Queries :: Pass Through Query Slow Until Change Search Criteria
May 21, 2014
I have an access 2007 database connect to sql server 2008.I am running a pass though query to search between two dates (this query has been fine for years)
If I now run any search using parameters from 26th March 2014 to date - the query takes 10+ minutes to run.If I then change the date to 25th March 2014 to date - it runs in a nano second.I have not changed the back tables and I have not changed the format the data is saved in.
Hi there, I have a search form with a text box (unassigned at the moment). The search I want to conduct, filters the product number by the users search string with the use of * as a wildcard option.
I also have a Query with all the product numbers listed, no criteria set. How can I link the the search string in the search form to the query so when the search button is pressed, it will filter the results.
I use expression on the query field, but after I run it, the field change its format from number to text, how to reformat on the query criteria to change the text to integer format?
I am trying to use a criteria to filter out nulls in concatenated variable, which slows the query considerably. The part that makes it slow looks like this -
WHERE ... AND (([tbl1].[x] & [tbl1].[y]) <> "") AND ...
If I work them individually, it's not a problem, the query is fast, but I have to combine them first in order to produce the correct output.
created a query (in Access 2010) that joins several linked tables (to an Oracle database). The query runs in about 20 seconds when I filter with a hard coded date (e.g., #12/31/2014#). The Oracle table column Im filtering on is defined as date/time.
When I attempt to change the hard coded value to a soft coded value (e.g., Forms![Form1]![Latest_Extract_Date]), the query runs over 5 minutes. In this case, the form field has the exact same value (12/31/2014).
Ive encountered similar issues using Access 2000, 2003, etc. This is quite frustrating. Does Access interpret #date value# is a special way? Is there a way to trick Access into the thinking a soft coded date is a hard coded date?
Is there a way to search for queries that use specific criteria? Let's say I have 60 queries in total, but only 35 of them use the "Province" field as criteria. The criteria is set to retrieve all records that are in Province AB, SK, ON.
Suddenly we need to also include Province MB to all of these 35 queries. Is there a way to identify these 35 queries (all the queries use criteria in the "Province" field). These are the queries that would need to be modified to include "MB" as part of the criteria.
I hope my explanation is clear. Thanks upfront for any suggestions!
I need to be able to print records for certain students showing their best and worst results for each exercise. Must be printed in portrait A4. Each student must be on a new page. I am trying to create a query which will find the results for studentID AA111 and DS1119. For each student:
- Find the best and worst RepsOrTime for each exercise - Display studentID, StudentSurname, StudentForename, ExerciseID, Description, Best and worst RepsOrTime - Name best records "best" - Name worst records "worst"
Please see attached document.
I can find the result for one student id but when i try putting both student ids in it returns no result, also, I do not know how to rename best records best and worst records worst. For this i have two headings shown as RepsOrTime and it shows the max and min value for each exercise.
I have an events database with a description field which I would like to be able to search for multi criteria which would be determined by the user. For example, the user might want to search for all events which are Merchant Navy, Dieppe and Vimy related or they may want to search for only Veterans Week related events.
I've tried creating a form with text boxes that the user would put the criteria in and then basing the query on those text boxes using a like statement. My problem is that I don't know how many criteria the user will be using so I can have too many or too few text boxes. If too few, the user is not getting all of the records that they are looking for. If too many, the user ends up getting all the records in the database as the system uses the bank boxes to bring back all values, so basically all records.
is there anyway that I can have only one text box where users would enter in as many or as few crietia words seperated either by a , ; space etc., and the system would return all records which contain any of those words.
I am after getting an access 2003 database to look after and it contains SQL pass through query's. The database is a front end to a MS SQL server database with a connection string that is contained in a module.
I believe the SQL pass through queries are connecting to the same database as the rest of the application and somehow is using the connection string in the module. However I cannot find how that is configured on the SQL pass through queries.
Most documentation on the net seems to point at using ODBC to connect slq pass through queries to outside databases but I don't think this is the case. There are not Odbc sources set up for the database I am look at.
I made multiple pass through queries that receive their data via an ODBC link which is established. Currently the username and password is entered seperately in every query but I was wondering if it is possible (and how) to make both look for the values in a table (OR somewhere else if possible) for these values. The following code (with edited information) is used in all queries.
I have developed some complex pass-thru queries in Access, looking at DB2 data. I am hoping to be able to make these queries 'prompted' for easy use for my less technical colleagues. If these were developed in IBM's QMF tool, I would build the prompt like &MemberID, for example, if I wanted the user to input a value for Member ID. Access pass-thrus don't recognize this, and it throws an error. Anyone have any ideas on how I can do this?
I have a routine that exports the results of a query to an Excel file. Is it possible to input the formula into the query so that the Excel values calculate?
This is the formula I am trying to pass to the "AZ" column of the Data tab
I get a result set from a pt qry from a sql server 2008 in vba. Me.Total is an unbound field in the report foot( correct translation of german "Berichtsfu"??)
Private Sub Berichtsfu_Print(Cancel As Integer, PrintCount As Integer) SELECT SUM((DATEPART(hour, Calctime) * 60 + DATEPART(minute, Calctime)) * Price / 60) AS TtlPrice ... Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("qryPT_TtlPrice") Me.Total = rs("TtlPrice ")
On the access report I can format me.Total as currency, decimal, integer whatever I want (unless it makes no sense exept currency) and it works.
but
SUM(((DATEPART(hour, Calctime) * 60 + DATEPART(minute, Calctime)) * Price/ 60)* (case when CompanyID=1 then 1.66 else 1 end)) AS TtlPrice
The detail should be multiplied with 1,66 when the record belongs to company 1, for all others ist remains the same. In the Management Studio the results of both looks similar, same in the debug window of VBA editor, but I cannot format the result or lets say, the formating is wrong for the second example.
