Queries :: Filtering Between Two Dates
Oct 26, 2013
I have an issue with the database im working on:
I want to filter a listbox on a form to a user defined range entered into two text boxes
I have tried entering this into a query for [Date of Breakdown] but when i do so the form goes is blank!?
Between [Forms]![frmMachineDowntime]![txtfromdate] And [Forms]![frmMachineDowntime]![txttodate]
I already have a filter for the query which filters the listbox to display results for a specific machine which works fine
I have attached the form, table, query in this post, how to achieve this.
How to avoid getting a blank form should their search return no results.

I've filtered a listbox query between two dates selected by a user through an unbound text, however the listbox only changes after you click it. I've requeried it after someone updates the 2 unbound date textboxes, yet it still doesn't work.

hi!
i tried searching the forum for a possible solution to my problem. unfortunately, no luck so far.
Here's my problem.
i'm working with a linked table in access with a date field (service_dt) formatted as a text. if i open the table, the date shows up as 1-Jan-2006. i use this table to populate a report.
im trying to filter the report so that it would show records that have a specific date range.
here's what i write on the filter of the report:
service_dt Between #01/01/2006# and #12/31/2006#
unfortunately, its not filtering properly.
i would appreciate any thoughts.
thanks.

I am trying to get fields highlighted when they are due. In my report I have dates listed by month they have been on stability. I need to highlight the date when the month/year is current. Example in the report the 12 Month column is all due in Oct of 2005, I would like for it to be yellow to designate it different from the other date columns. I have tried the conditional formatting with:
field value is between DateSerial(Year(Date()),Month(Date()),1) And DateSerial(Year(Date()),Month(Date()),31)
This works well for everything, except that it is not specific to the current year only. It will pull dates in Oct 2006 as well.
I would also like to generate a report that will use a similar filter to add to my queries that would only print the due dates. I can insert this same code, but need to refine it to only show the month due, not every pull date for the particular record. So on a new report I can have Lot XYZ with pull dates for only 12 Month, which is the current month.
Thoughts?
Please help, I am in a time cruch.
Thanks.

I've restructured my 'application' to have one table and a lot of query/forms. In light of not figuring out the combo box situation I altered the requirements and what I needed thinking I may have an easier go of it, but alas not exactly my experience. I have 5 reports that I want to filter them by week(start of the week). I have a function which can turn any regular date entered to the start day of the week(monday). I thought my best way about this would be to fill a combo box with all the accepted dates through a separate table's column.
Is there a way to pop a dialog box when the user clicks to generate the report that will prompt them to choose a week then run that criteria against the report and only bring back that date?

Why Access 2010 will filter some dates and not others?? When I try to filter 12/02/2014 it will not work and I have to use 12/feb/2014 but if I use 13/02/2014 it is fine...

I have built a query to calculate the expiry dates of training courses but I am trying to input a criteria so that only dates within 90 days of todays date show. I am using Date()<90 but it doesn't return the correct information. What the criteria should be for this?

I have a table of records, which has within it two date fields (effectively, a 'start' and 'end' date for that particular record)
I now need to create a query to perform a calculation for each date between the 'start' date and the 'end' date
So the first step (as I see it anyway) is to try to create a query which will give me each date between the two reference dates, in the hope that I can then JOIN that onto another query to perform the necessary calculation for each of the returned dates.
Is there a way to do this?
So basically, if for a particular record, the 'start' date is 01-Apr-2015 and the 'end' date is 09-Apr-2015, can I produce a dataset of 9 records as follows :01-Apr-2015
02-Apr-2015
03-Apr-2015
04-Apr-2015
05-Apr-2015
06-Apr-2015
07-Apr-2015
08-Apr-2015
09-Apr-2015
(The *obvious* solution would be to create a separate table of dates, from which I could just SELECT DISTINCT <Date> Between #04/01/2015# And #04/09/2015# - but that seems like a dreadful waste of space, if that table is only required to generate the above? And it would have to cover all possible options; so it would either have to be massive, and contain every possible date - ever! - or maintained, adding new dates as necessary when they are required. Seems horribly inefficient!)
Is it possible to just select each date between the two reference dates? Or can you only query something which exists somewhere in a table?

I have two tables with dates. Between (!) every two following dates in table1, I want to know the number of dates in table2. How do I write an SQL query for this? The tables I have are up to a few hundred records in table 1 and a few thousand records in table2. So to prevent that this takes hours I need a fast query.
To explain the query I need, for example:
table1
01/01/2014
15/01/2014
17/01/2014
30/01/2014
table2
01/01/2014
02/01/2014
05/01/2014
17/01/2014
18/01/2014
20/01/2014
21/01/2014
25/01/2014
So the answer of the query would be 2,0,4.
Explanation:
Between 01/01/2014 and 15/01/2014 in table 1 there are 2 dates in table2 (01/01/2014 is not included between the dates)
Between 15/01/2014 and 17/01/2014 in table 1 there are 0 dates in table 2
Between 17/01/2014 and 30/01/2014 in table 1 there are 4 dates in table 2

