Queries :: Finding Top Three Values In Six Fields?
Oct 3, 2013
I'm doing a medical db, where I'm trying to calculate ISS
Code:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injury_Severity_Score
There are 6 values, and i have to sum the largest three (squares to be precise). How can I get three highest values from 6 fields in the same record?

Hi All,
How can I report on records which have uppercase values in a record. The data I have in the table is a mixture of Titlecase and UPPERCASE. I need to report on the uppercase values.
Thanks,
Evan

I am trying to create a DB that would calculate the totals of different projects and also calculate the global total (i.e. the total of all the projects combined together)
So far I have created a query that can calculate the total of the projects in a field which I have named Total1. But now I want to calculate the sum of the field Total1, i.e. add all the totals of the projects up.
Sorry my explanation does seem quite lengthy, any help would be much appreciated.

I'm creating a query which pulls together the numerical values of 32 separate fields. Each field has the potential to have a value in it ranging between 1 and 9, but most fields will be blank.
I want to prefix the value (if the value is not null) with a 2 or 3 character-long code relating to the field name.I then want to combine them all together in a query so I can easily copy and paste the output to a spreadsheet. Here is what I have so far, with just 9 of the field names, and it's already looking a bit clunky.
Code:
IIf(IsNull([zam_adm]),"","ADM") & [zam_adm] & " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_cts]),"","CTS") & [zam_cts] & " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_crs]),"","CRS") & [zam_crs]& " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_IPB]),"","IPB") & [zam_IPB]& " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_opr]),"","OPR") & [zam_opr]& " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_owl]),"","OWL") & [zam_owl]& " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_pmi]),"","PMI") & [zam_pmi]& " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_wl]),"","WL") & [zam_wl]& " " &
IIf(IsNull([zam_sgt]),"","SGT") & [zam_sgt]
The output, unfortunately, is putting spaces between empty fields and I'm not sure how to prevent this in the syntax?

I've got a table with data that's been imported from Excel. I need to run a query that pulls the same values of field one and adds the values of field 2. For instance:
Field 1; Field 2
Jones; 200
Smith;150
Jones; 300
Smith;100
In this example, I need the sum of field 2 for the records where Jones is the value in field 1.
So the result in this case is that records where Field 1 = Jones, Field 2 = 500.

I created a simple calculation query to add the values of three fields:
Program_Cost, Auditorium_Cost and Millage_Fee.
I followed the steps found here: [URL] ....
But it doesn't work. The query pulls the values for the relevant fields but doesn't actually calculate the total. What am I doing wrong? Here's the query's SQL:
SELECT [Event Information].Event_ID, Sum([Program_Cost]+[Millage_Fee]+[Auditorium_Cost]) AS Total_Cost, [Event Information].Program_Cost, [Event Information].Auditorium_Cost, [Event Information].Millage_Fee
FROM [Event Information]
GROUP BY [Event Information].Event_ID, [Event Information].Program_Cost, [Event Information].Auditorium_Cost, [Event Information].Millage_Fee;

i made a query to display students results after an exam. there are 12 subjects but a student chooses 8 from that. After an exam, the results are keyed in and a result slip is printed later. The problem is that the result slip displays all subjects including those not done by the student. I typed a criteria >0 in one of the fields and no records appeared. Is there a way that i can use to display only the subjects chosen and marks attained by a student and leave out the rest?

I have a query that performs some calculations, these calculations feed into another query and produce a final value. If there are no null values everything works perfectly. But when there are null values, I get errors.
What I have tried:
1) I tried to implement the Nz function for each field of the formula that is not calculated but from user input.
2) I tried to implement the Nz function for just the field that calculated the last result before feeding into the next query, but it didn't show the 0 value I gave.
3) I tried to use UPDATE TABLE SET in SQL, but I don't think I was using it right. I tried to use it for all records but always got an error when it ran.
The first two above result in showing no values at all, even if there are some. The third didn't work. How to easily update null values in the query to 0? All I could think of was to somehow use Criteria or SQL.

I have a query that pull data from hours worked fields that have values with decimal places. Hours is multiplied to rates to create my amount to charge in my query which is then displayed on my invoice report.
The issue is that when I sum my amount, my subtotal is off by $.01 due to the decimals entered for the hours worked (e.g. hours worked is 1.5*32.75=49.125)
I need the rounding to work in the query and display on my report as $49.13 and the subtotal to reflect it. I have the properties in my table as double with decimal place at 2, and my query and report properties with decimal place at 2 as well. It still isn't working.

