students to register courses using Microsoft Access 2010. I have 4 tables: Student, Register, Course, and Section (1 Course can have many Sections).
Then, there is a criteria that a student can only take up to 6 courses. Hence, may I know that where and how can I include this constraint? I believe that it should be in the Macro (Before Change) of the table Register...
My relationship is: Student -> Register <- Section <- Course

Not being a code person. This code worked great for 2003, but we just installed 2007. I get an error message when the this code runs:

I have recently been modifying an existing Access 2007 database, everything seems to be working correctly, except that the main table holding most of the data is acting strangely.
If opened in database view, it is completely blank - no column headers, no data. Record count is correct and I can step through/select records, but there's just nothing visible at all.
The data clearly still exists as it can still be viewed in forms / queries / reports.
Only thing I can think of is that I have deleted a bunch of outdated queries & reports and it's possible that one or more of them may be cross-referenced with the table in another query, but still can't see why that should be causing this problem.

I have multiple tables that are linked to excel. I am creating a product selection tool to make it easy to find the products contained all these linked tables. They are necessary as they contain pricing data and information necessary to be kept in excel which is regularly updated.
Is there a way to create one table containing data from all these linked tables? I tried using an append query but realise that when the linked tables are updated the table containing all the data wont be?

I understand right off the bat if you're reaction is "don't duplicate data!!" -- mine would be too (don't fret, I know my normalization).
I've linked a table in my db to my Global Address Book in Outlook 2007 and, upon entering an employee number as a new record, would like to verify that the number entered is listed in the GAL and then pull in the associated name and location info.
The key is that I don't want this info to rely on the GAL going forward. For example, if an employee leaves or is no longer listed in the GAL, I don't want to lose the employee info (past data is needed for audit purposes). Note: I will be creating a report later to show if there are discrepancies between the GAL and my table, but that's another story...
So, what would be the best auto-fill options in Access 2007?

I am doing an assignment for uni and need to be able to autofill a textbox with the price of a service based on whether a checkbox, detailing whether the invoice has been paid, is ticked. I found the following formula which works: =IIf([Invoicepaid]=True,[ServPrice],0).
I put this into the control source box on my form but the only problem im having is that the price of the service is not being updated into the actual invoice table.

Hi,
I need to know is there any specific code that would establish link for tables from Access BE?
I know it using Get External Data...Link Tables. Even though they are in other db but it leads to increase heavy size of main db. I want no table objects (except system tables) to be displayed in main db and only link tables once main db activates and should no table remain exists in FE after closing.
There should be some way to establish connectivity of tables from Access BE at the time of opening main db . This will help a ton to reduce the size of main db and its zip file can be copied even in a 1.44 mb floppy.
I heard something about shell but exactly I don't know how to do it.
Any idea....
With kind regards,
Ashfaque

On trying to import an Excel 2007 file into Access 2007 I get the following:
1) Choose "External Data," Import, Exce
2) Select small file in MS Excel 2007 format.
3) Click on Import the source data into a new table ...
4) Choose OK
Immediately get "Microsoft Office Access has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." This message never resolves, so I have to click 'Cancel'.
Then I get "Microsoft Office Access is trying to recover your information..." I have to click "Cancel" here as well and then kill MS Access in Task Manager.
Event Viewer gives following message, which is of no help:
"ID: 2, Application Name: Microsoft Office Access, Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6215.1000. This session lasted 710 seconds with 120 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash."
Trying to import a small Excel 2003 file leads the same result. The same happens with a CSV file.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 as well. I am using Vista Ultimate.
I have turned off DEP.
How can I get MS Access 2007 to import Excel?
Thanks
Ken

I installed Office Enterprise 2007. Then I installed DEveloper Exrtensions, then Access Runtime 2007. All appear to have installed OK - they appear in Program and Features.
Instructions on runtime packaging tell me that a Developer option should appear in the resulting drop-down when I click the Office button (top-left round thing) when I have a d/b open in Access. It's not there! I have un-installed and re-installed the extensions and the runtime - still nothing!
Help!
I do have Runtime 2002 (XP) on the same PC, is that relevant?

NOTE: Im working in MS Access 2003, only results in this SQL/database (not mysyl, MSSQL etc)
I want to be able to ORDER an SQL query and put the NULL values last.
I have a basic databse:
Table name: PeopleTable
Field names: TableID, PersonField, PersonID
The aim is to order by PersonID and put the NULL values last
See pic1.jpg;
The picture (pic1.jpg) shows the database as it is without a query.
See pic2.jpg;
Picture 2 (pic2.jpg) shows the query results when I use the orderby statement (SELECT * FROM PeopleTable ORDER BY PersonID As you can see it shows the results ordered by the PersonID however the NULL values are first.
See pic3.jpg
Desired results, it is ordered by the PeronID and the NULL values are last (NOTE this is an editied screenshot). How can i achieve this is MS Access 2003?

I have a database that had some code that enabled the user to click a button and it would take information from one Access query or table and paste it into specific locations in Excel. This is important because the last worksheet has specific formatting in place.
If it didn't, I'd just use the transfer spreadsheet option and not even bother opening Excel at all with code.
I've got it working well except for the last part. The last query being copied has eight records and only one is being sent to Excel. Same code as the other queries where all of their data is going to the right spot in Excel with the right number of records.
Private Sub AM_Top_25_Click()
DoCmd.SetWarnings False
DoCmd.OpenQuery "delete_ShortPartItems", acNormal, acEdit
DoCmd.OpenQuery "append_to_Short_Part_Items", acNormal, acEdit
[Code] .....

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.
However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.
My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.

Hi All,
Background Info: I developed our main department's Access 2003 split database which is on a server for 15+ Users. I've now been given Access 2007 for development -- Users still have 2003. There are also 2 other smaller databases that are not split (.mdb).
Problem: In the split database, I've saved the Application .mdb as 2003, relinked and made a new .mde. But the Users still cannot open the database. (I did this in a copy until I figure out the nuances with 2007.) The 2 other unsplit databases can be saved as 2003 version and Users can open OK.
I'm grateful for any suggestions on working with Access 2007. I've been trying to tackle the ribbon which is a whole other question.

Whats up here?????I have found a site here...http://allenbrowne.com/bug-17.htmlMentions this problem, but refers to Vista..... Does the same apply to XP? And which is the best fix?
