Queries :: Search For Certain Text In A Field And Return Value
Jan 1, 2015
I am trying to search for specific text in a field and returns its value. For instance some of string includes Sub, L2L, Temp, Model, or MTM and I would like a query to return these values if found.
How do I design a query to return a result in a wildcard format? So that I could enter a part of a name, and it returns all the names that include that part of name?
I cannot get my query to return result when I enter the month of "June" as search criteria. June is listed in the table and query, every other month is returned except June.
I have created a text field on a form that uses the DateSerial function to return the value of last month e.g. Jul-06.
I have a table that contains months (e.g. Jul-06, Jun-06 etc) and a corresponding numeric value (e.g. 1,2,3).
I have another text box on the same form that I want to display the numeric value in based on the value that has been returned by the DateSerialfunction. What properties/control source should I set for this field? Or do I need to write some VBA?
how to do to return a text for each row (as field value) when a table field contains "1" as value ?
for example i have a table named "products" with a field/column called "promotion". Sometime a product is promotional, so in this case, the "promo" column holds "1" as value.
during a select on products table, how can i do to return "in promotion" (e.g.) if the column "promo" holds "1" for a product ?
I'm having Table with some universities name and i want web link address for all universities. Take university from table1 in column1 and search on google page and return first link of the search page and save into column2...
Trying to run a query using criteria to populate the query by looking at information from a field on a form, if from is closed I need that criteria to look at the table and return all date in table.
I'm trying to obtain all of the information in a text field for a query.
The user entered information and used a return (enter key) to enter information on a new line within the same field. The information after the return is not captured in the field in the query. Is there anyway I can capture all of this info?
I am trying to create a query that returns records whether a field has data or not...
There are three fields in question, SSN, DOB (this is a date field), POB (this is a foreign key representing a state in the query shows the actual state). Now unless the criterion is different then I just need the answer for one I can reproduce.
I would like to do this in the criteria box in the query.
The query pulls from one table, some of the employees in this table have the three fields populated some don't. I would like the query to return all employees...
I have two tables of data. One contains balances for a set of accounts (one unique balance per account, per date). The other contains transactions for a subset of the accounts (multiple records - or possibly none at all - per account, per date)
I'm trying to write a query to return the sum of the transactions from the Transaction table, for each unique account + date combination which is present in the Balance table.
Here is my SQL :
Quote:
SELECT tblBalances.BalDate, tblBalances.AccountID, Sum(tblTransactions.Amount) AS SumOfTransactions FROM tblTransactions RIGHT JOIN tblBalances ON tblTransactions.AccountID = tblBalances.AccountID WHERE (tblTransactions.TransDate=tblBalances.BalDate) GROUP BY tblBalances.BalDate, tblBalances.AccountID;
This works fine with one major problem; if there are NO transactions for any given account + date in the Transaction table, I get no record for that combination in the dataset.
What I need is for the query to return a 0 in those situations (i.e. I should have as many records in my queried dataset as there are in my Balances table, but SumOfTransactions may be 0 for some of those balances)
I've tried the following but it has no effect on the outcome :
Quote:
SELECT tblBalances.BalDate, tblBalances.AccountID, Nz(Sum(tblTransactions.Amount),0) AS SumOfTransactions FROM tblTransactions RIGHT JOIN tblBalances ON tblTransactions.AccountID = tblBalances.AccountID WHERE (tblTransactions.TransDate=tblBalances.BalDate) GROUP BY tblBalances.BalDate, tblBalances.AccountID;
Quote:
SELECT tblBalances.BalDate, tblBalances.AccountID, Sum(Nz(tblTransactions.Amount,0)) AS SumOfTransactions FROM tblTransactions RIGHT JOIN tblBalances ON tblTransactions.AccountID = tblBalances.AccountID WHERE (tblTransactions.TransDate=tblBalances.BalDate) GROUP BY tblBalances.BalDate, tblBalances.AccountID;
I would like to create another field in the query using DLookup to return the value of the BrithMon.
BrithMonthID=DLookUp("MonID","tblListMons","BirthM on = Mon")
This works good if used with an unbound text box on a form, but when entered into a query expressions, an error is returned: cannot find the name 'BirthMon'
Can I used DLookUp in a Query expression to refer to another Query created field?
I need to find a way to search through all of the queries in my Access 2007 database to change the names of more than a few variables. There are close to 900 queries I need to search through many of which may use the variables as criteria, so if I miss even 1 instance I might screw myself completely.
I found this post and it tells me exactly what I need to do. Only problem is the post was written in 2002, and I've followed the below instructions only to have it not work.
As a contractor working predominantly on databases I haven't developed, it can be a daunting task trying to find references to tables, fields or functions within a list of several hundred queries.
