I have two tables with a one to many relationship. The tables are linked by the INDEX column.
EXAMPLE:
Code:
TABLE_1
INDEX NAME
1 Name_A
2 Name_B
3 Name_C
TABLE 2
INDEX NUM_INDEX STATUS
1 1 REJECTED
1 2 REJECTED
1 3 OPEN
2 1 CLOSED
3 1 REJECTED
3 2 OPEN
I need the NAME field from TABLE_1 and the Last STATUS field from TABLE_2 (MAX of NUM_INDEX).
Example:
Name_A, OPEN
Name_B, CLOSED
Name_C, OPEN
SQL that I have now.
Code:
SELECT A.FIN_Finding_Number, B.Max_Index
FROM TBL_Findings AS A INNER JOIN (SELECT RES_Finding_Index, Max(RES_Response_Index) As Max_Index
FROM TBL_Response GROUP BY RES_Finding_Index ) AS B ON A.FIN_Finding_Index = B.RES_Finding_Index
WHERE (((A.FIN_Finding_Index)=34));
This SQL statement will return me the Finding_Number and Max_Index. I don't need the Max_Index. I need the Status. If I put the Status in the Sub-Query and GROUP BY it, it will return both REJECTED and OPEN. I just need it to return OPEN.

hey all,
bit of a head scratcher for me here.
i have a database and i need to be able to read all the records from table1 modify the data and output the data to table2 and I would prefer this to be done via just one button in a form so im guessing VBA need to be used.
table1 consists of an ID field, firstname field, lastname field and date field.
table2 has ID field, full name field, date field
so i want to read the first and last name and date from table1, merge the first and last name and then output the merged names and date to table 2.
ive googled around and all ive come up against is recordsets but im having a hard time actually getting them to even work.
any help is appreciated.
cheers

I have two tables with name of accone and the second with the name of acctwo. These two tables are same according to number of columns and also same according to data types and also same according to the column names just the data are difference and also one column (attribute) with the name of ID is same in both tables. Their is a primary key relationship (one-to-one) between these two IDs. I need a query that can combine the data of both of them and can be updated using query. I mean that data of first table and second table must become under one same column not two columns one for first table and second one for second tabel.

I have an access table which has a key using letters (A,B,C,D...etc). Against each letter there is multiple rows against each letter. However for testing purposes I only need to get a single row against each key and I was wondering if there is a function I could use which would return only the first record of data for each key?

I'm trying to make a query to return payroll data, but I'm not sure how to get Access to return 0 where data doesn't exist for a particular month.
For example, imagine this table:
Name MonthHours
John 1 160
John 2 160
Dave 1 160
Dave 2 160
Matt 1 160
How would I get this ouput:
Name MonthHours
John 1 160
John 2 160
Dave 1 160
Dave 2 160
Matt 1 160
Matt 2 0

I need to send letters by post to those members that I don't have email addresses for. How to create a query to return a list of people whom I don't have email addresses for.
I know how to mail merge the info with the letter I've written in word, how to group people who's email address cell is empty.

I am trying to create a Totals Query which returns a data set between two dates. So far I have managed to select the data I want (Please see attached screenshot). However, I only want to select records between a date range working on my field [DueDate]. If I add the due date field to the current query then it removes the grouping and all records are displayed.

I was just wondering if this is a possibility to do in one query or if it has to be run from a number of different queries.
I am currently developing a database from scratch for work (with very little Access experience).
The current query I am trying to run, if linked to a number of tables with different information.
What I am trying to do primarily is link stock to a specific "Host Name", "Serial Number" and "Part Description".
In the "Host Name" there is for example - A1-TX10-10001, B1-TX2-10004, C1-TX-10004 - The latter part of the name is a unique identifier number. The first part is the compartment in which the "stock" sits. So you may have all three components (A1-TX1, B1-TX2, C1-TX3) linked to the same unique identifier (10001 for example)
The serial numbers naturally are different for every single one and of course the srial numbers are linked to the "Part Description" - which will read something like....."C1-TX3 Transmitter", "B1-TX2 Combiner" etc.....
When I run the query like this the Host Name (which is also linked to the unique identifier on its own (10001) it returns everything under "A1-TX1-10001"
What I would ideally like to do is write a statement so that if the "Part Description" contains "A1-TX1" it will only return rows that contain "A1-TX1" in the Host Name and the same for "B1-TX2" and "C1-TX3" in the same query.
If "Host Name" contains "A1-TX1" to return "Part Description" to contain "A1-TX1"

