Queries :: Copying / Updating Data From A Database Table To Another

Jul 28, 2014

I have a MS Access table containing Dependent social security numbers but some of the dependents social security numbers are blank.

I have a MS Sql Database that contains a table with most of the missing MS Access table dependents Social Security numbers.

How can I take the Dependents social security number from MS Sql Database and copy/update the MS Access table.

I tried the sql code below created from MS Access and it matches 453 records out of 460 dependent social security numbers but how do I update qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN with the social security number from dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn

Code:

SELECT dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn, qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN
FROM qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN LEFT JOIN dbo_depfile1 ON qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.MemberSSN = dbo_depfile1.dep_ss_nbr
WHERE (((dbo_depfile1.dep_first)=[FirstName]) AND ((dbo_depfile1.dep_last)=[LastName]));

Updating MS Access table dependent blank SSNs with SSN in MS Sql Database.

Copying Data In One Table To Another-how To?

Jan 12, 2007

Hi:
I am looking for some guidance in doing the following:
I have a tableO that contains a list of objects that have associated attributes, specifically a list of system_names (object) and the associated attributes (additional fields in the table) that include port_name, port_direction. Think of each one of the records as a template that will supply data to another table, called the Instance table (tableI). The concept is that the user can populate the template with various objects and associated ports, and direction.
The table cols are;
PK|FK|system_name|port_name|port_direction|

The data for this table is manually entered via an associated form.

At some later time, the user want to make a copy of an object(e.g. a record in tableO) by populating Table I (the instance table). The first few fields of tableI are named identical to tableO. Table I contains additional fields that further refine the template, by adding a object_property field, and a port_direction_property field.
Table I looks like:
PK|FK|system_name|port_name|port_direction|prop1|p rop2

The forms interface allows the user to fill in the fields in the TableI (intance table) directly, or, lets the user scroll through the list of objects in the template table, and chose a template, copy the fields:system_name|port_name|port_direction into the same fields in table I, and then add values to prop1 and prop 2 manually.

I made the combo box control that will list the objects from the object column of the template table (table O) and make the desired selection. I have a radio button adjacent to the combo box that when clicked, will copy the selected record and designated fields from the template object table (tableO), into the same fields of the instance table (table I). The instance table is displayed on an adjacent form.

After the fields are copied to the instance table, the user can type in the data into the additional fields (e.g. prop_1, prop_2), and complete the record.

I do not know how I can do the 'copy' from tableO to table I when the radio button is pushed. I know to allow an action when the radiobutton is 'clicked'. Table O and tableI are not currently related.

Can you provide some guidance?
Thanks a lot for your time
J

Copying Data From One Table To Another..

Dec 13, 2007

Hi,

I'm looking to include a button on a form that opens a new entry in another table and copies some field entries from the first table into the second table. I tried an append query, but it seems to be unable to be displayed in a form. I just want to copy data from one form to another. Thanks.

Tables :: Normalize Existing Table Containing Data And Copying PK Value To FK In New Table

Nov 21, 2014

I am working from an existing database which is just two table. The main table has a massive amount of redundancy and duplication and needs splitting into, at first glance, 5 tables.

After I have run my various make table queries and added a Primary Key and FK field to the new tables how do I populate the FK with the Parent PK.

I thought I could simply add all the fields from the new table and then create an adhoc join in an update query to populate the PK to the FK. When I do this however I get "You are about to update 0 records"

I have tried the table analyzer but it doesn't give the correct options to split the table the way I need.

Not all fields have data is there a way to put a space between each of the current fields when merged as well?

Copying Data From One Table To Another (two Files)?

Jan 30, 2012

I have two identical access databases. I copied the master file to my desktop to work on it while someone else was in the shared file. I edited about a hundred rows in the Data Entry table (the records exist in both files), and now I want to copy those changes back over to the master file without messing up any of the other data. I'm not sure what the other people changed in the file, I just know what records I have that need to be copied over. Again, they exist in both files, I just want to overwrite the records in the other file with my updated records without affecting other data.

