Queries :: Building Crosstab For Logic To Evaluate 2 Columns

Jul 17, 2013

Record Primary Key: ID_Wells..The TxtFedStCo has Fed, St, Co, ... in one field - and a Dt_Apd_Sub (date submitted) .There can be zero or many dates submitted for each Fed or State.

Objective:
If
A Fed has (1 or many) date submitted
AND
A St has (1 or many) date submitted
Condition is TRUE

How do I get to the next step? The reason for doing this in SQL is to prototype in Access, then move this over to TSQL later.

Queries :: Crosstab To Convert Rows To Columns

Sep 16, 2014

I have data like:

Code:

SubjectID VisitID VisitNum VisitDate VisitDetail Rspns
1 5 1 2/10/2001 Fever_1 Yes
1 5 1 2/10/2001 Age_1 12
2 7 1 5/08/2010 Fever_1 No
2 7 1 5/08/2010 Age_1 18
2 8 2 9/30/2010 Fever_2 Yes
2 8 2 9/30/2010 Age_2 18
etc.

I need to convert it to a non-normalized wide format, like this:

Code:
SubjectID VisitDate_1 Fever_1 Age_1 VisitDate_2 Fever_2 Age_2
1 2/10/2001 Yes 12
2 5/08/2010 No 18 9/30/2010 Yes 18
etc.

If I didn't have to worry about the VisitDate, a simple crosstab would do the trick:

Code:
TRANSFORM First(MyTable.Rspns) AS FirstOfRspns
SELECT MyTable.PatientID
FROM MyTable
GROUP BY MyTable.PatientID
PIVOT MyTable.VisitDetail;

Queries :: Crosstab Query - Formatting User Defined Columns

Jul 24, 2013

I am making a classic sales over time crosstab query.

Rows: Customers
Columns: Sale months

Sales date is defined by the ETD of the order.

However, with the simple Format([ETD],"yyyy-mm") I get regular months, but I need to adjust the months to be between the 21st and 20th rather than 1st to 31st(30th).

August would be 7/21/2013 to 8/20/2013
September 8/21/2013 to 9/20/2013

Is it possible to format the columns this way?

Queries :: Sort Crosstab Query Columns And Generate Report

Jul 28, 2015

This is a query, report and vba question. I'm using Ms Access 2007.

TABLE 1: projectname, activityname, totalhoursworked, employeename
TABLE 2: employeename, employeelevel
TABLE 3: employeelevel, rate

I created a select query to join the info that I need.

SELECT QUERY 1: projectname, activityname, employeename, totalhoursworked, rate, cost (calculated field (totalhoursworked*rate))

I have 2 crosstab queries.

CROSSTAB QRY 1: ROW (projectname, activityname) COLUMN (employeename) VALUE (totalhoursworked (summed))
CROSSTAB QRY 2: ROW (projectname, activityname) COLUMN (employeename) VALUE (cost (summed))

I then created a 2nd select query with inner joins to join both crosstab queries on similar fields (activity & projectname).

SELECT QUERY 2: projectname, activityname, employeename (totalhoursworked as value), employeename (calculatedcost as value)

It gives me this:

However, I want it like this:

Those employeename... refers to more employees being added after a period of time. Hence I want to know if I could use vba to generate a report every time a button is pressed on a form? I know how to link the form to the query.

Queries :: Fixed Heading Names In Crosstab With Dynamic Columns

Jul 3, 2014

I'm trying to run a query which fetches only the last 2 years of data for a given region from a table with several years worth of data (there are year, region, sector and rank columns among others). The region is passed into the query from a combobox from Form1.

The first problem was that some regions have up-to-date data and some not so much e.g. for Europe the "last 2 years" mean 2012,2013 for Asia its 2011,2012. In order to deal with this I've created a crosstab query which works well except for one thing - because the columns are dynamic (dependant on the region) the column headings change as well.

