Queries :: Query Stopping When Tabbing To Another Program

Aug 5, 2013

I have an interesting Access problem. When doing a query, and it does not matter which Access file it is all of them do it, if you tab out or click to another screen, sometimes, the query will stop. I have tried many different network related fixes but no luck. I am thinking the issue is with Access. I have no issue with Excel on Access files.

Stopping Queries From Rounding Off

Dec 19, 2007

I have two tables. Table1 has two monetary value fields (both set with auto decimal places) and table2 has one monetary field. Then I have an append query which appends all data from table1 to table2, except for the monetary fields which are added up and then appended into table2's single monetary field (which also has decimal places set to auto). The formula I use for this is as follows:

Total Value: [Gross Value]+[Adj'mt Value]

Problem is, the total figure appended to table2 is rounded off to the nearest integer, whilst still displaying decimal places (45.00, 201.00 etc). Is there some sort of variable to set in the query to stop it from rounding off the result of this formula?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Stopping Message Popups In Update Query

Dec 2, 2006

Hi again all,

Im wondering how I can stop the messages that pop up when im about to run a update query,

I get the following

1. You are about to run a update query blah blah....
2. You wont be able to undo the changes this action blah blah
3. You are about to update X Rows

Idealy Id love to be able to turn off the messages in just this query, and not globally over the whole database, can this be done?
Also, Id like to get a error if there is one.. so only stop those message that are currently showing...

Any help would be awesome,

Queries :: DLookup Command And Evaluate Return Value For Null To Be Used To Control Program Flow

Apr 6, 2015

I have a search from that has an option group, text fields, and a checkbox where the users selects a variety of option that generates a query. If the query return at least on record a split form (form on top/datasheet on bottom) is displayed and the form has an Edit and Close button. If the query returns no records the form is still displayed except the buttons are not visible.

If I knew the result of the query and then made a decision whether to open the form or release control back to the search box that would be great. To open the form I am using VBA with the DoCmd.OpenForm(,,"MyQuery","criteria") command.I thought about using the DLookup command and evaluate the return value for null to be used to control the program flow.

Please Help: Adding Mailing Label Printing To Search Query/Email Program

Nov 8, 2004

Ok, I've run into two serious problems in testing, and another question that I'm hoping you guys can
help me solve. Below my questions is the code used for making the search query/email program.

Problem #1: In testing, this search program only is working for me for new data. Any data that I had
in the database prior to implimenting the program will not move past the search stage. In other words, I
will do a search, it will find the emails and bring them up in a box, I hit "OK" and it gets hung up and won't move on
to opening up a new Email with the addresses implemented. However if I enter new data in the database, say with a weird
name so its only bringing up the new entry and no old entry, it works fine and opens up the new email.

Problem #2: Items I would like to search like check boxes. Say I have a check box "Donor", this is listed in the database
as a 1 or 0. I can't have my boss searching 1 or 0. Is there a way to change this to, say, being recorded in the DB
as a Yes or No. That way he would check to search "Donor" and type Yes in the search box and this would search the DB
"Donor" column for "Yes" and bring up the results.

New Question: My boss and I reviewed the form as it is so far yesterday. He was asking if I could add a Print Labels option
in there. I'm wondering instead of adding another seperate search box and all that mess for a labels search print, can I rather
add two check boxes, one labeled "Print Labels" and the other labeled "Email". What this would do is depending on the check box
you selected it would either run the search and email like we have it, or clicking the other check box would run the search and print
labels.

General :: Monthly Cleaning Program - Crosstab Query To Generate A Report

Jun 12, 2012

I want to create a report for the Monthly cleaning plan of a hotel. For each day, how many rooms need new sheets, how many need new towels etc.

At this point I can generate a report for any given day.

This could be an example of what I want to achieve

Code:
------------ Date | Date+1 | Date+2 | Date+3
New Sheets 2 1 0 2
New Towels 1 3 0 1
Full Clean 0 1 2 0

"Date" is a date tat you can set, after which you'll get the following 30 days("Date+1","Date+2" etc)

I thought that a CrossTab query would give me what I want, but using the wizzard I can't get the result that I want.
Haven't worked with crosstab queries before so maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe this isn't even possible with a crosstab query.

Tabbing Amongst Subforms

Feb 2, 2006

Hi guys

I have a form with a large amount of subforms on it.

