I'm trying to create an Append Query in Microsoft Access to add some data from one table into another table. I checked all of the properties and fields to make sure there are no validations. I have allowed zero length, and have tested the validation rules under the tools section of the design tab on both of the tables. When I run the Append Query, I still get an error that says 0 records added due to validation rule violations.
I have a system whereby I have a Front End (FE) and back end (BE) for storing data etc.
I am appending data from the BE to the FE into a local table to work on it (checking it "OUT" so no one else can work on it, then back "IN" when finished...)
Problem is I am getting a key violation when I Append the Data back in.
I have tried: - Removing all FKs - PK is autonumber and should autogenerate when appending back in? - removed all relationships and lookups in both BE and FE tables
I have an issue as I can't see how this can be happening to 90% of the records. I just Appended them from the BE to the FE 2 secs ago, why cant they go back to the BE?
This is the SQL I am running (in VB) to append it back
TblFieldValueBE.ValueID is PK in BE (Local Linked Table) TblFieldValue.ValueID is PK in FE
Neither are Appended in the Check IN or OUT function?
I have flattened all the fields in both tables to be just Text Boxes, with Number formats (ie. QuoteID) Did have a relationship, but deleted it.
Have looked at Update and Append Query posts to, that is not appropriate for what I want to do, I want to DELETE * Where QuoteID = X so the data that is appended is the latest Data in the BE that has been worked on, and to save 000s of fields being duplicated everytime a QuoteID is called from BE to FE to BE...
Would appreciate your help as it has me stumped. Have checked all Key Violation and Append posts on this site and googled it, and spoken to a few "experts" around here........
I'm trying to append data into a table, but getting 11 records rejected on validation rule violations, but i have none set. can anyone explain why this might be?
im trying to perform an append query, but for some reason cannot due to 'key violations'.
the primary keys in both tables are exactly the same. im trying to append a row from one table to the other without creating additional records.
i can do the append, creating additional records when i remove the primary key from the destination table, but that wont work. and im getting sick of cut and paste.
I’m trying to do something which should be very simple, I’ve added a new field to a table, but for some reason it won’t update the field when using the form. It’s quite a complex form and my Access abilities are limited so I would rather not create the form from scratch.
I’m trying to create a query that displays only entry’s which contain my new field. However since I have the above problem it doesn’t seem possible. One way I see around this would be to create a rule in my query where only records were shown when the fields “price” divided by “number_of_players” = 12.5 Can someone please tell me how to write this validation into a query?
just woundering wheather you can enter a rule in textbox properties to check the data entered is equal to any of the data in a field in a select table.
Is this possible? If so can you give me an example how?
the table i will be check is "deliveries" and the field will be "driver code no"
I've been reading through the Key errors but how they apply to my application. I am appending records into a table from a main form and a sub form. I can append twice and then I get the key error.
Can't append all records in the append query. Type conversion, Key violations for 2 records. I don't understand why the subform lists the first 2 with no problem but if there are more than 2 it throws the error.I have checked the possible reasons but there are no violations.
I'm new to access so I thought this would be easier than it is. I have a list of cities in a simple table . I want use this list (or a query of it) to create a validation rule for a field in a second table "City". How, either with VBA or some other method do I use the Cities database to validate entry. These tables are both in the same project.
No records are being imported. I am getting a validation rule violation but I don't have any rules. The forename and surname are straightforward text boxes and the ID is an autonumber.
Code:
INSERT INTO table_candidate ( Cand_ID, Cand_forename, Cand_surname ) SELECT candidates.Cand_ID, candidates.Cand_forename, candidates.Cand_surname FROM candidates;
1. Is your append query trying to assign values to the primary key field? Could that be the source of the duplicate?
Yes but there are no duplicates
2. Do you have any other fields that are "Indexed: No Duplicates"? Any compound indexes?
No
3. Is the query assigning values to a field that is a foreign key to another table? Is it possible that these values do not match the values in that other table?
No. All child tables are empty.
4. Is there a validation rule on the table itself?
What this means.
5. Does the query attempt to assign a string with no characters in it (as opposed to a Null value) to a text field that has its Allow Zero Length property set to No?
Both fields are text and all records contain information
Required = No Zero length = Yes
6. Is there a Default Value in one of the fields that is NOT being assigned by the query? For example, a foreign key with zero as the Default Value?
No
7. Is there data that is outside the range a field can accept, e.g. an integer larger than 32767, or a Null to a Yes/No field?
