Queries :: Join Results Of Unmatched Query With Matched Query To Include Null

Mar 24, 2013

I am trying to do the good 'ol sales report (query) to include customers with no sales.

I have a customers table, account number table, sales table & sales (line) detail table. (all linked in that order)

If I run a query to show customers (in the customer table) with account numbers, that works

An unmatched query to show customer without an account number works (but of course the unmatched account number field isn't shown).

How can I get the two two be shown together with the "unmatched" having a null or 0 for their account number?

I am guessing in principle, the resulting solution can be modified to show customers without sales alongside those with sales?

Queries :: Yes / No Query To Include Some Or All Results?

Jul 4, 2013

I'm having a mental block on this one.

I have a table with a yes/no field. It's linked to a form with a yes/no box, but the outcome I want is that if the form box is unchecked, the query returns all the "yes" records - which is trivial; however I want to return ALL the records if the form box is checked.

How To Return Both Matched And Unmatched

Aug 3, 2006

Hello Forum --
I have written a query that uses one table and one query. As you would expect, it returns records where there is a match. I want to be able to return all the records that match the records in the table AS WELL as the records from the table that have NO match in order to come up with the sums that are zero

As a word of explanation, this DB is for budgetary purposes. I need to generate reports that include sums of actual expenses as well as $0.00 when no actual expenses have yet occured. But, I'm not at all clear how to write the underlying query so as to get both.

Any help the forum can provide would be fantastic.

Thanks,
Gordon

Queries :: Forcing Query To Show Null Results

Jan 16, 2015

I have a query that is search for fields in a table that are either

1 - High
2 - Medium
3 - Low

I have a query that counts these and then puts the results into pie charts on a report.

However, when there is no "1 - High" value in the table against a paricualr criteria, obviously the quiery has nothing to look for an does not show a 0 value against the criteria but simply omits it (correctly) form the results.

This does affect the pie charts though which I want to show red for High, yellow for Medium and green for Low.

Therefore I need the query to show all criteria search results include 0 values, or to understand how I can colour code the series rather than the segments on the report.

Query Needs To Return Match And Unmatched Results

Jul 27, 2006

I have a query pulling data from several tables. In the middle I've got join between a part number in a BOM table and a part number in an inventory table.

What I want is the query to return the inventory location when we have stock. When we have nothing in, then there would be no entry in the inventory table and it should return a blank or null in this and all the proceeding tables.

Can this be done?

Queries :: Ranking Matched Records In A Query

Aug 18, 2013

I have a question regarding ranked matches in a query. My data is set up as follows:

Item, Customer, Shipping Plant
65432, 104321, 221
65433, 104321, 221 etc.

For some items and customer combinations, there are multiple plants that can provide the same item item to a customer. I would like to create a ranked column that puts a 1,2,3 and so on for these occurrences. So if a customer get one item from only one plant, the rank would be 1, but if a customer gets the same item from two plants, the first would be rank 1 and second, rank 2 (order doesn't matter).

Inner Join Results From Nested Query.

Jul 29, 2007

Hi, I have a query that looks like:

SELECT * FROM ((TBL_Properties INNER JOIN TBL_Property_Landlords ON TBL_Properties.Property_ID=TBL_Property_Landlords. Property_ID) INNER JOIN TBL_Landlords ON TBL_Property_Landlords.Landlord_ID=TBL_Landlords.L andlord_ID) INNER JOIN TBL_Agents ON TBL_Properties.Agent_ID=TBL_Agents.Agent_ID;

so far. But I need to join the results from another query which will be calculating SUM(Pay). Is it possible to INNER JOIN to a: (SELECT ....) nested query?

Sorry if this is hard to understand.

Thanks.

Query Results In Form, But What If Query Is Null?

Aug 30, 2005

I have a query that displays results in a form, but if the query is null, I want to display a different form, or just an error message that says something like "your query returned no results" (right now it will display the form with no fields)

I am a beginning Access/VBA user and have searched and browsed the forum for combinations of null/query/form, but haven't found what I need. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks for any help.

Queries :: Design Unmatched Query On 2 Tables

Oct 22, 2013

I need to design an unmatched query on 2 tables to identify employees names that exist in 1 table but not the other (or names are misspelled, etc.). The tables exist in on a server and I do not have the ability to change either. Table 1 has the following structure:

EMPLOYEE NAME: Doe, John ID-12345
Table 2 has the following structure:
LAST NAME: Doe
FIRST NAME: John

Since the field names are not equal, the unmatched query wizard (as far as I know) will not work. I've tried using "NOT LIKE", LEFT JOINS, RIGHT JOINS, NUll Values, etc. in the SQL but nothing has worked as yet. Here's the SQL I've been working with but this returns all values (haven't figured out why):

SELECT DISTINCT [Table 1].[EMPLOYEE NAME]
FROM [Table 1], Table 2
WHERE ((([Table 1].[EMPLOYEE NAME]) Not Like "([Table 2].[LAST NAME]*"));

Queries :: UnMatched Query To Delete Records

Oct 25, 2014

I have a Unmatched query that displays what I need but I want to clean up my database and remove them but its not letting me. See sql below.

