Queries :: Delete Duplicates In Row Of Data
Feb 10, 2014
I need to delete duplicate rows (or create new table without them) but the duplicate is not the entire row of data.
Date Time LeagueMatchingId League HomeMatchingId HomeName AwayMatchingId AwayName
HomeScore AwayScore HomeRedCardCount AwayRedCardCount FTOU FTOverOdds FTUnderOdds
20121202 10/02/2014 20:34:02 17 FRANCE LIGUE 1 147 Lorient 154 Toulouse 0 0 0 0 1.5 0.88 -0.98
20121202 10/02/2014 20:34:02 17 FRANCE LIGUE 1 147 Lorient 154 Toulouse 0 0 0 0 1.5 0.88 -0.98
[Code] .....
In this example I am only interested in the first and last rows, since the ones in between have the same data in the last few columns. They are not true duplicates since the time stamp for each is different.
Currently thinking I need to compare each and every row to the prior row in VBA and delete if criteria match.

I have a table that has multiple records (count >1). I used the find duplicate records and then made it a delete query, however, this resulted in deleting all the records that had count >1. I need to retain distinct record, and delete the extra records. Using select distinct.. I do not want to use VBA to achieve this, but at the same time be able to incorporate the steps in a module that would execute the queries in a sequential order and achieve the same results.

Each month I get the previous months data. In that data, I have a list of names that have duplicates in them. Some of the names have last, first middle. Some have just last, first. I want to combine the like names and leave the unlike names not combined.
I want to combine in this situation
ex. Smith, Peter
Smith, Peter W
I do not want to combine in this situation
ex. Smith, Peter M
Smith, Peter W
My goal is to get the original name in a table with the combined name next to it.
Original NameNew Name
Smith, PeterSmith, Peter
Smith, Peter WSmith, Peter

I have hundreds of duplicates in my database and i've tried using logic to delete them but there are still thousands left over. I know duplicates can be removed by using VBA, how to use VBA IDE.

Hi Guys,
I wanted to delete some duplicate records off of a table.
I went through the steps of copying the structure of a table to a new table then setting the Primary Key as what I wanted to be unduplicated. In my case, I have the Primary Key setup as the Account SSN and the Persons ID. This way it would be OK to have more than 1 SSN as long as I dont have more than 1 SSN and Person ID together.
I have 430 records on my table, when I run the find duplicate query, I see 22 lines (11 duplicates). I went through the table and confirmed that this is correct.
When I paste the original table to the PK table, it copies 392 records. Basically, it didn't copy 27 records it should have. I hunted down the 27 and they were not duplicates, they only had 1 SSN + Person ID.
So to make it short, the easy way to kill duplicates for some reason doesnt work for me.
Is there another way to do this? I was thinking of using the Find Duplicates Query and somehow turning it into a Delete Query, but I would only want it to Delete 1 of each it finds, not all of them.
Once again, thanks for the help.

I am a rookie! Have a table with names addresses and years. Want to wittle it down to one name and address per. Ran totals query. Did delete duplicates. When I hit view datasheet, it shows the right info to be deleted, but when I try to run the query, it comes back with "Could not delete from specified tables." When I hit the help button, it says Error 3086 and tells me about read only. I have checked permissions, and I have full permissions. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

I think this is an easy one...
I have two tables - one is a Master. I want to delete the records in the Master if they are in the second table. Here's my SQL and I can't get it to work:
DELETE from TestMaster
INNER JOIN on JoinedDupList
ON TestMaster.ID=JoinedDupList.ID
WHERE JoinedDupList.ID = TestMaster.ID
I'm being told I need to define the table to delete from... I thought I defined it.
Thanks!

If there a way i can remove duplicates from an email list? I pull these emails from a recordset. But i email may appear more than once and it doesn't look good e.g
johndoe@mail.com;johndoe@mail.com;jo...hndoe@mail.com.
I'd like to remove the duplicated email, if its possible. Code below.
Code:
Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("select * from query")
With objMailItem
If rs.RecordCount > 0 Then
rs.MoveFirst
Do
If Not IsNull(rs![email]) Then
vRecipientList = vRecipientList & rs![email] & ";"
rs.MoveNext
Else
rs.MoveNext
End If
Loop Until rs.EOF
.To = vRecipientList

I have a Query which can pull data to a form, then the form will evaluate the ID, after saving/recording, I need to delete the evaluated data on the query.
My problem is how can i delete it? There is Table1 for outputing the evaluation, Query1 where the evaluation can get the Data.
Process Flow:
> Form pulls data from Query1
> Evaluation was saved on Table1
> Evaluated ID should also be removed on Query1

I have a database that needs data to be reentered every school term, at the moment i am having to delete selected data fields manually. im looking to create a query so that the data is deleted by running it. The data would be returned to a blank field. I have tried using a delete query but it is asking for the selected table, even though a selected table exists. Using the update query i am faced with updating the query to a typed word however i just want it blank.

