INVALID SQL SYNTAX On Validation Rule

Jan 25, 2006

New to the list, and hoping I can get some help on a few issues I'm having in Access 2003.

I have a table where two fields represent log numbers. The fields are called "LogNo" and "LogNoPct". On occasion, the person entering the data will accidentally place the same number into both fields, which is clearly a mistake. One record should never have the same log number in both fields. So, I set up a validation rule for "LogNoPct". I just want it to check the last 4 digits of the log number and not allow the entry if both have the same last 4 digits. In the validation rule for "LogNoPct" I have this:

Right([LogNo],4)<>Right([LogNoPct],4)
Everything looks good until I try to save the changes to the table's design. When I hit SAVE I get this error:

Invalid SQL Syntax - cannot use multiple columns
in a column-level CHECK constraint.
Have no idea why its giving me this error. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Paragraphs In Text Field And Using Quotes

Jun 14, 2006

I have a button that generates text according to information in different fields. The text has multiple lines and when I select the button to generate the text it puts all the lines together when I need it to do a new paragraph after each line.

Sample:
Me.GeneratedCode = "This is a test for " & Me.ServerName & "." & _
"The server " & Me.TestResults & " the test."

The above shows up in one continues line.
This is a test for shankserver. The server Passed the test.

I what it to look like this

This is a test for shankserver.
The server Passed the test.

Forms :: Convert Excel Formula Into Expression Builder - Invalid Syntax

the excel formula is this:
IF(AND(E4>=2.65,F4<1.85),"Poor",IF(AND(E4<2.65,F4< 1.85),"Unacceptable",IF(AND(E4>=2.65,F4>=1.85,F4<2 .65),"Generally",IF(AND(E4<2.65,E4>=1.85,F4<2.65,F 4>=1.85),"Poor",IF(AND(E4<1.85,F4<2.65,F4>=1.85)," Unacceptable",IF(AND(E4>=3.45,F4<3.45,F4>=2.65),"H igh",IF(AND(E4>=2.65,E4<3.45,F4<3.45,F4>=2.65),

[Code] ....

In the expression builder I put this:

[Code] ....

It gives me an error 'expression you entered contains invalid syntax, you may have entered a comma without a preceding value.'

Queries :: Counting Rows In Query Groups - Invalid Argument To Function

Jan 3, 2014

I have a query with about 7500 records that are grouped as follows and sorted by Mtr_Reading

ID Name Event_Start_Time _Hour, Mtr_Reading
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 17 150
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 14 143
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 16 115
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 15 110
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 13 100
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 12 100
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 17 150
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 14 147
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 13 113
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 18 110
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 15 100

There are about 75 distinct sets of ID's and Names not shown here

The rows were sorted by the Mtr_Readings and we have to take the best four readings out of each group and average them. If a group has more than four rows then the top 4 are taken out and the balance is discarded. If the group has four rows or less all of the rows are taken.

I did try nested select statements and kept getting "invalid argument to function" exceptions.

Queries :: Syntax Error In Query Expression

Apr 15, 2014

I am creating a database to analyze prices. I have 2 tables. One table has a bunch of dates, product names and the prices. There are many of the same dates and many of the same products. I.E. a product could get priced one day and than have a different price the next day.The other table has a bunch of information and dates and product names also. The goal is to add a week to the dates in this table and use that date and product name to look up the corresponding price for that date and product and add it to the record.

I am trying to use Dlookup but evey record is then filled with the same price. I am using this Expr1: DLookUp("Price","Qry_Historic_Price","[Date]=#[End Period]# And primary_id ='[primary_id']")...When I run the query I get a message that says "Syntax error in query expression" than a message box that pops and says "Unknown" with only "ok" to click.

