Queries :: Expression In A Query Without Actual Fields

I need to figure out the amount of days between two dates that do not exist in my database...I use this calculation to do waivers...I was able to build a table and put in the two dates and then build a query which calculates the days between the two but I wanted to know if I could build a query that prompts on a [start date] which I would enter and then prompts on an end date [end date] which I would enter to get the number of days between...is that possible?
I had...
WaiverDays: [Enter start date]-[Enter end date] but it did not let me run...I added () and it still did not run...

I am trying to find the best way to compare estimated expenses to actual expenses in Access. I am working with vessel and port call information, so each port call has a series of costs associated with it. I have two tables, each with multiple fields (around 100). Each of the fields contains a cost type that goes to a particular cost code. Each row of the table is associated with one particular port call. The call is estimated right after it happens, but the invoices are not all recieved for up to three months. Once all of the invoices for this port call have been recieved, we enter the actual expenses for the call. I am trying to find the best way to analyze the costs through finding the variances for one particular port call for each code, and also for multiple port calls to see which cost item has the largest/smallest variance for further investigation into how to estimate it more accurlately. I am thinking that I may have to move into Excel to do this, but would like to stay in Access if possible.

I am working with Access 2007. I have a little problem building the iif statement within a query criteria in [Actual Date] which is the following:
iif([Actual Date] Is Not Null And [Document]=0;>#01.01.2012# Or Is Null;999)
When I enter this I get no records out of about 8000. The table fields behind the query are in the right format (date/time and number).

I am involved in centrally managing a project , a part of which involves employees of certain companies being given a weekly subsidy for study on academic courses. I have successfully set up a table for all the learners and a related table for companies.
Each learner will receive a fixed weekly rate subsidy in the first year, and a lower fixed weekly rate subsidy in the second year. Somebody (not me) will need to check their paychecks to ensure that employees have been paid and all is above board. The learners/employees can start on the programme at any time. I need a way to track this (total claimed amounts, where they're up to etc).
My theoretical solution, is to have a field for each week a learner is on the programme (52 first year, 52 second), and instead of entering a currency amount in the field, the check-person can enter the date they saw the evidence and are happy with it. I thought then if I create a query that searches any dates that fall within the current claim period (eg >01/01/2015, <=Date()), and multiplies field count that fall within those parameters by first/second year subsidy rate if they're in that table. I think my logic is sound, I am just not sure how to write the query/expression, or if it's possible, or if there is a much simpler way to do it.

I am trying to set up a calculated field in one of my form querries, using expression builder.
In one of my source tables I have 4 date fields called Inspection date 1 to 4
I need the lowest date among those inspectinos which are in the future (next inspection) If all 4 dates are in the past or Nulls, the function should return the current date. The logic of the expression could be:
MIN(MAX(D1,Date()),MAX(D2,Date()),MAX(D3,Date()),M AX(D4,Date()))
How can I do this in expression builder?
The built-in functions DMin and Dmax work with single field arrays, witch would be perfect if the database were properly designed, but now I dont have the power to change this.

I am using a datasheet to show company info -
I have a field countyID which is a code field and a lookup table County
I want to show the text for county on the datasheet, should I base the datasheet on just the company table and use a combo to get the county text - or should I have query that brings in the county text.
Could the experts tell me the "correct" way of doing this?
What are the performance issues of the two methods. Is which method I choose dependent on how many records are in the lookup table?
Thanks Paul

I tend to work with large amounts of data (extracts from company systems) and I create a lot of Access/VBA based tools to automate processes.
I have an annoying error which has always appeared but I don't understand the root cause of it.
When viewing a query, if I filter, I get an error message pop up (though after clicking through the error I can still use the filter function):
"syntax error missing operator in expression 'name of field'".
This seems to happen when I add several calculated fields. Here are some examples of the conditions and calculated field formulas I'm using in this current one:
Conditions:
<>"CINEMATIC" And <>"SFX"
Not Like "*_ZZ*" And Not Like "*test*" And Not Like "EP_*"
[Forms]![FRMscriptPrintReview]![selectLangCombo]
Calculated Field:
Audio Ref Guide: IIf(Left$(Right$([TBLdata]![Script Resource],2),1)<>"_","?",Right$([TBLdata]![Script Resource],2))
I get the impression that its more of a bug with Access as the formulas aren't complicated really but need confirmation on this and if there is a way I can avoid it.

I am writing a very complex 'if statement' query expression. I need to create an alias column based on data from two data fields.
Here's the logic:
True: If [PP] = "WG" or "WS" or "WL" and If [GR] > 10 Then "Skilled" or
[GR] Between 6-9 Then "Semi - Skilled" or [GR] <6 Then "Unskilled"
False: "GS"

Thanks.

I am trying to create an expression in a query to sum only the # of hours a student attended between two date fields. I do not want to use a parameter because each student has different start and midpoint dates and I need to see all of them in one list. These are the fields I'm using in the query:
Student Name
Start Date
Midpoint Date
Hours
It keeps giving me "0" or if I move the () around it says the correct syntax is [NOT]
Expr1: Sum([Hours]) between [Start Date] & [Midpoint]))

I have a query (Inventory Transactions Extended) in which i am trying to caculate current stock.
I have a form (Inventory Transactions Form) where i either add or remove Inventory Items.
I have used this statement to create a new field (Actual Quantity) to calculate current stock based on stock been added and removed:
Code:
Actual Quantity: IIf([Transaction Types].[Add/Remove]="Addition";[Inventory Transactions]![Quantity];-([Inventory Transactions]![Quantity]))
for some reason it does not work. It is not calculating current stock. If i remove stock it shows a negative amount based on the amount i removed, and when i add stock it shows a positive amount based on what i added
I have attached a sample.

