SQL does not copy the field (autonumber) of table1 to another field (number longue) of table2. Is this normal and is there a way around it? Here is the code:
Code:
"INSERT INTO TransUPDSHTbl SELECT TranSHTbl.MemID, TransSHTbl.FirstName, " & _
" TransSHTbl.LastName, " & _
" TransSHTbl.Language, TransSHTbl.Email, TransSHTbl.Federation " & _
" FROM TransSHTbl " & _
" INNER JOIN MembersTbl ON ((TransSHTbl.LastName = MembersTbl.NOM) AND " & _
" (TransSHTbl.FirstName = MembersTbl.PRENOM)) ORDER BY MembersTbl.MemID;"
I need to make changes to a table already containing data. Currently the autonumber field is simply there as a primary key, but I now wish to use it for another number field (Accession No) which was previously completed manually.
As this doesn't seem possible or practical (as I need the flexibility to overwrite the number sometimes), I just want the autonumber to also appear in the Accesion No field when a new record is added (but be manually overwriteable).
I've had a play with default values and lookups, but with no success, and haven't found anything on the forum. Where am I going wrong, or is this just not possible?
I don't know if this is possible or not. I know you can assign your own autonumber by working w/ an append query. But my question is, if I have a number that is 1.0 - can I change the 10th spot after the decimal? I tried it myself w/ the append query but it changes the 1 to a 2.0. Is there a way to do that?
My next question is - I know there is a copyobject. I want to be able to click on a button, & it copies a form. BUT, you have to enter either a destination for the form or a new name for the form. But the problem is, I want to keep the current destination and the form name will change each time there is a new form created. Is there a way to have something pop up for me to rename the form?
I have a an 'Orders' table that records order details which has the order number field set as an autonumber. I also have a number of other tables which provide additional details for each particular order (eg Address details, invoice history etc) These each have a 1 to 1 relationship with the 'Orders' table. This has all been working fine for some time but having just added a new order the order number has jump from 10135 to 10137! For some reason it missed out 10136.
Any ideas why and what I need to do? If I create a new table based on the structure of the existing one then append the records to it won't I still have the same problem?
I have a table with a compound key, and one of the two fields in the compound key has to start at 100 and finish at 999 and I'd like it so that each number didn't have to be typed in individually.
So I thought about using an autonumber that somehow starts at 100 but doesn't go over 999 if thats possible? Or if you have any other ideas on how I could achieve this? Thanks
Hi :) I have solved a m:n relationship by adding a junction table. The composite primary key in the junction table is made up of primary keys from the other two tables, and both of theses primary keys are set to autonumber.
My question is this: Is it correct to set both parts f the composite key in he junction table to number rather than autonumber? I was thinking that since autonumber should be set only once, the junction table should just take on what ever value there is in the primary keys of the other two tables.

i am going to use the autonumber as an order number but I want " SC2015 in front of it so i end up with " sc20151 , sc20152 but next year i want it to change the year SC201650 .how to put the sc2015 in my report without any input from the user
I create autonumber as primary key in a table, then i tried to enter a record in that table. Then i deleted it, but when i enter a new record, auto number started with the next number. Ex: i enter a record and autonumber for it is 1. I deleted this record and entered a new record, but i found autonumber is 2. I want the number is 1,
Auto number will not work for what I want to do. I am creating a simple database that will assign the user with the next incremental number in a field. The intent of the database is for the user to enter three text fields and then obtain the number. I believe that Dmax would work but do not know how to make populate the table.
Is it possible or not but Iany way to set up a number field to autonumber on reviews of an application.
To elaborate I have a review table linked to the primary application table. The pk on the review table will be an actual autonumber to list all the reviews ever to happen in the database. There will be multiple reviews on one application and there will be a review number for each review (1, 2, 3, etc...). Is it possible to set up as a 'number' field that will add the next review # for that particular application, and then start again at 1 for the next application?
I have a table with an autonumber field, which of course is indexed with no duplicates. Twice in recent days it has attempted to add a record with an autonumber that is not the high number - it is about 20 numbers below the high number. So we get a 'can't add this record' error.
I can fix this by copying the table to a temporary table and then copying it it back. Then the autonumber works correctly.
What can I do to prevent this? By the way we updated to Access 2010 a couple of weeks ago, but the data is still Access 2003. We are reluctant to update the data yet in case it causes more problems.
Table 1 (StaffID) - contains all personal details in the form of forename + surname + position + email + contact numbers ect. Each field/person has an autonumber.
Table 2 (StaffTrainingID) - contains all mandatory training/lectures (18 fields in total). I don't wish to list each staff member again in table 2 so have put a StaffID field in (data type is number).
However, when I try to type in the StaffID number in that field so I can link that person to the relevant training he/she has taken, Access won't allow it.
I have made a database for a repair workshop, where you book in and book out repairs.
