Queries :: Creating Query Without Repeating Duplicate Relationships
Feb 13, 2014
I have two tables that look like this:
Table 1
LOCATION NUMBER , SIZE
1.12 ,100
1.13 ,100
1.14, 12
1.15, 12
1.16 ,150
1.17 ,150
1.18 ,100
Table 2
ITEM , SIZE
A , 12
B , 12
C ,100
D ,12
E ,100
F ,100
G , 150
I would like to do a query that Joins the "Size" in each table, and then matches an "Item" to a "Location". However, because of how a normal join works, I cannot seem to figure out how to limit the "Location" field from producing duplicates in the match.
I only want to have 1 location for every 1 Item.

and I have several queres using the same table. I was trying to add 2 columns and fields to my 1 querie. I do not use program much but I have it for my cattle. SO I was clicking around. Went to Table and went to add the field.I changed my Primary Key field then realized I should not have done that.I changed it back to "ID" and "Number" and added my fields. THEN I went to the one querie and added my columns and fields. However NOW the one querie I messed with has 30,888 rows as it just repeats the 20 or so rows over and over .The other queries do not and they use some of the same data "ROWS" from the table

I have SQL query/dual sub-query in MS Access that is returning data from the left side of the query FROM correctly, but is only returning one record from the right side of the query FROM. Furthermore, it repeats the display of the one record and it repeats the entire results set with a different one record each time until all the records have been displayed. I expect that problems described as "Furthermore" will not exist by fixing the one record issue. I have tried using all the join types available in MS Access, but none change the result.
The desired output is:
Yellow Blue
11/23/2013 11/19/2013
11/19/2103 10/01/2012
10/01/2102 10/08/2010
10/08/2010 12/14/2007
The actual output is:
Yellow Blue
11/23/2013 11/19/2013
11/19/2103 11/19/2013
10/01/2102 11/19/2013
10/08/2010 11/19/2013
11/23/2013 10/01/2102
11/19/2103 10/01/2102
10/01/2102 10/01/2102
10/08/2010 10/01/2102
The same pattern is repeated 2 more times with Blue values of 10/08/2010 and then 12/14/2007.
Here is the SQL:
SELECT Long_List.Yellow,Short_List.Blue
FROM
(
SELECT DISTINCT BirthDate AS Blue
FROM (
SELECT DISTINCT BirthDate FROM citizens
UNION
[Code] ....

I have an "Returns" master form that contains two subforms. The subforms contain items that we are returning back into our inventory. The underlying queries in each subform show only those records where the "Return Date" is null. The query(s) works fine, except that if there are 3 items that need to be returned there are 3 records that show in the master Returns form. I tried the Totals option in the query but the I need that Return Date on the subform. I only want one Returns master form to show the 3 records (not 3 records of the same master form).

I am using SQL 2000 and have two tables that I want to create a relations ship, so that when I add data to one it gets added to the other.
Table_Main
QuoteID int
PartNumber nvarchar
(both make up key field)
Table_Secondary
QuoteID int
Item nvarchar
(both make up key field)
When I use the database diagram in MS Access (ADP not MDB) I get:
"The columns in Table 'Table_Main' do not match an existing primary key or UNIQUE contraint."
Othere then then actual name of the filed, they all match, what gives?

I'm a student working on a project in which I've inputted information from course evalution forms into new databases. I have a database for each semester and then tables for the individual workshops. Problem is, these are many to many relationships and there is no real way to link the tables. My friend suggested a redesign, which would essentially mean splitting up the information for an individual form. (i.e. course instructor in one table, comments on workshop in another table) I have a big problem with this because I would be eliminating peoples' ability to see all the information for one workshop in the same table, which in my mind is just as useless. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts if I'm taking the right approach. Thanks.