The length of the text in each record is not greater than the set limit
8. Is one of the query fields arriving in a format that Access is not understanding, e.g. for a date, or for a currency?
Hey I have a little problem, I have this assignment for school to make a simple database, I did all that but there's one little thing I can't seem to find. I have to limit a Field's length to 15, but not through Field Size but thanks to a validation rule, and since I don't know a lot of validation rule commands I have no idea what the syntax is for the field length. How can I do this, it's pretty urgent actually, need to have this by tomorrow :s Thanks!
Relatively new to access, just trying to create a range in a validation rule. What I have are 2 cells, Date_Taken and Date_Returned. I want Date_Returned to only accept values between: Date_Taken and equal to or less than the current date.
Between "Date_Taken" And <=Now()
is what I've got at the mo', yet it's not working. I'm gathering that I'm referring to the Date_Taken cell incorrectly. Any help? I don't see any tools to fix such a thing.
Hey guys, what is the easiest way to validate a field based on another.
I have 2 combo box, lets say cboOne and cboTwo. If cboOne = 1 then cboTwo must be blank/Null. Can I place this validation in the table validation properties. If so, how do I word the validation code.
Hi,I'm really struggling to try and find a solution to a problem.I need to find a validation rule that only accepts:letters, spaces and hyphens (-) in the field.I have tried for at least 14 hours today and most of yesterday afternoon, but I just can't get it.The furthest I've got is rejecting everything except from letters and spaces, with each these codes individually:(I've only listed a few so you could see just a fraction of what I'd already tried)Is Null Or Not Like "*[!((a-z) or (Chr(32),Chr(45)))]*"Is Null Or Not Like "*[!((a-z) or (Chr(32)) or (Chr(45)))]*"Is Null Or Not Like "*[!((a-z) and (Chr(32)) and (Chr(45)))]*"Is Null OR Not Like "*[!((a-z) or (( ),(-)))]*"Is Null OR Not Like "*[!((a-z) or ( ) or (-)))]*"Is Null OR Not Like "*[!((a-z) and ( ) and (-)))]*"Is Null Or Not Like "*[!((a-z), ,-)]*"However, it is also rejecting hyphens, which I need it to accept. Also, unfortunately it is accepting bracketsHopefully someone here will have a solution, because I'm stumped, :confused:James
Question about validation rules. I have a user who has set up a validation rule to allow certain values to be entered.
Something like if the value equals 4 or equals 5 then it would accept it. Now she would like the validation be set so they can put both 4 and 5 in together. How can this be done?
What would be the 'validation rule' to input into the properties window for a Client ID? - (validation rule would make sure that none of the Client ID's are the same). ;)
Table: TRANSACTIONS Field: DATE Field: AMOUNT Field: loads more...
What I want is a validation rule on the AMOUNT field, which says that the data entered cannot be greater than the number in the PARM1 field. I can't get this to work, and I reckon it's becuase there's one record in the PARAMETERS table, but lots in TRANSACTIONS. In solving this problem I do not want to add any more records to PARAMETERS. The idea of that table is that it is an easy way to customise the database, not a way of storing data. I've putting this in the validation rule box (but it didn't work): =<Tables![PARAMETERS]![PARM1]
hi i am new to access but i am trying my hands on it...i have a problem:i want to put some validation rule(constraints) on a field in the table such that user can only able to enter only 10 digit number and even if that number starts form "0" then it shows the starting zeros without concatenation.for ex if user put 0681482803 then it should not convert back to 681482803also one more thing i want to ask what is the best Field size for 10 digit number.. as long integer doesn't fulfill the requirement and double is very large
I have a form that records a unique number which requires a full stop to be present. Is there anyway of ensuring a user has to enter a "." somewhere in this box?
I almost read all posts about validation rules and I cant find solution for my problem. I want to set that users must enter 13 numbers no more no less in form field, and if this condition is not satisfy I want to give warning to users with pop up massage. Is it posible to make with validation rule or I must use code.
Hello can anyone help me I am trying to make a validation rule for a field. It needs to be Between 0 And 28 OR "NA". When I use this in the validation property it works for the numbers and text but if you input say NJ or any other combination it issues a message box saying cannot evaluate the constraint, check Validation rules. Am I missing some important syntax or something. Any help gratefully appreciated. Barry
I want to restrict data entry to a three letter code. It must be letters and not numbers. I am entering the rule at table level so that should I pass the db onto someone else the rule remains in place even if somebody creates a new user interface. Thank you
Here is a really simple question for someone who knows the answer, lol.
I want to enter a statement on my form that prevents the entry of specific text based on a previous entry.
For example:
One field named "Make" may have the entry "Toyota". If Toyota is typed in that field then the next field named "Model" must return an error message if someone types in Malibu.