The problem I am having is that I cannot tab between subforms when entering data.

The cursor just moves within the subform and browses off of the current record (Creates a new record, like when scrolling the mousewheel).

Anyone know how I can set it up so that I can tab betweek all subforms across the entire form and not create a new record?

In addition, I know access 2000/97 users had to use custom code to disable the mousewheel, but I read something somewhere saying that you can disable it in Access 2003 without using code? How do I do this?

Thanks,

Toby

Tabbing Through A Form

Feb 2, 2006

Hi Guys & Gals,

I have 2 main forms for my database, both with multiple page tabs (I will call them pages to avoid confusion with tabs) and subforms.

I can set the tab order for the various pages to go through the fields and jump to the subform ok. 2 small problems I haven't been able to sort out are:

1) Once I have tabbed into a subform, in datasheet view, the tab takes me through the fields and then to a new record when it reaches the end. I can't tab out of the subform back to the page I came from and onto the next object.

2) When I tab from the last control on a page I want the focus to go to the first control on the next page of the form but what actualy happens is the next record is opened.

Neither of these are a big deal but it means using the mouse when I would rather navigate with a quick click. If I cannot set the tab order to get what I want for item 2, is it possible to put a control button on the page with some code behind it to move me to another page of the form in the same record?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

Keith.

Auto-Tabbing

Mar 29, 2006

I am trying to setup 3 text boxes to autotab once the required input has been put in.

I have in the table assigned each field the max number that can be inputted, which is 3, 4 and 5. Now when inputting it stops and you have to manually tab to get it to move over which is fine and good...but who I am designing this for wants it to tab. I could use input mask but it uses place holders which I dislike greatly.

I am looking how to do this in code, I am not sure which commands to call up. Right now I have this:

Private Sub Branch_Change()
If Branch.length = 3 Then
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdTabOrder
End If

I am still learning my code, so laugh at will :) cause I am sure none of that is right. Thanks.

Tabbing Between Subforms

Oct 22, 2004

I have a form with two subForms (A and B)

Each of the subForms has three fields on it. (1,2, and 3)

The problem with the way tabbing works is that it keeps the tabbing within a subForm.

If you go to this form and hit the tab button you cycle through the first subForm

A1 -> A2 -> A3 -> A1 -> A2 etc

Is there any way to have the tab effect from field A3 go to B1

I hope this is clear

Thanks

Stopping Pop Up Window Of F12 Key

Jul 20, 2007

In order to prevent inexperienced users corrupting the design of the Forms, Reports etc. of my Access DB, I have unselected the relevant options at Tools – Startup and it doesn’t display the Objects window. However, I find that when I press F12 key, a pop up window appears with ‘Save As’ ‘Save ‘frm……’ To: As …..’ with OK and Cancel buttons. Though a user can save the form with a different name and this does not interfere with the proper functioning of the DB, I find this an irritant pop up window. Is there a way to stop this pop up window?

Tabbing In Forms/subforms

Feb 21, 2006

I have search the forum and have found many solutions to this same problem but so far none have worked for me. I am fairly new to Access so maybe I am just not understanding properly.

I have a form with a main form and many subforms. All subforms but one are continuous and the other is a single form that does not allow additions.

1. I can tab from the main form to the first subform but can’t get the next subform.
I have tried this on the exit of the first combo box in the subform

Private Sub EventInitialActionTaken_Exit(Cancel As Integer)
If IsNull(Me.EventInitialActionTaken) Then
Me.Parent.[frmeventFsubform].SetFocus
End If
End Sub

This works until I open a new record from one of the subforms and then I get an error.

2.Then, my last subform is the single form with no additions and I want it to tab to a command button on the main form. Right now it just goes in circles throughout the sub form

3.Also, if I ask to start a new record while my cursor is in one of the subforms, the new record will open with my cursor in that subform field. How do I get it to default to the first field in the main form? I tried Me.EventID.Setfocus on the On Load Event of the main form but this didn’t work.

I think that if I get the answer to question 3 then the code I previously used in question 1 might work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Automatic Tabbing Question

Jun 19, 2006

Hello all,

A quick search yielded no results, so here goes. What is the easiest way to automatically tab to the next field once a user has entered the maximum number of digits in the current field?