My parameters are linked to a form and say:
[Forms]![FormName]![Field] or [Forms]![FormName]![Field] Is Null
Ordinarily this works fine in returning either the selected value or all values if left null.
I need to pull in data from a Crosstab query, which means setting my parameter labels to [Forms]![FormName]![Field].
The problem is that setting the parameter labels is conflicting with pulling all records if the form dropdown is left null.
If I keep my parameters simple and just say [Forms]![FormName]![Field] then the query works with the crosstab data, but I can't do that. I need to show any records if the dropdown is left null.
The crosstab data isn't specifically the problem but needing to set the parameter names seems to be
I think I may have found a workaround by labeling the column headings in the crosstab, which means I don't have to assign parameter labels
It would still be good to know if there's a way of making it work with the parameter labels but this will do for now...

I have a table with duplicate records (which is ok) and I want to return distinct data for each client.
It works fine when there is only two fields returned however, when I add a third field to the query it no longer returns only the Distinct records - I am getting Duplicates returned.
I.E
SELECT DISTINCT tblClient.ClientNo, tblClient.Name
FROM tblClient
Works fine with only the Distinct records for each client returned
However
SELECT DISTINCT tblClient.ClientNo, tblClient.Name, tblClient.Address, tblClient.OrderValue
FROM tblClient
Now returns Duplicates!
Is there a limit to the number of fields to be returned using DISTINCT or what else could be the problem? Should I be doing this some other way?

I would like to join 3 values to one new column called incident number. Problem is that one of the value is from a lookup field.
If the table look like
ID Type PNumber
1 INR 2477
I generated Incident number as [ID] "-" [Type] "-" [PNumber]. the result should be 1-INR-2477 but its shows 1-1-2477 because the Type column is a lookup field and INR is on the first value of the same lookup table.
How I could resolve this in the table or Query.

Hi
I have two tables. both tables contain an id column (Integer) with the same values. Table1 contains the data I want. Table2 contains one column with boolean values.
So this is what I want (though it doesn't work at all)
FROM [Table1] WHERE [Table2].[BooleanVolumn]=true
So I want all the records from Table1 where the same record in Table2 have a true value in Table2.BooleanColumn.
This is hard to explain, but I hope you understand.
Thanks for any help!

Hello everyone! I've found much use of this forum recently as I am working on a database concerning my work.
I'm not a newbie working with access but this problem seems confusing at the beginning.
I've got 2 tables
1) Information about produced details. Article, Mass etc.
2) Mass constants
Mass min. Mass max. Constant
What I need, is to build a query that compares the mass of the detail with the range mass min. and mass max. and shows the mass constant that the detail belongs to.
Has anyone tried to solve this kind of issue before?
Greets from Estonia,
K

I have created 2 tables:
StaffID
StaffTrainingID
Table 1 (StaffID) - contains all personal details in the form of forename + surname + position + email + contact numbers ect. Each field/person has an autonumber.
Table 2 (StaffTrainingID) - contains all mandatory training/lectures (18 fields in total). I don't wish to list each staff member again in table 2 so have put a StaffID field in (data type is number).
However, when I try to type in the StaffID number in that field so I can link that person to the relevant training he/she has taken, Access won't allow it.

Ok, I have having a problem joing these two queries. Can anyone please help me out here. These are the results of my two queries:
These are the values in the A1 field of QueryA
COCKBURN 2
GT KW 1
GTN 1
IPP GT1
IPP GT2
KALG F5
KALG F6
KWIN C6
MUJA 1
MUJA 2
MUJA 3
MUJA 4
MUJA C5
MUJA C6
MUJA D7
MUJA D8
These are the values in fields A1 and X1 in QueryB:
COCKBURN 86.83
GT KW1 10.44
GTN 1 16.13
IPP GT1 62.84
IPP GT2 62.56
KALG F5 15.12
KALG F6 20.83
KWIN C6 37.78
MUJA 1 23.44

