Queries :: Multiple Combo Boxes To Filter A Listbox
Jul 13, 2015
I have a form where I am trying to use 4 combo boxes(nomenclature,BPN,vendor, and reference) to filter a list box containing part numbers. The way I have it set up right now is in the listbox it is searching for each field and then in the criteria section i have [Forms]![myform]![respectedFieldsCombo].
This works when selections are made from the combo boxes but when one is blank (not being used to filter) then I assume it passes null for that value and the listbox doesn't return anything. I have tried to make it so the listbox ignores null values but im still having this problem.
For example: If i only have a selection for the vendor combo box then i want the list box to show all respective part numbers for that vendor, where nomenclature or any of the other fields are irrelevant. I also want to be able to stack these filters upon every new combo box selection.
I have a table with the following 5 fields. (Service Type), (Valve Name),(Size),(Rating),(Description).
I want to do two thing:
First: I want to select the required information from the first 4 fields using combo boxes and get the last field (description) based on the selected 4 fields. In other words, i want the record to be filtered using first 4 fields to give me the last field info.
Second: I want to store the filtered record (all 5 fields) in another table.
I'm trying to build an database for aircraft operators. I've got the basic tables structure and relationships but I'm stuck on building an search form to filter records by user input.I've got following controls on my form (unbound):
1. AircraftType (combo box) from tblAircrafts 2. CompanyName (combo box) from tblListOfAircraftsOperators 3. TeailNumber (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 4. AirportNameSearch (combo box) from tblAirports 5. PassengersNumber (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 6. ManufactureYear (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 7. SourceSearch (combo box) from tblInfoSource 8. CountrySearch (combo box) from tblCountry 9. CategorySearch (combo box) from tblAircraftCategory 10. EamilToOperator (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 11. InteriorPhoto (Bound object frame) from tblAircraftOperators 12. ExteriorPhot (bound object frame) from AircraftOperators
I need to enable users to search for aircrafts based on those criteria. As I mentioned I'm new to Access and I don't have any advanced coding skills. I have a query build to perform the search and this is the code I've managed to write so far:
I have 2 unbound combo box's on a form 1 called cboclient1 and the another called cboclient2. would like to be able to filter field name client name twice by cboclient1 and cboclient2 here my sql from my query
Code: WHERE (((Assets.Client)=Forms![report gen]!cboclient1)) Or (((Forms![report gen]!Cboclient1) Is Null));
This works perfectly for cboclient1 problem comes when I try and add cboclient2
I have tried
Code: WHERE (((Assets.Client)=Forms![report gen]!cboclient1)) Or (((Forms![report gen]!Cboclient1) Is Null))AND(((Assets.Client)=Forms![report gen]!cboclient2)) Or (((Forms![report gen]!Cboclient2) Is Null));[/
I have a listbox where the rowsource is a SQL statement. I didn't know if I should try that or just use a query for what I am doing. The listbox is based on our client table, which is a huge number of people, and is showing 3 out of 5 fields.
I have two text boxes, one for first name and one for last name.
I would like the listbox to filter as I search by either field OR by both. Right now, I have the on change event for each with a SQL statement with a Like '*" & Me.textboxname.text & "*' and then a Me.clientlist.rowsource= at the end. So I can get each text box to filter the listbox individually, but I can't get it to filter with both. I think it is a matter of the focus changing, but I could be wrong.
I managed to get separate combo boxes to filter out results on a query, however now I have a slightly different problem.
I managed to get the combo boxes to filter records in different query criteria, i.e criteria A for field A, criteria B for field B, etc.
Now I would like to have several combo box filters in one criteria field, however no matter how much I try to move the code about, they either filter out nothing at all, or show up blank records as they're filtering one after the other, i.e filter for A, and then B, which clearly won't work as there will be no B if you've already filtered for A.
The code I'm using in each criteria box is;
Like "*" & [Forms]![MyForm]![Combo1] & "*"
and this works as a single criteria in a single field.
I have a table with all information on it, that is input via various forms, I then have different queries pulling information from all information to run reports off. These all work fine, my problem is my 'Search Form' - below
I have created a query that finds information from 'all information' using
Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchAll F]![txtDateRasied] & "*"
This is working on all text boxes, It only half works on the combo box's when I use
Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchAll F]![combofailureanalysis] & "*"
If a selection is made in the combo box the query brings the correct results, however, if all the fields are left blank it should bring up every record, but it doesn't do this. I am certain it is the combo box's that are causing this anomoly as when I remove the combo box criteria it works perfectly again.
I have a user form with six different dropdown boxes. I would like to create a query that gets its criteria from users selecting values from one or more of these boxes.
I have tried:
[forms]![frmName]![comboboxname] or [forms]![formName]![comboboxname] is null
in the corresponding query fields and get a "query is too complex" error message, even when only selecting one criteria.
there is a way to convert multiple text boxes to combo boxes all at once, rather than right clicking on them one at a time, and selecting Change to.
I have a form with about 50 fields and most of them need to be converted to combo boxes. I'd always done it manually one at a time up to this point, but I'm trying to build up my learning and look for smarter ways to do things.