Neither in VBA Me.Total = format(rs("TtlPrice "), " 0.000,00") or Me.Total = format(rs("TtlPrice "),"0.000,00")
nor in the report int the properties of the field I can avoid this result: in the debug window of access the result looks OK, for example 29555.670000 (don't know where all the 0 come from), which should read as 29.555,67. But on the report the result with formated curreny in field property (currency, 2 decimals) shows 29.555.670.000,00
I use the following code to delete from a table all records except those meeting the WHERE criteria:
Code: DELETE tblABC.*, tblABC.SubjectID FROM tblABC WHERE (((tblABC.SubjectID)<>99 And (tblABC.SubjectID)<>432));
I'd like to run this exact same query, but on many other tables, all of which are stored in tblTablesToClean (TableID, TableName).
Any good way to have Access loop through the list of tables in tblTablesToClean, each time passing the name of the table into the DELETE code and running the code, until all tables have been processed?
I have a database consisting of one table with 5 columns, called Name, Zip Code, Model, Serial #, and Reference #
I made a form with 5 text boxes (generically named Field 1 through 5), and then I built a query. I put all five of the table's fields in the query. In the criteria fields of those five columns, I have
Criteria: Like "*" & [Forms]![Search_form]![Field1] & "*" Criteria: Like "*" & [Forms]![Search_form]![Field2] & "*" Criteria: Like "*" & [Forms]![Search_form]![Field3] & "*" Criteria: Like "*" & [Forms]![Search_form]![Field4] & "*" Criteria: Like "*" & [Forms]![Search_form]![Field5] & "*"
However, here in lies the problem: Some of the records don't have a reference field included, and others don't have serial numbers, and etc. Basically, some records have blank fields.
So to find all of "John"s records, we would put John in Field1, and then run the query.
The first criteria is now looking for *John*, which is correct (it might find Jack John, Johnny, John John, or anything else with j o h n in it).
The rest of the criteria are now looking for **.
However, what about the records with blank fields?
John ; _____ ; SDMS71 ; 1231234 ; REF9001 will NOT make it into the query, because that blank field for some reason doesn't meet the ** wildcard!
how can I accomodate this "blank field" problem? I want those records with blank fields to still be included in the query, because they still belong to "John", and that's what i wanted to search for! :(
I have a database with 20 queries designed specifically for my department (SAM). A friend would like to use my database i.e. queries, reports, etc., but her department is named different (PAM).
The the field names in the each of our imported 'data' is the same, EXCEPT, each record in her department data field has "PAM" mine "SAM". However, her department is not part of my data import nor mine of hers nor will they ever be.
How can I, except manually, change every instance of "SAM" to "PAM" in the 20 queries?
I cannot get my query to return result when I enter the month of "June" as search criteria. June is listed in the table and query, every other month is returned except June.
I am trying to add up a list of dates that match a criteria... a search box result.
I have tried DCount, and now I'm doing it through SQL, and no matter what combinations I try I still get an error - usually 3075 - Syntax error (missing operator)
But I can't find anything missing - I copy the SQL into a query view and it works perfectly... but it won't work on its own. And I've tried using DCount with the query as a query object, and I get the same error.
Code: Dim ResultCount As Long Dim DateSearch As Date Dim MyDate As String Dim MyDateAdd As Date Dim varReturnValue As Variant
[Code] .....
I've used the >= And < option as it solves an issue with Date Time. What operator is missing!?
I have wrote some code which calls a query using querydefs and then pulls all the records into a table. This table is then exported to excel, however I seem to be having some trouble with the export and am finding it difficult to identify where the problem is coming from. When I run my code in step by step, more of than not the code passes fine and exports to excel. However, most of the time when I run the code as a whole without step by step, then the excel application will load but the workbook will not. The application then continues to close and the code completes without error? The code for the opening of the excel file is below.
The pause is a function i created to see if it was a problem of giving the exel application some time to load!
Code:
Sub MiseEnForme1_Excel() Dim AppExcel As Excel.Application Dim WkbExcel As Excel.Workbook Dim WksExcel As Excel.Worksheet
I am using John Big Bootys Dynamic Search Form (built in Access 2003) as it totally met my search requirements, however when typing anything into the search box it is realy slow, taking several seconds for each letter to show in the box.
This has always been a problem now and again, however some of us have upgraded to Office 2010, (although still using the 2003 built Db as we won't move to a 2010 version Db untill March next year) and now the problem is even worse that ever. Everything else seems to work really well except for this search function, however it is the search function that is used more that anything else.
The query for my form has a boolean field with ' like "No" ' in the criteria. I want users to be able to use a command button to change this to ' like "Yes" ' then requery the form.
Basically, what I want to do is toggle between current records ("No" in the boolean) and Archived Records ("Yes" in the boolean).
Hello, I am trying to change some query critera with a script.
Basically I have a drop down list which I select and once selected it requeries a subform. I would like to change one of my query parameters, specifically the criteria in a column.
To change query "MyQuery" column "Model" criteria, I've tried:
Code:!Queries!MyQuery!Model.Criteria = "Ultra5"
but that doesn't work. Is that even close to being right?
