Forms :: Finding A Keyboard Shortcut That Simulates The Double Click?

Oct 28, 2014

Is there a keyboard shortcut that simulates the double click.

In my Sectionfrm I have a command button that opens my Ordersfrm. Because I use the Ordersfrm for reasons not always associated with the Sectionfrm I do not automatically populate the SectionID (textbox) in the Ordersfrm with the SectionID from the Sectionfrm.

When I want to link an order to a (building) section I double click the SectionID field in the Ordersfrm which in turn runs VBA code that copies the SectionID from the Sectionfrm to the Ordersfrm.

As I tab through my form I find it annoying to move away from my keyboard to the mouse to double click the SectionID, so the question is:

Is there a keyboard shortcut that simulates the double click to run the VBA code?

Design View Keyboard Shortcut - Expand Columns In Design View Of A Query

Jun 5, 2014

I'm looking for a keyboard shortcut to expand the columns in "design view" of a query.

What I mean by this is rather than selecting all of the columns and double clicking to see the entire text, I'd like to be able to a shortcut.

The entire process as I see it involves 3 steps so I will need thesolution to the 3rd step.

(1) [ctrl+spacebar] to select initial column
(2) [shift+arrows] to select all of the columns I need
(3) [keyboard shortcut] will expand all of the columns "field" names to the size of the column heading

Alternatively, if you know of a shortcut that will expand the columns without having to select them first I'll take it!!

Shortcut To SQL Query (View)?

Mar 14, 2008

Is there a keyboard shortcut to open a new query in SQL view?

I find myself encouraging carpal tunnel by:
> going to "queries"
> "new query"
> "design view"
> closing the "show table" dialog box
> right clicking the new query
> finally selecting "SQL view".

There has GOT to be an easier way that this 6-step process to ~run a query~ in a _database_ ... but I haven't run across it yet though. Any help here? My wrist thanks you ; )

Closing Queries

Nov 3, 2006

If you've run a query, and still got it open on the screen, does that affect re-running it? As I just noticed mine retained the previous results. So I thought it would be sensible practise, to make sure any open queries are automatically closed. So I'm trying to include some code to do this via the form which calls the queries.

But the code I've written won't work. I get the following error - Method or data member not found (Error 461). Can anyone suggest how the code needs amending to work. I think I must have the syntax wrong.

I've written....

Private Sub Form_Load()
DoCmd.CloseQuery
End Sub

I was hoping this would close whichever query was active when the form was next loaded.

Thanks.

Keyboard Shortcuts.....

Sep 30, 2005

Hi there,

I am using access a lot these days, and try to use keyboard shortcuts where possible (leave that mouse alone....), so does anyone know a way to get to the FILTER menu when viewing a form using the keyboard...i.e without having to right click on the field and then click in the FILTER FOR box.

In more detail, the form looks like a table, and I may want to filter on one field, then sub-filter on another etc.....

Then also a shortcut to REMOVE the filters would be good too.....

If I have to create buttons on the form with code behind that ok.

Thanks

Hi,

i'm building a on screen keyboard with has to adjust fields on a subform.

How can i detect which field has the focus on the subform and the code is only editting this field ?

I've tried to set a global variable ( veld ) when a certain field got the focus and use this value in the code like :

This is not working .... what should be the correct code ?

Is There A Way To Use Keyboard To Select From An Option Group?

Apr 17, 2005

I have a user who can't operate a mouse and I want to make it possible for him to select from an option group using only the keyboard. This is possible if a default button is stipulated, but can it be done when there is no default?

There is no event associated with the keyboard in an option group, only with the controls within it. I tried using the Got Focus event on an option Button, but entering the control doesn't cause the options to receive the focus, seemingly.

Any ideas, (they don't have to be fully formed) would be gratefully accepted.

General :: Invoking On Screen Keyboard In Window 8 From Access

Apr 18, 2014

Is there anyway to bring up the on screen keypad or on screen keyboard from Access when running Windows 8 on the desktop? It would really be useful if someone was on a tablet wanting to input data in a text box if could automatically invoke the onscreen keyboard. By default when running applications on the desktop in Windows 8, one has to manually bring it up. I would like to include a touch option so every time wanted to enter data, they would not have to manually touch display keyboard option. A number pad like in excel for iPad would be even better. If text field would bring up keyboard, if number field, it would bring up number pad.

General :: Change Keyboard Mappings On Field Focus

Mar 1, 2014

Right I have Windows 7 Ultimate because I am learning Russian and I have created an English Russian dictionary.

Now using Ultimate to go between English Latin alphabet and the Cyrillic alphabet you have to press ALT + SHIFT.

Its awkward and it often doesn't register first time.

Certain fields in my database use the latin alphabet while other fields use the cyrillic alphabet.

Is there a way that on focus of a field I can get the keyboard mapping to ensure that it is correct either English or Cyrillics?

Forms :: Closing A Query From A Form

Dec 24, 2014

I have created a form with buttons which runs queries. The parameters I need for the query are being passed through just as I wish and the relevant query is run correctly. However, if I then press the button on the form with different parameters I get the results from the previous query. I can only solve this by closing the query before pressing the button. Is there an easy way to close the query to prevent this from happening. In case this is relevant, the only data which I am returning from the query is stored in the windows clipboard.

Re-opening 'switchboard' After Closing Crosstab Query?

Jan 12, 2006

I have a 'switchboard' form called Menu (not created by access wizard). One of the buttons down the navigation tree opens a crosstab query for the user to examine a data summary; but the 'Menu' form is still visible right in front of the query. Now, I could close the Menu form easily enough when the run query code is triggered, but that would leave the user loose in the database window when they eventually close the crosstab query window.

All that I have read on database navigation says that this is bad thing.

I can't place the crosstab query into a form or report because the column headings/fields don't appear when I try. (The field headings of the cross tab query are likely to change based on the underlying select query parameters so I can't hard-code the field names).

So, any thoughts on how to reactivate my Menu once the user closes the crosstab query or else puts the focus on the database window? (I achieve this using vba code in the on_close events of other forms and reports but I don't see an equivalent option for queries!)

Please note that I'm a vba newbie!

Thanks,
Craig

Shortcut

Oct 25, 2005

I'm making a shortcut to a report in my database. I'd like to place the shortcut to the report onto my desktop.

The problem is I'm running both access2000 and access97. Even tho I've told the computer to open all access programs in access97, when I go to open that shortcut to the report it opens in access2000.

How do I go about getting the report shortcut to open with access97 as well?

(I do need to keep access2000 for some rare files)

Thanks for any suggestions

Sendmessage With Shortcut

Jan 17, 2005

I'm looking for a way to send an email from access that contains either a shortcut to this database(Product Change Database-CURRENT.mdb) or a hyperlink to it. I've tried using this sendmessage code, but it seems to only work for actual files and not shortcuts.

If I replace "C:TEMPREADME.TXT" with "C:TEMPShortcut to Product Change Database-CURRENT.mdb" it gives me a message "The system cannot find the file specified."

It would also be nice if it showed email to the sender(like in Sendobject) and let the user edit the email.... currently it immediately sends it.
Maybe there is another way to do this, any help would be great.

Code:Private Sub cmdEmailPCR_Click() Dim objOutlook As Outlook.ApplicationDim objOutlookMsg As Outlook.MailItemDim objOutlookRecip As Outlook.RecipientDim objOutlookAttach As Outlook.Attachment ' Create the Outlook session.Set objOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application") ' Create the message.Set objOutlookMsg = objOutlook.CreateItem(olMailItem) With objOutlookMsg ' Add the To recipient(s) to the message.