Im kinda new to Access and only been using the "Access 2003 for Dummies" for learning and making small databases. So far I can find out how to do the things I want, but recently got stuck with a combo box feature. What im trying to do is select entries in my combo box so that it will filter the table and show all its contents based on that filter. Im not sure how to link the combo boxes the right way and it seems some VB coding is needed which I dont normally use. If anyone has any idea how to do it, tell me how! Thanks. BTW im using Access 97.
I thought I was in the home stretch of my project, everything worked great when I was messing with 200 records. Now that I'm messing with 2000+ records, things are very slow. So a search form redesign!
I have a form (frmSearch) that has a subform (frmSubSearch) embedded in it. The frmSubSearch is a datasheet only that is just pulling its info from a query (qrySearch). qrySearch has about 8 columns of data in it.
On the main form I have a combo box that is feeding its list from the qrySearch using a SELECT DISTINCT statement. So a user selects an item in the combo box and my After_Update fires. This sets a filter on frmSubSearch. I have three of these combo boxes that can add to the filter and they work great so far.
But I want to have the combo boxes filter themselves based on whats left on frmSubSearch. So if a user selects something in the 2nd combo box, the sub form filters and updates, but then I want the other two combo boxes to only have valid selections, and not something selectable that would wind up giving me a blank sub form result.
I have tried using .Requery in various ways, but its not working. I have also been looking into the idea of Cascading Comboboxes, but these don't seem to quite fit what I'm trying to do.
The layout: I have form1 listed in continuous view. I have about 10 fields being listed. I have unbound text boxes for each field in the form header designated as a filter for each field.
Ideal world: Have each filter update records as you type. But I would also like for a "cascade" effect on the filters as well. Being that I can type in a few letters in FilterField1, and type in a few letters in FilterField2 and it would only display the records where the criteria is met for both filters.
What I'm not looking for: Only applying 1 filter at a time for 1 field. I have this setup now, but would like it to be more versatile allowing several fields to be filtered at once.
Attached I have a database that I've been working on which has a form called "frmCriteriaSearch". It is based off of the qryCriteriaListBoxUpdate query. I am trying to get the listbox in the second tab of the results section to work. It queries fine for the checkboxes, but I cannot get the comboboxes to affect the query (unless a checkbox has already been selected)
I have a form with two combo boxes. The first box lists switch names from a query, and the second lists switchports from another query. The switchport query lists all the switchports for whatever switch is selected in the Switch Name combo box, and all the settings for that port (one column per setting). I want each text box to display the corresponding data from the switchport query for the switch selected in the first combo box and the switchport selected in the second combo box.
I have three boxes Type/Sub-Type/Item. They all filter down to the next one, the problem is, when I get to the 3rd box, it filters ONLY from the 2nd box and loses the filter from the 1st. What do I need to do to get it to maintain the filter from the first box and then ADD the filter from the second box when populating the 3rd box?
I have a database and a form that is based off of a simple table. The table has NO look ups and all of the formatting is text. The form is continuous and simply displays these fields. (Kind of like a company roster with name and department). I have two combo boxes at the top of this form in the header with the intent of filtering the form records by department and employee type (lets say A or B).
I have tried every way I know how to get these records to filter and they will not filter correctly. Utilizing methods I have used in multiple other databases, I set the two comboboxes to cascade based on a query in the recordsource. The vba I'm using in the after event of each combo is ....
Me.Filter = "[Brand] = '" & Me.cbobrand & "'" Me.FilterOn - True 'Brand is the "department" and the other identical code is for Personel_Type
This filters the records but independently. So, cbobox1 filters the records to show all Brand 1. When cbobox2 selection is made it shows all the Personel_Type of the selection however the first filter is already disregarded. (i.e. When cbobox2 selection is made, it contains both brands instead of the one I've just selected and filtered in cbobox1. )
Outside of making two queries to account for each possible filter, I have tried setting a filter on the filterON, I have tried a SQL based VBA code, I have tried making two forms and attempting to set the filter on open but either way, nothing keeps the first filter selected (or the FilterON, or both SQL filters, etc). The ONLY way I have found to get it to filter both is with the filter function in Access, which is not useful as my users will not have access to the menu bars.
I have this EXACT same setup in another database and it works fine with 3 cbo boxes with an after even to set a filter for the recordsource for all three.
I want to add to every row a combobox with a list of towns depending on the value in the field Country ID.how do I filter the comboboxes individually based on a value in another field on the same row?
I have a form and a subform with a master/child relationship set based on the primary key of each underlying table. All good there.Now, I want to use VBA to create a filter based on a set of inputs via combo boxes. But the filter must filter both the Parent and Child records.Example. "Show me only records where both only the Parent.Field1 = "string" and Child.Field = "string".I can do this in a QRY as follows:
SELECT Projects.[Project Number], Lessons.[Actions Resolved] FROM Projects INNER JOIN Lessons ON Projects.ProjectsRecordID = Lessons.ProjectsRecordID WHERE (((Projects.[Project Number])="AU-2102421") AND ((Lessons.[Actions Resolved])=True));
But, if I make this as a record source for the Parent Form, then the records in the Parent Form are repeated for each individual record in the Child form.