Code:
DELETE Warranty
FROM Warranty LEFT JOIN Serials_Repair ON Warranty.[Serial] = Serials_Repair.[Serials_Repair]
WHERE (((Serials_Repair.Serials_Repair) Is Null));

I changed "Delete" it was "Select" thinking that would work but it does not.

Queries :: Can't Delete Record In Unmatched Query

Jan 12, 2014

Access 2010

I created 3 find unmatched queries from the query wizard. The first one works great. I can delete a record in the query and it deletes the record in the main table.

The second one allows me to delete a record and gives me the pop up box that says " you are about to delete 1 record". I click yes, but when I check the table or reopen the query the same record reappears.

The third query does not even give me the option to delete.

I can create a regular select query and delete the records form 2nd and 3rd but not from the queries made from the unmatched wizard.

I am using the same fields in all 3 queries.

I do not have enforce referential integrity or the other 2 options checked in the relationship properties. (not sure if this makes a difference.)

I even tried to redo the unmatched queries but I get the same result for all 3.

I want to be able to delete the records in the other 2 queries.

If I have A,B,C,D in one query and only have A,B,D in the other I want to find C, so that I can format an email funtion in my database using that data.

Queries :: Find Unmatched Query - Design View

Jun 19, 2015

I need constructing a find unmatched query. I don't really know what I'm doing with SQL and I think that I can only take things so far with query design view.

I have two tables. T_Productions and ProPro (see attached). In Access query design, I can only specify one matching criteria. I need a query that will show me records from T_Productions that don't have matching Production_Code (PpNum in ProPro), Avantage_Product_Code (PpPrNum in ProPro) and Step (PpEtape in ProPro) in ProPro.

What I have now only gives me the records where Avantage_Product_Code don't match PpPrNum.

Code:
SELECT T_Productions.ID, T_Productions.Production_Code, T_Productions.Avantage_Product_Code, T_Productions.Step, T_Productions.Quantity_Required
FROM T_Productions LEFT JOIN ProPro ON T_Productions.[Avantage_Product_Code] = ProPro.[PpPrNum]
WHERE (((ProPro.PpPrNum) Is Null));

Outer Join Creating Duplicates In Dynamic Query Search Results

Jan 22, 2008

Now that i have read this again, i think it could be summed up into one question...if i have a form based off a query with an outer join that has various duplicate records, is there a way to use the recordset in an if statement that says something like if this recordID = that recordID then dont show one of them...hence not showing the duplicate field data in the form.If you want a more specific description of the problem, read on, otherwise don't read on.Hi All,So I hope I can explain this ok....here goes....I have a search using dynamic queries: I have a form where the user can put in various information he wants to search to find a record. In this case it is searching for Hotels. So the user can search a country to see all of the hotels in that country. Also, the user can search an interest like Beach or Nature to see those hotels that apply. Obviously each hotel may have more than one interest so I have a 1-many relationship with a table called Hotels_Interests.The kicker, and you can likely already see why, is that the user does not have to fill out every search field. He may search Country&Interest, or just one or the other, or leave everything blank to see all hotels in the database. The results are simply ordered by HotelID or something like that in a form that is based off the dynamic query. The dynamic query is of course just based off the query i explained, but with criteria added in.The problem is with the query that i am basing this search off of. Right now it has the main Hotels table as well as the 1-Many table Hotels_Interests and even another that is 1-Many Hotels_HotelTypes (say All Inclusive, Resort, etc.). So this query has various 1-Many tables as well as the main Hotels. Now, if i fill in all of those fields in the search form, there will obviously not be any duplicates returned, which is super. But if i leave Hotel_HotelTypes search field blank, i will be returned with the same hotel twice or more times, which is my problem, because i want nice search results.I have heard of people using Union queries to get rid of duplicates but this obviously does not solve my problem as i do not want to just get rid of these entries. What i think i want is some VBA method or whatever of showing in my search results each HotelID that meets the search criteria only one time.Right now i have it working with If statements that say if the user has left a specific search criteria blank then base the search off a different query. This is obviously crazy and is only a temp fix. Now that i want three or more 1-many tables in my query, i would be talking about if statements for like 6 or more queries, insane.I apologize for the length of this, but i wanted to be perfectly clear. I feel like it should be not too hard, like using a record set for the form and not showing certain records or something, but i am not sure how to do it.Thanks so much. Dillon

Queries :: Include A Field Not Related Into A Query

Jul 10, 2015

How can I include a field from a table in to a query - that has no relationship?

For example...

The 'Despatch' field is in a seperate table called 'Product', because we despatch multiple products for any ONE order at different times, so it needs to be against the Product and not the full job itself. However, when I include the 'Product' table into the query and insert the 'Despatch' field into my query, and run it comes up with an error...

