Queries :: Convert Text To Date
Jul 10, 2013How do I convert '130330' to date in Access? I want to convert to 03/30/13?
View RepliesHow do I convert '130330' to date in Access? I want to convert to 03/30/13?
View RepliesI have a table in access database which contains a text field 'EDate' that stores Date value in format (12-Apr-2013). Now I want to run a sql query on that field. User will give an input date. The sql query needs to fetch me all the records from access database whose Edate is less than or equal to the user input date.
I am using DateValue function to convert my text filed Edate into date. My query is something like this:
select * from table_name where DateValue(EDate)<='user_input_date'
I am able to perform above task if the system language settings are 'English'. But if system language settings are different say Turkish, then the query fails.
I searched a lot on web and found that DateTime function compares test data with the system date time format and gives the result. Thus it fails with different language settings.
Morning All,
In a table I have a text field (Meeting Date) which contains the date in the format: "Wednesday 22 March 2006"
How do I convert this to a date of format dd/mm/yyyy?
I have created another field of type date called MDate, in the same table, and have tried experimenting with an update query.
CDate(Left([Meeting Date],4) & "/" & Mid([Meeting Date],5,2) & "/" & Right([Meeting Date],2))
But this has not worked. (If someone could explain the significance of the numbers in the function that would be helpful also - Access help did not provide this information)
Hi, I get the user input from a text box in a form, then i use it in the query.
in my query i used the DateDiff function in the expression. should I convert the data type from string (the user input from the text box) to date type first before using the DateDiff function?
in the SQL view, I wrote the following, but it says incorrect:
SELECT availability.machineName,
(DateDiff("d",CDate(Forms!frmMain!txtStartDate),CDate(Forms!frm Main!txtEndDate))+1)*24 AS totalMonthlyHours, availability.type
FROM availability
WHERE (availability.date)>=CDate(Forms!frmMain!txtStartDate) And (availability.date)<=CDate(forms!frmMain!txtEndDate)
GROUP BY availability.machineName, availability.type;
Thanks in advance.
I have a linked database that stores date values as YYMM in text format. I have no control over how that information is kept. I cant seem to find a way to convert YYMM text to date format. Additionally I would like to add the last day of the respective month to that data.

In the table there is a date time stamp - format data type text:
20130225060621
I would like to convert so that it is recognised as a date so I can calculate against e.g. Now() or another standard date format.
this is what I am currently using (which is OK) BUT I need to calculate against the time also.
Current Check Point Date: CDate(Mid([DZ_ZPKT_AK],7,2) & "/" & Mid([DZ_ZPKT_AK],5,2) & "/" & Mid([DZ_ZPKT_AK],1,4))
I spoke to an IT guy who works in TOAD program and he gave me this SQL:

how to convert number date to text date.
Ex. Date field: 02/12/2015
convert into:
Month field
February
Day Field
12
Year
2015
Select * from Table where CDate(CStr(Nz(AnnouncementDate,0))) >=CDate(10-10-2014) and CDate(CStr(Nz(AnnouncementDate,0))) <= CDate(01-10-2014);
Here AnnouncementDate Column is Short Text
It gives me a type mismatch error..
I have an ms access Database(2013 version). There are about 10000 records. There are some columns with field property of "short text" but contains the values like that 0.4,7, 9.0 etc I would like to convert the "short text" into "double" without loosing information.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my query I want to extract the last 10 characters of a string in a column which represent a date in the format DD.MM.YY and then convert these to a real date format to be available for further processing.
My query looks like this:
SELECT Angebotskopf.[Laufende Nummer], Angebotskopf.Angebotsnummer, Angebotskopf.Angebotsdatum, Angebotskopf.Anfragedatum, Angebotskopf.Kunde, Angebotskopf.Ansprechpartner, Angebotskopf.Telefonnummer, Angebotskopf.Faxnummer, Angebotskopf.Projekt, Angebotskopf.Preis, CONVERT(varchar(10), RIGHT(Angebotskopf.Projekt, 8),104) AS TestAngebot
FROM Angebotskopf;
But Access gives an error message "unknown function 'CONVERT'"
The "RIGHT" functions works but the resulting column is not being recognized as a date, it is a only a string and therefore useless for processing of any date related calculation.
Using Access 2010 and ODBC connections to pull data from 3 sources (SQL Server 2008, a customized Documentum application, and Windows AD accounts). Problem is user_login_name is sometimes recorded as lowercase, sometimes as propercase, and sometimes as uppercase depending on which table or source being used. For example, lowercase would be "abcd123", propercase would be "Abcd123", and uppercase would be "ABCD123". I thought I could just wrap each join comparison in the From stmt in the query(s) with the UCase() function, but Access doesn't like that.
How can I convert or cast the various user_login_names within the FROM join statement to be the same text case so joins will pull correct data?
Is it possible to easily convert 02/02/2015 15:30:00 to 201502021530 in a query?
View 4 Replies View RelatedTrying to import some data from a linked Excel spreadsheet into a local table. One of the fields is a Date/Time type and is recorded in EST (Eastern Standard Time). I want to keep this field for posterity but also add a separate field with the corresponding time as per BST
For clarity, daylight savings time comes into effect this year on 26th Oct in the UK and 2nd Nov in the US. So generally, there is a 5 hour difference between the two time zones, apart from the period between these two dates, when it is only 4 hours.Here is my query - I am using a SWITCH function to create the BST field
Code:
INSERT INTO tblTransactions
SELECT ltbPayments.ID AS Reference, ltbPayments.VALUEDATE AS ValueDate, ltbPayments.LOCALAMOUNT AS Amount, ltbPayments.USDAMOUNT AS AmountUSD, tblAccounts.AccountID AS AccountID, ltbPayments.TRANSACTIONTIME AS TransactionTimeEST,
SWITCH(DateValue(ltbPayments.TRANSACTIONTIME) < DateSerial(2014,10,26) Or DateValue(ltbPayments.TRANSACTIONTIME) >= DateSerial(2014,11,2),
[code]....
So - how do I explicitly specify the output of the SWITCH function to be in Date/Time format (I presume, by default, it's returning Text, which contradicts the table properties of tblTransactions & the TransactionTimeBST field?...)
I have 2 columns that are listed as such:
AssumptionMo AssumptionYr
MAY 2014
JUN 2015
JUL 2015
OCT 2016
I need to create a field called AssumpDate that converts the month into a date field on the 1st day of the month. ex May 2014 needs to read 5/1/2014. When I use the expression AssumpDate: DateValue("1-" & [Assumption_Month] & "-" & Year(Date())) of course the year changes to the current one--2015. How can I I change the expression so that the year is based on the AssumptionYr column?

Hiya All
Hope you can help me here
I need help with an update query that will change records for me based on the date
In the record I have a TEXT record called [GI1] that can have a multitude of data in it.
The data can be “EVA”, “CON 10/12/06”, “REQ 10/12/06”, “PAS 10/12/06”, or “B 10/12/06”, and finally “A 10/12/06”
What I need is a query will look at the Data that starts with “B” and change the letter to “A” if the date in the record has passed. {The Date can be any date in any year }
Many Thanks for Looking

I'm working with a table of financial transactions. I need to know the date a record relating to cash received actually arrived in our bank, but the software doesn't allow the user to enter this, so I've asked them to enter it into a text reference field, e.g. 'Other Text XX 16/04/14', and then I've got a formula - CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)) - which takes the date from this reference.
This works fine, but it's really important I don't miss any of these records due to the date not being entered, so what I'm trying to make is a formula which will give me the date from the ref field as in the formula above if there is one, but if that formula gives an error (so the date has been missed out or incorrectly entered) then I want to take the date from another field, called [DateAdded] as a failsafe.
I can't work out a formula that won't give me an error, i've tried loads. First I tried :
iif(iserror(CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8))),[DateAdded],CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)))
But that gives an error, and I think from looking at forums that Access evaluates both parts of an Iif function so it'll do that.
It seems like other people are saying that you need to use Nz, IsDate or IsNumeric or something along those lines instead of IsError to evaluate the field, but I can't get that to work as it's not a field, it's a portion of a text field.
This is my latest attempt:
Join Date: IIf(IsDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)),[DateAdded],[Calc Date]),
where [Calc Date] is an expression field with CDate(Right(Trim([RefField]),8)) in it, but there's the #Error again.
How can I use iif to pick either a date from a text string, or where that results in an error then another date field?
I'm trying to create a query that will convert the text fields that have dates in them to dates. I cannot change the table this is linked to, our group does not own it. I tried doing a cdate() on it, and it displays the test as a date. But then when I try to run a query based off of this one, to give me inbetween dates it returns all dates as if it is a text. I know my second query works, because I copy the table and changed the text to date fields and it works then.

Hello, I have a Field in a Table called Fund Codes and they are entered as text: 1, 2, 3, 4 all the way to 1000. Now i need to find away to change 1 to 001, 2 to 002, 3 to 003, 10 to 010, but leave 100 as 100 and 222 as 222, so only add 0s to numbers from 1 to 99. Is there a way to do it? I know i can change the text to numbers and use format to do that, but i need to leave it as text. Please help. Many thanks!