I am using Access 2010 32-bit on a Windows 7 64-bit platform.I have a database that I have imported existing data into. For the most part, I have eliminated duplicate entries in my Item Number field.
Obviously I have missed at least one (or possibly more) duplicates. When I try to create a NO DUPLICATES index, I am informed that there are duplicate entries.I am looking for a quick way to generate a list of values that are duplicated so I can address those and correct them.Item number field is a number field of type DOUBLE with 2 decimal places.

I have a query which returns, among other things, a number of boolean fields. In some cases, there will be a genuine True or False value in each of these fields; in others, it can and should be Null (e.g. as a result of a 'failed' LEFT JOIN of some description, where there is no associated record in the joined table which fulfills the criteria)
So something like this :
Code:
SELECT [tblTable2].[fldBooleanField]....
FROM [tblTable1]
LEFT JOIN [tblTable2]
ON [tblTable1].[SomeID] = [tblTable2].[SomeID]
However, I will be writing the result of the query to a text file and here's the problem. I want to show a numeric value for a genuine True / False (i.e. -1 and 0 respectively using the standard boolean conversions in Access) and a blank for any Null values.
So I tried this :
Code:
SELECT CInt([tblTable2].[fldBooleanField]) AS fldBooleanField....
FROM [tblTable1]
LEFT JOIN [tblTable2]
ON [tblTable1].[SomeID] = [tblTable2].[SomeID]
However, currently when I look at the exported recordset in Notepad, I am getting 0's for both False and Null values (and -1 for True)
How I can adapt my query to keep Nulls...null? And convert the genuinely present boolean values to integer form?
Only thing I can think of is to use (untested) :
Code:
IIf([tblTable2].[fldBooleanField] Is Null, Null, CInt([tblTable2].[fldBooleanField]))
But there's a number of boolean fields in there, all requiring the same treatment.

I've been looking everywhere to find a better way of finding duplicates in a table and then recording and adding another value in that record together.
Let me try to explain better.
example:
I have a table that has 2 columns "Name", "DOB". I would like to find all duplicate "DOB" and add all of the "Name"'s together.
Quote:
Name DOB
bob 19800201
Sam 19761211
Jim 19800201
The output I would like is to have Name = bob & Jim DOB = 19800201.
I've tried using the find duplicate wizard in access but I can't seem to group them together and just to find the duplicates it takes upwards of a minute.

Sorry for the question's wording.
Here is what bugs me:
- I have one table tblRefctc with the followings fields :
LCtcRef,../..,LRefServ0, LrefServ1,..LrefServ16.
Where all those Lref are long; LCtcRef being the primary key. This table describe a contact from different branches (account, etc..) so while each branch has the relevant information about this contact, they know that that branch too is in contact with the same person.
- I have this other table with describes Events, TblIdxEvt (meeting, whatever) :
LRefidx,IdxEvt,IdxCtc
where IdxCtc is filled with LCtcRef once an event is created.
What I must check for is : For the same IdxEvt, should another branch makes an appointement for LCtcRef (i), I must check if one of the LRefServ0 to LRefServ16 are not already added in the event table.
At this time, I am stuck with making functions which test the existence of the LRefServ(i) (i ranging from 0 to 16) in tblIdxEvt, but I wonder if there is a simpler way to do it with SQL (which, as you could guess, Im not good at).
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Hi
This is my first post and i searched to try and find an answer on the forums but can't seem to find one so thought i'd ask to see if anyone is able to help. Sorry if this has been answered before and i've been a bit thick not been able to find it. anyway here's my question...
I have 2 fields i want to check in my database DOB1 and DOB2 (date of birth of applicant 1 and date of birth of applicant 2.
i've written a query that looks for any records where the data in DOB1 and DOB2 match the data in another record for DOB1 and DOB2. i hope that makes sense. this is what i've written.
In (SELECT [App1 DOB] FROM [Data] As Tmp GROUP BY [App1 DOB],[App2 DOB] HAVING Count(*)>1 And [App2 DOB] = [Data].[App2 DOB])
this seems to work but please feel free to correct me.
Now the part i'm struggling with is trying to find duplicates where the fields have been reversed. eg App1 DOB and App2 DOB are the same as App1 DOB and App2 DOB in another record but applicant 1's Date of birth has been stored as Applicant 2 and Applicant 2 is now stored as Applicant 1. i hope thats not to confusing.
Basically i'm trying to check for duplicate mortgage applications in the database but sometimes applicant 1 and applicant 2 are reversed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a MS Access 2000 database with 136 data tables in it. What I would like to do is execute a piece of VBA code which will list for me in another table, (for example: Field1: TABLE NAME Field2: FIELD NAME 1 Field2: FIELD NAME2 etc), starting left to right, how many fields would have to be combined in each table to represent a unique record.
For instance:
TYPE ID TEXT
1 1 "Cats"
1 2 "Dogs"
2 1 "Rabbits"
In this example a combination of the fields TYPE and ID give a unique record.
Any help most appreciated.