I have a query that feeds a report. This report shows a "Set" and the "Charge Numbers" associated with it. Each set could have a possibility of more than one set of IT numbers. This means there could be say 2 entries for set "D7" and IT numbers for both of them.
As a result when I run the query, and say the set has 2 Charge numbers, it will bring back 2 results, with 2 charge numbers on each of them, which is correct. So if a set had 4 charge numbers assigned to it, 4 results would show with 4 charge numbers for each result.
Is there any way I can make it only show one of those results as they are identical?
I know this is confusing, bare with me

I have a username combobox and a number combobox filtering a subform. If there is a userName but no number I want to pull all the records for that userName regardless of number and vice versa with a number and no userName. And if they both have something then both are being used for the filter.
I have been trying iff statements and isnull in query criteria and cant seem to find what I need.

I have a query that shows member check-ins to a fitness facility. Customer scans their membership card and it logs their customer id, scan date/time (date and time are one field), name, etc. Sometimes the customer will scan their card multiple times if they've left and come back, but I only want to count their first scan. I have a second query that runs off of this one and counts visits by hour for a date range.
So my question is, how do I filter out subsequent scans on each day in a query and how do a I do that when running the query for multiple days? So in the multi-day query I want to count each day they came, but only the first scan of each day? How to do this in the query design grid...

I have a database with a table of employees, and that has a column named "DaysOff", into which I type a couple of days like this: "SUNDAY AND MONDAY"
Next, I have a form onto which I will display a query of those employees. The form contains a field called DATE in which I display the mm/dd/yyyy date. What I want to do is this:
I only want those employees that have a DaysOff field that DOES NOT CONTAIN the WEEKDAY NAME of the date in the DATE field. So, for instance, if the DATE field read 2/22/2014, and I have three employees as such:
Employee 1 DaysOff "Monday and Tuesday"
Employee 2 DaysOff "Friday and Saturday"
Employee 3 DaysOff "Sunday and Monday"
In that case, ONLY EMPLOYEES 1 and 3 should show up. Employee 2 will NOT show up, because his DaysOff field contains the word "Saturday", and the WEEKDAY FORMATTED value of the DATE field is "Saturday"
I hope that's not too confusing. Again, this needs to be the filter criteria for the query. That query will only return a list of employees that are NOT off on the day in question. If one of their off days is the day in question, the query won't return that record.
I've tried a few things, but I can't get it to work. If you want, I can list the various things I've tried, but I imagine one of you knows exactly how to do what I need to do, and you won't need my feeble attempts as a springboard.

I have a form named form1. In the form I have two unbound text boxes formated as general date; startdate and enddate are the text box names. In my query criteria for the ContactDateTime field I put the following code
Code:
[Forms]![Form1]![StartDate] And [Forms]![Form1]![EndDate]
When I run it I don't get any results. So it runs but no records come up. I have about five queries that run when I click a button and I want to be able to just select start and end dates once on the form and have all the quieries run.

I have a query that carries all the properties in our database, and data for when our company 'worked on' properties. Each property falls within a certain province and municipality (this is slightly irrelevant info) , we worked on properties in a period from 2009 - 2013/06/30 this period is called '2009', and we have again worked on properties during a period 2013/07/01 onward - this period is called '2013'.
Now I require this query to display all the properties, but only the entries in certain fields, that relate to '2013'.
I have about 7 fields where this date (either 2009 or 2013) can be displayed, I tried to filter them all simultaneously by using the criteria: Is Null Or "2013", in every one of these fields, but this criteria results in me losing entire records that contained 2009 data, instead of the data simply not being displayed. Even in cases where some of the 'date' fields contained 2013.
How I can keep all records but simply display info relating to work we did in the 2013 period?

I have some filtering criteria in a query that is based on some unbound text boxes in a form. These text boxes contain start and end dates. This form is not based on any table or query. All controls are unbound.
The query functions properly initially, however, I am programmatically changing the values of the unbound text boxes in the form that are used by the query. After their values have changed, the query doesn't seem to recognize the change and therefore returns no values. If I manually change the the values in the text boxes and run the query it works fine. However, I would like to avoid doing it this way, if at all possible.
After programmatically changing the values of the unbound text boxes, I tried setting the focus to the text boxes, setting the focus to other controls, refreshing the form, requering the form, requerying the text box, so forth and so on.

I am trying to use a criteria to filter out nulls in concatenated variable, which slows the query considerably. The part that makes it slow looks like this -
WHERE ... AND (([tbl1].[x] & [tbl1].[y]) <> "") AND ...
If I work them individually, it's not a problem, the query is fast, but I have to combine them first in order to produce the correct output.