Queries :: Syntax Error (comma) In Query Expression

Jul 31, 2013

Access and receive the following message after trying to run a query: Syntax error (comma) in query expression, followed by the formula I wrote on the Query Builder. I use 4 tables to run the query, but only need to trim some stuff from one of them. This table is called BD_lamosa_corregida and have already selected Expression on the Total row in Design View. This is the formula:

parte: Trim(IIf(IIf(IsError(InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1)),"",InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1))="",[Parte],Left([Parte],IIf(IsError(InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1)),"",InStr(1,[Parte],"(",1))-1)))

The formula is trying to trim the left side of an expression (Part description) which may contain a code number in parenthesis or not, it might also have this parenthesis separated by a space or not.

Queries :: DLookup - Combine Multiple Criteria Syntax In Query

Apr 17, 2013

I am trying to create a Dlookup in Access 2010 within a query using query wizard. I want to lookup the tax rate for an employee based on a salary range and their 'tax category' (string). Through troubleshooting I can get the criteria to work separately.

These are: DLookUp("Base","TABWT","[TABWT].[Taxclass] = '" & [FirstOfTaxGroup] & "'")

DLookUp("Base","TABWT",[grosspay] & " Between [TABWT]![Minimum] And [TABWT]![MaxBracket]")

These work and return the correct values for each column/row when I run the query.

However, when I combine the criteria (using the build wizard) as follows:

Expr1: DLookUp("Base","TABWT","[TABWT].[Taxclass] = '" & [FirstOfTaxGroup] & "'" and [grosspay] & " Between [TABWT]![Minimum] And [TABWT]![MaxBracket]")

The Dlookup will returns 0 values but will not give an error message.

I've tried quite a few variations on syntax and quotes and so on. However, it's just not working for me.

Queries :: IIF Statement - Syntax Error (comma) In Query Expression

Aug 4, 2015

I'm trying to run a very basic iif statement to correct hourly data for sorting. Basically, a trading day runs from 8am - 8am, so I need to adjust the hours to ensure that 1am on the 15th trading day (really the 16th on the calendar), comes after 9am on the 15th trading day (which will actually be the 15th on the calendar).

Here's what I've used. It's driving me bananas, because it keeps telling me that there's a syntax error (comma) in the query expression, but I can't understand why?

Sort2: IIf([DELIVERY_HOUR]<8,[DELIVERY_HOUR]+24,[DELIVERY_HOUR])

Prevent Subform From Updating If Main Form Data Is Invalid

Nov 4, 2005

Hi,
Mainform and Subform are linked on field "barcode".

Barcode is the primary key for the table that Mainform is based on.

When user is entering a new record, I have the BeforeUpdate event of Mainform.barcode set to check to see if the barcode already exists in the table, and if so, to give the user some meaningful error message.

Works fine, except that the subform still updates to match the invalid, previously-used barcode. I want the subform to stay blank until the user has entered valid data in MainForm.

How do I accomplish this?

Thanks for any ideas.

Invalid Format? Data Type Mismatch In Criteria Expression

Jan 30, 2008

Hi,

I am trying to insert a text box value into a text field value in a table. I am checking to see if the value is already in the table but come across an error on the second click. The first click enters the number, and the second click gets error. I know where the error is but I'm not sure why or how to fix it.

Code:Dim db As DAO.DatabaseDim rs As DAO.RecordsetSet db = CurrentDb()Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("CVHOLD", dbOpenDynaset)If Not rs.BOF Then rs.MoveFirstrs.FindFirst "[Batch Number] = " & Me![Batch Number]'Error here on second passIf (rs.EOF) Then 'Seems to insert new record properly 'No Batch Number in Table yet. rs.AddNew rs("Batch Number") = Me![Batch Number] rs("Date Closed") = Now() rs.Update rs.CloseElse 'never enters, jumps to Error label 'Batch already listed in table MsgBox ("Batch already in table. Updating Closed date")End IfErr_cmdHoldStatus_Click: MsgBox Err.Description

This is what the debugger outputs for my values
Code:Me![Batch Number] : 81697 : Object/Textbox rs("Batch Number") : "81697" : Object/Field rs.BOF : False : Boolean rs.EOF : False : Boolean