I have a Table1 served by Form1..It is a list of: UnqID, process, quantity, totaltime(in seconds).I want to click on a record to bring up a filtered Form2 with the chosen record on it.What I want to be able to do is to now split the quantity (and the time) and put these new records back into Table1 and delete the original record
EG
ID1,10,write a report,2400
I want to delete this and replace it with two (or three/four etc) replacements, but still adding up to 10 quantity and 2400 seconds so that the new data could be:
ID2,5,write a report,1200
ID3,5,write a report,1200
My initial thoughts are to create a holding table to:Append filtered data on Form2 to a holding Table1hld (i don't know how to do this) delete data in Table1.then enter the new quantities into a holding Table2 (that I will input myself) and then append (through a series of queries back into Table1).The first problem is how to append (and subsequently delete) the filtered record from Form2 to Table1hld.

I have a table called "EquipmentRequired" which is populated by 4 append queries,
5000BaseReq, 6000BaseReq, 6000IFBBReq, EquipmentReq which get some of their information by counting fields in another table but all have the same field names.
The queries contain all data that is initially used to append new records to the table and this works fine.Unless some information changes or a record is added then I would like to add a button to a form and call it "update equipment" behind which would run a vba code firstly to delete all the records in "EquipmentRequired" table then run the 4 queries without the warnings and re-populate the table.

I am wondering if there is a quicker way to export a query to excel then have the data in that query removed from the original table. (effectively cutting the data from the table and exporting to excel)
I understand that this can be done by exporting the query to excel then running the same query as a delete query to remove the data but I just wondered if this is the most efficient way.
I have experience of VB in excel but currently only use the basic macro builder in Access though if Access VB is more efficient I can easily learn.

I've become frustrated trying to work out a problem. I have a database of equipment which is loaned out, then returned and may then be subsequently loaned out again.
I have a table called equipment inventory which has equipment listed as equipmentID.
I can obviously create a list of what is the total list of equipment.
I have two other tables called Loan Occasions and Loan details. One loan occasion may have multiple pieces of equipment going out at the same time. When the Equipment is returned, the Return date is recorded and this may then go back into stock. However, the same piece of equipment may then be loaned out again and of course is no longer in stock but on loan. Subsequently, the same may happen again.
I have tried multiple ways to produce a list of what is actually in stock and what is on loan but I keep getting the wrong answers. I keep ending up with a list with duplicate items of the same equipment which has been lent out, returned and then lent out and returned again. I have set my Return date default to null but this doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone have a suggestion of how to solve this dilemma.
Thanks

what I am trying to do with that table is get a sum of all assets, a sum of all Customers, and a sum of all Employees only counting each Comp ID once. Each company that we deal with carries multiple of our products. So as you can see I currently have it in the table where it shows the different data for each product over 2011, 2012, and 2013. Obviously for this I cannot just sum the entire column, as I would have the same company summed multiple times. The thing that is making this challenging for me is that I need it summed for each individual year (2011, 2012, 2013), with the end result being a total number of employees, assets, and customers.
I was thinking that to do this I would need a Sumif formula with several other formulas inside of it, but cannot figure out what exactly I would need to do. I know that if I took it into excel I would be able to do it, but we have over 7000 different customers, each having anywhere from 3-20 different products, and for each of the years 2011-2013... so the data is just too massive to try to convert and manipulate in excel.
The reason that I am hoping to get a count of their customers, assets, and employees is so that we could then take the info from individual customers and find out that particular customer's portion of the total assets, customers, or employees. I guess the mock table that I made doesn't keep the formatting when I add spaces, so imagine that each pair of l l is a column and match that with the columns above.
I also need another column that has the 2012 and 2013 results
l Comp ID l Year l Prod Fam l Prod Group l Prod Code l Assets l Customers l Employees l Assets for 2011 l Customers for 2011 l Employees for 2011 l
l 1101232 l 2011 l Family A l Group A l Prod A l 59000 l 33 l 28 l
l 1101232 l 2012 l Family A l Group A l Prod A l 55000 l 36 l 23 l
l 1101232 l 2013 l Family A l Group A l Prod A l 51000 l 39 l 25 l
l 1101232 l 2011 l Family A l Group C l Prod B l 59000 l 33 l 28 l
l 1101232 l 2012 l Family A l Group C l Prod B l 55000 l 36 l 23 l
l 1101232 l 2013 l Family A l Group C l Prod B l 51000 l 39 l 25 l
l 1101232 l 2011 l Family B l Group B l Prod C l 59000 l 33 l 28 l

I need to create a query that will pull duplicate names out of my db.
I would like it to pull all names that have:
duplicate LastName and duplicates of the first 3 letters of the FirstName.
For example, if I had the names:
Bland, Abe
Brown, Abe
Brown, Bill
Buster, Jon
Buster, Jonathon
I would like my query to return only Buster, Jon and Buster, Jonathon.