I am having a problem as we need to make a Dispatch Note daily with a list of all booked out repairs for that day and for that branch.
This is all working so far. However, we need to generate a reference number using AutoNumber (Wshop0001, Wshop0002, etc) and keep a record of this - how can this be done with keeping ONE reference number per day per branch?
So I have decided that I want my ID's to be AutoNumbers, but at the moment they are currently set as Numbers. I have already inserted data, to test, which has been deleted, however I am now unable to change the ID field back to AutoNumber.
How can I duplicate the tables so that this field can be changed again?
I have like 10 tables with heaps of feild, so remaking them will take long, but I know there is a way using queries, I am just not sure how...
I have "Master" table with fields "Job No" and "Revision No". Both together is a primary key, so that combination of both cannot be duplicated. I have 100 other tables to be related with referential integrity(+update&delete) to Master for both fields. Apart from Job No and Revision No, all 100 tables have different set of fields which is why I had to come with so many tables.
Due to 32 limit rule, I had to come up with workaround method to have all 100 tables in the relationship. So, I created 5 other SubMaster1, SubMaster2, ...., SubMaster5 which are related to Master with relationship with referential integrity (+update&delete). Then I assigned 20 tables to each SubMaster so that 20 tables are related to each SubMaster table.
Whenever I create new record in Unit, the new record is generated in each SubMaster using update query for each SubMaster table. I have all the forms and necessary query laid out. The only missing part is being able to duplicate a record. I have limited knowledge in VBA, but I should be able to modify it to address to my requirement.
I want to copy a given record in Master, SubMasters and 100 tables as a new record. I need this feature so that I can select certain Job No and Revision No and copy that as a new Job No(assigned manually in a form) and 0 as the revision number. Possibly a button which will ask for new job number and copy everything from the active Job No and Revision No to a New Job No and "0" Revision No. The existing record may not be there on all 100 tables for the given Job No and Revision No. If it is there, then copy otherwise ignore for each of the tables.
I have a table "ItemList" which lists all the unique name of the 100 tables.
I am using following code to copy low value from Access table to excel file, but only to find that it changed in excel file. How should I do to not change that?
ThisWorkbook.Sheets("EV Data").Cells(row + 2, col + 2) = _ rs.Fields(col).Value
Is it possible to copy a record 'n' number of times, incrementing the date by either days, months, weeks etc?
I have a regular payments table that will need to be edited at some point should either dates, or amounts change, but... regardless of the size of the table, it's not a problem, as these will be moved to a different table and deleted once paid.
Given the example, would it be possible to copy this record and additional 5 times, incrementing the date by one week.
I would like to be able to copy a single record in a table and then paste this record a pre-defined number of times 10,20,30 depending on requirements. The reason I need to do this is that I want to set up a number of identical records that can easily be amended into unique records. This will vastly reduce the amount of work and time spent entering records individually.
The only way that I have been able to achieve this is to copy and transfer the master record into Excel, and then copy the row and paste it into a range of cells. Copy the range of cells back from Excel and then paste this range back into the Access table.
This works but is long winded; what I would like to know is is there a simply way of achieving this.
I would like to do a loop but never done one before, basically i want to copy the current record by the number of times specified in a quantity field
So if the quantity field in the record says 5 then copy that record 5 times (I have managed to create the copy and paste code but dont know how to make it do it 5 times
I have two tables linked to each other in one to many relationship. Instead of auto number, the date and shift (Text) is being used as the primary keys (Composite Primary Key). Here is the tables structures,
The tables Payouts and Bills has one to many relationship. One payout row can have many bills. The problem is that I want to start the Autonumber in bills table everyday from 1. As date and shift are different for every day so even if i start bills from 1 everyday, it wont make same primary key. I can do it manually but I want to make it automatically.
I have 4 different sites with their own data source and have created 33 Queries for the first site. Is there a way I can copy the queries to the other sites instead of recreating them manually? All sites have their own data that is in the same format. All the information is in the same format and similar (different amounts, dates, but all in amount and date fields), they are named differently corresponding to their sites.
This is something I occasionally see in Access and has been bugging me for quite a while.
As an example, when I have a table (all text fields except for the ID field which is an Autonumber with a unique index - ie just what Access creates when you import data) and I try to make a new table from a query by indexing the Autonumber field in descending order (ie to reverse the order of the table), it doesn't work properly.
So if I have:
SELECT [mytable].* INTO [mytable sorted] FROM [mytable] ORDER BY [mytable].[ID] DESC;
When I preview the data (ie run the select query to have a look at it), it looks fine.
When I change the query to a 'Make Table' and I then I check the table it makes, the order changes part-way down the list, so looking at the ID field it runs from number 2669 down to 2087 correctly, then it goes from 1960 to 1956, then 1803 to 1799, then 1751 to 1747, etc etc etc. After a while it seems to correct itself again, and orders normally down to #1
