Queries :: Subtract Two Fields From Multiple Records
Sep 5, 2014
I have the following source data:
Code:
Item Revision Start End
332 B 9/2/11 9/15/11
332 C 9/21/11 9/22/11
332 E 11/2/12 11/29/12
2A9 A 1/13/13 1/14/13
2A9 C 1/16/13 1/18/13
I'm trying to make a select query to provide the following output (RevisionStart-PreviousRevisionEnd):
Code:
Item Revision Span
332 C 6
332 E 407
2A9 C 2
I've struck out with union queries and aggregating/sorting letters and don't know where else to look. Is there a specific name for this type of operation anyway?
My colleague has a multiple table database and uses lookups for some fields. The simple query was to extract 3 fields and display all records from those fields. The result of the query was that the selected fields were listed first followed by all other fields which are usually not displayed.
Any way of setting up a table containing the following date/time fields.
StartDate StartTime EndDate EndTime
Ultimately I will need to be able to subtract these date/times to get a total time between the two. Should I combine the start date and times in one cell or keep them separate.
In either scenerio, how do I subtract the two in a query for a report?
I have two date fields. I want to subtract them to determine the number of days elapsed. The dates are in the following format: Dateserial (Year, Month, Day). When I subtract them I get 7670 as the result when the number should be 365 if they are a year apart. How can I subtract the dates in a query?
I need to count records based on multiple criteria from two different tables. I have two tables (i.e. "tblTasks" and "tblTaskHistory"). The tables have a one-to-many relationship based on the "TaskID" field. "tblTasks" has a field called "AssignedTo" and "tblTaskHistory" has a field called "TaskStatus". I need to know how many tasks have been "reopened", the "reopened" status is located in the "TaskStatus" field in "tblTaskHistory". I need this count against a unique listing of employees which can be found in the "AssignedTo" field in "tblTasks".
I've got a table in which some records are associated with a number (numeric field): 691, 692, 693 etc. My parameter query asks for the number I'm looking for (parameter) and should return all records associated with that number or with that number minus one.
Something like this: enter parameter find records
in which number = parameter OR in which number = (parameter - 1)
I wish to create a query that produces a return of the previous month and year. i.e.
25/03/2015 (though a query formula) becomes Feb-15 01/01/2000 would return DEC-99 etc
This way I can then link all of my February data (formatted "mmm-yy" to my [datefield1]
I have tried subtracting day and formatting to months and subtracting then the value of a month but it all becomes too complicated because of the different days in the months and Jan to Dec and year as well.
I have 3 cross tab queries that are completely identical with the exception of the field that they pivot. Each field is searching for the same values just in different columns, with the end goal being to get the sum of the values for each pivoted column. I'm wondering rather than having 3 almost identical queries is there a way to use a crosstab to sum the values from each of the three fields rather that having 3 queries which then have to be aggregated in a fourth?
QUERY1
Code: TRANSFORM IIf(Count(PT_LEVEL.UNIT) Is Null,0,Count(PT_LEVEL.UNIT)) AS CountOfUNIT SELECT PT_LEVEL.INF_YEAR, PT_LEVEL.INF_MONTH, PT_LEVEL.UNIT
I want substract from 9/20/2014 totreg40 - reg = ovt but when reg=0 the remainder subtract from 9/19/2014 (previous record) totreg40 - reg = ovt, etc. The sum of reg = 40.
I have three tables. Risk, Names and RiskAndNamesJunction table. I have the junction table because I have many to many relation (meaning many people can be connected to one risk and many risks can be connected to one people).
The problem is that If I make a query to show the people related to the risks, if there are many people for one risk then it will put the people in different rows. Meaning that for risk 2 I will have three rows, because there are three people connected to this rows. See the attached file!
What I would like to do is to have a query which (in case there are more than one risk owners) puts the second name in another column, the third name in another column and so on. So I will have only one row per risks.
The attached file is a dummy file, so there are only maximum three names per risk. In the real file the maximum is five names per risk. So I am talking about no more then five extra columns. (So I am talking about a query which would put the first finding in the first extra column, then the second item in the second and so on till five. It there is no third or fourth or fifht item then the columns remain blank).