And here comes my question, how can i fix the column names to be e.g."Current Year" and "Prior Year" independent of the query fetching 2012,2013 or 2009,2010? I've tied different things with PIVOT... IN ... but with no luck.

Here's the sql for the query:

Code:

PARAMETERS [Forms]![Form1]![cmbRegion] Text ( 255 );
TRANSFORM min(DataTable.Rank)
SELECT DataTable.Region, DataTable.RegionalSector,
FROM DataTable
WHERE (((DataTable.Region)=Forms!Form1!cmbRegion))

[Code] ....

Queries :: Using Parameter Value To Evaluate Data?

Jan 23, 2014

I have query with a parameter [Category]. Based on this value i wish to select team data like if [Category]="Sale" then (team) in (1,9,5), if [Category]="Purchase" then (team)="7" else (team) in (1,9,5,7).

Both the fields team and category are from same table called 'rawdata'

Report displays the data datewise but it is grouping according to team,which is not what i required;

Date CntValues
12/1/2013 1 [team 1]
12/1/2013 3 [team 9]

output should be

12/1/2013 4

that is to avoid duplicate date values.

Queries :: Can't Evaluate Date In Text String

Apr 17, 2014

I'm working with a table of financial transactions. I need to know the date a record relating to cash received actually arrived in our bank, but the software doesn't allow the user to enter this, so I've asked them to enter it into a text reference field, e.g. 'Other Text XX 16/04/14', and then I've got a formula - CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)) - which takes the date from this reference.

This works fine, but it's really important I don't miss any of these records due to the date not being entered, so what I'm trying to make is a formula which will give me the date from the ref field as in the formula above if there is one, but if that formula gives an error (so the date has been missed out or incorrectly entered) then I want to take the date from another field, called [DateAdded] as a failsafe.

I can't work out a formula that won't give me an error, i've tried loads. First I tried :

iif(iserror(CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8))),[DateAdded],CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)))

But that gives an error, and I think from looking at forums that Access evaluates both parts of an Iif function so it'll do that.

It seems like other people are saying that you need to use Nz, IsDate or IsNumeric or something along those lines instead of IsError to evaluate the field, but I can't get that to work as it's not a field, it's a portion of a text field.

This is my latest attempt:

Join Date: IIf(IsDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)),[DateAdded],[Calc Date]),

where [Calc Date] is an expression field with CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)) in it, but there's the #Error again.

How can I use iif to pick either a date from a text string, or where that results in an error then another date field?

Queries :: Evaluate How Many Orders Were Open On Specific Day

Dec 12, 2013

Access 2010 project I am trying to develop for my workplace.

I want to be able to show a chart, a graph, of how many open orders we have had during the last month (showing per day) and during the last year (showing per months). In order to do this I am trying to create a set of queries that would provide me with such information in the form/structure;

[Date] [OpenOrdersTotal]
Yyyy-mm-dd 4
Yyyy-mm-dd 5
Yyyy-mm-dd 3
Yyyy-mm-dd 4

And after that I would create a chart I have
1. TblOrders
[OrderID] Autonum
[CaseID] Foreign primary key
[DepartmentID] Foreign primary key
[DateOrderMade] Date (yyyy-mm-dd)
[DateOrderAnswerd] date (yyyy-mm-dd)

2. TblDates
[ReportDate] Date (yyyy-mm-dd)

The evaluation in a query that runs all [ReportDate] logically would say;

Code:
Count(IIF([ReportDate] BETWEEN [DateOrderMade] AND [DATEORDERANSWERD]);1;0)

...but that wont do it.

I have attached a copy of the segment above ....

Queries :: DLookup Command And Evaluate Return Value For Null To Be Used To Control Program Flow

Apr 6, 2015

I have a search from that has an option group, text fields, and a checkbox where the users selects a variety of option that generates a query. If the query return at least on record a split form (form on top/datasheet on bottom) is displayed and the form has an Edit and Close button. If the query returns no records the form is still displayed except the buttons are not visible.

