First I will give background on the table and fields. Then I will explain the overall goal for creating of the TEST and KEYWORD 2 fields.
BACKGROUND
PROPNUM: UNIQUE ID
SECTION: Set of data responsible for a certain function EX: section 4 - expenses, section 5 - interest, etc.
SEQUENCE: The order of the sytanx in that propnum's section
QUALIFIER: Qualifies multiples set of syntax per section to differentiate other work (NOT REALLY IMPORTANT for the query)
KEYWORD: A specific word that the program recognizes and treates the expression according to the key word * the quotes keyword is a continuation line and represent the keyword above it*
EXPRESSION: are the variables that are treated by program according to the keyword
OVERALL GOAL: The main goal is to have a spreadsheet of variables used by the program to calculate it's end result. Which means KEYWORD & EXPRESSION by PROPNUM. THE PROBLEM is that the only way to tell that a quote keyword belongs is by having the sequence and section lined up. So my solution is to rename the quote keyword with the primary keyword and a number.
I have a union query with 2 fields: Order and Row_Heading_Full.

The purpose is to pull the Order and Row_Heading_Full fields from a table and add another entry that with "25" as the Order and "Totals" as the Row_Heading_Full at the end of the list.
I want it to be ordered sequentially based on the Order field. But instead it is ordered like this: 1, 10, 11, 12... 20, 21, 22... 3, 4, 5... In other words it is ordering only by the first digit and not by the number as a whole.
When I remove the union aspect it is ordered properly:

But that defeats the purpose because I am not adding a final entry of "25" and "Totals".
I have a report listing all individuals within my database by their score. I need to select the top say 40 people from the list, instead of counting down 40 from the top how could I put a number beside each name? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
trying to create an update query to Budget table using the Access Design View:
Field: PctSls (in tblBudget) Update to: [Expense] / [Sales]. The update query always returns 0. However, if I create a Select query using the same calculation, the correct results is displayed. PctSls is defined in the Budget table.
I haven't worked with Access (2003) for several years but this seems too simple to be causing me such frustration. (Was only a casual user even then).
I have a table (tblContact) with an auto number key field that is numbered sequentially (1-8) there are no deletions, each new record is appended.I wrote a simple FindFirst line to locate a record that is the first record in the table. The FindFirst failed to find the record.So, I wrote a Do Until Loop that cycles through each record looking for the record that I want to find (the first record with key field 1).

This works to find the first record... eventually, because it does not begin its search at the first record. The results in the immediate window are below.
I believe the field CEmployerID is unrelated to the issue. I am also attaching screen shots of the table "tblContact" and code with immediate window. I have tried indexing and not indexing the CEmployerID field in the Contact table to no avail. Even though the Do Until Loop eventually finds my record,
I have a dilemma. I need my app to print out legally binding property schedules for insurance purposes. A property can have any number of schedules created during a year according to how many changes are made. My instinct is to use a set of nested queries to generate the reports and then save them as snapshots should they need to be referred to later (they will!!). However I have just been wondering if I should create a new table that gets populated with the full data for each property schedule when one is printed so that there is a definitive and tangible record for each schedule. The latter seems like not good practice within Access as I know it but I have this niggling hunch that it might be the right approach for this app. On the lazier note it would also make re-creation or subsequent investigation very much easier than having a whole sequence of horribly dynamic queries! Does anyone have anything similar (sure someone does) and what did they do? Thanks for any input
I dont know if this is possible in MS Access (2003) but this is what I want to do...
I want to create a database, each record has about 8 fields. Usual basic stuff for a typical DB so far... BUT! One of the fields is the category info, say "Item 1" Usage: Now another 5 records are made and are childen of "Item 1" and called..say "1a" (..b,c,d,e) Item 1d record has 300 sub nodes to it.. say "Item 1d1" (2 to 300). And so on to eventualy make many records but linked by a huge tree like structure (like Treepad DB). Finding Records. Now, to find say "Item 5c22f5" I just want to see 1 drop down list, I then choose "Item 5" from it. Then a second drop down list appears with..say 8 child nodes of Item 5, I choose "Item 5c", 3rd drop down appears, I choose "Item...22" etc, etc. till I get to my "Item 5c22f5" Now, while sellecting each node, some nodes in other brances contained hundreds of items but I never want to see them unless I go through their brances. Adding new records: eg: While working on "Item 5c22f5" I decide to add a record which will be "Item 5c22f6", I want to simply add it within the same branch but not be expose to the hundreds of other nodes/records. Then I also would like to now add a sub of the current and call it "Item 5c22f6a". and also be be confided to the current branch. Or if I just go in 3 brances deep & see 5 levels each etc. Finally, each record will have a field called "Notes" but I want rich text formating (like in word pad would be fine).
Maybe the ID tagging fields could be 3x on each record to show forward, current & back nodes??? What ever it takes.
I hope I've explain this OK. I am new to MS Access so if it cant do it, I dont want to spend time learning it for nothing (at least not now).
This (if sugcessful) will be my universal, mind mapping info base. A baby I've been dreaming of for years now. Like Infohander meets TreePad meets Advance Data Managment (ADM) meets FileMaker.

