Queries :: Pass Table Names To Delete Query
Aug 27, 2014
I use the following code to delete from a table all records except those meeting the WHERE criteria:
Code:
DELETE tblABC.*, tblABC.SubjectID
FROM tblABC
WHERE (((tblABC.SubjectID)<>99 And (tblABC.SubjectID)<>432));
I'd like to run this exact same query, but on many other tables, all of which are stored in tblTablesToClean (TableID, TableName).
Any good way to have Access loop through the list of tables in tblTablesToClean, each time passing the name of the table into the DELETE code and running the code, until all tables have been processed?

I've been developing an Access database to keep track of my company's ongoing projects. There's also a form to browse the history of users actions within the program. It's based on table tbHistory that stores actions and parameters as numbers (for example eventId = 1 is "logged in" and eventId = 2 is "logged out"). I've been using a query to translate those numbers to text with a syntax like:
Code:
IIf([tbEvents].[EventId]=1 Or [tbEvents].[EventId]=2;[tbEvents].[EventDesc];IIf([tbEvents].[EventId]=5 Or [tbEvents].[EventId]=6;...
It worked fine but eventually the expression within expression builder has grown to the level that exceeded allowed limit and I couldn't develop my statement any more.. I decided to develop a vba function that would take eventId as a parameter and would retrieve a string, here it is:
Code:
Public Function translateHistory(eventId As Long) As String
Select Case eventId
Case 1 To 2
translateHistory = ""[tbEvents].[EventDesc]""
Case 6
translateHistory = "[tbEvents].[EventDesc] & "" <b>"" & [tbFormDesc].[FormName] & ""</b>"""
[Code] ....
And in my query I replaced that extremely long expression with just translateHistory([tbHistory].[eventId]). It seems to work, but the result it brings is a pure string with table names and fields - in other words, the query doesn't recognize it should be replaced with appropriate value. Here's the output I get:
Of course I'd like "[tbEvents].[EventDesc]" to be replaced with appropriate value of field "EventDesc" from table "tbEvents" as it used to be.

The charity that I volunteer at has a web site through which they receive donations.
Most of the COMPANY names that they receive through their website are JUNK.
I would like to have a system to delete duplicate company names:
A = first programmatically delete all company names that are GOOGLE and this will remove about 60% of their spam
B = next group all Duplicate Company names, which will be removed manually

I need to delete all the field names from my table so I can import a new excel file with different field name headings,
currently I run:
DoCmd.RunSQL "DELETE * from table1"
this deletes the data in the table, but not field names.
What Vba command will allow me to do this.

I am wondering if there is a quicker way to export a query to excel then have the data in that query removed from the original table. (effectively cutting the data from the table and exporting to excel)
I understand that this can be done by exporting the query to excel then running the same query as a delete query to remove the data but I just wondered if this is the most efficient way.
I have experience of VB in excel but currently only use the basic macro builder in Access though if Access VB is more efficient I can easily learn.

I have a database that needs data to be reentered every school term, at the moment i am having to delete selected data fields manually. im looking to create a query so that the data is deleted by running it. The data would be returned to a blank field. I have tried using a delete query but it is asking for the selected table, even though a selected table exists. Using the update query i am faced with updating the query to a typed word however i just want it blank.

I am after getting an access 2003 database to look after and it contains SQL pass through query's. The database is a front end to a MS SQL server database with a connection string that is contained in a module.
I believe the SQL pass through queries are connecting to the same database as the rest of the application and somehow is using the connection string in the module. However I cannot find how that is configured on the SQL pass through queries.
Most documentation on the net seems to point at using ODBC to connect slq pass through queries to outside databases but I don't think this is the case. There are not Odbc sources set up for the database I am look at.

In a table of a SQL-Server 2008 I have a fieldname "Alter", the German word for age.
When sending a PT-qry to the server I get an error "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'Alter'"
Even when I try to set "Select tblmytable.Alter as Age" I get the same error.
To change the fieldname is almost impossible, as there is to much code to change.

I made multiple pass through queries that receive their data via an ODBC link which is established. Currently the username and password is entered seperately in every query but I was wondering if it is possible (and how) to make both look for the values in a table (OR somewhere else if possible) for these values. The following code (with edited information) is used in all queries.
Code:
ODBC;DSN=DSNNAME;Driver=Firebird/InterBase(r) driver;Dbname=Database.FDB;CHARSET=NONE;PWD=Password;UID=User;
The reason that I would like to do this is to ensure that the user can change it easily.

