Queries :: DateAdd Function Using Existing Field Values

I have a query in design view that consists of two calculated fields at the moment. One of the calculated fields is supposed to add one year onto a value from another date/time field called "Last_Date."

The expression I've written in the "Field:" box in Query design view is

Expr 2: DateAdd('yyyy',1,[Last_Date])

When I try to run the Query it doesn't work! Access just prompts me to enter a parameter value for Last_Date.

I am using the following to populate text boxes that are functioning as labels in my report. I am getting an error: #NAME. Do you know what's wrong with this code??

=DateAdd("d",-1,Forms!frmDates!txtEnd)

This prompts me for txtEnd. When I put in the date (which is a parameter from my SQL cross tab query, the values in the report WORK, but the label doesn't. Any ideas?

Queries :: Combo Box Won't Display Existing Values

I had a text box in a contacts DB form for the State field (Named txtState). It worked fine. I decided to replace it with a combo box. Now not only will it not display the existing values, but to rub salt in the wound it won't allow me to select from the drop down list. The error message that says that the field is too small for the value. I tried changing each of the yes/no properties one at a time but none of them change the outcome.

Complex DateAdd Function

Hi All,

i have a slight problem i have a access table which has the following fields:

Name
Photocard ID
Purchase Date
Photo
Cashsaver Zone
Valid From
Period of Validation
Expiry

the period of validation field has a lookup to another table with the folwing values: 28 Days, 3 Months, 6 Months and Annual.

the valid from date is entered manually.

basically (maybe not uite the right word!) i need the the expiry field to automatically insert the correct expiry date by looking in the valid from date and adding the correct amount of time onto it according to what is selected in the period of validation field.

example:
Valid from date is 01/01/2006
Period of validation is 6 Months
Expiry date should be 01/06/2006 (01/01/2006 + 6 Months)

i came up with the following formula although i know its not really correct and some of the words arent functions at all just to show what is should be based on:

WHERE Period of validation <= DataValue ("28 Days") then DateAdd("d",28, Period of validation)
WHERE Period of validation <= DataValue ("3 Months") then DateAdd("m",3, Period of validation)
WHERE Period of validation <= DataValue ("6 Months") then DateAdd("m",6, Period of validation)
WHERE Period of validation <= DataValue ("Annual") then DateAdd("m",12, Period of validation)

also i am unsure into what box to type this into?

i would greatly apperciate some help

I have a database used to manage teaching assignments (which kid is assigned to which teacher so to speak). I have this relationship defined through three tables, a teacher table, a student table, both with unique ID's. The third table is used to define the assignment. Also, the kid table has an extra GroupID. The group ID is what is used to define. So in the definition table, Teacher 1 is assigned to Group 1, and so on (though their may be 20 kids in group 1). When a new teacher is added to the teacher table, I need it to add it to the corresponding field in the definition table. The groupID is in the table as an Autonumber so that will populate automatically.

I need to appendTeacherID to tblassignment (TeacherassignmentID) and have only one occurrence of the TeacherID. So, if I have teachers 1-8 listed, each assigned to a group# in the tblassignment, and I add Teacher 9, I need it to add Teacher 9's unique ID to the TeacherassignmentID field without adding 1-8 again. I can't figure out how to "check" for ID's 1-9 and add only those I've added to the teacher list that aren't already assigned to a group.

I've tried a few different SQL queries append/select queries but nothing seems to do what I need it to do....

DateAdd Function. Retrieve Records That Were Made This Month.

Hi Guys,

I have an SQL statement that looks something like this:

SELECT * FROM tblBandwidth WHERE (DateCreated > (DateAdd('m',-1,Date())));

So... would that retrieve all the records which are a month old (ie 31 days old, for example), or would it return all of the records that were made in the current month... there is a big difference!

I basically want a way of returning all of the records that were made in the current month.

Add New Field To Existing Table And Populate New Field With Existing Data

-Existing Access Database contains tables with 1-2 million records

I would like to add a field[dol] to an existing table[rei]. I need this new field[rei].[dol] to be populated with existing data from another table[main] based on the associated field[main].[account1] or [main].[account2] or [main].[account3].