I have a table with assignments if employees to teams.
PositionsID(autowert),EmployeeID, timefrom, timeto, TeamNo
3, 123, 13:30, 16:45, 4
4, 123, 17:00, 19:00, 7
5, 432, 17:00, 20:00, 8
6, 987, 17:00, 19:00, 9
7, 987, 13:30, 16:45, 5
....
Some of the employees can be assigned to more than one team, the assignement is not chronicaly, meaning an earlier timefrom can be assigned later (see Employee 987)
As a resultlist I need following:
123, 13:30, 19:00, 4
432, 17:00, 20:00, 8
987, 13:30, 19:00, 5
I can get out MIN(timefrom) and MAX(timeto) per EmployeeID but not the first teamNo, which is the first team he starts his duty!!

I have a table in Access that looks like:
fiscal_year acct_period loc_rc account afe description amount system
2015 6 01001028 745003 100050652John A Doe -69.72 E
2015 6 01001028 745003 100086599Jane Doe -33.37 E
2015 6 01001028 745003 100086599Jane Doe -587.69 E
2015 6 01001028 745003 994709 AP - EXPRPT050815SG - Jane Doe - 1 33.37 L
2015 6 01001028 745003 994709 AP - EXPRPT050815SG - Jane Doe - 2 587.69 L
2015 6 01001028 745003 994709 AP - EXPRPT05
2115PK - John A Doe - 1 69.72 L
2015 6 01001028 745006 100048910KROGER -389.74 E
It's combining data from 2 system Identified by E or L. The data is similar but not exact & I'm comparing it using the description. What I need Access to do is find the record that doesn't "zero-out". In the example above the record it should pull is the last one "Kroger $389.74". How to do this but I do have a query/report that will subtotal based on the LOC-RC field.

L-0003 C-6000 C-8000 C-9000
L-0004 C-5000
how I have to make this query?

I need to create a query that will pull duplicate names out of my db.
I would like it to pull all names that have:
duplicate LastName and duplicates of the first 3 letters of the FirstName.
For example, if I had the names:
Bland, Abe
Brown, Abe
Brown, Bill
Buster, Jon
Buster, Jonathon
I would like my query to return only Buster, Jon and Buster, Jonathon.

I have a table tbl_PolicyDetails with details of the policy the customers have with us.. In the tbl_PolicyDetails, I have two fields (these are the ones in question) called
"policyStarted" - Start Date of a Policy and
"policyPeriod" - Term of Policy Monthly/Annually/Quarterly
So in a Form view I just get the Next installment for the customer based on this information for display.. For example..
Mr Butters Stotch's policy started on 26/04/2013 and is paying Quarterly; the next (i.e. 2nd) installment would be on 26/07/2013..
Ms Wendy Testaburger's policy started on 07/04/2013 and is paying Monthly; the next (i,e. 3rd) installment would be on 07/06/2013..
This is not hard to get.. I have that sorted.. But the problem is, my manager wants to be able to specify two dates and search all policies that will be 'paying in' that Date range should be picked up..
So if the search range happens to be.. 01/07/2013 and 31/07/2013 Then Mr Butters Stotch's policy should be picked up, as his next installment falls on 26/07/2013.. Since this information is not stored, I cannot run a direct Query on this.. Also as the Installment number varies for each customer, I would not be able to just add 1 - Month or Quarter or Annum, and see if the date falls in that range..

I have a table with associate names and rankings for each month. I need some way to find out which associates appear in 2 consecutive months with a certain rating. I have a query that will allow you to key in which month you want to look at, but I can't figure out how to write the query to return results only for those associates that appear twice in the months chosen. For example:
John Doe was rated 1.5 in May and 3 in June.
Jane Doe was rated a 1.5 in May and 1.5 in June.
I want a query that will allow me to put in May and June as the criteria as well as < 2 for the rating and only return those that show in both months...
