Queries :: Access Version Of Excel Sumif

Nov 4, 2013

I haven't used Access in a few years and am trying to replace an Excel spreadsheet with Access. One field in Excel looks at the prior record, if they are the same it doesn't update the current record. The excel command is: If($Y3 = $Y2, 0, sumif($y:$Y, $Y3, G:G)). Is there any easy way to do this with a query?

Java Access

Mar 9, 2006

I am making an application in Java and I want to use Access as the database.

I wanted to know if I had to handle record access or is this done automatically by Access.

for example, if one user is editing details for an employee and another user wants to access the same record, do I have to write the procedures to ensure that only one user can access this record or will this be hadled automatically by Access.

Default Value For Date/Time In MS ACCESS, Retrieve In Java

Sep 29, 2004

What is the proper way to store in a field if I want to store current date AND time as a timestamp. I chose Date/Time as the data type and General Date in the Format. Now I wanted a timestamp whenever a new row is added so I placed =Date() in the default value but it only shows me the date, not the time?

Second question if you know Java: I retrieve this date in a java.sql.date and .toString() shows me the correct result in the default format but when i use the DateFormat.format() method on it, i get a Null Pointer Exception. What could be the problem?

Queries :: Wildcards - Find Any Number Of Numeric Values

Oct 3, 2013

How do you search for any number of numeric characters using wildcards? The # symbol only searches for 1, and * obviously includes letters.

Example:
I have:
D1234
D3
D5336767
D123F

My search should only retrieve the first 3 values.

WHERE FieldName LIKE 'D[0-99999999]' does not seem to work.

Application Version Number

Dec 4, 2006

Is there a way of specifying the version number of an Access application?

e.g. In classic Visual Basic you can specify the version number in the "Project Properties" menu option and then use these values in code by doing an app.major, app.minor etc... (or something like that).

Is there an equivalent in MS Access?

Cheers,
Kabir

Queries :: Telephone Number Search Area Code (STD)

Oct 27, 2013

What I am trying to do is i have a list of area codes connected to other data

What I want to do is do a search on a telephone number and this will check against the area codes and diaplay the required info

Example

Area info1 info2
01234 ab cd
012345 ar mc
01235 fg tr

So if I put a number like 01234567890 in the search box the result it will show is 012345 ar mc as this si the closet match to the telephone number.

I did it in excel with
=INDEX(whatwouldbedisplayed,MATCH(searchinfo,rowof data,1))

Im not to sure if this can be done as a query so would it have to be a macro?

General :: Increment Database Version Number By 1

Feb 11, 2014

I am working on a section of code that when a user clicks a button it looks at a table called TBLVersion and increments the version number. The version number format is 1.0.1 what I need the code to do is increment the last digit by one for example to "1.0.2". I got the flowing code to work in excel but could not figure out how to translate it to access.

=LEN(A1)-SEARCH(".",A1,SEARCH(".",A1)+1)
=RIGHT(A1,B1)

Queries :: Find A Way For Access To Find Unique Dates And Unique Names?

Aug 1, 2014

I have been working on a simple data base for some time now (beginner level) and am still trying to improve it. I would like to do something but before that I would like to have your opinion to know if it is even possible?I have a query QryMainReport:

Start Date/Time
End Date/Time
Employee

At the moment this is what the format of my report looks like (I removed other unnecessary fields):

StartTime----------EndTime---------------Employee
12/06/2014 01:00--12/06/2014 03:00------John Smith
12/06/2014 04:00--12/06/2014 06:00------Jane Doe
13/06/2014 02:00--13/06/2014 05:00------John Smith
13/06/2014 08:00--13/06/2014 08:00------Jane Doe

I would like to do as a report. (Dates would always be from Sunday to Saturday). I am not sure it is possible to do that. I suppose first it would mean:I would have to do a query to separate the times from the dates?I would have to find a way for Access to find the unique dates and unique names?Does it mean I have to use cross tab queries?

What Version Of Access Do You Use?

Jul 16, 2005

Very General Question

What version of Access do you use?

And if you use Access 97, why do you choose to use that over that of Access 2000 or higher?

I am curious to find out the reasons.

As for me, I use Access 2003 all around.

Which Version Of Access To Use ?

Dec 17, 2006

Hello All

I have a database which is use at busy times to run the delivery side of our Floristry business. The orders are entered, assigned to a delivery area, address labels printed. When it comes to delivery day orders are selected from the list ticked off then printed a make a list for the driver.

It was built using Access 97 when it first came out. Since then the software was upgraded to Access 2000 many mods have been made each year to improve the performance and the number of things it can do. It now has about 15 tables and a lot of queries.
Not being an expert with Access a lot of the design has been on a trial and error basis. Put it another way the main form has many hidden fields to make things work behind the scenes. But it does most of what I want it to.
I have now go to the point where the main query is saying that I can't add any more features because I have to many fields in it.

So the time has come to look at re building it for a number of reasons.

1. It is a stand alone database on one Pc.......... I would like to have it on a network to 3 or 4 Pc's around the shop.
2. Some of it needs to be redesigned to take out my ( it might not be the way a designer would it but it does work) type bits.
3 I would like to be able to use the system for all orders received on a day to day basis. So it will need to be used by other people.

My question today is
Should I be looking to rebuilt it using Access 2003 + the extra software so that i can run it on more than one PC.

Or would it be better to wait few months till Acess 2007 comes out and start from scratch.

thanks

Kevin.

MS Access Version

Feb 5, 2007

Here is a question.

I go to the menu bar, Help->About MS Access

It's shown Microsoft Access 2002 SP3

This is MS Access 2002 Version, right.

But, at the top it is shown (Access 2000 file format)

Why do I use 2000 file format in Access 2002 version?

How To Tell What Version Of Access Is Being Used

May 12, 2015

I am trying to determine what version of Access is being used from a file that I obtained from a user. Everything I clicked on does not say what version of Access is being used. The extension name of the file is .MDB. The original version of the file I am accessing was created in 2001. Thus would you tell me how to verify what version of Access I am working with?

Future Version Of Access

When will Access support the .Net framework?

Will Microsoft ever consider making another RAD program similar to Access that supports the .Net framework?

Just think of an IDE of a RAD program similar to Access that has a full set of toolbox items already built in .Net that supports all of the functions / options that Access currently supports in its forms, reporting etc. and have the ability to interface with all of the .Net database engines...

Access Version Upgrade

Mar 26, 2006

Hey,

I'm recently starting a new job and one of my tasks is to clean up their Access 2000 database. After looking through it and realizing how much crap there is in it, I was thinking about starting a new one for them from scratch. I was wondering if there are any pros/cons to redeveloping the database in 2003 verses 2000. Its a pretty small company with usually about 6 people concurrently working on it throughout the day.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Access Version Of Transpose?

Feb 28, 2006

Hi,

I've got two tables in Access. The first contains 300 column headers running from top to bottom, i.e:

Title
First Name
Surname
..
..

The second table contains the corresponding data entries for 1000 customers running from left to right, i.e:

MR Trevor Smith ....
MRS Mary Jones ....

Ideally i'd like to append table 2 to the bottom ot table 1 so the correct data field is under the right column header but I can't do this. Is there a transpose style funtion in access which will mean I can convert table 1 to run from left to right instead of top to bottom?

Thanks

J7