Copying Data From A Linked Subform To A New Table

Dec 3, 2005

I have linked a SQL table to my ms access database. In order to view the SQL table as read-only and still be able to update the access table I have setup a form with a subform.
I know it would be a dublication of data but is there a way thru code of copying the data on the subform to my access table. I was hoping I could put a button on the form that would copy this data. My idea is after the copy is done all the information I need will be in my access table. I'm new to this linking idea and am worried I will only have half the information I need if the link breaks etc.
Thanks

Queries :: Copying Multiple Records From One Table To Another

Sep 7, 2013

I'm using Access 2007.I have 2 tables that are identical in structure. The tables are called [Workorder Parts] and [Workorder Parts Temp]. They both have the same structure:

WorkOrderPartID (Autonumber)
WorkorderID(Number)
PartID(Number)
Quantity(Number)
UnitPrice(Currency)
Notes(Memo)
KitID(Number).

[Workorder Parts] has 128 records in in and [Workorder Parts Temp] has 28 records in it that are a small subset of [Workorder Parts] therefore, the contents of the key field column in [Workorder Parts Temp] is the same as in [Workorder Parts].I tried the following SQL but get an error message saying "Cannot Update "WorkOrderPartID" Field not updateable":

DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO [WorkOrder Parts] SELECT * FROM [Workorder Parts Temp]"

My aim is that I want all of the records from [Workorder Parts Temp]to be copied to [Workorder Parts] and have their "WorkOrderPartID" fields correctly updated with a new value...

Modules & VBA :: Copying File To Specified Folder And Updating Records With New Location?

Jan 28, 2015

I'm currently working on a database to track and inventory documents in my organization similar to a library catalog, but with a digital archive as well. I'll need the ability to "attach" documents to records in the main inventory (though using links instead of storing it in the db) and have the documents live in a centrally accessible location on our shared server.

I will need to have this function work through a few different tables and in a few different iterations, but I'm trying to work on the simplest part first, which is attaching a thumbnail/preview of a given document to the record for that document.

I've got some VBA working well which opens the file picker and copies the file to a directory relative to the DB. It also creates a folder with each employee's ID number if it doesn't exist already (which it gets from the Windows log in) and adds "Copied_" to the front of the file.

Now I'm trying to get the VBA code to interact with the record. Presumably I need to tell the form button I'm using to launch the VBA code to pass the primary key of the record being displayed to VBA. Then, at the end of the VBA code I need to take that value and find the record again from VBA so I can update the MediaThumbnailLink in the original record.

Does this order of operations make sense? If so, how should I go about passing these values back and forth and writing the new link value?

Here's the VBA I'm using so far...

Code:
Option Compare Database
Public Sub GoCopyThumbnail()
Dim fDialog As FileDialog
Set fd = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
Dim varFile As Variant
Dim LUser As String

[Code] ....

Modules & VBA :: Updating Data Between Database Versions

Sep 17, 2013

I have been asked to add features (and fields) to an existing database containing private medical data. The idea is to add features to the empty database, test it with fake data, purge the fake data and deliver it to the user in another state with a simple update button. The Access 2010 database is in one piece (No front/back end).

I am looking for the best/shortest VBA method to move a lot of preexisting field data from the old database to the new version. I think I have it mostly figured out; I have code for counting, reading and writing the table names, field names and field data.

However, because the data types vary within the tables and there will be new fields in the new versions tables, my only idea, so far, is to code through the data table-by-table and field-by-field, a lengthy process with a large footprint. Moving entire tables or complete records may not be effective. Any faster way to transfer all these tables field data?

General :: Updating Table Data With Data From Preceding Entry?

Jan 5, 2013

My question is this: I have a table where I'm entering employees' hours worked. Basically, it's something like this:

ID WorkerNumberDateworkedTimeStartTimeEnded
121/2/201310:00:00 AM3:00:00 PM
221/3/20132:00:00 AM11:00:00 AM
321/4/201312:15:00 AM11:30:00 AM
421/5/201310:25:00 PM11:00:00 AM
531/2/201311:00:00 AM3:30:00 PM
631/3/201312:00:00 PM10:00:00 PM
731/10/20137:00:00 AM4:00:00 PM

I have a query that (easily) determines how many hours an employee has worked on any given day. What I can't figure out at all, is how to write a query that can figure out how much time an employee had off in between shifts.

Thus far I'm able to run a query that separates this main table into individual workers by their id numbers, but can't figure out how to determine time off between shifts - as the last hour worked one day, and the first hour worked the next day are on two different lines (they are two different table entries).