I'm looking for a way to grab values from one table that match a criteria, and append them/update them to another, but only grab one value once. Example:
Part ID ---- Profile Profile ID ---- Locations
Part1 - Profile 1 Profile 1 ---- Location 1
Part2 - Profile 1 Profile 1 ---- Location 2
Part3 - Profile 1 Profile 1 ---- Location 3
I have a database of parts that fit in certain profile sizes. Each profile size has multiple open locations. I need a query to grab a location, assign it to a part, grab a new location, assign it to the next part, etc, without assigning duplicate locations to different parts.
Right now, I'm doing this by using the First/Last aggregate functions, marking them as used, and looping it again and again until all have unique locations. Is there a better way to do this?

I want to be able to find duplicate numbers in the "claim #" field that exceed 20 within the "date of service" field for a month. I have a date box which allows me to select data from only one month at a time or all. What I'd like to be able to do is group the results by month. Currently it is only matching numbers by day not month.
SELECT HMR.[Claim #], Count(HMR.[Org #]) AS Total, HMR.[Date of Service], Count(HMR.[Date of Service]) AS [CountOfDate of Service]
FROM HMR
GROUP BY HMR.[Claim #], HMR.[Date of Service]

I bounced into a big problem with Access 2010 where I cannot seem to be able to remove duplicates from a table containing millions of entries midway through a series of queries.
The table is formed like this:
Date - Serial Number - Reading 1 - Reading 2 - Reading 3
30.7.2013 - 1122334455 - 12345 - 987654 - 654321
30.7.2013 - 1122334466 - 12345 - 987654 - 654321
29.7.2013 - 1122334455 - 12210 - 987654 - 643210
29.7.2013 - 1122334455 - 12210 - 987654 - 643210
29.7.2013 - 1122334466 - 12344 - 986013 - 453213
As you can see, there are some rows which contain exact duplicates and some are a bit different. I wish to remove those fields with exact duplicates and only the duplicated fields. Running "Find duplicates" in Access gives me about 250,000 rows with such data.
I've tried a few options already:
- I cannot use the date as primary key as there are several serial numbers. I cannot use serial numbers as primary key, because there are several dates. Using reading value as primary isn't an option either.
- Microsoft says I should mark all duplicate values with an x and then make a delete query to get rid of all the x-marked rows. For 250,000 duplicates, that's a bit too much manual 'x-ing'.
- If I do a delete query using the Find Duplicates query as a base, it removes all 250,000 entries from that table, instead of just the 125,000 which had a duplicate elsewhere in the table.
- If I make a query which identifies duplicate data and gives me just one row for each duplicate, the delete query still deletes both entries from the original table.
- I could make a new query which would have only unique values using Totals as criteria (for instance, using First for the Date-column). However, this still leaves the duplicate values in the original table. Note that this database is already 800 MB large and new data is imported once a week, for the next decade or so. I cannot have a table get duplicates every week and leave it there.
- If I make a macro which would create the unique values table first and then deletes the old table, what happens next week when I try to import new readings? I would need to make a new macro each time I try to import new data as the table names change. Or is there a way to first run the unique numbers out, then replace the original table with the new one? With a 800MB database, this would put me dangerously close to the 2GB size limit. I wouldn't be able to use this as a part of a macro, as the database would have to do Compact & Repair each time it deletes the original table, midway through a longer series of queries.
- Having duplicates removed from the original import isn't an option either, as it comes in as a overriding excel sheet for the past 3 months, once a week.
As you can see, it's quite a pickle getting the duplicates out of the original table. This is just a small part of a very long macro, which takes about 15 minutes to complete, but due to duplicates the database is getting way too large.

I have a table with the following fields:
Customer
Month
Qty
Unit Price
Extended Price
I want to know, by month, what the total extended price is for all customers. But some customers appear more than once in a month. So I also want to know the total extended price for the month, but I only want to include the extended price for each customer once, using only the record with the highest unit price (or extended price, qty for each customer is consistent), and ignoring additional records with the same customer in that month.
I am an excel user, and I could quickly do this with pivot tables... but I have too many records for Excel to handle this efficiently (it just keeps crashing!), so I thought I'd move to access... but I don't know how to use access! So I may need a little hand-holding here.

Hi this is my first post... so hi all :)
ok what i have is a table with contact details 900k plus
there are about 90k of which are duplicates.
this is the basic feilds that are important in this case.
Id, data_source, data_recived, data_code,
what i want is to have a table with unique records (no dups in data_code)
this table will look like this...
Id, data_code, Num_dups, dup1_source, dup1_date, daysbtw_Dup1_dup2, dup2_source, dup2_date, daysbtw_Dup2_dup3 ,dup3_source, dup3_date, daysbtw_Dup3_dup4 ,dup4_source, dup4_date,
I know there is no more than 4 dups of each record.
what i want from this is a table that will give me a record of how many dups for each record then all the dates that they were added and the date between each record entry.
if anyone can help it would be great .
thanks in advance.