Unfortunately I have to do this because our mother company works with excel and they are sticking to this format in excel.
I have this access "Database" that contains only one table that I'm trying to make a form for. I want it to allow the user to enter a value for field A and a value for field B then a list of values for field C (which is the key, so each would be a new record all with the same values for field A and field B). I tried to make a multiple item form but when I click on the new row for field C, fields A and B both disappear.
Disclaimer: I know that the creation of a one table database is a mortal sin but that's what my boss gave me and there are already >8000 records with a million mispelled words, so I don't think there's much I can do to make it a relational database without entering each record in again.
In Access 2010, I have a table with two fields. The first field (Investor Name) contains several occurrences of the same text (i.e. Investor A occurs 2 times, Investor B occurs 3 times, etc.). The second field (Investment) may or may not contain duplicates (i.e. more than one Investor may have invested in the same Investment). I'm trying to create a query that will show me, in one record, all the Investments that each Investor has made.
So for the following data...
Investor Name Investment
Investor A Investment 1
Investor A Investment 2
Investor B Investment 1
Investor B Investment 3
Investor B Investment 4
I want the query to report back the following...
Investor Name 1st Investment 2nd Investment 3rd Investment
Investor A Investment 1 Investment 2
Investor B Investment 1 Investment 3 Investment 4
To clarify further, I'm NOT looking to concatenate the results into one field. Instead, I want each Investment to appear in its own field, so that I can pull each one into a report later. Ideally, there should be no limit to the number of Investments that each Investor has made, although practically speaking, it likely won't exceed 10 or so.
I am extremely handicapped in Access 2010. I am currently trying to create a database for a small company I am interning in. One of the things I would like to do is to update or create multiple fields in different tables simultaneously.
To explain, I have two tables, Production Activity in CY 2012 and Production Activity in $ 2012. Both tables have a field "Date of Activity." In addition to some other fields, Production Activity in CY has a field "Actual Production in CY" and Production Activity in $ has a field "Actual Production in $".
Now I had initially created two forms, each dedicated to one table, however my supervisor wants to use only one form to update both fields.
I also want to know how can I connect/link both of the Date of Activity so that if one changes, the other one changes too. And when I run queries, both "Date of Activity" fields should appear as one (when I want to run query of let's say the maximum or minimum production each month).
how or what function (DLookup) should I use to prevent duplicate records based on multiple fields? I want to look at data in three fields that can't match existing data in those three fields. It's ok if one or two of the fields match but not all three.
Using sql or access query I would like to create an expression that aggregates the first field and I would like to see all records grouped by the relationship with another field. Let me show an example.
My query shows:
field1 field2 apple a apple b banana a carrot a carrot b dog b elephant b
I would like my query to now display a third field and group field :
field1 field3 apple both banana a carrot both dog b elephant b
I have created a table with multiple Yes/No fields. I wish to create a query where the user can select from a form that displays all the Yes/No fields Is it possible for this to be done
Thanks for your help
REFINEMENT OF PROBLEM I have created a table for a small library at work. The items in the table are item_number, author, title etc. Also I wanted to classify each item into various categories. In the Table I have set the categories as Yes/No fields. An item can belong to a number of categories eg admin, finance, resources etc. What I would like to do is for a user to be able to interegrate the table via a query to find the articles that meet the criteria they want to search on. Ideally this would be done via a form that the user can tick the applicable categories (Yes/No fields). I tried setting up as parameter queries however this is very messy. Is there a way it can be done. Sorry for confusion in first posting.