I have an assignment with absolutely no directions other than
Quote: 1.Open the Relationship window
2.Create the following relationships:
The strDeptCode field in tblDepartment should be related to the strDept field in tblHumanResourcesData
The strEmpID field in tblPersonalData should be related to the strEmpID field in tblHumanResourcesData
The strParkingLotCode field in tblParkingInfo should be related to the strParkingLotCode field in tblHumanResourcesData
3.Save the relationships and close the Relationship window.
Where do I go to begin this? I couldn't find any real help with the help sources in Access. Nothing that made any sense at least.
Oh - I am using Access 2003 by the way.
Any help or direction would be extremely appreciated!
Thanks,
Ryan

I'm trying to create multiple relationships between the same two tables, but I run into problems every time I try. I'm using Access 2007.
Specifics:
I have a table with information on meetings and there are two hosts. So I have fields Host 1 and Host 2. I have a second table that lists possible hosts and their personal information. I have a relationship between table 1 "Host 1" and the Host in table 2; I cannot create another working relationship between table 1 "Host 2" and the Host in table 2.
how I can get that to work? With just the one relationship, I can go to table 2 of the hosts, click on their name, and see all their meetings. But if I add another relationship, it takes out all of the information. I've been working on this for over an hour,

I'm thinking about creating temporary (while db open) relationships between tables, since transfering tables is possible only if no linked relationships are present. However it's important to preserve in some cases referential integrity.Looking online, I found this code:
Code:
Public Function CreateRelation(primaryTableName As String, _
primaryFieldName As String, foreignTableName As String, _
foreignFieldName As String) As Boolean
[code]...
Even with the comments I don't really understand what exactly this code does or doesn't do.I tried the code. It seems (?) to create a relationship. Since the relationship doesn't show up in the relationships table, I'm not really sure if it's there.
- why it's not visible among other relashionships (or is it me?? maybe, it wasn't the code that was working but the query...)
- how to implement referential integrity
- what's the behaviour of this supposed relationship. Is it permanent or not? If not when is it deleted?

I thought its better to mention it here as well:
How do I get the query to repeat itself to gernerate extra rows of info.
I have "[Enter Ingredient Code]" in the criteria section on one column, this gives me a popup when starting the report to enter the code. I would like to have this reappear to enter more information. Maybe the action to with another pop up box like
"Would you like to add another ingredient"
"Yes" "No"
Click on yes and the query will rerun and enter the data in, select no and the report is made.

I am trying to create four tables: Company, Contact, Activities, and Opportunities.
I want them to relate hierarchically. A Company can have many contacts, contacts can have multiple Activities and Opportunities. But you can't have contacts without a company and you can't have Activities and Opportunities without having a contact. I want all PK's in all tables to link to one another, that you cannot create one without the other.
How I can do this in Access 2010?
YYMM00000-000000-A0000
CompanyID-ContactID-ActivityID
or
YYMM00000-000000-O0000
CompanyID-ContactID-OpportunityID

I am attempting to perform a normalization process in a query where an organization would be operating in several different states and different countries. I have created three tables where: one table is Organization, second table is Country, and the third table is State. I made a table to record: Organization ID, Country ID and State ID. An organization could have 1 or more countries while having no US states. Also the organization could have 1 or more countries while having 1 or more US states.
What I am seeing is in my query is:
Organization | Country | State
Organization | Country | State
Organization | Country |
What I am wanting to see is:
Organization | Country, Country, Country | State, State
In the end, I want to make a mail merge from this query table.
How can I 'normalize' the query?

I have a database which holds information about repairs. Each repair is called a task and among other things data is held about things(s) that caused the failure and what need to be replaced. Usually it's one fault but it could be many.Replacements are usually more than 1. Bottom line, in a simplistic view, I have 3 tables task, fails and replacements. There is one to many relationship between tasks and fails and also a one to many relationship between tasks and replacements.
If there is one fail and many replacements my query is good enough as it will produce
task1 fail1 replace1
task1 fail1 replace2
task1 fail1 replace3
On the report I can hide duplicates to get the desired (. = space!!)
task1 fail1 replace1
...............replace2
...............replace3
Problem occurs when I get more than 1 fail. Query returns
task1 fail1 replace1
task1 fail1 replace2
task1 fail1 replace3
task1 fail2 replace1
task1 fail2 replace2
task1 fail2 replace3
Hiding duplicates I get
task1 fail1 replace1
...............replace2
...............replace3
.........fail2 replace1
...............replace2
...............replace3
whereas I'd like to get
task1 fail1/fail2 replace1
.....................replace2
.....................replace3
or something similar.