I have a table with associate names and rankings for each month. I need some way to find out which associates appear in 2 consecutive months with a certain rating. I have a query that will allow you to key in which month you want to look at, but I can't figure out how to write the query to return results only for those associates that appear twice in the months chosen. For example:
John Doe was rated 1.5 in May and 3 in June.
Jane Doe was rated a 1.5 in May and 1.5 in June.
I want a query that will allow me to put in May and June as the criteria as well as < 2 for the rating and only return those that show in both months...

I have 2 or 3 Queries which are run specifically export data to an Excel file required by external agencies.The queries contain column headings, required by the agencies, which are not derived from Table fields. Obviosly, no record data is produced for these columns.When the queries are run, the dreaded 'Enter Parameter Value' message appears for each to the additional column headings.
The following is a copy of the SQL Code for one such Query;
SELECT DISTINCTROW [Name1] AS Title, [Mail List].[First Name], [Mail List].Surname, [Mail List].[Address 1], [Mail List].PostCode, [Name2] AS [Aggregated Donations], [Name3] AS [Sponsored Event], [Mail List].SubDate, Sum([Mail List].[ Recd]) AS [SumOf Recd]
FROM [Mail List]
GROUP BY [Name1], [Mail List].[First Name], [Mail List].Surname, [Mail List].[Address 1], [Mail List].PostCode, [Name2], [Name3], [Mail List].SubDate, [Mail List].[Gift Aid]
HAVING ((([Mail List].SubDate)>#4/4/2014# And ([Mail List].SubDate)<#4/6/2015#) AND (([Mail List].[Gift Aid])=True));
Is there not some way in which these columns can be defined in Property Sheet such that this error message is prevented?

I have developed some complex pass-thru queries in Access, looking at DB2 data. I am hoping to be able to make these queries 'prompted' for easy use for my less technical colleagues. If these were developed in IBM's QMF tool, I would build the prompt like &MemberID, for example, if I wanted the user to input a value for Member ID. Access pass-thrus don't recognize this, and it throws an error. Anyone have any ideas on how I can do this?
Thanks in advance for any help...

I get a result set from a pt qry from a sql server 2008 in vba. Me.Total is an unbound field in the report foot( correct translation of german "Berichtsfu"??)
Private Sub Berichtsfu_Print(Cancel As Integer, PrintCount As Integer)
SELECT SUM((DATEPART(hour, Calctime) * 60 + DATEPART(minute, Calctime)) * Price / 60) AS TtlPrice ...
Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("qryPT_TtlPrice")
Me.Total = rs("TtlPrice ")
On the access report I can format me.Total as currency, decimal, integer whatever I want (unless it makes no sense exept currency) and it works.
but
SUM(((DATEPART(hour, Calctime) * 60 + DATEPART(minute, Calctime)) * Price/ 60)* (case when CompanyID=1 then 1.66 else 1 end)) AS TtlPrice
The detail should be multiplied with 1,66 when the record belongs to company 1, for all others ist remains the same. In the Management Studio the results of both looks similar, same in the debug window of VBA editor, but I cannot format the result or lets say, the formating is wrong for the second example.
Neither in VBA
Me.Total = format(rs("TtlPrice "), " 0.000,00") or
Me.Total = format(rs("TtlPrice "),"0.000,00")
nor in the report int the properties of the field I can avoid this result: in the debug window of access the result looks OK, for example 29555.670000 (don't know where all the 0 come from), which should read as 29.555,67. But on the report the result with formated curreny in field property (currency, 2 decimals) shows 29.555.670.000,00

If I now run any search using parameters from 26th March 2014 to date - the query takes 10+ minutes to run.If I then change the date to 25th March 2014 to date - it runs in a nano second.I have not changed the back tables and I have not changed the format the data is saved in.

I have wrote some code which calls a query using querydefs and then pulls all the records into a table. This table is then exported to excel, however I seem to be having some trouble with the export and am finding it difficult to identify where the problem is coming from. When I run my code in step by step, more of than not the code passes fine and exports to excel. However, most of the time when I run the code as a whole without step by step, then the excel application will load but the workbook will not. The application then continues to close and the code completes without error? The code for the opening of the excel file is below.
The pause is a function i created to see if it was a problem of giving the exel application some time to load!
Code:
Sub MiseEnForme1_Excel()
Dim AppExcel As Excel.Application
Dim WkbExcel As Excel.Workbook
Dim WksExcel As Excel.Worksheet
[code]....