Table1[main]
...account1
...account2
...account3
...dol

In the [main] table. There is always data in [dol]. But there is NOT always data in the [account] fields. Sometimes there is multiple account numbers per [dol] but not always.

Customers will ALWAYS have at least 1 [account] number and [dol]. Some will have multiple [account] numbers and [dol]. Sometimes these [account] numbers are the same in multiple fields[account1] [account2] [account3].I just need to do a lookup or something to find the [account#] and pull in its [dol] from the [main] table and populate it in [rei].[dol].

I am trying to add a new email field to my existing database of 900 employees. I have imported an excel worksheet of email addresses into a new table that has lastname, firstname, employee#, email. The primary key on the new table is email. The primary key on the employee table is employee#, and there is a new field titled email.

The email field in both tables are text fields. In running an append query, it either adds 900 to 27000 additional fields of email only or it says cannot complete because of key code violations. On the join properties I have clicked on #3 all records from source to only equal fields of destination.

I'm trying to write a query that will validate a field in an existing table. I want the query to show where any of the 412,000 records fail this strict validation:

AAnnnnnnA

...where A is any letter A-Z and n is a digit 0-9

Clearly I can use the LEN function to check for invalid lengths (anything <>9), but I'm looking for a simple neat expression I can use that will check the format. Does an existing function already exist before I resort to writing my own function in VBA (again)?

I have a field called uniqueID which I would like to update based on 2 other fields that are already populated in my recordset (from running previous queries). I heard it is not possible to do an Update Select like shown below.

select max(uniqueID) from myTable where a = "value of field a from first record in record set" and b = "value of field b from first record in record set"

If it is true that I cannot do an Update Select then I am trying to do something in VBA. How can I Loop each row in the record set and store the values from fields a and b. I would obviously then need to pass those values into the sql above and store the result in a variable. I would then do a straight update to put the value of uniqueID into myTable.

I have a calculated field (Bhours) with the following IIf function:

=IIf(Fields!BDate.Value<=Parameters!Pdate.Value and Fields!EDate.Value>Parameters!Pdate.Value,Fields!H ours.Value,0)

It works perfectly, but I don't like the fact that it has a zero for the false part as I like the field to the blanc instead of filled with a zero.I can't use a space as I need to calculate with this field later on. I tried using "", but then the field displays #error".

Queries :: Failing To Filter By Criteria After Return Values From A Function?

I have two date fields in a table. I need to find the days between these dates and, if its greater than 7 days, I want to display the record in a report, so far, I have found a hand function that allows me to enter two dates and it returns a long data value representing the number of days in between the two dates. (google "I've developed the following code to count the business days between 2 dates." and its the second one that starts as SOLVED I made no mods to it as it does what i need it to do.

So, i added this to its own module within the data base for use within a query. My test query basically displays the unique ID, the start date and the end date and then displays the values returned from the function. here is the SQL:

SELECT [Main Table].[Unique ID], [Main Table].[Start date], [Main Table].[End Date], (Business_Days_Between([End Date],[Start date])) AS [Days between]
FROM [Main Table]
WHERE ((([Main Table].[Start date]) Is Not Null) AND (([Main Table].[End Date]) Is Not Null));

When ran, this Query works... However, when I enter a criteria like =2 or > 7, it says data type mismatch. I have even attempted the CInt() function to make sure its formated as int but i continue to get the same error.

How To Update A Field Using DateAdd And IIF In A Form

I have a field in a form which indicates which date the person was last contacted [LastContact_Date] and I have a second field which states if the person is either ACTIVE or INACTIVE [ActiveInactive]. You would become inactive if the last time you were contacted was greater that 6 months ago.

I built an update query which works. It has the following IIf statement

IIf(DateAdd("m",6,[tblMAIN]![LastContact_Date])>Now(),"ACTIVE","INACTIVE")

It would be good if the [ActiveInactive] field would update when you tab past the [LastContact_Date] field but not essential.