I have a load of data in an excel spread sheet that I'm trying to put into an access using Excel VBA (Jet/ACE SQL I think!?). I do this by constructing INSERT INTO strings and looping through my spread sheet. Let's say the primary key is associated with the field [Company] which holds the company names. A simplified version of what I was using (it all works great ) is below:
Code:
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
Set cn = New ADODB.Connection
cn.ConnectionString = GetConnectionString()
cn.Open
cn.Execute strSQL
where strSQL =
Code:
INSERT INTO tblTestMDB ([Company], [Date])
VALUES ('BP', '30/09/2012')
Unfortunately, I am having issues with users adding the same company twice. I'd like it to:
- update the existing company info if the company already exists
- add the company if it is not already there.
I'm trying to do it in two stages. First an update, then an add. The first part works great :
Code:
UPDATE tblTestMDB
SET [Date]='21/03/2015'
WHERE [Company]='BP';
The second part: (I have tried numerous variations on the syntax):
Code:
INSERT INTO tblTestMDB ([Company], [Date])
VALUES ('BP', '30/09/2012')
WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM tblTestMDB WHERE [Company] = 'BP');
I find the error messages rather cryptic but they include things like "Query input must contain at least one table or query." or "Missing semicolon ( ; ) at end of SQL statement." (<== No I'm not!?

I have a question on hiding duplication record using query.
The fields in the query are:
full name(trainee), NRIC(trainee), gender(trainee), preferred language(trainee), company(trainee), course name(course), course date(course), competent(course), class(course), L3 survey(trainee), L4 survey(trainee), num of month(course)
When the query is being run, it will show all the people that have not done the L3 and L4 survey after 3 month. The the query will be convert into a form. However the problem is that the record will show a few same name due to one person can take more than 1 course. therefore, the data in the course table will always be different.
How can i make the record only show 1 name even though they have different course name.
I had tried putting 'yes' for unique record and unique value but it did not change the result.
current SQL query:
SELECT DISTINCT trainee.[Full Name], trainee.NRIC, trainee.Gender, trainee.[Preferred Language], trainee.Company, course.[Course Name], course.[Course Date], course.Competent, course.Class, trainee.[L3 survey], trainee.[L4 survey], DateDiff('m',[Course Date],Date()) AS [Num of Month]
FROM trainee INNER JOIN course ON trainee.NRIC = course.NRIC
WHERE (((course.Competent)="c") AND ((trainee.[L3 survey])=False) AND ((DateDiff('m',[Course Date],Date()))>=3)) OR (((trainee.[L4 survey])=False) AND ((DateDiff('m',[Course Date],Date()))>=6));

Im trying to write a query that shows all the container movements. Yet when I run the query qryFullHistory I get a duplicate value for container Off Island. Ive tried adding some criteria that says that the DateRequested has to be between the ImportDate and ExportDate but that doesnt seem to work. There are duplicate entries for container Off Island in tblContainerDetails as the same container has arrived and left and then returned on another voyage. Yet there is no entry for the second voyage in the tblMEMRContainer.
A brief description of the tables is:
tblMEMR Movement requests details
tblMEMRContainers the containers that were moved on the movement request. There can be more than 1 container for each request.
tblContainerDetails details and dates for the container when it arrived and when it left
There are other tables but these are the 3 that are used in the query.

I am trying to create a query to find duplicates and delete the duplicates. The result will eventually be used in another query (append query) to update a table.I have a table with 4 columns lets say for simplicity they are A, B, C, D
I want my query to find duplicates within B and deleting them. The catch is before deleting them I need to look into column A to ebsure they are actually duplicates. Example below
Example
A B
John Doe Tires
John Doe Wipers
Allison Doe Tires
Allison Doe Tires
As you can see from the above Tires is a duplicate and need to be deleted.
A B
John Doe Tires
John Doe Wipers
Allison Doe Tires

[tbl_Rewards Activity Report - By Member Number].[Last Four],
[tbl_Rewards Activity Report - By Member Number].[BAL ID],

I have this small database, I would like to have your support to setup this query "QryResults" in order to remove the duplicate records, I can't find a way to get shown only true records, for some reason I'm getting duplicate rows and fake values, the query is calculating operations from two different queries and a table.