If I knew the result of the query and then made a decision whether to open the form or release control back to the search box that would be great. To open the form I am using VBA with the DoCmd.OpenForm(,,"MyQuery","criteria") command.I thought about using the DLookup command and evaluate the return value for null to be used to control the program flow.

CrossTab With Defined Columns

:D I am trying to create a CrossTab query from a table of expenses:

tblExpenses:
PropertyID
ExpenseType
Amount

There are many kinds of Expense Types. I want to use ExpenseType as the column header, BUT I want there to be 3 categories "Rent Expense," "Taxes," and "Other."

HOW do I group all expense types <> "Rent Expense" and "Taxes" in the third column?

I can get a comprehensive query with many columns, or set criteria to get just "Rent Expense" and "Taxes" columns, but I cannot get the 3 columns.

How can I do this? Thanks for your help!!

Creating Multiple / Sequential Crosstab Columns From One Field

Number of Operators per Permit

Permit
Operator Name
6
065-24088
EOG RESOURCES INC
6
065-24088
PDC MOUNTAINEER LLC

[code]....

I want to take this data and create six new columns (operator1; operator2; operator3; operator4; operator5; operator6) for each permit number so that each unique operator name will be housed in each of those six columns, with the rows being defined by the permit number. So, I want to produce something that looks like this...

Permit

operator1
operator2

[code]....

At present, there are as many as 6 operators per permit, but the number of operators per permit varies from 1 to 6. I included an example that has 5 operators, to show that I want the sixth column to be null in this instance. So if a permit had only one operator, only the operator1 field would take on a non-null value in the new table/query.I know how to do this with 2 operators per permit by using min/max or first/last functions in a query, but I don't know how to deal with more than two operators per permit.

Queries :: Automatically Building Reporting Database?

Sep 13, 2013

I want to build a database stored on a server which can be used by our employees as basis for their Excel pivot reporting

The idea is as follows:

I make a query that will get selected data (via odbc) from several Progress database tables of our ERP system and write them to one MS access table

The idea is to run each night at midnight a query (append or make table) via a schedule and gradually build a huge database table holding sales details

This table will be used as basis for the Excel pivot reporting .These reports are currently run directly on the ERP system's database which slows things down

Question:

1. Is it possible to automate the queries (perhaps via scheduler or 3rd party program ?

2. what would be better to use an append query that adds data or a maketable query which constantly replaces the data ?

3. How many ODBC connections on a MS Access database can I have at the same time ?

Queries :: Building Rating Scheme Query?

Jul 8, 2014

I currently have 2 tables in a database that I'm trying to build a query off of. The first table lists personnel & their position #s, and the second table has a column for "rated person", "rater", "senior rater" and "reviewer" which are all part of our annual evaluations. I'm trying to program the query to display the names of the person attached to a position #, but can only get the query to return the actual position #s.

I'm using the table to assign each position # appropriately, i.e. position # 10202 is rated by 10103 and senior rated by 10101; I do this with the lookup data type. Once each position # is assigned, I'd like the query to display the name of the personnel instead of the position #, i.e. when queried, it would return under the rater column JOHN SMITH instead of 10202, and in the senior rater column JOHN JONES instead of 10103, etc.

Now I need to create a query so that I can create a report on each employee separately. The query will not let me get the Employee Frist Name/ID from that saved field. I thought that what is saves in that field, you can retrieve it in your queries or reports.

Queries :: Method For Combining Crosstab Queries With Same Criteria From Multiple Fields?

Each field is searching for the same values just in different columns, with the end goal being to get the sum of the values for each pivoted column. What I am trying to do in coding is to evaluate whether or not the closed date is before the open date. If the date closed is before the date open I would like a message box to open that prevents the user from moving forward and reminding them that the date closed is earlier than the date open. Is it possible with the vbCalendar option being able to change its focus continually.
