Queries :: Update Query To Replace All Data In Field

Apr 8, 2013

Is it possible for an update query to simply replace all the data in a table's field with the results from a query?

For example, I have Table A with the field Years. This table performs various calculations within based on the field Years.

I would like an update query that simply replaces the Years field data in Table A with a new set of years based on a query's search criteria.

When I run the below query, I get an error saying the query must be updateable- but Im not trying to update the query, rather the Table

I've attached a photo ......

Queries :: Update Query To Replace Number With Text

Apr 15, 2014

I've made a simple form to Login/Logout with radio buttons but the buttons only allow me to push a number as a value, in my case 1 or 2 for Login or Logout.

How would I make an update query to change those numbers to the equivalent text? Or is that not possible in the same field because that is 2 different data types?

Queries :: Make Replace Query To Look In Order To Find What To Replace

May 6, 2014

I have this working query:

Code:
INSERT INTO TB_SISTEMAS ( LOGIN, SISTEMA, PERFIL, DATA )
SELECT Left([dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.LOGIN],255) AS LOGIN, dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.SISTEMA, Left([dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.PERFIL],255) AS PERFIL, dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.DATA
FROM dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS
WHERE (((dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.SISTEMA)<>"ACTIVE DIRECTORY") AND ((dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.DATA)="2014-03-23"));

But Iwant to be able to use a set of data to be used in the Replace Statement, so I create a table to add each string I would like to have replaced by "nothing", and trying to make the replace query to look there in order to find what to replace.I also created a table where I will list the systems that I dont want in the select, so I removed the "ACTIVE DIRECTORY" and replaced by the colum that have the list of system I dont want listed.This is the result:

Code:
INSERT INTO TB_SISTEMAS ( LOGIN, SISTEMA, PERFIL, DATA )
SELECT Replace((Left([dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.LOGIN],255)),[PREFIXOS_E_SUFIXOS]![Valor],"") AS LOGIN, dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.SISTEMA, Left([dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.PERFIL],255) AS PERFIL, dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.DATA
FROM dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS
WHERE (((dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.SISTEMA)<>[SISTEMAS_EXCLUIDOS]![Sistema]) AND ((dbo_BACKUP_ACESSOS.DATA)="2014-03-23"));

The thin is that this keeps asking me to enter the parameter value for "PREFIXOS_E_SUFIXOS!Valor" and for "SISTEMAS_EXCLUIDOS!Sistema"

Queries :: Extract And Replace With Additional Data Append Delete Query

Jul 1, 2015

I have a Table1 served by Form1..It is a list of: UnqID, process, quantity, totaltime(in seconds).I want to click on a record to bring up a filtered Form2 with the chosen record on it.What I want to be able to do is to now split the quantity (and the time) and put these new records back into Table1 and delete the original record

EG

ID1,10,write a report,2400

I want to delete this and replace it with two (or three/four etc) replacements, but still adding up to 10 quantity and 2400 seconds so that the new data could be:

ID2,5,write a report,1200
ID3,5,write a report,1200

My initial thoughts are to create a holding table to:Append filtered data on Form2 to a holding Table1hld (i don't know how to do this) delete data in Table1.then enter the new quantities into a holding Table2 (that I will input myself) and then append (through a series of queries back into Table1).The first problem is how to append (and subsequently delete) the filtered record from Form2 to Table1hld.

Queries :: SQL UPDATE That Adds But Doesn't Replace?

Aug 27, 2013

Right now, I'm working with an SQL code of

Code:
"UPDATE Individuals SET [ShareholderOf] = " & Me.CompanyNo & " WHERE [Name] = '" & PerName & "';"

However, doing so will obviously change the "Shareholder of" field into what the user inputs (Me.CompanyNo). What should I use if I want it to ADD the user input rather than REPLACING the old [shareholderof] value?

Possible To Update 180 Queries With Find / Replace Script Or Function?