For example, I have a form with the 3-digit area code in one field, followed by the 7-digit phone number (this was set up originally by someone else, I don't know why the area code and phone number are split up). Since these fields will always be the same length, what I'm wanting to do is automatically set focus to the next field once the user has entered 3 numbers in the area code field, without their having to hit the 'Tab' key. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance...

Stopping Database Being Copied

I have a customer who is concerned that their access database may be copied and used by a competitor. I have told him to set up passwrods for all users amd hide the system file which stores the password info so database won't open off site if copied. He doesn't want to do this though. Is there any other way, possibly by encrypting it?

Stopping Duplicate Numbers

Jun 25, 2007

I've got an incrementing invoice number that is just a +1 of the last invoice number. Had a problem today where one user was creating an invoice and took a while to complete the record. As soon as the record was created the invoice number went in as 123 but the record didn't save until she had filled out all the form. In the meantime someone else started to create another invoice and ended up with 123 as well because the previous record hadn't saved. Does anyone have any suggestins how I can stop this from happening? I can't save the record straight away, which would be the obvious answer as they need to fill out quite a few required fields before the record is saved so that they don't have incomplete records.

Thanks

G'day All,

I have a table that allows for data to be automatically imported into it or manually entered. When data is automatically entered into the table the number field shows the number as a decimal, but when I manually entered data into the column it rounds it up or down to the nearest whole number.
I have checked the the decimal place setting on the particular item and it is set to allow for 2 decimal places the format is fixed and the number itself is Long integer

Any help would be a appreciated.

Stopping Problems When A Field Name Changes

Nov 1, 2004

I have a database that requires new data from an Excel file every month. I have created a linked table, and the the user updates links each month, pointing the table at the new Excel file.

This has been working nicely until today when the Excel file arrived with different column names! The user linked the table as normal and started to run the database, but the queries were looking for different field names so the whole thing crashed. I changed the Excel column names and tried re-linking the table, but all the queries had changed so that the field names were things like "Expr1: [Depreciation_currentmonth]" even though that field name now existed.

Does anyone know of a way of stopping this happening, or restoring the queries without ploughing through each one manually?

Stopping A Dropdown On A Combo Box

I have a check box and a combo box. If the check box is not checked and a user clicks on the combo box, I have a message box that pop ups and informs the user that he/she must click the check box first. However, after they ok the message box, my combo box shows it's dropdown list.

Is there a way to stop the dropdown from occurring when they click on the combo box?

Textbox Populates Only After Tabbing Past

Sep 20, 2005

I have a combobox where users can select classes. In the AfterUpdate event for that combobox I have the following code:

Me.ClassCode = DLookup("[ClassCode]", "Classes", "[ClassID] = " & Me.ClassID.Column(0))

I want to populate the Class Code field based on the class they select. The code works fine except that the Class Code field does not update until after I tab past it. There is a field in between Classes and Class Code so I have to tab 3 times before the textbox populates. I expected the textbox to populate immediately after I selected the class. I also tried putting the code in the On Click event of the combobox but that didn't work either.

If I just keep clicking on different classes I'd like the class code to change each time without having to tab to another field. Is that possible? What am I doing wrong?

Tabbing Between Main Form And Subform

Nov 18, 2005

Hello all,

This is my first post to these forums, however I have leeched so much information off of all you guys that I can't even begin to express my gratitude. So, now, onto my problem...
I'm developing a form for our call centre people to enter information regarding customer returns. Customer orders are placed on one of two systems. In my form, when the person is entering info, I have a drop down box to choose between the two systems, which calls up a respective subform to enter system-specific information. The problem I have is that I can use tab to enter the subform, however I can't use it to get out. There are two records in the subform - order date and order number. After I enter info into these 2 textboxes and try to tab out, it seems that the subform goes to a new record. How can I get my form to tab into the next required field on the main form? Hopefully this makes sense, I just read through it and its kinda questionable. Thank you very much in advance.

Tabbing Through Form Creates New Record

Jan 24, 2006

Hi,

I have a form with a number of fields and buttons on it. The form is opened in "add new record" mode. I have noticed that when I move from the last field in the tab order to the first field in the tab order it saves an entry in the database.

This is causing me problems because when users move from the last field in the tab order to the field in the tab order an entry is saved to the database but it by passes all the data checks ensuring that certain fields have been filled-in etc.

I don't know why the movement between these two fields is causing an entry to be saved. I don't have code associated with either of these objects. I aslo changed the last field in the tab order to a different field and it still happens.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