I have a DB that consists of Movie titles and the multiple dates ( as many as 10) on which they will be used in the coming year.I built a flat table with 10 date fields. Then tried to build a relational table with just movie title and dates linked to ID.I cannot work out an ability to SEARCH the Database for a SPECIFIC DATE and get returned a listing of ALL Movie titles that will air on that date,
Is there a way to have one parameter in a query effect multiple fields?I have a table that details service calls on our equipment. There are columns in that table for each part of the equipment that get marked, depending on what needed serviced (i.e. software, printer, keypad, monitor, etc). I would like to be able to run a query that will show all the service calls where one part of the equipment was serviced multiple times without have to enter multiple parameters or write a union query (there would need to be 11 unions or 11 parameters for each part to be captured). For example, I would want to know how many pieces of equipment had 3 or more service calls on their software. I want to run the query without having to say that I don't care how many service calls were performed on the printer, monitor, or keypad. I would like to be able to say "Software >3" and have the query run on that information.
I'm trying to build a query that uses the information pulled from controls on a form called "CharacterCreation" - 2 of the controls are "Race" and "Class", and the form stores this data in a "Characters" table. The query needs to refer to the Characters table, and another table called "Modifiers".In this second table I have several numerical fields such as hp, str, etc, and I have two other fields called "Type_Modifier" and "Type" Among the Type_Modifiers are Race and Class, where their corresponding "Type" could be for instance Demon and Magician..
So the idea is that when I mark on the form (and thus creating the record in the first table) a Race of "Demon", and a class of "Magician" I want the query to refer to both of these fields, and sum the values in the second table where the "Type" is either "Demon" or "Magician" or whatever I decided to choose. I feel like I should be able to figure this out but I'm having a hard time..Here's an example of the SQL I've tried that shows nothing.
Code: SELECT Characters.Char_Name, Sum(Modifiers.hp) AS SumOfhp FROM Modifiers INNER JOIN Characters ON (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Class) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Color2) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Color1) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Species) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Race) GROUP BY Characters.Char_Name, Modifiers.Type HAVING (((Modifiers.Type)=[Characters].[Race]));
I also tried this, which I thought would work but it displays nothing as well.
Code: SELECT Characters.Char_Name, Sum(Modifiers.hp) AS SumOfhp FROM Modifiers INNER JOIN Characters ON (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Class) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Color2) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Color1) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Species) AND (Modifiers.Type = Characters.Race) GROUP BY Characters.Char_Name, [Type]=[Characters].[Race];
I have a query that based on certain codes in a record does multiple joins to pull in other codes... I want the query (based on these pulled in codes) to do a lookup in another table to extract 1 field that has a description...
Can I do this in one query??? Do I need to do a Make Table to first pull in the codes and then do a second query with a DLookup based on those fields???
I have a table, which is being populated by a number of users. The table has 211 rows (customer field - this is a fixed amount) and there are 5 other columns (information which might or might not be available for that customer) which are all yes/no fields. Each row may could have any combination of ticks in those 5 columns.
I have a form to fill out this information, but now I need to use the data.
I'm trying to create one query which counts how many of each field are populated. I need it to give me the total of each of the "information" columns, and another to give me a list of all of the customers which have at least one of the information columns ticked.
I will also need to be able to see how many customers have all of the information columns ticked, and how many have none.
I have a form (form1) that will populate with records (table1) based on key fields of "Project Number" and at time-points we will update part of the record, and then we create a word document detailing the updates with a couple of other bits of information not in original record.
Basically I want it to go from the original form (form1) into another form (form2) (via a command button) taking the key field of "Project Number" where it will ask the bits of information that we don't need have already and the contact person.
I have got this to store in a different table (table2) using a key field of just "ID" from the original records (table1). A list of contact people are in a separate table (table3) using a key field of "contact name" which will include other details for them such as address and phone number.
So from "form2" I would like to produce a report that contains information form "table1" based on the "Project Number" and "table2" based on "ID" as just been generated and "table 3" which is based on "contact name".
So I want to pull information form the records based on the certain key fields but struggling for it to pull it successfully...
Got relationships between: "contact name" fields in both "table2" and "table3" "project number" fields in both "table1" and table2"
In a query for the report I have all the appropriate fields, but only have the "contact name" and "project number" from "table2" is this right? or do I need both in?
Or would it be easier to draw all this information into "form2" but don't really want to select that many drop down boxes or would it be able to pull it from the "contact name" and "project number" boxes????