Apr 2, 2014

The company I work for is consolidating regional server space onto a single server. I have relinked all of my tables, but my ~180 queries are still pointing to the old server.

My question: Is there a script or other process that can be executed that will search through all my queries within the database to find the string "dbo_tbl" and replace with "dbo_vwtbl"? I would very much like to avoid taking each individual query to a notepad...

Update Query - Replace Function Problem

Oct 31, 2004

I'm having problems with an assignment in an online course I am taking.

The assignment is to create one Update Query to find & remove typos in a field. Specifically, the typos are multiple f's & g's embedded in a field.

I created an Update Query that finds the typos & removes just the f's. I'm having trouble with the syntax to also remove the g's.

This is what I have so far that works great.

Update: Replace([Field2],"fff","")
Criteria: Like “*fff*”
or: Like “*ggg*”

The Query finds the records that contain both the "fff" & the "ggg" typos but I'm having trouble with Syntax for removing both.

Does anyone know what I have to change in the "Update:" line to include removing the g's?

I know I could easily create 2 Querys to remove the f's then the g's but the assignment requires only 1 Query to remove both.

Thanks,
Yaani-Mai

General :: Update Query To Replace Letters And Digits

Feb 27, 2015

We have a field of 7m records of varying length, some of which are numbers, some just letters, some alphanumeric, and most which include a dash, space or some sort of punctuation mark.

We need to replace all letters with "L", then replace all digits with "@".

We can replace characters individually using this update query:

Replace([Ref Digit Or Letter],"A","L")

But would like to use wildcard searches to resolve this, something like (these don't work!)...

Replace([Ref Digit Or Letter],"A-Z","L")
Replace([Ref Digit Or Letter],"LIKE [*A-Z*]","L")

Queries :: Update Data In Combobox Using Query

Jul 24, 2014

I have been spending all my today to fill a combobox dynamically, but have not been able yet.

I have a combobox and a pass-through query in access, which is working fine and fill the details into the combobox via data source. Now what I am planning to do is to update the combobox source as soon as value in a text box changes.

Here is the code I am using, but it is not working:

Dim rs As Recordset
Dim qDef As QueryDef
Set qDef = CurrentDb.QueryDefs("get_data")
qDef.SQL = "SELECT Initial + ' (' + Name + ')' uws FROM EM.dbo.UW" _
& " WHERE lob = '" & addSingleQuotation(Me.CMB_LOB.Value) & "'"

Me.cmbUM.RowSource = qDef.SQL
Me.cmbUM.Requery

I also used Recordset, but did not work:

Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("get_data")
Me.cmbUM.RowSource = rs!uws

Query To Update Data To Foreign Key Field?

Jul 1, 2007

I've sent a post about this before and got some of the answer from 'Dennisk'- thanks.

I want to replace composite keys with a primary. I've just made an autonumber field on one table for my new primary key and already populated it. On the foreign table ive made a new field with 'number' datatype; this field is empty at the moment.

I'm not sure how to update the foriegn tables new field with the primary tables data. I've saw it before and remember it being easy, just can't remember how to do it.

I obviously want the numbers in the primary key field to relate to the correct records in the foriegn table.

Anyone know what the query is or if there's another way?

Thanks:confused:

Queries :: Append Multiple Data With Update Query?

Aug 6, 2013

In access Im working with two tables, this is my setup

tableA.documentnr
tableA.revison

tableB.documentnr
tableB.revision

Both tables are filled with data, Table B contains the same kind of data as table A, But tableA has documentnumbers with different revisions (for example revision a,b,c, for each revision a seperate row). Table B might have an identical document, but just one revision (like revision a).

Now I like to append the data of tableA to tableB, except if a revision is similiar to a revision in table A. (There is more metadata involved, but I will do it step by step)

Im not working with primarykey data, becayse in the end result table B will also have multiple (identical)document numbers with different revisions on different rows.

