View RepliesI just linked a table to an Access Database from SQL Server. Now, whenever I open the linked table, I receive the error "Scaling of decimal value resulted in data truncation."
After a quick Google search (and search of these forums), I found some solutions:
what this means is that your number / data had a whole load of numbers after the decimal point, the length (width) of the field was not enough to display them all so some of the end was got lost
Increase the field size, or, limit the size of the number via the table, in design view, FIELD SIZE
It would appear that somewhere along the way you are
implicitly converting from a decimal value that has high
precision to an integer or other type value that has low
precision. During the conversion their is some data loss
in the form of lost precision.
So, I guess I found the problem, right? I just don't know what I'm suppose to do to correct the issue. There is not a single field in my SQL database that has a precision beyond 10 and a scale beyond 2. So...erm...Why can't Access just deal? What am I doing wrong?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using below code to import various Excel spreadsheets into Access. However every now and again below code goes into error, usually because there is no "toimport" range in the Excel file.
So I would like to use On Resume Next, so it can import all other files. But in order to do it, I need also to be able to somehow capture information about all files that went into error, so I can fix them.
I would like to create like an "error log" and I would like Access to update it with information about all the files that were not uploaded + error message + date/time.
Ideally I would like it to be in Excel file. I tried to use DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet but it does not do what I need
Code:
Function import()
Dim strFile As String
DoCmd.SetWarnings False
' Set file directory for files to be imported
strPath = "C: est"
[Code] .....
I have a database that dumps data to another database with an append query which is activated by a button on a form. This works fine in Access 2003 but when we load it in Access 2007 and run it it somes up with the error Reserved error (-1524); there is no message for this error.
Any suggestions as what to do?
finding some way to import my tables from excel into access 2007 with comments still inside their boxes.
one of the columns in my table is called "Order No" and each field contains a Comment as a note to go with the order.
Is there a way to keep this setting when importing the tables into access 2007?
I am receiving the following error when printing different reports to several different printers in Access 2007: "The section width is greater than the page width, and there are no items in the additional space, so some pages may be blank. For example, the report width may be wider than the page width." According to my co-workers this issue began immediately following the upgrade to version 2007 from 2003.

I have a standard shared Access DB application (i.e. central BE on the network, multiple users running their own copy of the FE on their local machine) Has been in production for a while, no major issues.
New user has been added in recent weeks. My error logger has picked up an error he hit earlier today - doesn't appear to have been fatal (he hasn't come to me with a problem, suggesting he just "OK"d the error prompt and continued on - I need to confirm this with him though...)
Error was 3343 "Unrecognized database format 'C:TempMyDBMyDB.accde'."
Can see it was tripped on a particular form which queries certain data into a subform (so he was obviously able to open the FE and connect to the BE fine; it was several steps down the road where the error has occurred).
Code : DoCmd.ShowToolbar "Ribbon", acToolbarNo
Should hide the ribbon. Instead I get a 'Variable Not Found' error.
This should be simple.
I have two queries, one base upon the other. I would like to combine them (If Possible) into one query so I can embed them into a form or report. I have tried without success at finding the answer on the forum as well as searching the web.
The table lists employee numbers and dates they worked. I need a count of how many employees worked each year, based upon the paycheck date, not the actual date worked. Pay check dates are two weeks apart. An extreme example, is the first pay check date of 2010 was on 1/1/2010, but all the days worked were in 2009, this would have to be included in 2010 not 2009(See the query for further date calculation understanding). Anyway, the date calculations are not the issue here.
I only have one table, so if I am not mistaken, I can't use the WHERE (SELECT... JOIN) feature. I also was unsuccessful at using SQL DISTINCT.
I am running ACCESS 2010 Tables are ACCESS 2007.
OS is Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have included a same database with the queries. qryEmployeesAnually2 is the results I am trying to achieve.
how to import text file row by row into access?
pls help me out......
I have what I think is a normalised database that uses foreign keys quite a bit.
For example if I had a 'contracts' table which refers to 'clients', then there would be a tblClients, where each client has a primary key. The tblContracts would then refer to the relevant client via that clients FK only which would be linked to the client's PK in tblClients via a one-to-many relationship.
If I need any user for any purpose to see contract related information that makes sense to a human being, I simply construct a query with the necessary relationships that will show client information alongside contract information by substituting tblContracts' client FK with required information from tblClients via the appropriate relationships.
I think that is reasonably basic stuff (hopefully correct practice!)
But what about when I come to import a block of new data that needs to go into tblContracts? I'm not going to be given a list of client keys (obviously) I'm going to given their real names.
MS Access has (in theory) all the information it needs (via the relationships) to substitute client IDs (keys) for their real names and thus slot these IDs into tblContracts with the new data as appropriate, but how do I make it do this? (I know it could kick out errors if there are any duplicate client names, but let's put that to one side for a moment).