I am creating a query that should filter records of events based on multiple fields. The filters should work with any combination of field criteria, but only two of the four field are working properly, as follows:
1. a text box for searching with event name (free text) - this is working;
2. a combo box to filter events by country name - this is working;
3. a combo box to filter events by event's keyword (category) - this is NOT working;
4. a combo box to filter events by year - this is NOT working

Access version: 2013 / The user can click a button on the report that opens a form where they can select various filters. Once the user has selected the filters and clicks done, I have some VB code that fires which builds an SQL string with all of the filters selected. It then reopens the report with the new filter.
What I am running into issues with is one specific filter that the user can select. They can select a "from date" and "to date". Sometimes this filter returns what I want and sometimes it doesn't.
For example. I set 01/01/14 as the start date and end date as 15/01/14. <-- this works as desired. But if I put start date as 10/12/13 and end date 15/01/14 for example then it returns all previous records up to the specified end date. I.E dates such as 10/10/13 will show.
This is the VB code used to build the SQL for this filter:
Code:
newWhere = newWhere & "[FollowUpDate] > #" & Me.txtFromDateSelect & "# AND [FollowUpDate] < #" & Me.txtToDateSelect & "#" & " AND "
note: I have also tried using the between SQL syntax for querying the date to no avail and the same results.
This is the SQL that the above code creates:
Code:
[FollowUpDate] > #1/01/2014# AND [FollowUpDate] < #15/01/2014#
This only happens when I try select a start date prior to 12/12/13 (so the year is not the issue)
This happens both when I apply just the from date and to date filter and also when I mix it in with other filters. I.E Company name, product etc..

I'm taking my first database class and I'm working on a hospital project in which I need to determine which pair (one doctor and one nurse) has a decremental performance as weeks go on.
I have an "r" and "s" queries.
These are the fields:
r: [DOCID,NURSEID, WEEK, RESULT]
s: [WEEK, RESULT]
I would like to find what pair had a "Good" result in week 1, "Average" in week 2, and "Bad" in week 3. My problem is that the results need to be in this specific order.
The professor told us to use a formula and I got the solution after building 6 queries that involved union, difference, and cartesian.

Tried to find things but being a mix of a couple of different actions havn't been able to actually find it
So basically I found a awesome form somewhere that builds the SQL query based on all the users selections.
When you hit the create button it will save the query and update the sub data sheet below with your query results.
From here the part I'm lost on is getting the TOP x number of records and moving them to a new table, I wanted it to work on the 2 drop down boxes that are on the form. select your values and hit the button.
I'd imagine it would be a sub query that I'd use for the top x like I have in the past but I just can't seem to get it to work
Quick steps
1. create your query
2. check your data in the sub datasheet
3. decide the number of records to move to the new table
4. select the name
5. hit the button
This would copy the ban, xcv & dfs fields from the importeddata table to the moverecordshere table & also update persname in the moverecordshere table with the name selected in the form.
Sample db attached ....

I have a form (DropDown form) that has 3 drop down fields, you select your values from the drop downs and you would push a command button that runs an event procedure which runs a query (DropDown qry test). The user should have the option of picking any combination of fields to filter by. Or no combination, which would return all values in all fields. So I am basically using the form as parameter's for the query.
The problem I'm having is that my query is returning values for one field AND values for another field. Even if the other values selected are not in the same record. It's not combining the fields together to filter. For example: you pick a Project name and Supplier name, the query will return records that have the project name you selected but it will also return records with the supplier name you selected that have a different project name.
I've attached screen shots of the form and the design view of the query (the screen shot cut off the last column name. It is meant to say "Expr3: [Forms]![DropDown form]![Combo7]").
Using Windows 7,
Access 2010
Is there a way to select multiple values from the drop downs?

I have written a large number of queries to gather data for a quarterly monitoring form. How do I replace the dates to update them for next quarter. For example I have written a query which counts the number of new members who started in the period 01/04/2013 to 31/07/2013. How can I change this (and the other 200 queries) without opening them all individually and manually altering it. Is there an Access equivalent of Word's Find and Replace?By the way I am using Access 2000.

I need to create an expression that will limit the results of my query. I only want to display all records where 'Completed' date falls within the following criteria: Between the 1st April and the end of last month. I do not want to include this month, because by definitiion it is not complete - not a full month.
My head's just a bit mashed and I can hardly begin to work this out.
If you can help me out, I'd appreciate it.
If you have the time I would also like to find the average number of records completed per month as so will need to somehow determine the number of full months between the 1st April this year and today.
Thanks,
Owen.

I have set up an Attendance database at work, where a record is created for each member of staff when they are absent. The tables are set up as follows:
[tblStaff]: StaffID, FirstName, Surname, Team, JobTitle
[tblAbsence]: StaffID, StartDate, EndDate, Issue
What I want to be able to do is set up a query to search for a reason for absence on a certain date (btw my date format is set at dd/mm/yyyy). The problem I have is if the user needs to check a date in between the start and end date i.e. Start Date is 11/11/2005 end date is 11/12/2005 and the user checks on 01/12/2005 then this record will be found.
I know there is a simple way to do this but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