I have created a form based on a query. The funny thing is when I tried to sort fields on the form, the following message box pops up:
Syntax Error (Missing Operator) In (Field Name)
I just did the exact same thing several weeks ago, and that first form could sort fields normally. The only difference between the first one and this is that this second query was based on several tables, while the first was based on a single table, although I doubt that is where the problem is.
I forgot to add that I could sort fields where the field name doesn't have spaces in it. For example, the field name "Customer ID" triggers the syntax error, while the field "S/N", "Company", etc. can be sorted like normal.

I have a query where these are the fields:
ProductRevType
RevLag
RevFlowThru
CloseMoYr
ProjRevDate
CurrentMRC
ProjRevMRC
The ProjRevMRC field is an expression that reads:ProjRevMRC: IIf([ProjRevDate]>=DateSerial(Year(Date()),Month(Date()),1),[CurrentMRC]*[qry303a_ SFADetailMRC_ONLY]![Rev Flow Through],0)
When I run the query, it works perfectly, but when I created a crosstab query to show totals by month, I wanted the totals to be zero for the months less than the current month. Is there a way for the crosstab query to execute the expression and put zeroes for those months?

how to optimize a query expression. I have the below query that determines the employees rate, based on which bracket their total income falls into. I'm concerned that I have not writting this expression in the most efficient manner.

In a table I have a field that gets its value from a lookup with multiple columns. Is it possible to query information in the columns rather than the actual value.
Here is an example of a single field value in the table I want to query (this would be in a drop down box in the table):
ID | Name
1 Nick
2 Nick
The actual values are the 1 and 2, but I would like to query the name 'Nick'. How would I do this?

I'm looking for an expression or SQL for use in a query that will count the number of columns in another query. I do not need to count the records, I just need to know how many columns. I can't seem to locate a reference to a column count - everything points me to record count.

I am creating a database to analyze prices. I have 2 tables. One table has a bunch of dates, product names and the prices. There are many of the same dates and many of the same products. I.E. a product could get priced one day and than have a different price the next day.The other table has a bunch of information and dates and product names also. The goal is to add a week to the dates in this table and use that date and product name to look up the corresponding price for that date and product and add it to the record.
I am trying to use Dlookup but evey record is then filled with the same price. I am using this Expr1: DLookUp("Price","Qry_Historic_Price","[Date]=#[End Period]# And primary_id ='[primary_id']")...When I run the query I get a message that says "Syntax error in query expression" than a message box that pops and says "Unknown" with only "ok" to click.

Access and receive the following message after trying to run a query: Syntax error (comma) in query expression, followed by the formula I wrote on the Query Builder. I use 4 tables to run the query, but only need to trim some stuff from one of them. This table is called BD_lamosa_corregida and have already selected Expression on the Total row in Design View. This is the formula:
parte: Trim(IIf(IIf(IsError(InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1)),"",InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1))="",[Parte],Left([Parte],IIf(IsError(InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1)),"",InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1))-1)))
The formula is trying to trim the left side of an expression (Part description) which may contain a code number in parenthesis or not, it might also have this parenthesis separated by a space or not.

I have an expression that sets an AI Buy It Now value that is 125% of AI Value and rounds it, which follows AI Buy It Now: Round(([AI Value]*1.25)/10)*10
I need to add to this expression that I only want this calculation applied if AI Values are greater than 999. But I can't figure out how to add this stipulation to the above expression. I have tried IIF but it is not working.

I have a field created in a query expression
BirthMon: Format([DOB],"mmmm")
I would like to create another field in the query using DLookup to return the value of the BrithMon.
BrithMonthID=DLookUp("MonID","tblListMons","BirthM on = Mon")
This works good if used with an unbound text box on a form, but when entered into a query expressions, an error is returned: cannot find the name 'BirthMon'
Can I used DLookUp in a Query expression to refer to another Query created field?

I've can do this on excel but don't know how in Access. I'm calculating bonuses. My table has salaries, and my query simply multiples each salary amount by a % to get the bonus amount. But I need to calculate adjustments to the bonuses using the sum total of the bonuses my query calculated:
Salary (from table) Bonus (calc'd by query) Adjustment (to be calced)
100,000 1,000 Sum of total bonuses/salary*4%
90,000 900
How do I capture the total of my calculated bonus column to use to calculate the adjustments in my right-most column?

I'm trying to run a very basic iif statement to correct hourly data for sorting. Basically, a trading day runs from 8am - 8am, so I need to adjust the hours to ensure that 1am on the 15th trading day (really the 16th on the calendar), comes after 9am on the 15th trading day (which will actually be the 15th on the calendar).
Here's what I've used. It's driving me bananas, because it keeps telling me that there's a syntax error (comma) in the query expression, but I can't understand why?
Sort2: IIf([DELIVERY_HOUR]<8,[DELIVERY_HOUR]+24,[DELIVERY_HOUR])