I tried to use the update query but it doenst append the documentnumbers where the revision is not present in table B I attached a image of the tables.

Queries :: Update Query To Add Data To Table NOT Overwrite

Apr 23, 2015

I have a table that is updated from an update query which gets its data from a table, which gets its data from a form. I have set the query to only update the current record, this is done by a macro when the user exits the input box. The problem arises when a user goes to visit past record, I would like it to not overwrite the old data with the new data. If the query was only allowed to ADD data and not overwrite then this would fix the problem!

My SQL code is as follows:

UPDATE [Run Info], [Sieve Weights] SET [Run Info].[315 Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![315 Tare], [Run Info].[250 Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![250 Tare], [Run Info].[200 Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![200 Tare], [Run Info].[160 Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![160 Tare], [Run Info].[100 Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![100 Tare], [Run Info].[75 Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![75 Tare], [Run Info].[50 Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![50 Tare], [Run Info].[BD Tube Tare] = [Sieve Weights]![BD Tube]
WHERE ((([Forms]![1L Input form]![ID No])=[Run Info]![ID No]));

Queries :: Update Query On Multivalue Field

If I was to run:

Code:
UPDATE Table
Set Table.Multivalue.Value = 1
WHERE Field 1 = "True" AND Field 2 = "True";

Then run

Code:
UPDATE Table
Set Table.Multivalue.Value = 2

Will I have a Multivalue field as A,B or just B? I would like it to be A,B but I have my doubts as to whether this would work.

Queries :: Replace Function In Query With Sub Table

Feb 14, 2014

I am running a query for an apparel manufacturing facility. In my query I have a table called 'OrderForm' which is where the orders are put in. There are more than one type of fabric that can be a part of an apparel item, so as a result, there are multiple fields pulling from the 'FabricType' table. In order to get this to work in my query I created 'SubTables' for the different fabric fields. For example, I have tblFrontfab, tblbackfab, tblsleevefab, and tblcollarfab which are just extra copies of the 'FabricType' table. The actual question is that when I want to replace characters like ,./& in the fabric field but I can't use the replace function. It says that it is too complex to calculate.

I used this notation
Frontfab: Replace([tblFrontfab].[fabric],".","")
and the error was that it is to complex to evaluate.

Queries :: Update Query On Multivalued Field Not Working

Jun 27, 2014

Why update query isn't working when trying to update an multivalued field. In this table, there are 647 records and only 9 of which already have a value set in the "AssociatedProject" field. More than one AssociatedProject is associated with a vendor, so this field allows for multiple entries. I've looked at all the information on update queries and updating a multivalued field, but it will only update the existing 9 records. It does not recognize the remaining ones (they have no values yet).

Here's the SQL:

UPDATE Tbl_Vendor SET Tbl_Vendor.AssociatedProject.[Value] = 3
WHERE (((Tbl_Vendor.AssociatedProject.Value) Is Null));

Queries :: Update Query To Remove Values In Field

Jul 2, 2015

What I have a a form that my lab supervisor would use. That person selects the records that are to be modified and assigns work, completes work or otherwise updates the status of the records. One of the options is to mark a record as not having a sample here if it has already been marked as having been here. So essentially, I want to modify the record to change the sample arrival date and sample number field (which is a foreign key field) to null or empty. I have created a delete query that deletes the corresponding record just fine.I just am having difficulty updating the two fields mentioned above. When the supervisor selects the record the primary key for that record is also picked up so it is easy to know exactly what record to adjust. The query returns the information to be updated just fine, it just doesn't do that. Here is the sql of the query. As I said, I don't care if the fields are empty or null. Also the fields aren't required.

Code:
UPDATE TestRequestTable SET TestRequestTable.SampleLocation = "", TestRequestTable.SampleArrivalDate = ""
WHERE (((TestRequestTable.TestRequestNumber)=[Forms]![LabScheduleForm]![TRNumberCombo]));
