Queries :: How To Add Populated Text Field At Make Table Run
Nov 3, 2014
I can add to my make table query UDate: Date() that will add a populated field to the output table that has today's date in it.
I can also add something similar like this for example V_Num: [V_Number] and when ran, will prompt with a dialogue box to add some data, it will then create the table with that new field name and populated with the text from the dialogue box.
But how can I automate this to skip the dialogue box and just add it to the expression?

I am trying to create a query that returns records whether a field has data or not...
There are three fields in question, SSN, DOB (this is a date field), POB (this is a foreign key representing a state in the query shows the actual state). Now unless the criterion is different then I just need the answer for one I can reproduce.
I would like to do this in the criteria box in the query.
The query pulls from one table, some of the employees in this table have the three fields populated some don't. I would like the query to return all employees...

I have a table with multiple fields and each record in the table may not have data for all fields. I need to write a query that will pull only the fields that are populated for each record from the table.

I'm sub-novice when it comes to Access I'm trying to get calculated data in a field in a sub table to autofill in a field in a related table. So all of the data in 'total hours' column is calculated by the variable inputs in the 'hours' fields. Once there, I want it to feed itself into the 'total hours' field on the main table. Is that possible? Also - the 'total hours' field in the sub table won't calculate anything unless a value is placed in EVERY 'hours' field in the same sub table (e.g. 0).

I have a table that has a date field set to text. I use the Mid function and get just the month in a query. I have a textbox on a form that when the user adds a month or removes a month from a selected listbox it adds or removes that months number from the textbox.
I want to us that text box on the form as the criteria for the month (the Mid function getting the month) and I can seem to get it to read what's in the textbox and use it as the criteria. I can manually type in a number and it works fine.

I have 2 fields in a query which I want to write to a table. Eg ProductName (field length 10) and Product Code (field length 5) the fields need to be filled out so the length makes the maximum text
For example product name 'test' length is 4 i have to add 0 to make the length to 10 so the field will be 000000test same thing applies to Product code. I have 700 records like this, is there a way in VBA where it adds the extra text to make it the maximum length.

I want to be able to able to change the data on each form and save separately.I have Table with Tech Initials(PK), Full Name(689), CellNum(691), TestGaugeSN(630) and Cal Exp Date(632). Want to use Tech Initials to populate the rest.
Here's what I'm using:
Private Sub Combo687_AfterUpdate()
Me.Text689 = Me.Combo687.Column(1)
Me.Text691 = Me.Combo687.Column(2)

Me.Text635 = Me.Combo687.Column(4)

I am just querying a single table, no relationship involved with another table. As you can see form the attached jpeg, the ZIP field in some cases is empty. I would run a search using Is NULL but the field is NOT numerical. It's a long story but I had to make this field a TEXT field. Basically, what statement do I have to insert in the criteria field to just pull up the EMPTY ZIP fields?

I have a calculated field which consists of a few other fields concatenated, i.e. [field1] = [field2] & [field3] & [field4].
I need field 1 to be unique when its concatenated, but fields2-4 don't need to be unique. Is there a way to do this?

How does one store the value derived from a combo box to another text box in a form?E.g. Supplier name is a combo box. The combo box has 2 columns, supplier and supplier ID.the supplier name stores the supplier in its own text box.When you select the supplier, the supplierID appears in another text box.I need to store this supplier ID.The control source is =[suppliername].[column](1) When I look up the table, the supplier is captured in the supplier name but the supplierID is not captured in the supplier ID field.

Thanks for looking!
I'm using a query to export a table to a text file, i.e.
SELECT * INTO [Text;HDR=No;Database=C:].[test#txt]
FROM [TestTbl]
Text fields end up surrounded by double quotes as a text qualifier. Is there a property I can use to get rid of the text qualifier within the SQL (similar to how HDR=No gets rid of the headers)?
I've tried searching and guessing, but nothing has worked yet. Thanks!

I am using MS Access 2007 and have a report which display the list of values (say 10 fields) from the basic SELECT * FROM table query.
I need to dynamically set the BOLD based on the particular value for the fifth field which was assigned from Query. if it doesn't match it should display normal.
E.g
If Field_5 = "Agent" then
Field_5.FontBold = True
Else
Field_5.FontBold = False
End if
I tried the aforementioned code and it dont work. ALso i tried achieve it using below listed options.
Me.Field_5.FontBold = True
Field_5.Properties("fontweight") = 700
But nothing worked.

I'm creating a database that keeps a track of questions and scores.
The questions in the database need to be dynamic and are changed frequently.
I have a scorecard table which keeps a record of scores and the applicable question at the time the record was saved. I need to do this because in 6 months time we may want to provide feedback. As the question may have changed we need to be able to refer back to what the question was.
I want the question field in my scorecard table to populate with the value in my question table.
I have tried a number of things including setting the question field in the scorecard table to a lookup based on the following query:
SELECT tblQ1.Q1
FROM tblQ1;
This works however only as a list or combo box. I don't want the user to have to select the question. I want it to auto populate, is this possible?