Which is the best way to update a form field based on another form field? Do I use this update query in the [LastContact_Date] field or the [ActiveInactive] field in the form or table? Is there a better way than an update query to do the same thing?

What I'd like to do now is add a second function that will make all the controls on the form go to null after the record is saved. so the user can start from scratch and add another record.

I tried adding me.refresh right before "end sub" but that didnt work.

I tried adding "me.controlname.value = null" for every control on the form, and that didnt work either.

I also tried adding this code that i found on bytes.com:

ctl.Value = Null
Next

That didn't work either.

Calculating And Storing New Values From Existing Ones

I am pretty new to access, I will get right to it.

I am scoring rating scales. I want to be able to enter just the responses from a person, say on 80 questions (preferably into a form), where all the answers are 0 to 3 and have Access add the questions into the right groups to calculate all the sub-scores of the rating scale.
For example, Scale A may consist of Questions 1, 6, 15, 29, 35, and 70
I need access to add those up and save them so I can use them in a report.
I also need access to add the frequency of certain questions that were responded to with the answer 3.
I have gotten Access to calculate the scores in a form by adding extra variables to the form, erasing the variable name out of the white box and putting in the syntax =[Q1]+[Q6]+[Q15], etc. in place of a variable name but it just sits there on the form and doesn't store it anywhere.

Lookup Values In Existing Database

I've been racking my brain the last couple of days trying to figure out how to solve this problem, and I believe I've reached the end of my rope. I have a feeling that this isn't very difficult to a more savvy Access person, but I am at a loss.

Here's the situation. I have received a fairly large DB containing CCTV data for sanitary sewers. There are primarily two tables I'm dealing with, one lists a number (auto-number) for each pipe that was televised. Simple enough. The other uses this legacy number to show all deformities or service leads within a particular length of pipe. For example, for run X, there may be 7 rows in the table with X as the ID, one for each service lead along that length of pipe (I hope this is making sense :()

Ultimately, we need to tie this database into our GIS theme. To do this, I will need to add to the PipeID number from our GIS theme to the access table. What I've done so far is to create a new table in the DB with the number for each pipe televised, and I've manually added the corresponding PipeID number from the GIS in the second column. What I'm hoping to do is add a new column to my occurrence table so that for each occurrence X, I can add the GIS PipeID number. Perhaps this would make more sense:

I've gone ahead and created the relationship between the newly created table and the existing table based on that auto-number field, and I've made the new PipeID column a combo box. This shows all of my PipeID numbers, which is a good thing. I'm hoping there's a way for it to automatically recognize the auto-number field and populate the PipeID field accordingly.

Have you ever known what you want to say, but not quite understood how to say it? That's kind of how I feel about this question, and I do apologize if I've made no sense. But if I have, and anyone has any suggestions for me, they would be greatly appreciated.

Issue: [Status] can be one of 6 values, the user can manually select Review or Completed.

Query: Below is the query I just started to ignore the calculation if either Review or Completed exist.

I am having an issue with duplicates in my table. I have a table, called "Part Mods", that has about 12 fields in it. the first 2 of them are "Mod" and "Part Number". I have a form where someone can insert data into this table and what i want is for them to NOT be able to insert a record with the same Mod/Part Number combination of an already existing record. I have "indexed" turned on but I am pretty sure that is for every field.

I have this linked table query from a OBDC and I need to be able to filter out specific dates in that query. The dates in the table were in text format and I converted the dates using the CDate function. I wanted to filter the query to a single date and always I get the Datatype mismatch in criteria expression error.

However, filtering dates does work only when there are other specifications in the criteria fields (e.g. if I specify a date and and name). My SQL code in error looks like this:

SELECT
purch_hist.PUITM AS ITEM,
purch_hist.PUPO AS PO,
purch_hist.PUQTY AS QTY_RECEIVED,
CDate([purch_hist.PURDT]) AS RECEIPT_DATE,

This query works fine with a non converted date field, however the dates I need are in text format and need to be converted since I do not have permissions to edit the tables.