I have some requirements whereby there are many reports that are needed to be given to the employer. I had an idea the other day and I wanted to run it by you guys. The reports can be categorized in a hierarchy (like everything else in this world of course):
=> Type => SubType => Name
Here are some examples of what I have currently:
Types => Finance, Customer, Services SubTypes => Invoicing (Finance), Proposals (Finance), Customer List (Customer), Recent Customers (Customer), Service Types (Services) Name => Print Invoice (Invoicing), Print Proposal (Proposals), etc, etc...
What I was thinking of doing is creating a few tables with relationships based on this, then one form from a query (that joins all the tables together) that serves as the report generating form. I would drive the cascading combo boxes by a bunch of hidden fields on the form itself.I think this would be much better than just writing a bunch of SQL statements behind combos on an unbound form. Wouldn't it?
I have a Date field in the format X/XX/2012 for all my records.
I want to create a field that labels each record according to its quarter. So if a date is 3/29/2012, I'd want the corresponding field entry to be: Q1 2012. If it's 3/29/2013, I'd want it to be: Q1 2013, etc.
I guess I would run an update query, but I don't know how to build the proper expression in order to update my table with a new field.

I am using a query as part of a mail merge, there are two forms that use the query, create and view, both forms use the same table. When I click the print button the query runs, and mail merges in a word document.
What I need is a filter on the query which only shows the record currently open on which ever of the forms is open, so the mail merge only happens for the 1 record you want.

I am tasked with creating a scientific database of fish catches at various different sampling stations. I envisage the entry form having a hierarchy, ie year, season, date, sample station, species caught, and then the specific associated data with each species (weight, abundance, length etc) will be a distinct record.
As fas as data entry is concerned, I would like the user to not have to re-enter the same information over and over when entering multiple species entries at the same sampling station, on the same date and so on up the hierarchy.
I am trying to create a form to enter data into a table that I ultimately will create a report from. I have created a blank table with the columns I need. I created an append query to add the new records and an update query and a macro to run them on click of a button. It all runs but it doesn't append anything to the table. What am I doing wrong?
I have 1 table that I duplicated to make 3 tables total. I did this b/c I am trying to create separate columns from the same field and table. The field is Workorder. Each workorder list the workorder number followed by a dash and then code. I am wanting to put all of the workorders with the same code in it's own column.
I have 5 codes that i am searching for. The first column list the workorder and a code (123456789-AD). The second column (123456789-BC). I'm good to this point but my problem occurs next.
The third column i am trying to put 3 types of workorder and it's code in the same column. As follows, (123456789-CD, 123456789-TC, and 123456789-PTC. However, when I do this it takes the results from the 3rd column and applies it to the 3rd column but also the 1st and 2nd column. I tried a UNION query and unless I am doing it incorrectly it does not work.
A list of codes that will be updated monthly, which will be the basis for querying the second table. Approx 100 rows of data.
2. Table Original
A data file obtained from IT where i'll need to sort it to find any codes that are including in Table1. This includes approx ~ 10,000 row of data.
** note, the "BIC" from "Table BIC" can appear in any of the 5 BIC columns in Table Original.
What i need to do is create a query that will:
1. Search the "BIC" from "Table BIC" in all 5 columns of "Table Original".
2. Where it has a hit, it will create new table - for example, the first row of table Original includes the BIC "ABC" in the "BIC 1" column. A query would create table "ABC" and place this whole record (all 8 fields) in new table "ABC". No modification needed.
3. Where two (or more) BIC's from "Table BIC" appear in one record in "Table Original" - the result will only need to be placed in one of the new tables (really doesn't matter which one). For example, Record #4 includes the BIC "ABC" in field "BIC1" and the BIC "DEF" in the field "BIC4". Therefore, a new table would be created (either ABC or DEF) to capture this information.
I am having trouble creating a query where I am trying to count number of records for different fields for a particular criteria, and combine the results into a single table.
My table is in the form, TimeandDate,WS127m_Avg,WS82m_Avg....
I want to count those records where a 9999 is reported, and report by month. For a single field I can do this OK using,

I can't figure out how to report an additional field (WS82m_Avg) at the same time, checking for the same criteria in that field (i.e. WS82m_Avg = 9999).
does access have the ability to create a query where all records are present, all fields are present, yet some data within some fields aren't displayed?
Have a Make table query that needs to create (add) several new fields where each field must be numeric design.
Have tried:
Score1: Not Null - does not seem to work (results in a Binary field) Score1: 0 - which does give me the numeric field designation but every field in table contains a 0.
Would like to show Blank field (makes data input easier at a later time) but still have the Numeric designation.
I worked yesterday to create a database consisting of a table, multiple querries and a form. Today I went to open it and I got a different database I worked on months ago. The properties say it was created yesterday, but it is not the same database and I can not find the database I created yesterday.