Does anyone know how to import Microsoft Project data into an Access database?
I am looking to use "high level" MS Project schedule data as input to a new Access application that I am currently designing. Is this even possible?
Any help or links to more information is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,

I wanted to know if anyone else is having issues with getting external data into access from excell? For some reason this function is not working for me today.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning all,
i have a feeling this could be a simple yes or no answer,, at the moment i am using the 'Import Data Wizard' to pick-up an excel file that is up-dated on a daily basis, this file always sits in the same directory and always has the same file name, ideally i would like to have an action button that draws the data in without having to use the wizard each time,, does anyone know if this is achieveable? if so, anyhelp would be much appreciated.
as always, many thanks
Hi
I've had a search through but to no avail.
I'm trying to import data from an Access query into a blank spreadsheet (Data-Import External Data etc), but it's only giving me a list of the tables in the database and not listing any of the queries. I've never had any problem with this before - I've been able to import queries fine - so I hope someone knows what's going on.
Access and Excel 2002 by the way.
I can't figure this one out. i have a spreadsheet called Skills. It the following layout
NAME CITY STATE SKILL1 SKILL2 SKILL3 SKILL4
joe la ca 1 2 2 3
fred seattle wa 2 1 3 2
alice irvine ca 3 4 2 2
There are 100 skills and hundreds of rows of names.
I'm trying to get the data into Access so I can build a simple form to do searches. I'm thinking I need 3 tables in the database. One for all the Names, City, State. One to contain all the skill names. One to contain all the numbers that pertain to the indiviuals skill level for a certain skill. I can get the skill names into a table and I can get the names, ctiy, state into the second table. I can't figure out how to get the levels (numbers) into a third table and tie all three tables together.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks
Hi There,
I have recently upgraded from Office XP to Office 2007. I had an Access database which worked fine in Access XP. In it I had a table linked to an Excel spreadsheet. When I entered data on an access form, it updated the Excel spreadsheet [source document] accordingly. This does not seem to work in Access 2007. The linked table option now does not permit data entry or amendement. The other "Get external data" options create a table in Access which also does not update my source Excel document. The idea is to enter data in Access using a form. This data is placed in an excel spreadsheet. Excel gets some lookup values, and then enters these in a Word mail merge. Without the functionality of a linked table and data entry, I cannot produce new reports.
Can anybody help please?
Regards
Mark M.
I am creating a query to use in a Word 2007 mail merge.
For simplicity, let's say the query has three fields:
schname for school name, role for staff role, and name for the staff member's name.
The current query shows:
SchoolA, Admin, Jerry Garcia
SchoolA, President, Bob Hope
SchoolB, Admin, Janet Jackson
SchoolB, President, Mae West
I would like a query that would show one line per school like so:
SchoolA, Jerry Garcia, Bob Hope
SchoolB, Janet Jackson, Mae West
I've looked at Allen Browne's ConCatRelated function and can pull up a list of all names in a field called Expr1001, but that doesn't seem to be what I need.
I would like to know how to automatically import biometrics data into VB-MSaccess procedure, Right now, I designed the data to manually input in an entry form.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an Access 2000 database in which i am importing some data programmatically through VB6. However for some reason Access is changing the data that i am sending it (i know it's access doing it as a manual import does the same thing)
Example data (dashes signify different columns 4 total)
8/31/11 - 08:30:45 - 1 - 003
this gets changed by access to
8/31/11 - 8:30:45 AM - 1 - 3
Note it changed the time to am/pm format and my 003 became 3 . I have all the database fields set as TEXT and not numbers / date & time so I would think that it would treat the data literally however that is not the case and my data gets messed up.
How do i tell access to stop messing with the data and treat it literally and not change anything ?
I need to import the data from an Excel spreadsheet but only certain cells. Is there any way I can call out a range of cells in a query and tell it what fields in a table to put those records in?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am new to MS Access database and I am currently developing a DB with search function in a form for an inventory purpose, I have followed some VB codes from the web.
Here is my issue; when I try to search using the configured combo box in the form it gives me these sets of values, here is the screenie //oi57.tinypic.com/24fxwzk.jpg (just add the http: before the forward slashes as the site wont allow me to post images or links yet)
Row source for data: "-1";"Office 2010";0;"Office 2007";1;"Visio 2010";2;"Visio 2007";3;"Project 2010";4;"Project 2007"
and here is the VB code:
If Not IsNull(Me.compName2) Then
strWhere = strWhere & "([Computer Name] Like ""*" & Me.compName2 & "*"") AND "
End If
If Not IsNull(Me.cUser2) Then
strWhere = strWhere & "([Current User] Like ""*" & Me.cUser2 & "*"") AND "
[Code] ...
I just wanted to eliminate the numbers and replace them with the actual values as name. ex. "-1";"Office 2010" instead of (-1) doing the search, it should be the value "Office 2010"