Updating Data In Queries

Jan 31, 2005

Each month I get 20 new tables to query data from. The field layout for my query is the same each time, with about 40 fields in total. Because this is the same query each time (and only the data in each table changes), how can I best set this up. I.E. each time I run the query, I have to go back in to the design view and select the new table for each field (in this case, update all 40 fields with the new table name). Surely there is a quicker way to do this.

Thanks,

Syntax For Updating Table In Another Database From Current Db.

May 10, 2006

I'm having difficulties creating a sql statement which updates data in another Access database from a current database.

I'm able to do an insert and delete statement just perfectly, but not an Update.

For example, here is a dummy sample (which does not work):

Update tbl_test1 IN '\C:Tempabc.mdb', tbl_test2
set tbl_test1.Name = tbl_test2.Name
Where tbl_test1.ID = tbl_test2.ID

I tried a couple of variations, however, I keep getting an error.
Also, I don't want to create a database link (due to the sheer complexity of my project, which I'll spare you the details..)

Does anyone know how to do this? I searched the forums and came up with zilch! =(.. Help??!

Queries :: Update Query (table To Table) Not Updating All Records

Nov 26, 2013

I'm using an UPDATE query to update records in one table (tblMain) from another table (tblTemp)

Here is my SQL :

Quote:

UPDATE [tblMain]
INNER JOIN [tblTemp] ON [tblMain].[MainField1] = [tblTemp].[TempField1]
SET [tblMain].[MainField2] = [tblTemp].[TempField2];

I only want to update the records in tblMain which have a corresponding record in tblTemp (linked by MainField1 / TempField1)

If any record doesn't appear in tblTemp, I want tblMain to retain the existing value for that record.

However, it appears that in such situations, the record in tblMain has it's MainField2 value set to null / ZLS.

I've tried using LEFT JOIN and RIGHT JOIN and also tried WHERE clauses but the result is the same every time.

Queries :: Data Comparing And Updating Incorrectly

Apr 17, 2013

I have 2 tables one Access, one FoxPro both containing similar information. The idea of my query is to compare both tables and update the Access table if the value in the FoxPro table has changed. This works fine for a number of similar queries that I have. However, intermittently, this query will see two values as different when they are exactly the same and replace the value in the Access table with a seemingly random value. I know the "Random" values are from other records within the table but cannot see any link between the values.

Queries :: Updating Individual Records In A Table From Another Table

Jan 11, 2015

I have an Access 2007 application that has a Parts Table that contains a list of automotive parts.I have attached a screen shot (parts.jpg) showing the structure.I have another table called Web_Parts that has exactly the same structure as Parts. The Web_Parts table gets its data from a CSV import that I do that is data extracted from an MySQL database used by an eCommerce website.

You will notice that there is a field called "Web_Product_Id" (number). This is the unique ID for each of the products that I have exported from the Web shop system. I need to regularly (probably every couple of weeks), export out of the web shop system and import into the Access environment.

Due to the fact that the data in the web shop system may change (pricing, description, add new items, delete new items etc), I need to find a way that I can simply update any existing records in the Parts table with any new information contained in the Web_Parts table......

Updating Table Data Using A Combo Box

Sep 4, 2006

Hi all
I have been nutting out this problem but have been unable to find a solution, even my learned colleague is at a loss to help. This is an data update query using combo boxes and forms.
I have 2 databases, Data and App, I have linked 2 tables, Main and Supervisor from the Data.mdb to the App.mdb. Supervisor has 2 fields ID and Name. Main has multiple fields but is linked to Supervisor by the ID field. I have a query that gets details from the Main Table and this is entered into a form. I deleted the SupervisorID text box and inserted a combo box using the wizard, it gets its data from a query that gets details from the Supervisor table showing the Supervisor name, the ID field in the dropdown is hidden. The combo box selection is held in the SupervisorID of the Main table.
What I want to do is change the Supervisor name using the combo box however I am unable to select another name from the dropdown list.
I have tried changing the Data Entry property of the form to Yes, this did not work. Allow edits is set to yes. I have tried adding another combo box which gets the data straight from the Supervisor table but I have the same problem.
Can anyone help, we think it is a simple property setting but all we have tried has failed to date. Thanks in advance.