"The SQL Statement could not be executed because it contains ambiguouse outer joins. To force one of the joins to be performed first, create a seperate query that performs the first join and then iclude that query in your SQL statement". Here's the current SQL statement

Code:
SELECT [Materials Requested].[Job No], [Materials/Orders].Total, Jobs.[Project Name], Product.Despatch
FROM Product, Orders INNER JOIN (((Customer RIGHT JOIN Jobs ON Customer.[Customer ID] = Jobs.[Customer ID]) INNER JOIN [Materials Requested] ON Jobs.[Job No] = [Materials Requested].[Job No]) INNER JOIN [Materials/Orders] ON [Materials Requested].[Materials Requested ID] = [Materials/Orders].[Materials Requested ID]) ON Orders.[Orders ID] = [Materials/Orders].[Orders ID];

Update Matched Query

Oct 23, 2006

Hi Team I'm wanting to build an update query based on the below criteria:

Table 01 - Cost Centres

cost_centre
C0123AA
C0123AB...
C0987AA
C0987AB...

Table 02 - Conversions

store | new_store
0123 | 1234
0987 | 9876

Where all records in table 01 will be updated if they have a matching record in table 02. Eg the query should transform the C0123AA record to C1234AA. Any help would be appreciated as it's fair to say this has been doing my head in...

Thanks!

Queries :: Make Query Include All Records Even If No Data Found

Jul 10, 2014

I am setting up a database to hold staff details, and would like a query to show each member of staff's total hours and FTE.

Staff name etc is in tblStaff
Staff shift details are in tblShifts linked via staffID

tblShifts will contain details of the shift worked on each day of the week, but the majority of our staff work a standard shift - e.g 8-4, 9-5. Therefore what I wanted to do was in tblStaff set a field named shiftPattern to 1 2 3 or 4. 1 indicating a custom shift, and any other number indicating a set shift defined in a separate table.

The problem I have is that my query only returns people who have details in tblShifts - regardless of their shiftPattern value. If I enter a blank record in tblShifts it will do the above as intended.

Queries :: Update A Query Based On Results From Another Query Using Count Function

Apr 2, 2013

I run a physical therapy office and patients come in for treatment either 3, 4 or 5 times per week. My database is used to track these frequencies (among other things).

I have 3 queries which count how many patients come in 5, 4 and 3 times/week.

In my main table I have fields called "how many 5's", "how many 4's" and "how many 3's".

I have tried to design an update query which will update those fileds in my main table to reflect the counts in the 3 queries mentioned above.

(I'm not using SQL view, I'm using the query design view)

In the "update to:" row, I use the Build function and locate the count I'm looking for.

Problem: when I run the query I get the error: Operation must use an updateable query.

Hi,

i've got a query that is linking 2 tables.

i'm having problems with the join properties.

basically from what i can understand, there are 3 options.

1. Where join field from both tables are equal
2. All records from table 1 and only those from table 2 where they match
3. All records from table 2 and only those from table 1 where they match

how do i go about having all records from both tables showing?

Queries :: Join Fields Query

Jul 28, 2013

I tried doing a search but couldnt find the i needed.

Category_name Sku
cars 1
Trucks 1
Bikes 1
Phones 2
Tablets 2
Hats 3

and what i need to is something that will link all sku 1 category names in a new field with a | divider and then all the sku 2 category names together with | as a divider and so on. the amount of categories is different for every sku.

so it looks like this

Joined_categories sku
Cars|Trucks|Bikes 1
Phones|Tablets 2
Hats 3

And if this is easy enough, its not that important though but to delete duplicate category names when it transfers them across to a new field joined together.

Queries :: More Than 1 Inner Join Slows Query Too Much

Jul 30, 2015

I have my main linked table VI, and 4 of VI's fields are to be filtered in a query.

To do so, I have 4 very very tiny local tables (less than 20 records) called respectively "soff", "skus", "warr" and "typ", in which the user will only put what he wants in the result, and by doing Inner Joins, I filter it easily.

Problem is, doing more than 1 Inner Join slow the query so slow it's unbelievable.

If I run the query:

Code:
SELECT VI.*
FROM VI INNER JOIN SKUS ON VI.Sku= SKUS.Sku;

It runs in 0.7 seconds. It's about the same if I replace SKU by SOFF, WARR, or TYP, the query takes about 0.5 to 1.5 sec.

Now if I run:

SELECT VI.*
FROM (VI INNER JOIN SKUS ON VI.Sku= SKUS.Sku)
INNER JOIN SOFF ON VI.SOff = SOFF.Soff;

It takes either 15 seconds, or up to 100 seconds.

I tried by doing 4 successive queries, it's the same. The 1st query runs well, and then it grinds to a near-halt.

Running either the 4 queries or a query with the 4 inner joins takes me about 200 seconds, sometimes 400-500.

It's not even a hard query, VI has only almost 1mil rows, and the fields are indexed. The result is 800 rows.

If each join on VI takes 1 second, it should do 1sec+1sec+1sec+1sec, taking in account the fact that the left side of the join grows smaller at each step, it should even do something like 1+0.8+0.5+0.2, or something. Why does having these joins together, or follow each other, make things so damn slow?