The following code is attached to a command button on a simple form listing all queries in the database. The record source for the form is
SELECT DateCreate, Name FROM MSysobjects WHERE Type=5 ORDER BY DateCreate DESC
There is a text box where the user enters the text to search for. The code builds a table containing the SQL string of every query, then searches for the required text, and displays those that match.
Your form also needs a procedure the set the record source back to the default.
There are off-the-shelf applications such as Speed Ferret which perform this sort of function, however some employers are too cheap to purchase them!
Code: sub cmdFilter_Click() Dim db As Database Dim rs As Recordset Dim rsFilter As Recordset Dim tdf As TableDef Dim strSQL As String Dim strQdf As String
I have a query that returns several calculated fields. One of them is simply derived by simple summation of the others. If this calculated field returns a negative number, I need it to show as a zero.
The only way I know how to do this is by an IIF statement :
Code: SELECT [fld1], [fld2], [fl3], ..... IIF(([fld1]-[fld2]-fld[3])<0,0,([fld1]-[fld2]-fld[3])) AS fld4 FROM...
(The above doesn't suggest that [fld1], [fld2] etc are calculated fields - I just wrote it like that for succintness - they calculate fine, there's no issue with them...)
Is there a more efficient way of doing this? I find IIF's a bit tardy, possibly because they evaluate for both True & False eventualities, regardless of the condition, and this query is going to run against a fairly large dataset so any performance lag is going to be exacerbated.
I have a table with a large text field in it, among other fields. What I am trying to do, in a query, is to show only the characters that are between brackets "[" and "]" for that field. And, if there is more than one pair of brackets, show only what lies between the last pair of brackets.
What I've tried so far is use InStr() functions to find these brackets and then use a Mid() function to show the enclosed text. But, it doesn't work well and it gives me a very complex query! In fact, I don't think it is a good idea to even use these functions in my query. That would probably slow it down a lot.
Can someone show me a function that I could use to do what I'm looking for? I need function names that could help me make better searches for more informations.
I'm fairly new to Access / VBA and have been trying relentlessly to get a text box / search button on my Access form to pull up a specific record. Although the null command produces the correct error msgBox, it does not show any record if I enter a correct primary key term.
Code: Private Sub SearchButton1_Click() If IsNull(SearchField1) = False Then Me.Recordset.FindFirst "[UniqueAEVRef]='" & SearchField1 & "'" Me!SearchField1 = Null If Me.Recordset.NoMatch Then MsgBox "No record found", vbOKOnly + vbInformation, Me!SearchField1 = Null End If End If End Sub
I have a single table with customer information, one of the fields is a date field "LastContacted".
I'm creating a search form with 2 date fields (txtDate1 & txtDate2) to search a date range of the LastContacted field, and I need to write this into the query that the search form uses.
I have written this using Nz so that it can still return results if the search boxes are left blank:
Between Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate1],#01/01/1989#) And Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate2],#01/01/2999#)
This seems to work and it returns lines from the table where there is a date entered. However some of the fields in the table have no entry in the LastContacted field. How to code this query so that it also returns lines where the LastContacted field is blank in the table?
I have tried:
like "*" & (Between Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate1],#01/01/1989#) And Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate2],#01/01/2999#)) & "*"
I have a table with all information on it, that is input via various forms, I then have different queries pulling information from all information to run reports off. These all work fine, my problem is my 'Search Form' - below
I have created a query that finds information from 'all information' using
Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchAll F]![txtDateRasied] & "*"
This is working on all text boxes, It only half works on the combo box's when I use
Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchAll F]![combofailureanalysis] & "*"
If a selection is made in the combo box the query brings the correct results, however, if all the fields are left blank it should bring up every record, but it doesn't do this. I am certain it is the combo box's that are causing this anomoly as when I remove the combo box criteria it works perfectly again.
i want to search a phone number in contact information table with column names - number, name, address, dob, gender, f-name, m-name etc and show them in a form with each field in separate text boxes in access 2010.
I need to find out where the field called "R_SHIFT" is being referenced in all our MS Access queries. I just need the query name so I can go into the query and change the name from "R_SHIFT" to "SHIFT"
I was thinking there was a function for Modules to Find Field? I have never done any Modules before..
I need to be able to print records for certain students showing their best and worst results for each exercise. Must be printed in portrait A4. Each student must be on a new page. I am trying to create a query which will find the results for studentID AA111 and DS1119. For each student:
- Find the best and worst RepsOrTime for each exercise - Display studentID, StudentSurname, StudentForename, ExerciseID, Description, Best and worst RepsOrTime - Name best records "best" - Name worst records "worst"
Please see attached document.
I can find the result for one student id but when i try putting both student ids in it returns no result, also, I do not know how to rename best records best and worst records worst.For this i have two headings shown as RepsOrTime and it shows the max and min value for each exercise.