MUJA 4 23.44
MUJA C5 84.56
MUJA C6 89.01
MUJA D7 86.22
MUJA D8 84.65
In QueryB, the entry MUJA 2 is missing. What I need is to take the X1 field from QueryB and join those values with the A1 field from QueryA as follows:
COCKBURN 86.83
GT KW1 10.44
GTN 1 16.13
IPP GT1 62.84
IPP GT2 62.56
KALG F5 15.12

KWIN C6 37.78
MUJA 1 23.44
MUJA 3 8.69
MUJA 2
MUJA 4 23.44
MUJA C5 84.56
MUJA C6 89.01
MUJA D7 86.22
MUJA D8 84.65
How can this be done. I need this in another query. I have tried the join statements, but I get errors every time. Thanks in advance.

I have three queries that I would like to make into one query, but I'm having trouble. How do I combine the three queries into one? The three queries are below. The qryGetMaxChapter3 is the one that I will use, i.e. it is built on qryGetMaxChapter2, and qryGetMaxChapter2 is built on qryGetMaxChapter1.
qryGetMaxChapter1
SELECT tblCourt.CourtID, tblCourt.ID_Number, tblCourt.ActionDate, tblCourt.Chapter
FROM tblCourt
WHERE (((tblCourt.CourtActionsID)=1 Or (tblCourt.CourtActionsID)=2));
qryGetMaxChapter2
SELECT tblCourt.ID_Number, Max(tblCourt.ActionDate) AS MaxOfActionDate
FROM tblCourt INNER JOIN qryGetMaxChapter1 ON tblCourt.CourtID = qryGetMaxChapter1.CourtID
GROUP BY tblCourt.ID_Number;
qryGetMaxChapter3
SELECT tblCourt.ID_Number, tblCourt.ActionDate, tblCourt.Chapter
FROM tblCourt INNER JOIN qryGetMaxChapter2 ON tblCourt.ID_Number = qryGetMaxChapter2.ID_Number
WHERE (((tblCourt.ActionDate)=[MaxOfActionDate]));

I want to join these two queries and result should be in one query as :
Approved document
Pending Document
and from balance document using Now query - due.
One report is attached which will help understand - blank yellow field requires due query.

I am having a problem trying to join two queries. The first query, which is called qry_Planned_By_Month comes from a table (tbl_planned) that captures budget planning information. I created an expression in this query called SumOfPlanned. It takes the sum of all common budget line items (BLI) and is broken down by month.
The second query is called qry_Actuals_By_Month, which comes from a table (tbl_actual) that captures the actual amount spend against each BLI. Again, I created an expression in this query called SumOfActuals. It takes the sum of all common BLIs broken down by month.
Problem: I am trying to create a third query where I can compare planned versus actual. The formulas that I am using to do this are accurate. However the result set contains duplicate data. For example, I may have three entries on the planned side (March, June, and December) and on the actual side for the same BLI, I only have data in February. It displays the February data three times (because it is in the same row as the March, June, and December data.
Is there anything I can do? Thanks very much in advance. URL

Hi,
I try to input data in table 1 with a form that is based on a join from table 1 and table 2.
I do a right join, so if there are no records for the join condition in table 1, null values are created. My idea is to change these null values, so 'real' values exist in table 1.
Can anybody help me, or show an alternative way to do this?
Thnx in advance.

I have almost all of my info with the exception of few hundred pieces of data entered into my database. After looking it over and looking for ways to improve it, would it be easier to import all the tables into a brand new database and starting fresh with everything? I have made a lot of changes since the inception of the database so there are forms and queries and reports that no longer work because of the changes. Or should I go back and change them?
Also, if I am looking to join to tables can they be joined by their foreign keys? They are listed below:
tblEmpInfo
EmpInfoID <PK>
EmpIDFK <FK>
JobNumberFK (joined to tblJobs)
EmpType
CraftCode (would get rid of this)
tblEmpRating
EmpRatingID <PK>
EmpID <FK>
EvalDate
SuptID
StatusChange
CraftCode
I want to join the tables based on the EmpID can this be done or do I have to add another field to EmpRating ID?