I took over as officer for a club & the previous officer e-mailed me his spreadsheet containing club member names in alphabetical order. I copied & pasted his list of names, 7 pages, into my "OpenOffice" spreadsheet. I then clicked on "Tools" & put "X"s in each box if those members had paid for the 2013 year which was fine. I then converted this form to a PDF & saved it as same.
The problem is that I find there are some old, old members who are no longer active in this club & I would like to "Delete" them but seems that I cannot.
Additionally, I have new members written w/ pen on separate sheets of paper that I would like to add to this spreadsheet, in alphabetical order but don't know how to do that either so I'm left with outdated spreadsheet plus sheets of paper with new club member names.

I want update a table (in Access 2010) based on the results from a pass-through query that pulls data from an old Fox Pro database.
With the following query I push data into my access table (everything works fine):
Code:
INSERT INTO Bolle ( esercizio, numero_documento, ...)
SELECT Bolle_Arca.[esercizio], Bolle_Arca.[numero_documento], Bolle_Arca.[testata_codice], ...
FROM Bolle_Arca
WHERE
Bolle_Arca.[testata_codice] NOT IN (SELECT Bolle.testata_codice FROM Bolle)
When I try to update the same table using the same pass-through query:
Code:
UPDATE Bolle INNER JOIN Bolle_Arca ON Bolle.riga_codice = Bolle_Arca.riga_codice
SET Bolle.esercizio = Bolle_Arca.esercizio
, Bolle.numero_documento = Bolle_Arca.numero_documento, ...
WHERE Bolle.spedito = False
and Bolle.data_invio_mail_spedito is null
and (Bolle.tracking is null or Bolle.tracking = '')
and Bolle.testata_codice = Bolle_Arca.testata_codice;
I get this error: "Operation must use an updatable query"

I'm trying to create a query that supplies a form with data. I want to pass a TempVar to the query that is selected a from previously opened form.The TempVar is setting correctly and I can see if this if I place a textbox (NewCID) on the form showing the TempVar. The problem I have is displaying on the records according to that TempVar. If I set the query manually, i.e. "|Test|" then records are displayed but if I use the TempVar, which also displays |Test| then no records are brought back.
think it's something do with the vertical bar and that fact the field I'm searching on is a memo field, both of which I've no control over. I also have to use the Like statement because of this.Here's the query that works...
SELECT *
FROM dbo_ASSETS
WHERE ASSET_CID Like "|Test|"
and the one that I want to use, that doesn't...
SELECT *
FROM dbo_ASSETS
WHERE ASSET_CID Like [TempVars]![tmpvarCID]
I've even tried referring to the textbox instead of the TempVar, i.e.
SELECT *
FROM dbo_ASSETS
WHERE ASSET_CID Like [Forms]![AssetsCID]![NewCID]
but that doesn't work either.

I have a table which lists amendments (amendments history file) which need to take effect of another table (M0070), I can select the records fine and so the sub query looks to be okay but I'm missing something (probably obvious) in the deletion query where by it does only delete the records selected but everything (I know that the asterisk is wrong in the code below but I'm not sure what to replace it with).
At this point I'm trying to delete all records for a specific employee on a specific contract (they can be 1 or more employee records for that individual on a contract - and they could exist on multiple contracts).
DELETE *

WHERE EXISTS
(SELECT M0070.[Contract No], M0070.[Contract Name], M0070.[Employee No], M0070.Forename, M0070.Surname, M0070.Branch, M0070.[Long Desc], M0070.[Emp Post Start Date], M0070.[Days per week],

I have a table listing about 20 elements as field names eg FE, CR, NI, TI and so on.
I have built a form which has a combo box listing these elements by selecting "fields" in the property settings of the combo box & next to this combo box i have 2 text box's where the user can input Min & Max values to pass on to the query.
E.g., FE (chosen from the combo box) value between (Text box1) and Text box 2.
I can run the query to give me values between the 2 text box's by using the following formula in the criteria (Between textbox1 and textbox 2).
The issue i have is to be able to select the element from the listbox, input the min & max values identified and be able to pass this to a query so the query can filter based on the field and values passed?
