I'm working with a table of financial transactions. I need to know the date a record relating to cash received actually arrived in our bank, but the software doesn't allow the user to enter this, so I've asked them to enter it into a text reference field, e.g. 'Other Text XX 16/04/14', and then I've got a formula - CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)) - which takes the date from this reference.
This works fine, but it's really important I don't miss any of these records due to the date not being entered, so what I'm trying to make is a formula which will give me the date from the ref field as in the formula above if there is one, but if that formula gives an error (so the date has been missed out or incorrectly entered) then I want to take the date from another field, called [DateAdded] as a failsafe.
I can't work out a formula that won't give me an error, i've tried loads. First I tried :
But that gives an error, and I think from looking at forums that Access evaluates both parts of an Iif function so it'll do that.
It seems like other people are saying that you need to use Nz, IsDate or IsNumeric or something along those lines instead of IsError to evaluate the field, but I can't get that to work as it's not a field, it's a portion of a text field.
Hi there. I'm just jumping into Access and have the following question. In my Purchase Order Table, I have a date field calcualated as text, i.e. "01/12/04". I need to convert this to a date format in my queries so I can do calculations, i.e. 01/12/04 - 01/05/04 = 7 days. Can someone help me with how to convert this text date to a date format. Sorry if this is an easy question. - AJS
I have query with a parameter [Category]. Based on this value i wish to select team data like if [Category]="Sale" then (team) in (1,9,5), if [Category]="Purchase" then (team)="7" else (team) in (1,9,5,7).
Both the fields team and category are from same table called 'rawdata'
Report displays the data datewise but it is grouping according to team,which is not what i required;

Access 2010 project I am trying to develop for my workplace.
I want to be able to show a chart, a graph, of how many open orders we have had during the last month (showing per day) and during the last year (showing per months). In order to do this I am trying to create a set of queries that would provide me with such information in the form/structure;
And after that I would create a chart I have 1. TblOrders [OrderID] Autonum [CaseID] Foreign primary key [DepartmentID] Foreign primary key [DateOrderMade] Date (yyyy-mm-dd) [DateOrderAnswerd] date (yyyy-mm-dd)
2. TblDates [ReportDate] Date (yyyy-mm-dd)
The evaluation in a query that runs all [ReportDate] logically would say;
Code: Count(IIF([ReportDate] BETWEEN [DateOrderMade] AND [DATEORDERANSWERD]);1;0)
Record Primary Key: ID_Wells..The TxtFedStCo has Fed, St, Co, ... in one field - and a Dt_Apd_Sub (date submitted) .There can be zero or many dates submitted for each Fed or State.
Objective: If A Fed has (1 or many) date submitted AND A St has (1 or many) date submitted Condition is TRUE
How do I get to the next step? The reason for doing this in SQL is to prototype in Access, then move this over to TSQL later.
I have a text field in a Table and on a Query called "Notes" In that field that has data like below:

Im trying to find a way to pull just the most recent line of text, in this case
[04/02/2015:BD] Project is to be assessed by Solutions Planning
into the field next to "Notes" or wherever - an empty field in the query. I searched around, found some stuff and I was thinking of having the code look at the first "[" and count the length to the next "[" and pull out whats in between. Looks like the bracket causes issues in the module.
I need to find a way to search through all of the queries in my Access 2007 database to change the names of more than a few variables. There are close to 900 queries I need to search through many of which may use the variables as criteria, so if I miss even 1 instance I might screw myself completely.
I found this post and it tells me exactly what I need to do. Only problem is the post was written in 2002, and I've followed the below instructions only to have it not work.

The following code is attached to a command button on a simple form listing all queries in the database. The record source for the form is

There is a text box where the user enters the text to search for. The code builds a table containing the SQL string of every query, then searches for the required text, and displays those that match.
Your form also needs a procedure the set the record source back to the default.
There are off-the-shelf applications such as Speed Ferret which perform this sort of function, however some employers are too cheap to purchase them!

In my query I want to extract the last 10 characters of a string in a column which represent a date in the format DD.MM.YY and then convert these to a real date format to be available for further processing.
My query looks like this:

But Access gives an error message "unknown function 'CONVERT'"
The "RIGHT" functions works but the resulting column is not being recognized as a date, it is a only a string and therefore useless for processing of any date related calculation.
I have a search from that has an option group, text fields, and a checkbox where the users selects a variety of option that generates a query. If the query return at least on record a split form (form on top/datasheet on bottom) is displayed and the form has an Edit and Close button. If the query returns no records the form is still displayed except the buttons are not visible.
If I knew the result of the query and then made a decision whether to open the form or release control back to the search box that would be great. To open the form I am using VBA with the DoCmd.OpenForm(,,"MyQuery","criteria") command.I thought about using the DLookup command and evaluate the return value for null to be used to control the program flow.
I have a form where I want a textbox [txtMaxOrdLimit] to be visible only if another text box on the same form [PaNumber] contains the letter D in the string. This is the code I have on the forms On Current property but I'm missing something because textbox [txtMaxOrdLimit] doesn't show on the form at all.

In the record I have a TEXT record called [GI1] that can have a multitude of data in it. The data can be EVA, CON 10/12/06, REQ 10/12/06, PAS 10/12/06, or B 10/12/06, and finally A 10/12/06
What I need is a query will look at the Data that starts with B and change the letter to A if the date in the record has passed. {The Date can be any date in any year }
I'm trying to create a query that will convert the text fields that have dates in them to dates. I cannot change the table this is linked to, our group does not own it. I tried doing a cdate() on it, and it displays the test as a date. But then when I try to run a query based off of this one, to give me inbetween dates it returns all dates as if it is a text. I know my second query works, because I copy the table and changed the text to date fields and it works then.
Someone decided to be clever and send a text file with a stupid date format, is it possible to show off a little here and get a working date format, it's a text file I am working with: Dec 18 2014 01:12PM.

I have a table ("tbl_idq_all") with a text field for product codes ("scode"), a date field (dd/mm/yyyy) and a quantity field ("po_qty"). This table therefore holds future receipts of stock for products.
What I am having trouble doing is create a running total of [po_qty] based on [scode] and [Date].
A good example is stock code 10254. This has a quantity of 40,032 arriving 01/06/2013 and a quantity of 30,096 arriving 01/09/2013.

I type a value in my [txtBox], a number. I want to evaluate if the typed value meets the condition or not. [SNum] is serially numbered and [RecID] is autonumber Primary Key. The above code is not working. How do I achieve this? Please help.
I have a text box named "scheduled_start" on my "JobsF" form.
Now what I'm trying to do is use two append query's to move the start date contained within the text box.
*The first append query will be on the before update and put this date in the "notesT" in the "old_date" field. *The second append query will be on the After update and put this date in the "notesT" in the "New_date" field.
I'm trying to track date changes and this part of the process isn't working. For a start I don't know how to run the query on an event. I can open the query using 'openquery' but I don't wish to open it. Re query is also an option but the query I made isn't listed when that's selected.
I have a link table that has a field that represents dates - but they are actually just text. It's a long story but the source is not going to change - so I have to try and deal with it. I need it to behave as a date - and am hoping to do this in a query. The data looks like this:
