Queries :: Unable To Convert Text Into Date With Different System Language Settings In MS Access
Jun 6, 2013
I have a table in access database which contains a text field 'EDate' that stores Date value in format (12-Apr-2013). Now I want to run a sql query on that field. User will give an input date. The sql query needs to fetch me all the records from access database whose Edate is less than or equal to the user input date.
I am using DateValue function to convert my text filed Edate into date. My query is something like this:
select * from table_name where DateValue(EDate)<='user_input_date'
I am able to perform above task if the system language settings are 'English'. But if system language settings are different say Turkish, then the query fails.
I searched a lot on web and found that DateTime function compares test data with the system date time format and gives the result. Thus it fails with different language settings.
But this has not worked. (If someone could explain the significance of the numbers in the function that would be helpful also - Access help did not provide this information)
Hi, I get the user input from a text box in a form, then i use it in the query.
in my query i used the DateDiff function in the expression. should I convert the data type from string (the user input from the text box) to date type first before using the DateDiff function?
in the SQL view, I wrote the following, but it says incorrect:
SELECT availability.machineName, (DateDiff("d",CDate(Forms!frmMain!txtStartDate),CDate(Forms!frm Main!txtEndDate))+1)*24 AS totalMonthlyHours, availability.type FROM availability WHERE (availability.date)>=CDate(Forms!frmMain!txtStartDate) And (availability.date)<=CDate(forms!frmMain!txtEndDate) GROUP BY availability.machineName, availability.type;
I have a continuous form (2003) with 6 text boxes (StartTime, StopTime, Comments etc...). I would like all the text boxes to have a gray background if the StartTime for that row is less than Today().
I have a linked database that stores date values as YYMM in text format. I have no control over how that information is kept. I cant seem to find a way to convert YYMM text to date format. Additionally I would like to add the last day of the respective month to that data.
I have a staff rota system that works on a rolling 4 weekly basis. I am using a table to store the shifts of a person dependent on week. I want to be able to tell access that Monday on week 1 corresponds to a certain date and then get access to figure out the rolling system based on that date.
eg Monday 21/7/13 is week 1 (7 days later it knows it is linked to week 2)
This is so if a staff member is off sick I can say they were off sick on the 24th and it will populate their timesheet with the corresponding shift without me having to input it manually. Doable?
So I'm trying to do this database for my ICT coursework and its a full system for dog kennels.
So in actuality the rooms are kennels.
I have a table tblbookings that amongst others has fields:
Kennel No Date In Date Out
I need a way of users entering the requested dates for a new booking and getting an output of a list of all kennels that are available to book for that full date range or even better, a way of running this straight from the form for a new booking frmbookings to just leave the first available kennel no. in the field KennelNo?
I have an ms access Database(2013 version). There are about 10000 records. There are some columns with field property of "short text" but contains the values like that 0.4,7, 9.0 etc I would like to convert the "short text" into "double" without loosing information.
I am trying to create a query to find missing sequential numbers in a text field. I am using this specific field as a case number which is designated as two letters, the # sign, two digits indicating the year, a dash, and then a four digit number; For Example: AB#13-1234.
The reason for this query is to tell the user of this database that a specific case number has yet to be entered and needs to be. The case numbers are unique and will never be referenced more than once.
My table name is "MainDataTbl" and the field i'm trying to find the missing case numbers is titled "CaseNumber".
I need to convert the date format October 10th, 2013 to 10/01/2013 in a field using sql in access 2010,I know it has to be an update query but dont know how to start writing the query.
In my query I want to extract the last 10 characters of a string in a column which represent a date in the format DD.MM.YY and then convert these to a real date format to be available for further processing.
My query looks like this:
SELECT Angebotskopf.[Laufende Nummer], Angebotskopf.Angebotsnummer, Angebotskopf.Angebotsdatum, Angebotskopf.Anfragedatum, Angebotskopf.Kunde, Angebotskopf.Ansprechpartner, Angebotskopf.Telefonnummer, Angebotskopf.Faxnummer, Angebotskopf.Projekt, Angebotskopf.Preis, CONVERT(varchar(10), RIGHT(Angebotskopf.Projekt, 8),104) AS TestAngebot FROM Angebotskopf;
But Access gives an error message "unknown function 'CONVERT'"
The "RIGHT" functions works but the resulting column is not being recognized as a date, it is a only a string and therefore useless for processing of any date related calculation.
Im trying to work on an db in Access 2007 that was migrated from Access 2003 (in fact its been migrated several times starting from Access 97). It executes and runs with no problems in both versions. The problem is when trying to open some queries (not all) - Access is unable to open the query in design mode and gives me this error :
" is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long.
However, as I cant open it - I cant check it. Im pretty sure none of the fields have invalid characters (they do have spaces) and Im not sure how long is too long....
Using Access 2010 and ODBC connections to pull data from 3 sources (SQL Server 2008, a customized Documentum application, and Windows AD accounts). Problem is user_login_name is sometimes recorded as lowercase, sometimes as propercase, and sometimes as uppercase depending on which table or source being used. For example, lowercase would be "abcd123", propercase would be "Abcd123", and uppercase would be "ABCD123". I thought I could just wrap each join comparison in the From stmt in the query(s) with the UCase() function, but Access doesn't like that.
How can I convert or cast the various user_login_names within the FROM join statement to be the same text case so joins will pull correct data?
How do you grab a custom Fiscal Year's values based on the system clock's date?
I am building a query where I want to see the number of closed cases based on the current custom fiscal year with the system clocks date. The report that it feeds only cares about the current FY.
I need the System Clock's FY value in this query
Code: SELECT shortname AS Station, NZ(TotalCount.TotalCases,0) AS [Cases Complete] FROM StationList LEFT JOIN (SELECT station, count([Open Issues].ID) AS TotalCases FROM [Open Issues] WHERE [Status]="Closed" GROUP BY Station) AS TotalCount ON StationList.shortname =TotalCount.station;
Within the Query Open Issues I have the FY broken up
I am working on a french version of Access but in my english forms, I need the current date field to be written in english - is there a way/expression to change the language of the date field on a form (from french to english)?
I have an access database with a query which inserts system date/time from Now() function to a column. My system date is 12-05-14 (12 May 14) and when it is inserting in the table is taken as 05-12-14 (5 Dec 14).
The file was converted from excel. It is in Datasheet view. I select the first column and clip on the Ascending choice under the Home Tab. It works but leaves a large gab of blank rows. I go to the Database Tools tab and check Compact and Repair Database. The file returns to the original unorganized list.
First post, so I hope I'm following the post-etiquette!
Anyway, I've just been employed by a company who still uses access 2.0 and lotus smartsuite.
Basically I'm gonna have to migrate a few of their backbone databases to access 2000+
I've managed to find the old Microsoft access 2.0 book in the company amazingly, which is a help.
I was just wondering if anyone knows any good sites for migration, or any particular problems that may be encountered. I'm just doing some background work at the moment, this won't be happening for a few weeks (hopefully!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'll just take this opportunity to say that I've found the site very useful in the last few weeks and hope I can contribute in the future when I break out of newbie status! -Spud.