I am currently working on a form for my users to look at budget data. I have several listboxes for them to filter queries by. What I was wondering is, if it is possible to have data in one list box be filtered by the preceeding listbox?
For example: Three list boxes: Report_Period, Budget, Dept.
Each list contains all the values possible. This data is all in a filter table (and the listboxes created using SELECT DISTINCT queries to that table for the specific field). So, if I select Budget XYZ, could I filter the Dept listbox to only show the dept.'s associated with that budget? These are all multi-select listboxes by the way, so budget ABC and XYZ would only show the departments associated as well.
I have a form in which users can enter data in several textboxes to filter the listbox below it, this works great except for the fact that when a record lacks certain data it doesn't show up
Basically there are 4 filters, one for the name/id which works great, as the entries without id's show up just fine but this filter needs to be checked against the other 3 filters, for their group, education and type.
Lets use group as an example.
When a student has no group it should only show up when the group filter is an empty string. AFAIK the wildcards should see to that.
Currently however, when a student has no group, it doesnt show up at all unless I remove the | Like '*' & [groepFilter] & '*' | part from the query.
I've never used complicated WHERE's like this so it might be something very simple. I think I could get it to work using VBA and modifying the rowsource of the listbox from there but this would be a lot easier and I'm curious as to why this doesn't work.
The SQL:
SELECT Student.Studentindex, Student.studentid, Student.studentvn, Student.studenttv, Student.studentan, Student.Groepcode, Opleiding.opleidingsnaam, Opleiding.type FROM Student LEFT JOIN Opleiding ON Student.opleidingid = Opleiding.opleidingid WHERE (((Student.studentid) Like '*' & [naamFilter] & '*') AND ((Student.Groepcode) Like '*' & [groepFilter] & '*')
I am using two combo boxes to filter a list box with the code below. The combo boxes work, but when the form opens, the list box is empty until it is filtered using the combo boxes.
I want the list box to return all records when no filter is applied.
Here is the code:
SELECT Q_Gender_Statistics.ParticipantID, Q_Gender_Statistics.Gender, Q_Gender_Statistics.Date, Q_Gender_Statistics.Year, Q_Gender_Statistics.[First Name], Q_Gender_Statistics.[Last Name], Q_Gender_Statistics.[Other Names], Q_Gender_Statistics.[Passport No], Q_Gender_Statistics.[Duty Station], Q_Gender_Statistics.[Contact Number] FROM Q_Gender_Statistics WHERE (((Q_Gender_Statistics.Year) = Forms!F_Gender_Statistics!cboYear) AND ((Q_Gender_Statistics.Gender) = Forms!F_Gender_Statistics!cboGender)) ORDER BY Q_Gender_Statistics.Date DESC;
I'm creating a database where there will be multiple combo boxes on a form. When a user chooses an option from the first combo box, I want the available choices in the 2nd combo box to be reduced and so on.
I thought I'd create a navigation table so the first column has multiple occurances of each option, but then the second column has the available choices for the first option etc. Then, I thought I'd use the chosen value in combo box 1 and filter my navigation table depending on the result.
However, the field doesn't appear to be storing the value. When I set up the query on the combo box to select distinct navigation.[cause] from navigation where navigation[type]=forms!form name[type] it doesn't work.
I need a form that has multiple categories, 7, listed one after another vertically. I also need the categories divided in to 2 columns. I need to have 2 combo boxes, 1 each controlling the info for each column. Can I do this on 1 form. Suggestions would be appreciated.
I would like a form (in Access 2000) that allows users to search the database using combo boxes that specify criteria. So, upon load the form would be populated by every record, then as the user begins to make selections using the combo boxes they can narrow the results down to only a few (combo box filters are cascading; each one narrowing the results the other returned). There would also obviously need to be a reset button and 'all' fields in the combo boxes. I have found the code to filter by 1 combo box but if more than 1 is added (obviously) the filter resets to filter only by the current selection. (See the method I used here (http://www.freevbcode.com/ShowCode.asp?ID=4668))
Does anyone know how to bolt these together so they work in sync?
Please be gentle as I've only been learning Access for 2 months and VBA is still very new to me
I have two combo boxes on the form and print button. In one combo box showing numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5. Other combo box showing logical operator =,<,> User is going to select from one combo box logical operator and from other number "means class field". Print button prints the report. Report is based on the query. In the query in criteria line I put the code [FORMS]![MAINFORM]![CMB_CLASS] It works for one combo box. Problem is to get criteria from second combo box or concatenate the both criteria’s. In query criteria line it should show like <2 or =3 or what ever user is selecting.
Second problem is in the same line. Three text boxes and 2 combo boxes showing "OR" and "AND" For example in one text box user enters last_name and then he select "OR", second text box enter city and then he select "AND" from second combo box and third text box enter department. After selection he is going to click the print button to print the report.
I really appreciate if anyone knows the solution or they used this type of thing in there application.