Table2 contain Two fields (3Months) and (6Months)
the table 2 is the source of a form that will let the user change the numbers. table 1 should change Date1 and Date2 Fields based on the two fields (3months) and (6months) if i want to make a lookup wizard it should be changed manually and if i make a calculated field i can't find other tables in the expression builder

I have what is probably a stupid question but I've been struggling with this one for a while. I have an ordering database which has an Orders table (containing Order ID, Date, Supplier etc) and an Order Line table within which I have a combo box for Product name, supplier, price, VAT rate, Line price etc. At the moment, I have the order line table as a subform within the Order form (run from the Orders table). The problem I'm having is the subtotal and total fields. At the moment these are in the Order Line table as I cannot figure out how to get these in the Orders table. In summary, can I make a calculated field in one table that calculates values from another table (linked by Order ID)?

Hi,
This is my first post. Thank you for reading it. And thank you in advance for your assistance.
I have an invoice table and a payments table. One invoice can have many payments (a deposit, final payment etc). The relationship is created.
I have a form with tabs that hold subforms. One of the tabs contains fields from the Invoice Table (i.e. Invoice Number, Invoice Amount, Total Paid). One other tab has a subform that contacts fields from the Payments table (i.e. Invoice Number, Check Number, Check Amount). I would like to auto-populate the Total Paid field in the Invoice Tab with the SUM of the Check Amount from the Payments tab BY Invoice Number.
This doesnt seem to difficult but I'm having trouble with it. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

I know that this could open a can of worms but is the above statement true. I have always avoided using delet and append due to database bloat. I know its more difficult to set the field types in a make table query but it means that the database doesn’t need to be compacted nearly as much as delet and append.
If my understanding is incorrect please explain top me why delete and append are better.
Thanks

Hello All, I'm using MS Access 2003 for a web DB... Am wondering.. is it bad to use Make-Table queries for the web..? Or should I just do all the SQL joining and linking stuff just with more SQL code?
Just curious about the impact Make-Table queries have on the Web.. Slower? Not a good idea?
Thanks for any input you can give
John

I am trying to create a query that ONLY shows me the total count of each combo box choice for one field. It sounds very easy and I'm sure it is but everything I try tells me I am using the wrong syntax, or requires me to have rows when I only want column totals.
I have a combo box with a dropdown of 10 common places that people travel to. I want the report to ONLY show the total number of people who chose place 1, place 2, place 3... etc. But I always have to do according to date or time or something. I want it to look like this
Place 1 Place 2 Place 3 Place 4
13............36.........3........77
So essentially there would only be one row. But access will not let me. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is this not possible?

I have a number of tables in my database, and they're linked in with a form. I'd like to have a field in a form that's populated automatically based on what's inputted in a different field.For example, I've got one table with names and descriptions on widgets (name in column A, description in column B).
Widget 1 This widget is blue
Widget 2 This widget is green
Widget 3 This widget is yellow
When I'm in my form, I want when I select Widget 1 to have the corresponding text (This widget is blue) appear in a field below.

i would like to sum up 5 fields and save (or just show it in the form view is enough really) in a seperate field, i have managed to sum the 5 fields, but it summed up all 5 fields in all records, i'd like to have my form show the sum for the record, not the table.
it would be ideal that it would refresh when one of the 5 fields data changes, i.e from 1000 to 2000. again updating in the form view is what is needed.

I have a table called tbl_workorders. One of the fields on this table is optional but because the lookup table is on the one side of a 1-to-many relationship using an auto-number key it is requiring that this field be populated to create a record on the workorder table. This is a problem because the field is optional.
tbl_workorders
WorkOrrderID(PK)
Field1
Field2
Field3
Field4
JobSubtypeID (FK-many) <---- Lookup field
tbl_Subtypes
JobSubtypeID (PK-one)
SubtypeDesc
Should I set the SubtypeDesc field to a default value of "none"? I know this is storing unnecessary data, but is there another option?

I've been using a SELECT INTO statement to import data from a linked text file into a temporary table in Access. Something along the lines of :
SELECT [tblLink].[fld1] AS Field1,
[tblLink].[fld2] AS Field2,
[tblLink].[fld3] AS Field3
INTO [tblTemp]
FROM [tblLink]
(There's an INNER JOIN in there and some Nz / CLng functions but just want to keep it simple...)
Now - I've just realised I also need to create a couple of extra 'dummy' fields in my temporary table (for later on in the show) and I need them to be Yes/No format (will set them to False at first, then run some separate queries later to update them)
I tried this :
SELECT [tblLink].[fld1] AS Field1,
[tblLink].[fld2] AS Field2,
[tblLink].[fld3] AS Field3,
False AS Field4,
False AS Field5
INTO [tblTemp]
FROM [tblLink]
But this sets Field4 and Field5 as Number fields, with each record given a value of 0. What syntax is required in the SQL to make these fields Yes/No rather than Number?
